I personally have only caught it with a Super Rod however I never bothered to get the old rod and I switched between the Good and Super fishing 3 times with each.

Amore August 25th, 2010 11:15 AM

http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Feebas

This only specifically mentions Super Rod for Diamond/Pearl.

http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Mt._Coronet

This says "Super Rod", but hover over the levels and it says "The Old or Good Rods will also work".

Through my powers of deduction (some say I'm better than Poirot and Sherlock Holmes' lovechild :P) I can conclude that you can catch it with any rod. However I'd advise using Super Rod just because Magikarp coming up is so horrendously irritating ;)

Is there any way to send/receive Wonder Cards? ie: Secret Key to change Rotom or Member's Card for Darkrai or Edge of Night Sky Jirachi?

Some of the cards you can transfer to a friend. I believe it needs to be done Wirelessly, (two DS in the same room).

When you go to the Mystery Gift screen, you can select to view your cards. There should be an option there to send it to a friend if it is possible to do so. I unfortunately do not know which ones can be gifted and which ones cannot. (I know the Night Sky Jirachi cannot be sent to a friend, though.)

How do I catch a Cresselia with a Nature I require?

Save before you talk to it at Full Moon Island. Release it into Sinnoh then catch it. If it doesn't have the nature you want, you have to reset to before you released it.

BlueEew August 26th, 2010 3:21 PM

Just read this..

Quote:

From Emerald onwards, if the Pokémon with this ability is leading the party, Synchronize gives a 50% chance of encountering a wild Pokémon with the same nature. However, this does not apply to any Pokémon created with Method 1 of the random number generator. This includes Emerald's 'one-off' Pokémon such as legendaries, Castform, and Beldum, as well as Generation IV's roaming legendaries and its non-legendary one-offs, including Bebe's Eevee and the Porygon in Veilstone City.
Will Heatran from Platinum and the Enigma Stone Latias from SoulSilver work with this method as I would like certain Natured Legends.

Yes, it will work with any Pokemon in Emerald, Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Heart Gold, and Soul Silver.

At the end of the cycle road in diamond, after you had just received the bicycle and arrive to the next road, you meet dawn again for the second time I beleive, and she gives you two options to choose (left or right hand). What does she gives you in each options and if I choose one, will I be able to obtain the other things later in the game or not?

Surmonter August 28th, 2010 5:46 PM

She gives you the same thing no matter what.

^^^ Agree with the above. However, if you have/can get your hands on a Pokemon with the ability Synchronize and the nature you're looking for, you can put it at the head of your party and the Cresselia will have a 50% percent chance of getting the nature you want.:)

Manaphy help?!

I really want to complete the sinnoh pokedex, and it says on serebii that I need to find a manaphy. I know where the manaphy is, (the backlot mansion I think?) in a book. But when I try and read the book it just says, "its a very expensive-looking book on Pokemon." It's really frustrating me :( Please help!

Alternative August 30th, 2010 11:36 PM

Manaphy is an event Pokemon, only obtainable through various events, namely Pokemon Ranger, which gives you a Manaphy egg when you get it.

Try the Wifi Corner and ask for one.

Well, if it says that and doesn't ask if you want to read it, chances are you are playing Diamond or Pearl, in which case you don't need Manaphy. You only need Manaphy in Platinum. If you are playing Platinum, you're talking to the wrong book then, because no matter how early in the game you are at, it will show you a picture of Manapy and add it to your dex. The book is on the desk right behind Backlot or whatever in his mansion on the table.

If I recall, you could capture your Pokemon from Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald in Pearl/Diamond's Pal Park, which for all I know could have been on that route as I've never used it.

You cannot use Masterballs in Pal Park. That pokemon was caught using one.

Therefore that Pokemon was hacked using Action Replay on Route 229 and was caught using hacked Masterballs too.

Whoever traded you that Pokemon should definitely be on the blacklist. It's unacceptable.

If your game is not Platinum then you cannot get the Pokédex data. If it is Platinum then you have to read the book on the table in the room where the owner of the Mansion.

I was EV Training today and I forgot to take the HP Power Item off when I switched over to Attack EV's.

