Okay then, time for a new update. I have the Battle system almost done, but I can't finish it until I have the bag system completed.(take a wild geuss as to why that is) So here's a mock-up of one of my ideas for the bag system, tell me what you like and don't like about it so I can fix it ok?

Double posting. Badd baddd DeMOn.

The bag menu looks great! Just a few things.

-It should show the picture of the item somewhere next to the bag. For example, each item you highlight, could zoom out of the bag, while when you highlight a different item, it zooms back into the bag while another item comes out.

-It looks kinda plain. For the item select menu, you should have a transparent background, to make the text more clear, and less pixely. Also, the background overall shouldn't be white. If you take a look at the bag menu on the GBA games, you would know that there is barely, if any, white showing.

-Under the bag, it should have the description of the item highlighted.

That's all I see that it should have.
Good luck.

mmhmm, good suggestions. I'll take those into account. (oh and it's not double posting because the second post was a major update)

It looks too non-Pokémon to me, with the scroll bar and the tabs... Looks some kind of Windows application tho lol

The Dash April 30th, 2007 12:01 AM

Yeah it really doesn't look like it's meant for a Pokémon game.

Mooshykris April 30th, 2007 11:37 AM

Seriously -_-

Does everything HAVE to "look like a Pokemon game"?!

DeM0nFiRe April 30th, 2007 3:03 PM

Mm, no, I actually think you guys are right. I couldn't quite put my finger on what was wrong with it, but you guys are right. It doesn't really feel like pokemon huh? I geuss I'll just have to redesign, no biggy. I'll post the new Mock-up when I have it.

If you are doing a Pokémon starterkit, then yes.

Mooshykris May 1st, 2007 8:39 AM

I just see, it doesn't have to be a clone of a 3rd gen game to be a Pokemon game, it can have new systems.

What are you talking about? I never said anything about 'new systems' (and he showed an Items screen). I was talking about the look of it, nothing more.

I definitely agree with ~Azura on this one. It has to look like it's pokemon. I'm not going to just copy one of the bags from another game, but it really has to follow the same general theme.
So tell me how you guys like this one:

Ooo, looks good. I have a question though. I'm gonna start a fangame, and do you think I should use blizzy's kit for now and move it my game over onto this once its released? Will it be hard to transfer over?

Krobelus May 3rd, 2007 4:21 PM

I think it would be pretty hard. You should just wait.

DeMOn you already know what my thoughts are, it's posted on our Blue Knights forum.

Anyways good luck.

It would take a really long time if I just waited, since he's not gonna release it for a while..

Krobelus May 5th, 2007 3:41 PM

Meh, that's what you think. Why don't you go on our forum, and check updates?

Waaay ahead of you ;)

I'm just gonna use Blizzy's as a blueprint, so I have all the scripts and maps n stuff.

~Azura May 5th, 2007 7:14 PM

You can always just do the mapping for now, and some basic eventing and wait for the release...

~Azura is right, work on mapping for now. You can also sprite any custom pokemon too if you'd like. However, I wouldn't recommend starting on Blizzy's kit. My scripting methods for this project are very differnt than blizzy's.

Ryuji May 7th, 2007 3:35 PM

Awesome, man. I an't wait for it to be released. =)

DeM0nFiRe May 24th, 2007 2:57 PM

UPDATE: Ok, I've decided to outsource the designing of the bag system (I'm still going to be scripting it, someone else is doing the art for it.) Once he gets it to me, I'll be able to finish that darned battle system.

New2Ya June 12th, 2007 11:52 AM

If you need help with sprites and such, I can always help. I like to do spriting.

Anyways, I like the way this is progressing. But I'd like to suggest something. (just a suggestion, thats all)

Why not do something different with the battle system. Look, I know how people like the original Poké battle system, but I also remember that most people I know complained about the constant repeating Poké battle layout.

So why not go sideview?

I asked someone to script a battle system for me not so long ago, got no reply though so forget that part. But I wanna show you what I had in mind:

http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/2428/pbstj0.png
(think that face scroll on the left out of the picture)

As you see, it uses the same system as Pokémon, except that its sideview. It opens a lot of new possibilities. Moving panorama's for one. In this system, there are only 2 animation poses though. 1 is just the standing one, where the Pokémon breathes (duh) and one is where the Pokémon faints, and is called back (Pokémon turns red, pokéball animation, Pokémon disappears. Attacking is all magic animations we know from the original Pokémon games.

Anyways, keep it up like this!!

DeM0nFiRe June 12th, 2007 12:55 PM

I think I'll just stick with th regular battle system, thanks though.
If you wanna help, I need attack animations. I'm looking for anyone to find/ rip them for me.

Mechanic June 12th, 2007 12:58 PM

Hey New2Ya, that sidewiew system wount be a bad idea but the turn system can stays there it would make it kinda better and also using different sprites (i belive those are pokemon dungeon or something like that sprites) or make your own ones because they are all just looking down and makes it look like "ugh".

Other than that, DeM0nFiRe, your bag system shure would need a better skin lol, and i hope you get it finished with the battle system and WtH you could also implement new stuff rather than just sticking to how the game is :P
