Im such a newb to the games...

I recently aquired Diamond. Can I connect to and battle people who have Pearl? Sorry if this is the dumbest question ever:)

jigglyppuff8 April 21st, 2009 7:11 PM

The answer is yes. Same goes for Platinum.

Nah, sorry, it won't. The poke with Magma Armor / Flame Body has to be in the first slot of your party for the ability to take effect.

I'm SR for a shiny rotom. whenever i load the game the journal keeps coming. i want to disable it. can I?

Nest Ball only Works well on Rotom if ur Pokemon is like Lv.50 ~ Lv.60. U might rather use a Status Affecting Pokemon like Budew to Affect rotom with Status Problem and catching Rotom using Pokeball. Among other Legendaries. rotom isnt a hard pokemon to Catch lol

About the Journal Thingie. it Appears normally to anyone if they didnt play their game for a day. theres no way to disable it

My Question: I just want to know about this Mysterious Move: Psywave.

it always hits at Neutral Damage. and its Base Power is Unknown. does its Base Power Depends on something?

The only advice I have for the journal is to just hit A when it comes up.
I turned on my Platinum to figure out how to disable the journal, but it doesn't pop up for me anymore.. hm. To catch Rotom, Nest balls are fine considering it's only at level 15 when you run into it.
But if you can, try to get some Great Balls or Ultra Balls.

Rotom isn't a legendary..
About Psywave, for every level your Pokemon grows, the attack gets a little stronger.. by about 1-2 points.

Edit ; Did a little more research.. It has to do with the user's HP and their level..
So say you had a level 100 Misdreavus with HP of 324, Psywave damage could be anywhere between 1 HP and 486 HP.

-Leaf April 22nd, 2009 4:04 AM

Its platinum, so its level 20. i have a budew anyway since i take a roserade. but normal pokeballs seem to perform better than nest balls... anyway thanks. ill keep SR. its freakin' annoying. its kinda for getting me ready for giratina. (now that looks like blowing your brain off)

and rotom isn't a legend, but strangly the D/P booklet says it is..

That booklet was more than likely made before they decided to label Rotom 'non-legendary'.

-Leaf April 22nd, 2009 4:09 AM

and still it has the legendary music in plat.
well we are offtopic here.. sorry ><

EDIT : oh yeah, i have a question about two moves.
if a pokemon uses quick attack and the second one uses sucker punch, who will strike first?

This is not right. You press B to make the Journal go away. A just flips to the page before.
Also, to disable the Journal, you just need to have been playing for at least every other day. The journal only appears upon loading having not played for two days in a row. You can make it go away by saving.

Also wrong. It is not based on HP. It is based on level. It does anywhere between half to 150% the user's level. So if you had a level 100 Misdreavus and it used Psywave, it would do between 50 and 150 damage. The damage will round down, so a level 99 Misdreavus will do between 49 and 148 damage. A level 1 Pokemon will ALWAYS do 1 damage (it doesn't round down to zero).

Cresselia has normal battle music, but it's a legendary ;~;

Sucker Punch and Quick Attack are both Stage 1 speed, meaning the faster Pokemon will make the first move.

If I'm right, Sucker Punch should hit first because the other Pokemon intended to attack.

Another option would be that the Pokemon with faster speed strikes first.

Anything before the GBA games are incompatible with the DS games.

The people of Smogon discovered this shortly after the game's Japanese release.

I myself have tried all the new formes at least once against my Brother's Diamond.

Basically, they look like the original formes to the person with Diamond or Pearl, but their Abilities, Stats, and Typing are that of their new formes.

Platinum Orb(Forgot its Stupid English name) cannot be Stolen, Tricked, or Knocked Off, similar to the Plates when on Arceus. Gamefreak most likely did this so that Origin Forme could be used in Local Wireless like the 6 other new formes.