I battled 1 Machop with the HP Power Item and I also have PokeRus. How many EV's did I gain and what stat are they in. I want to use the Berries to fix it, however I am not sure what EV's I gained?

In Diamond Battle Tower after battling the Tycoon Challanger the second time do you only encounter Legendary Pokemon. From battle 49 upwards.

Legendary Pokemon aren't the only Pokemon you encounter from the 49th battle onwards. You'll also see fully evolved Pokemon, with strong movesets as well.

BlueEew September 4th, 2010 4:04 AM

On my Diamond I PalParked over six Pokemon from my FireRed game. I sent over the three birds, Mewtwo, Pupitar, and the UK Aura Mew (which I got myself from the Event.)

However all of them say they are from Kanto, and the Mew says it's from Hoenn. Which is this? I have never used any cheat devices, used glithes, or even traded with anyone ever, so I cannot understand why??

Amore September 4th, 2010 6:59 AM

I think that means your Mew was given out when Emerald was the newest mainstream game? I'm not sure when it was.

But if it was intended to be sent to Emerald......then in D/P it may be coded in to go as a "Hoenn", not a "Kanto"

The region is based on where the Pokemon was obtained, not what game it was transferred from. Certain GBA events, like Aura Mew, are coded to appear to be obtained from the Hoenn region. It's fine and legit, don't worry about it. :)

Regardless of RSE or FRLG, all 3 of your event Mew will always have region Hoenn in DPPt.

Diamond and Pearl was already out when the Event took place.

I got three of these Mews, one on Emerald, one on two of my FireRed games.

The Mew I transfered was put onto my FireRed game, and left straight from there to Diamond.

Nevermind got my Answer. :)

If a growlithe egg is made in HGSS with Morning Sun, will it still have Morning Sun if traded to DPP and hatched there?

Weavile05 September 9th, 2010 2:42 AM

It should, I think the egg's moves are programmed as soon as it is layed, not when it hatches.

It will most definetly know Morning Sun. I traded the HGSS Togepi to my Platinum for a challenge, and it still knew Extrasensory. So, no worries. =D

You can turn the DS off with no problem and resume the next day. It won't affect your chances of encountering a shiny if you shut it off.

Soft reset is to conserve power/save on wear and tear as opposed to turning the unit off and back on again. Otherwise, both actions have the same effect as far as trying to encounter a shiny.

In Emerald onwards, if you give the female Pokemon (or Ditto) the Everstone prior to dropping the parents off to the Day Care, the chances of the baby having the Ditto/female Pokemon's nature will be 50/50. I don't know about ability, though, but it's determined when the egg is created..

Simmo0916 September 16th, 2010 7:00 AM

Im having real trouble getting my Tyrogue to breed with a ditto... Is there something i should be looking for? Do certain natures not breed? Will changing the Ditto in the day care make a difference?

Cheers guys!

Another question... bit daft though!

What exactly is a Soft Reset and how do i do it?

:D

Christopher September 16th, 2010 7:07 AM

just give them time they'll breed if they have two different ID numbers they will breed faster.
Soft reset resets the system without actually turning the power off to preform L+R+Start+Select = Soft Reset

Kinolis September 16th, 2010 9:21 AM

Question: How is switching Pokemon in the middle of battle handled in the new games? Specifically, which of my Pokemon receive the free attack by the enemy?

The situation is very straight-forward: my pokemon A is out and I want to switch him for pokemon B. When I confirm sending out pokemon B, does the enemy attack A, B or both? Is this answer always the same or can speed (or held items) change who gets hit?

Thank you!

Christopher September 16th, 2010 10:18 AM

B gets hit unless they use a high priority move only one I know of is Pursuit

Kinolis September 16th, 2010 12:12 PM

Another question: if my Pokemon faints, then does the enemy get a free attack against the Pokemon I choose to replace the fainted one?

Depends. Did the opponent's Pokemon defeat yours? If so, no. Did you switch out a new Pokemon while your old Pokemon was still alive? If so, yes, the opponent will get to hit your new Pokemon, assuming he doesn't use Pursuit as mentioned above.

