Map Name: Windchime Village

Map Game: Pokémon Fire Red

Comments: This is the first map I have tried to do for my first hack called "Pokémon Duality", this is the starter town, and took quite some time. I have had only a small amount of experience in mapping like this.

Master Terrador May 4th, 2009 7:06 AM

@Ray~About time I see some of your maps...

First One~Urm...How do you get in and out...I can't see a clear way...
Rating~7/10
Suggestions~Make a clear Entrance...

Second~Hm...Too straight forward...I see nothing in your way that makes you wind off the Dirt road...
Rating~5/10
Suggestions~Its too straight forward...Try putting in obstacles...Its also a little plain...

Third...~Too Straight forward...And not too many Relics...Although I like the Dead trees...
Rating~7/10
Suggestions~Put more relics in...Its suppose to be in a Relic clearing...Yet all I see is one...

Finally Fourth~...This one is real good...And It does look like you put alot of time into it...(2 hours)...
Rating~9.5/10
Suggestions~None...:)

@Paul~

Map Name: Windchime Village~Okay...I have some Issues...Like the house behind the Pokemon Center has half a window...I also find It Strange that The Pokecenter and Mart Have House doors...And the fenced in house...If your look at the grass near the House below it...There are two tile errors...
Rating~7/10
Suggestions~Fix the errors I pointed out...If you want to leave the Center and Mart with those doors...Thats fine...:)

Comments: This is the shrine of a deceased Golem which was Marty's, the Gym Leader of Boldur City. The evil team, Team Chaos kidnapped it as a Graveler and made it evolve.
Marty got it back fortunatly, however in a battle when team Chaos tried to kidnap it again, it accidently called a Rock slide and neatly killed Marty. It sacrificed itself to save his trainer and the Chaos grunts were arrested. Marty never forgot this act or his faitful Pokemon so he made a shrine for it.

I hate to be a nag but this is the second time I got skipped for this map:\. I really want it rated as it's for my hack. Please rate.

Your map is 640x640 in size, so wrap a SPOILER tag around it next time...
COMMENT: It's a very wonderful map, no doubt.
RATING: 9/10
SUGGESTION: Nothing, I guess...

That fourth map (the one with the coastline in the southwestern corner) looks remarkably similar to a map in the Legend of Fenju :\

Route 1 and 3 and Vermillion are all good. The rest need work. (Although, even on route 3, the left end is pretty open and boring, maybe a little more grass here and there would make things nicer.)

A few problems that I saw consistantly through the maps. Large square areas a grass. Mix things up a bit. Look at some of the other maps here, and you'll see that they have open areas in the grass, among other things to make it all feel nicer. In the towns, the old buildings look weird with the new palette... The way they are placed feels awkward. Especially in map one, the path above the buildings (there are too many in that one area btw) doesn't seem right does it? I also noticed that the paths are too straight forward. This is a problem that is exceptionally difficult for me to fix in my maps for some reason... but I agree with everyone else, it does make things look better.
So, rethink your paths and house positions, and lighten up on the grass a little.
Some of your maps would be getting 9s but overall I'd say you're around 6-7ish level.

I can't believe I didn't notice it right away, but there are some major tile errors (actually more like tiles left out) in the edges of the water. The tips are missing... in fact I'm seeing errors in a lot of places.
(Are these all made by you? It really seems like more than one person of different skill levels doing these.)

Ninja Caterpie May 4th, 2009 11:52 PM

Lol, he didn't make Vermillion.

That's just a Fenju map in a new tileset.

Think we wouldn't notice? Think again. =P

colcolstyles May 5th, 2009 12:04 AM

Maybe I'm just paranoid but that third town looks a hell of a lot like Scarlet Town in Never Black & White.

I really like this one, simple with a touch of complexity. I like how you added more "filling" tiles in the core of the map (especially the various placement of trees), really makes it look nice! Great job~

Score: 10 out of 10

PLEASE DO NOT STEAL OTHER PEOPLES MAPS!

You Map is an exact copy of my Map "Dahai" from my Hack Legend of Fenju
you just used another tileset
dunno where you got it from since i didnt release mapshots of it i think, maybe you got the old bugged alpha, it might be in there

but, pls, dont say it is not copied cause it 100% is
just look at my map and compare it to yours:
my original one (outdated already, i changed some things, it looks better now):

and here is your copy:

notice any similarities?
You even copied the building and tree placement!!!
its as if you just changed the tileset! there are a lot of tile errors btw...
youre like one of 4 persons who got me mad in pc... two were extremely getting on my nerves and the last one stole a background-image from my thread
i hope you feel guilty

oh and your new version ahs even more tile errors since now you mapped yourself and you cant map

I don't think you're so good at towns comparing to your road maps.
rating: 6,7/10
comments: the tiles are not my taste, ask around if you cant decide what tiles to use.
This is a small town. Cool though.

Well i don't really rate maps often, but i simply had to rate this one cause it's a nice little neat town.
The tree placement is wonderful, the block edits are good too, but the two last reasons why i rated this map is cause of the mountain, it's just got an awesome shape to it, and so the other reason is the palettes there just so beautiful, but you might want to darken the tree palettes just abit.;)

Ok i give this map a 8/10.:)

MASTEROFPUPPETS93 May 5th, 2009 9:21 AM

I've edit a lil bit the palettes of the trees maybe you'll recognize the difference ;)
I hope you like it^^

It's definitely a very nice map... I really don't like the path tho. It's like the grass is taller where people walk more often. That's not very realistic now is it?

3/10

Towns look better if you use similar looking buildings, you have a very wide variety from different tilesets.

Your town has no border. Look at all the other maps in this thread that got high ratings, all of them have either mountain or tree borders, whilst yours is just walk wherever you want.

The path that goes about the gym goes nowhere?

The trees in the middle are annoyingly regular, space them out a bit and make it look natural.

I know you were going for some kind of canyon effect, but the town is living in almost a perfect rectangle! Have a look at some of the mapping tutorials to see how to make mountains look more natural.