The reason why I'm stating this is because I've seen many people that think that they are completely unusable against D/P

Who moved this? I was Stating something, not asking a question :/

Thanks! But is Crystal compatable with the GBA games?

jigglyppuff8 April 22nd, 2009 12:56 PM

During the transition from the GB games (R/B/Y/G/S/C) to Gen III (R/S/E/FR/LG), the game's code had a near complete re-haul with changes like the 510 EV system, natures, abilities, higher IVs, and a revamped shiny system. So, no.

Short and sweet version: No.

No.

1st and 2nd Gen games can only work with other 1st and 2nd Gen Games (With some requirements when tradeing for GSC to RGBY)

These game are all compatable with each other:

Set 1:
-Pokemon Red Version
-Pokemon Green Version(Japan Only)
-Pokemon Blue Version
-Pokemon Pikachu Version (Pokemon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition in US)
-Pokemon Gold Version
-Pokemon Silver Version
-Pokemon Crystal Version
-Pokemon Stadium (Japan Only)*
-Pokemon Stadium 2 (Pokemon Stadium in US)*
-Pokemon Stadium GS (Pokemon Stadium 2 in US)

*Only works with 1st gen

Unlike 3rd and 4th Gen games, they can not trade between regions (EX: The Japan-Only Green cannot trade with an English Red)

Set 2:
-Pokemon Ruby Version
-Pokemon Sapphire Version
-Pokemon Fire Red Version
-Pokemon Leaf Green Version
-Pokemon Emerald Version
-Pokemon Diamond Version
-Pokemon Pearl Version
-Pokemon Platinum Version
-Pokemon Box: Ruby and Sapphire*
-Pokemon Colloseum*
-Pokemon XD: Dark Winds, Dark Lugia (Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness in US)*
-Pokemon Dash**
-Pokemon Battle Revolution***
-Pokemon Ranch (My Pokemon Ranch in US)***

*Only Works with 3rd Gen
**Only works with Emerald
***Only works with 4th Gen

Enlgish Ruby can Trade with Japanese Sapphire, Enlgish Diamond can trade with Japanese Pearl, but English Ruby CANNOT transfer to Japanese Diamond.

EDIT: Beaten. And I made it long and fancy, too :<

If I had a Pokemon holding a Flame Orb and used Psycho Shift, would I keep the power boost that comes with the Flame Orb?
And also would the Burn status come back the next turn?

Thanks. :)

jigglyppuff8 April 22nd, 2009 1:19 PM

There is no benefit from Flame Orb other than being burned. All Pokemon that can learn Psycho Shift seem to not be able to gain any benefit from being burned. You might be thinking about how Pokemon with Guts or Quick Feet benefit from it (none of them can learn Psycho Shift).

Yes, it will come back as long as your Pokemon is holding the item.

Almost complete Sinnoh Pokedex

Hi, I'm almost done with the pokedex in order to get the national one (and finally migrate my pokemons from greenleaf) but I need these in order to do so.

Does anybody know where can I find them? I already tried websites like serebii.net and such but they won't tell me if a trainer does have it or something more.

Missing
005
122
146
147
148
151
152
168
169

And that's it. I think I know where 146-148 are but the rest I really don't know where.

JP April 22nd, 2009 5:04 PM

Actually, Serebii just put in place a page that tells you where exactly to find all the Sinnoh Dex pokemon, whether they're wild or a trainers.

I'd say that the second option is correct; if Sucker Punch is used while a faster Pokémon uses Quick Attack, Sucker Punch would go second and fail.

does anyone know where to get slowpoke and poliwhirl in platinum?
also how do you get the deepsea scale/fang?

jigglyppuff8 April 23rd, 2009 11:42 AM

Slowpoke is found on route 205 via Pokeradar. Poliwhirl can be found on routes 227 and 228 by via Surfing.

In Diamond and Pearl, you could find DeepSeaScales on wild Chinchou, Lanturn and Relicanth; DeepSeaTooths on Carvanha and Sharpedo. The same should apply to Platinum.