Pokerus is a "disease" that a Pokemon very rarely picks up by battling wild Pokemon (the chances of getting it are even less than seeing a shiny Pokemon). This virus is beneficial because it doubles the EVs your Pokemon gets after defeating another Pokemon. You can tell if a Pokemon has Pokerus by looking at its summary. If you see "PKRS," then that Pokemon has Pokerus. To spread Pokerus, put the infected Pokemon and the Pokemon you want to infect in your party, then walk around and/or engage in a few battles. Later, your other Pokemon will be infected.

However, Pokerus goes away in a few days, when it will be replaced by a dot in R/S/E or a smiley face in D/P/Pt/HG/SS. To prevent Pokerus from going away, put the infected Pokemon in the PC.

Use Togepi or Togetic in a double battle with Smeargle. Both Pokemon learn Yawn and Wish by level up.

When you send both of them out, have Togepi/Togetic use the move you want to Sketch, then target Togepi/Togetic with Smeargle's Sketch. Since you want your Smeargle to have both Wish and Yawn, you'll have to wait until it learns Sketch again (which is every 10 level starting from 1).

It is normal, you have to click on X button to open the menu.
Or you have to change the option X = Start.

Go with Piplup or Chimchar!!!!!! Turtwig sucks!!! So does the majority of the grass starters.

you could post its details on here and we can give our "Expert" opinion on whether its hacked or not but if your friend breed it, it is most likely legit.

@LTSang I would go with Chimchar for your first run but if you want a really cool pokemon go with Turtwig it is a great pokemon.

Amazing luck in Nuzlocke Challenge

Ok, so I decided to do the Nuzlocke challenge in Diamond. Along with the basic rules I allowed myself 1 pokemon fossil. Well so I am motoring along to get to the pokemon daycare and I get ready to catch my newest pokemon in the grass before the town. And low and behold, its a Chansey!! I was able to catch it, I couldn't believe how lucky I was. Not only that, I almost pooped myself when I saw that she was holding a Lucky Egg!!!!
So, considering I need Chansey to know a good offensive move for this challenge, what should I teach her or what should I do?

For anyone who doesn't know what a Nuzlocke challenge is, its special rules for playing pokemon. The base rules are

1. When a pokemon faints its considered dead and you have to release it
2. You can only catch the first pokemon you see on every route
3. Once all your pokemon die you have to restart the game

Eh, Chansey should not be attacking, but if she must, try Ice Beam or Flamethrower. She excels at using supporting moves such as Softboiled (works like an HM in party), Toxic, Heal Bell (tutor), Light Screen, Stealth Rock...

I thought the effects stayed?

The SPREADING of the Pokemon Virus will stop, but the doubling of EVs will stay permanently with that Pokemon. If the Pokemon is in your party, it will spread the virus, and it will wear off in about a day or two. Box it away to "freeze" it. It's a very beneficial effect for when EV training. I hope that answers your question. :3

Amore September 28th, 2010 12:56 PM

It actually wears off if your pokemon is outside of the pc box when your clock turns over to a new day.

Hey, I really need to find the move deleter in Platinum and I can't remember where he was. Darn, I always lose track of the move deleter in every game...

TwilightBlade October 2nd, 2010 12:17 PM

The move deleter in Platinum is in Canalave City. The house is south of the Pokemon Center.

Quick Question:

I want to restart my Platinum, but I have already got that Secret Key event to change Rotom. If I restart Platinum will that Key go away forever?

Elite Overlord LeSabre™ October 2nd, 2010 10:19 PM

I would imagine so, since all items are erased when you start over, and once you claim the Secret Key from the Poke Mart delivery man, it's counted as another key item.

Amore October 3rd, 2010 1:30 AM

Yes, the Secret Key dissappears, as do Oak's Letter and the one to get Darkrai (I had those, restarted, they went).

The first Gym Leader (Roark) is located in Oreburgh City. If you go north of Jubilife and turn right when you see an opening, it will lead you there. Of course you'll have to battle some trainers before reaching Orebrugh, but you'll see an entrance to a cave. Enter the cave and as you go straight across you will reach Oreburgh City. :)

After battling Roark and winning, you will have access to downstairs of the Pokémon Center. Go there and the lady in there will ask and explain a few things to you; one of those things being how to receive your Friend Code. After she finishes telling you about the room, talk to anyone of the other ladies there and then you will be asked to see your Friend Code.

