Wow, lex this map is great! I love how you placed the lasers, and also the lava, but you should change the palettes, of the floor, put it like green or something or gray.

Cool! Map I love the mazes in it also the placement fo the rocks.
Awesome palettes too, though they look like if it was already filled with water:P

Also, the PokéCenter and PokéMart are there just for visual purposes. I've realized that you can't enter them. AND the end of the route leads somewhere...just sayin' ;)

the route itself is good but i don't really like the color of the tiles, with that said...
9/10 just the route
6/10 the tiles.

Add a darker outline to the smaller trees and shrubs to make them stand out more, like the DP style trees.

Well this map is too square, the placement of the buildings is kinda like parallel, the lake is too big but it is good, no tile errors, well, the only bad thing is that is too square, I rate it with 6/10

this is your first map? wow^^
its better than some peoples 10th map xD
there might be problems with the elevations where the mountains hover each other, i think at the bottom theres a mistake
but you have a lot of details on the map and its not squarish
also youve added an additonal path which you can only go with a hm, most ppl forget about that possibility
you could add more rocks (even big ones that consist of 4 or more mountain tiles) onto the path, to make it a bit more winded
but for a first map its really damn good!

Reason: It looks like a pretty nice map. The placement of the trees is great. There are some empty spaces. The house without the door looks wierd in come way XD And I don't like the boulders. The map looks pretty good though.
Suggestions: Don't leave too many spaces empty and don't use too many boulders. It ruins the map. Try to add some more creativity to the map.

Everything is nicely done, i dont see any tile errors and it just looks great.
But i really dont like the rocks, i dont know why, it just doesnt seem to fit in.
And btw I checked out that map tutorial you sent me, it helped my maps greatly.

wow, this map is really good for the first try.
Before i rate it, i am wondering if you have read any tutorials before you made this.
well, the map looks really nice but straightforward.
It'd be better if you made it at least a bit more complex because the exit is only 10 steps away, and i just hate plain maps.
the mountain tiles were placed really good and professionally, it looks great because of that.
However, it doesn't make sense why its like that unless you plan to make it like mt. coronet.

Eh... i don't like it that much.
There are too much flowers on the right side, not enough on the left side.
there are too much rocks and the rocks seem really crowded.
The house has no purpose, but the vegetation(trees only) is placed good.
however, there could be more small trees on the left side.
The path seems nice, and its really peaceful.

Suggestions: More flowers, spread them apart, and less rocks.
also, remove the windowless, doorless house.
it looks creepy.

Its just me, but it would look better with the original tileset.
The path looks bad, there's only 3 flowers, and the skinny tree border seems...bad.
however, the other vegetation is good,and so is the placement of the ladge.

Suggestions: It would be better with the original tileset, add more flowers, don't make the path so fat, and fix the house placement.

I'll probably rate the other maps later, so don't worry.

Not very good graphics but....
WAY TOO MUCH GRASS!! It's boring, there are tile errors on the bottom of the pond and there are no consistent border blocks.

Rating, 5/10
Reason: WAY too much grass once again. Some of the trees have tile errors, and most of the ledges are completly unnecessary. Also, grass in unreachable places is not good and not original. Sorry to say that again, you don't have the shadows on the left side of the stairs. Fix all that up and it'll be a 9/10. Sorry if I sounded harsh.

Reason: The map does not even need to be half that size. Too many empty areas throughout the whole map, and there are tile errors by the bottom. Also, the grass as a filler is horrible. It just needs to be fixed all over the place.

@Osher99: You seem to have gotten a little better at mapping. :)
There are no tile errors, but, the only problem you are having with your maps are, that they are too square, and WAY too much unused space.

I like this map, its simple yet perfect. The marts color is fine, I mean, it doesn't have to be blue! There are some tile errors near the waterfall, the cave should just extend into it, not curve up. All in all, great map, 9/10
Another suggestion is that I would make the rocks a little zigzag at the bottom, not just in a straight line, cause that's boring ;)

Pretty cool Eevee. Don't like the use of the one particular house the whole way and one house has no windows. Unless it's meant to have a lot of rocks or something, I'd say there are too uch. | I'll give it a 8/10.