I've never heard of a blank OT.
Chances are it's indeed hacked, or it's from Korea.
Korean characters don't display on American Pokemon games.

GFA April 23rd, 2009 2:04 PM

Poke Radar Pikachu

OK. Typically, the Poke Radar is used so that you can go out and catch shiny's or better yet, catch exclusive shinies. But my question is this could you use the Poke Radar to go Light Ball hunting? Discuss

jigglyppuff8 April 23rd, 2009 2:15 PM

Well, using the Pokeradar doesn't increase the chances of finding wild Pokemon with hold items. You could use the Pokeradar so that you would get a long chain of Pikachus and hope that one of them is holding a Light Ball (5% chance, btw), but that's pretty much it.

If your lead Pokemon has Compoundeyes, that increases the chance of finding a Pokemon with hold items.

Sweet Candace April 23rd, 2009 2:30 PM

Or you just hopefully get lucky. But as said earlier, Light Balls are hard to find.

The Green One April 23rd, 2009 2:38 PM

The easiest way to get a Pikachu is go to Trophy Garden with a Level 18 Pokemon at the top of your squad, and use some repels. You will only run into Pikachu's and the Pokemon of the day. If you take just two Pokemon with you (level 18 and your catching Pokemon such as Butterfree due to Compoundeyes) then you can catch a few and immediately see if they have a Light Ball. It worked for me on only my 3rd Pikachu. Also if you have a Shuppet with Frisk you can see what item it is holding.

GFA April 23rd, 2009 2:45 PM

Ooh, that helps me out a whole lot, thank you all for the insight

mineowyn April 23rd, 2009 3:55 PM

Hi I'm deciding on which version to get Diamond, Pearl or Platinum? What are the pros and cons of each version? I'd like to hear from people who've experienced playing any of the 3 games.

Kaseo April 23rd, 2009 4:13 PM

Pros of D/P: Cheaper. GTS cloning glitch
Platinum: Better in every other way

Sounds kind of silly huh? The only time you'll hear D/P is "better" is because a person played D/P, got Platinum, and then didn't see much different and wanted their money back.

GFA April 23rd, 2009 4:33 PM

OK, another Poke Radar question, I just caught 2 shinies, (Pikachu and Kricketune) and now I'm going after a Venonat, and the only way to catch it is with the Poke Radar, how can I tell what patch will have it in it? Or can I tell @ all?

The only way to tell is to go into the PokeRadar patches. Try both kinds of grasses.

Kaseo April 23rd, 2009 4:39 PM

As far as I know, pokerader only pokemon will not have any difference grass patch wise.

*Sigh* Oh well, Volt Tackle will wait... Thanks a bunch

lolwut April 23rd, 2009 5:06 PM

well i bred a team of:
staryu
houndour
aerodactyl
snorlax
elekid
bulbasaur
and i raised them all up to lvl 10 before i traded them to my platinum from diamond so i would have a team i love throughout the whole game without having to catch any pokemon, but for some reason, none of them will listen and i already have the first badge. I thought that after the first badge all pokemon up to lvl 20 would listen to you?

jigglyppuff8 April 23rd, 2009 5:09 PM

Actually, the 2nd badge and that allows all Pokemon up to lv. 30 to obey without question. 4th is lv. 50, 6th is lv. 70, and 8th is all.

Cheshire April 23rd, 2009 5:12 PM

This is probably a stupid question but, I recently got pokemon battle revolution and platinum and I can send a surfing pikachu to platinum right?

jigglyppuff8 April 23rd, 2009 5:18 PM

Assuming that Platinum can receive the same Mystery Gifts as Diamond and Pearl, then yes. You need to beat the Stargazer Colosseum on your first playthrough. Then it will be unlocked in the shop. It will also know Volt Tackle, be Hardy Nature, female, and holding a Light Ball.

