what? April 1st, 2007 8:14 PM

but I don't want to trade with some random person, i want to aim for a specific person. How do I do that?
I've made some pre-trades, and since you can't specify shiny or not shiny, i want to trade manually

Ichida April 1st, 2007 8:21 PM

Why does it matter, as long as you get what you want?

If you're that strict about it, use friend codes or trade using local wireless with someone you know.

Here's something else I was wondering about the GTS; Can you trade for a pokemon that's not in the sinnoh pokedex before getting the nationaldex? For example, would I be able to trade my lvl.15 shinx for a lvl.15 magnemite at the beginning of the game?

wakachamo April 3rd, 2007 12:24 PM

^I don't think so. You'd need to get a National Pokédex for that to actually happen. I'm not sure though, but it's highly unlikely you'll be able to get a certain creature before getting the appropriate dex.

You can only request Pokémon on the GTS that you have seen. So, if you haven't seen a Magnemite, you can not request it.

Ichida April 3rd, 2007 12:28 PM

Well, that's incredibly stupid, and defeats the entire point of trading. <.<;;

Lt. Surge's Raichu April 3rd, 2007 1:07 PM

Well, i don't see how that will work, i just can't :/

Yeah!, that's what I thought, but I think they made it that way so you cannot trade a level 100 to your game and own the whole game by mindlessly pressing attack until it actually obeys (Lol at RBY, Good old days)

But It's also helpful, as the requirement in D/P is to have seen the poke not caught, So if you cannot trade with someone who has your opposite version, Just go on to Wi-Fi.

You can still trade Pokémon the usual way, the GTS isn't the only way to trade.
You don't have to have seen a certain Pokémon for receiving it in a normal trade.

Ichida April 4th, 2007 9:34 AM

I was hoping to do that with my lv100 Emerald team. :P But apparently you can't do anything relating to any other games until you get the National Pokedex. When the hell do you get it, anyways?! <.<;;

You get it when you've seen (not caught) all Pokémon form the Shinou dex.
You can see them all if you battle every trainer and if you talk to an old lady you'lll see the version exclusive legendary, so you don't even need to trade to get it.

Dsaerno April 4th, 2007 12:52 PM

So, if we can't ask for any Pokemon that we haven't seen, then how will the trading of the super-legendaries (Lugia, Ho-Oh, Manaphy, Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Deoxys, Darkrai (sp?), Shaymin, Arceus) work? Won't we have to ask for this Pokemon to get it in a WiFi GTS trade?

If so, then that sucks.

(PS- I got a Manaphy/Phione in my Ranger game. If anybody wants one when the American D/P GTS goes up, PM me. I'm not a mean guy, I'll trade you reasonably.)

You won't get them on the GTS, you are right with that.
But you can still trade Pokémon the traditional way, which doesn't require you to have seen the Pokémon before.

And some of the Pokémon you mentioned are only availible if you are using a cheating device.

Midnight Beat April 4th, 2007 1:12 PM

Do you have to see the pokemon to trade for it if you use a friend code?

If you trade with someone directly, no, you don't need to see them.
If you use the GTS, yes, you do.

ss5vegeta April 4th, 2007 1:26 PM

We wont be able to trade around the world because D/P are region locked.

wakachamo April 4th, 2007 1:30 PM

^Yes you will. It's called the frikkin' Wi-Fi connection. And for the last time, D/P is not region-locked.

If D/P are region locked then how come i can play my japanese pearl in my english DS?

Myzou April 5th, 2007 4:34 AM

From what I saw on official WiFi Site, if you ever change the DS your D/P game is inserted in, you get reassigned a new friend code, and you lose all your friends on the old one... :/

Good, because I'm sure when the games come out that they will have some sort of thread on here to request trades.

I think it's awesome! But it's not exactly like everyone says. The friends code comes with the game, it is made when they make it. No 2 friends codes are the same because they always check it in factory, and you can't change it. Otherwise it would be messed up in so many ways.
i dont think thats true...
if it was the case i wouldnt be able to wifi race on mario cart with my r4 and m3. the wifi chip is inside your ds, once you go and start the wifi on your game for the first time it makes you a friend code that saves into the save files.

This is true. Whenever I switch to my sister's DS when mine dies, my Wi-Fi says asks if I'm willing to delete all past information and get a new FC.

Ninja Monkey April 5th, 2007 6:22 PM

I think it's great, I never have anybody to trade with so it will be useful to get pokes that only evolve through trading.