I love snow towns, and this one is beautiful. My only complaint would be that the path seems to dominate the map, but in such a small town I understand that.

No cave is that square. While it may be quicker just to make squares, try to take the extra time and make it more convoluted, like a natural-made cave.
The second map, since it's tiny, is acceptable. I would fix the second set of stairs in the middle, I think it's going the wrong way.

The path and pond are nice, the building placement is descent.
But, two pokemon centers? :\
Also, your gonna have border errors and an empty spot below the PC at the left.

Reason: I think it's a great map. I like everything about it. The tiles are great and the palletes really match. Everything looks really neat and tidy and I love your way of mapping. It looks really good. Superb job.

Rating: 9.5/10
Reason: OMG where did you get that idea? *steals idea* XD. That's like the most imaginative map I've ever seen. It seems to be like somewhere in space. Really super job. The tiles look really awesome and I like the complete Idea of the map. Well done.

if you enlarge the picture you can see that there is a huge cave dividing the area, its a cave that is early on so you have to go through it. and you should be pretty beat up by the time you get out.

@ Seraron your maps are great.

9 for the first one because i dunno. XD
its to good to give it anything less but not good enough to give a 10.
if that clears things up.

Comments: This a route I have been working on for quite some time now. I thought I'd put it up here for some suggestions. This is my first time posting here so let me know of anything I need to change so I can break any bad habits now.
EDIT: Oh and there's a trainer blocking the exit in the southwest corner between the two smaller trees.

Except, your missing 2 tiles in the little crater on the left mountain near the bottom. :\

this is such a wonderful map!
i really dont see anything you could have done better, the shape of the river is awesome, the mountains looks natural, the grass and trees are placed brilliant!
that you even placed a shadow under the bridge is really nice, i would have forgotten to do that
it looks a bit like a route of ruby, but your version is way better^^

im sure when applying with this map every hacking team will accept you if theyre in need of a mapper

Colcostyles, everything about that map is absolutely wonderful.
The shape of the trees, the shape of the mountain, everything. It's so big, but so good, that the minuscule tile errors don't change anything.
I don't normally give something like this but...

Well... That's kinda the thing, xD.

You're supposed to be able to get to
the 2nd town without a Pokemon,
since you will get your starter
in the 2nd town...
(I'm going to add scripts that keep
you away from the grass)

Reason: This is pretty good. I really like the shape of the entire route. The tree placement is good, it's not square, it's a pretty good route. I also really like how you used the space (the player has to travel through the entire map to reach the other side.

Suggestions:
Maybe I'm missing something but ... is it possible to go through the entire route without surf? If you moved one tree on the it would work (maybe that was intentional, I don't know). Anyways, the grass placement is pretty good but sometimes you put too much and there are areas with too little. There are a few empty spots you could fill with trees or grass. The non-grass mountain tiles are kinda weird amongst all of the grass but the contrast does make it look less empty. The river gets a little square at the bottom. The only problems with this map are little ones. If you fix them all, you've got yourself one hell of a map. :)

First Map: 7/10
Reason: The ledges at the top don't work, and the small trees in the middle have tile errors. I like the shape though.

Second Map: 6/10
Reason: Is kinda square to me, and I don't like the placement of trees, also, the random pathways kinda ruin it.

Reason: This map is not very good at all there are tile errors ALL over the place, the cliffs are way too square.. the placement of the trees is utterly horrible, along with the pathways. Another thing that bad is the placement of flowers. The waterfall does not look good there, and the borders will not work at all, and there is no way to get to the pokecenter. Sorry if I sounded harsh, but this map just needs to be fixed a little too badly.



EDIT: I didn't see your post before Colcolstyles... I guess I forgot to add that you will need surf to complete this map.. (Yes, you definetely get and need to use surf before here...)


Now onto 2 of my newest maps... (Yes, I finally attempted a city, my first attempt at an actually city ^_^)

Here's yet another route map:

There are connections from the bottom and from the right side... Also, I realize there is no grass on this map. There is a MAJOR reason for that, which I will not give away, as you will have to find that out in a future hack of mine.