You'll have to receive any Wonder Card distributed Pokes or items/berries onto D/P. But nothing is stopping you from doing a Union room trade to Plat.

JP April 23rd, 2009 6:55 PM

I'm thinking this is the right thread to ask...

During Wifi battles and all the rest of those wireless events, how is it decided what sprite is used to show your character?

jigglyppuff8 April 23rd, 2009 7:20 PM

If you mean the avatars such as the ones in the Pal Pad, they are determined by your Trainer ID. It is used to generate 4 random trainer classes you can choose from. You can change this from a guy in the Oreburgh Pokemon Center I believe.

pm_41 April 23rd, 2009 9:44 PM

Is there a way to clone in Platinum without AR? Does the GTS glitch still work?

diangelo April 24th, 2009 3:34 AM

Need some questions answered.

Hi there

Just found this place and noticed it seems to have a nice community feel and thought I would post aquestion that may appear silly but are in a way stumping me about Pokemon Platinum and Pearl.

- Are you able to find a group of Pokemon you like for a team (as in the graphic I guess), and then go and take moves from other Pokemon that your not terribly keen on but have great moves and give those to other Pokemon?
I think I remember in Diamond there was a way to steal a move from a Pokemon you had and give it to another. Is this something I dreamed or is it possible?

I am new to Pokemon and pretty much useless when it comes to the complexities of the game so if anyone is willing to give me some one on one help that would be awesome.

Thanks for reading

That is a dream, I'm pretty sure. =P (Leastways, it is when applied to the main handheld games such as Diamond/Pearl/Platinum). Each Pokemon has their own individual movesets, and they can't steal moves from other Pokemon (so you can't have, say, an exploding Charizard, or a Pikachu with Flamethrower). (BTW if you want to know all of the moves each Pokemon can get, try here: http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-dp/).

There is a way to pass moves on to others that Pokemon may not normally have though, and that's via breeding and passing down the moves from that, rather than stealing moves. But its still rather limited and only for 'feasible' moves that suit the Pokemon (well, for the most part anyway); there are guides all over the internet if you search for them on how to do that, but it's certainly not the way you imagined. The link I posted in the last paragraph also lists these by the way, as 'Egg moves'.

Hope that helps.

Well, I know there's a code for the Action Replay that lets you choose a variety of sprites for wifi, but as far as I know, that's for Diamond/Pearl, and I would need it for Platinum. Plus, I'd just like a legit way of changing the sprite to something I'd like. :P

Those are the only ones that will ever show up for the save file. If you start a new one, you should get different trainer classes.

Very much hacked. You can't breed abilities, and spiritomb has no weaknesses so Nintendo wouldn't put wonderguard on it. Tyranitar can't have rough skin, its ability is sand stream.

Wifi Battling!?!

Can you fight someone at random? or do you have to have Friend Codes?

processr April 24th, 2009 1:41 PM

You have to exchange Friend Codes to battle someone on Wi-Fi. Blame Nintendo's reliance on them. =/

Gusxx1 April 24th, 2009 1:48 PM

You can also download real peoples trainer data at the battle tower.. I don't assume that would be considered the same although it is still wi-fi.

Gymnotide April 24th, 2009 2:28 PM

You can use PokeSAV to change your trainer ID and your sprite in the Union Room.
It would be safe to delete the program after.

Gusxx1 April 24th, 2009 3:17 PM

So today, I hatched an egg and when it hatched it showed as shiny. But when i view it's summary it isn't shiny... Whys that? (I've tried rehatching it 3 times, Each time it appears as shiny but isnt in the summary)

Cura April 24th, 2009 3:21 PM

Mostly a glitch or [ that the game has no status of shines anymore. ( Most unlikely ) ]

Blaziken_Boy April 24th, 2009 3:26 PM

Can you actually catch a Level 100 Magikarp somewhere, and is there a way to evolve it?

jigglyppuff8 April 24th, 2009 3:28 PM

Yes. It's only in Platinum though and you have to use a Super Rod at the Resort Area. There is no way to evolve it if it's lv. 100.