And now for my first CITY, not town, CITY. I think it came out pretty well. There are connections on the northern, eastern, and southern sides of this city.

First Map: 7/10
Reason: I kinda like this map, but there is a tile error in the top left. The pathways are excellent, but I think you should reshape the water a little better.
Second Map: 5.5/10
Reason: I dont see any tile errors so thats good :), also, the grass and flower placement could use some help, along with the shapes of the cliffs.

After looking at your maps, I think you should try reshaping them, using a method that works wonders for me. ^_^

For water, jus scribble water around the general area you want the water to be. Tidy it up a little bit so it looks less square, like this: http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg19/Mecharatchet/Before.png, then add the finishing touches and you have a pretty good looking sea/river http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg19/Mecharatchet/After.png.


For cliffs, just scatter around the 4 sides of the cliffs all around where you want the cliffs to be, like this: http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg19/Mecharatchet/Before1.png, then just add the finishing touches, like before, and pretty cool and better looking cliffs. http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg19/Mecharatchet/After1.jpg...

Doing that, you could really help your maps out. If you do that, I will really rate your maps alot higher than before.

At the end of the little cliff that enters the map you can surf there and get passed the blocking stones.

Another map that I find quite impressive. Although I don't like the arrangement of houses and trees, and the fact that somehow you made the map look circular towards the bottom, and square on the top, I'm gonna give you a solid 9/10

another gorgeous map(sorry, but i can't rate your other one yet).
The mountain placement, trail, and tree placement is very good.
however, i don't like the small mountain in the top left, it just seems uneedded and like it only put there to make exiting a few steps longer.
i also think you have over vegetated it and put too little flowers in it.
the blue roofed house just seems strange, and the house with the brown door seems strange also.
Lastly, the mansion seems more like a lake resort considering what is behind it.
I'll give it an 8/10.
suggestions: I've posted what was wrong, so i think you can figure it out. But just remove about 3-4 big trees and 2-4 small trees.
now, i was wondering if you have read neti's mapping tutorial or if you made it all by yourself. and now, seeing this map, i think you are near neti's level of mapping.
i hope to see more maps from you colco_styles, because they just look so simplistically complex.

I love the map in itself, just there are small parts that irk me.
There are too many trees... So much tree colour and so much rock colour don't really mix.
Some of the small rocky parts kinda irk me... Other than that, it's awesome!

Yeah now that I think about it, it does look kind of odd. But if I didn't have it there, I would probably have ended up putting in (even) more trees

Well I did read his Mapping Tutorial and it definitely helped but I think I have developed a style different from what he teaches in the tutorial.

Wow, that really means a lot, thanks. But it's hard to call someone better than the other because different mappers have different styles (mine consists of heavy vegetation, as you have noted, while Neti's could be completely different).

I appreciate the compliment but, as I said above, you can't really call a mapper better than another due to differing styles. Mapping is a form of art and is therefore open for interpretation; there is no perfect map (or mapper).

The first one is really good. Nothing wrong with it as far as i can see.
The second one is pretty good, it seems a bit cramped but i think its fine.
The thrid one is really good, its just i dont like the random grass tiles. Even tho you cant get to them, they just seem out of place.

Anyways I re-did the starting area, and I believe its rather tile free. But the corners of the water are messed up. I couldnt find the correct tiles so i had to wing it and try to make some.

The house at the top right has a tile error, and the trees at the bottom need the two other tree tiles that connect to it, so it looks like they go on and on. ;)

Yeah I realized the house was wrong when i looked at the picture and when i tried to open the map to fix it. My old crappy map opened and evidently saying yes to saving means saying no. :/

Reason: The blue pallete doesn't look at all good. The mountain tiles are not well placed (I mean in the proper manner). The path doesn't look good. There is a dark pallete under the small trees. And the map is too empty.
Suggestions: Change the pallete. Try not to keep the places empty. Try to add more greenery and try to make it better ;)