Cura April 24th, 2009 3:43 PM

Oh, that king of the Resort Area thing, I did that...
It was only Level 98 though... :(

How would you know it's one of the choices? The choices are trainer
ID-specifc, and they only show 4 out of whatever amount of trainers.
Also, it's a rough neck or whatever.

Could you elaborate on these "safety" issues with PokeSav?
Purely out of curiosity and interest, of course.

blaQk April 24th, 2009 7:59 PM

Sucks that you can't double battle over WiFi, also.

LethalTexture April 24th, 2009 11:38 PM

I'll cart this thing over the the Q&A thread where it belongs, and you may just get some more helpful answers. =D

Meant that there would be no harm to your game after using the program.
... If your trainer ID was the only thing you changed.

Of course, you would need to edit the IDs of all of your Pokemon and the trainer sprite needs to correspond with the ID.

Sorry but that doesnt mean a thing to me....

Regigigas April 25th, 2009 2:43 AM

You get there from the ship in Snowpoint City. And if you don't know where that is, check the Town Map.

Sundown April 25th, 2009 2:46 AM

I was about to ask the same question but i got my answer as well, thanks!

Red Rain April 25th, 2009 5:08 AM

On the GTS, every search I made came up as a normal Pokemon etc. When looking at what pokemon the people wanted in return, I could see their location, the name of the Pokemon they are after and the gender. However, for every single search, the level they wanted did not show? Why is this?

Can you take a video of it hatching or any screen shots at all? Also, try sending it in to battle and see what happens.

Milke April 25th, 2009 11:01 AM

Platinum EV training locations?

Not sure if this goes here...oh well.

Are the EV training spots the same for Platinum and Diamond/Pearl?

HP: Wooper/Quagsire pond(West of Pastoria, Woopers and Quagsires)
Atk: Snowpoint-lakefront(West of Snowpoint, Machokes and Snovers)
Def: Iron Island(Iron Island, Onix/Graveler/etc.)
SpAtk: Golduck Pond(Resort Area, Golducks)
SpDef: Tentacool lake(Southeast of Pastoria, Tentacools)
Spd: Fight Area place(Northwest of Fight area, Fearows and Raticates)

The only one I'm really iffy about is Golduck pond...is it still there?

The Hero Without a Name April 25th, 2009 11:04 AM

Well, that Scientist in the hidden bicycle path @ the route west of Pastoria has a Magneton and Alakazam now (as opposen to just two Alakazams). Many other trainers I used to train on aren't as efficient anymore. I just EV train on DP then ship them over to Platinum.

kissing. raindrops April 25th, 2009 11:05 AM

For Special Attack the best place is the Old Chateau, Gastly (1), Haunter (2), and Gengar (3).

lolwut April 25th, 2009 11:06 AM

i know, i wasnt really asking for beating lost tower but i meant just in general for lvls and pokemon for at that point in the game, lost tower/solaceon town

"Shadow Lugia" April 25th, 2009 11:06 AM

The HP spot doesn't work anymore, and the Resort Area Pond now has the occasional Psyduck.

Milke April 25th, 2009 11:09 AM

Ok...so where is the best place for HP?

-Leaf April 25th, 2009 11:11 AM

if i have a gardevoir, and i want to pass down shadow ball and thunderbolt to a ralts, it is female and males are supposed to passing down moves. can i breed with ditto and get the moves (i would rather try but i don't have a ditto yet)

kissing. raindrops April 25th, 2009 11:21 AM

Bidoof give off 1 HP EV, and they're really common. I use them.

Milke April 25th, 2009 11:25 AM

Never mind, I found an FAQ on another site.

Mods can close this now, and we should add a platinum ev training section to our FAQ.

I use Route 205. There's a 75% chance of encountering Bidoof or Shellos.