Good luck!

Hey. I was wondering if, when you breed hacks, the eggs are also considered hacks? Sorry if this is in the wrong place.

Pokémon that are bred with hacked Pokémon are considered legit. They won't become unlegit unless you modify them with a hack engine or cheat of some sort.

Are Lady Kylie and Rich Boy Roman a brother and sister on a date (but unaware of it)? They are the couple at the top and center of the restaurant in Valor Lakefront.

If you talk to Lady Kylie, she says she will battle you if you don't tell her date that her dad owns the restaurant. If you talk to Rich Boy Roman, he says he has to hand it to his father, the hors d'oeuvres are great.

Then when you defeat them, they both say, "How could I lose in Papa's restaurant!"

I have no idea really, but from the info given I guess they're siblings.

...Though, it's possible that the random trainer generator (as the trainers are random every day) happened to pair them together. In that case I guess it could be considered a glitch.

I think the pairings are set; i.e., you'll see different pairs in the restaurant each day, but the same people remain paired together.

Oh yeah, you've got a point... If that's the case, then I guess they're siblings. Or perhaps your game is acting weird :D

I've always assumed that Roman's dad is the chef and Kylie's dad is the manager.

Oh yeah! Now I get it! :O

It's true as Pyrax said, Roman's dad is the chef and Kylie's dad is the manager. I used to think about this back when I played Diamond, and I came to think about the different fathers that they were talking about.

So, the joke in the situation is obviously that both parts have a father working in the restaurant, but neither of them knows the other do.

serabeth October 12th, 2010 10:29 AM

^ Oooooooh ok. Well that's a lot better than the brother/sister thing I thought was going on :P!

A problem in the underground in Platinum

Hope I can post it here... If not, please move it in the right forum/delete it!^^

Okay, here's my problem: Everytime I go in the underground and go into the menu there and click "traps" I get back to the titlescreen! Everytime... Although I don't really care about the traps (no one that wants to do some stuff in the underground with except for Spiritomb!^^) I'd really like to make another secret base but, well, I can't!^^ I heard from other forums that other people have the same problem but nowhere was a real solution so many think that it's the same like the berry glitch in R/S...^^ Maybe one of you has the same problem and can tell me how to fix it...^^

Sho7gun October 18th, 2010 5:16 AM

sounds like a glitch to me :| not heard that one before sorry. I own Diamond and not Platinum, my Real Life friends have platinum however so i can ask if that happens on their versions? might take a day or two to find out however :S

Event Arceus

I cheated to get the Azure Flute, I've caught Palkia (In 3 turns, lucky indeed) and I beat the elite four last night, I just went to Spear Pillar hoping to battle Arceus (I only want it so I can trade it to HeartGold to get a Dialga). I tried to use the Azure Flute and nothing happened, just the Rowan's words echoed message, can anyone tell me why it hasn't worked? I haven't battled the lake guardians yet, could that have anything to do with it?

Thank you in advance

Amore October 22nd, 2010 7:59 AM

That'll be it.

I'm guessing you can't activate the event until you've got the National Pokedex (Shaymin isn't available until you've got it, after all, although that may be due to location more than anything, and I think Darkrai probably isn't either).

And you need to battle the Lake Guardians to get the National Pokedex!

Kenshin5 October 22nd, 2010 8:04 AM

I am not sure if Hall of Origin Arceus will even activate the event at Sinjoh Ruins. You probably want to go for Movie Arceus instead.

You need to make sure that an event flag has been tripped to have the item be useful

The Arceus from the Hall of Origin will activate the event. It will activate the event a second time if you have already done it with a movie Arceus.

I'm not sure if this has brought up yet because I'm not too willing to breeze through 200+ pages of this xD but does competing with a pokemon make it happy? I've been trying to evolve a buneary for awhile and ive gotten 8 ribbons but it still feels like it's nowhere close to evolving @[email protected]

this is going to sound incredibly stupid and has probably been answered a million times but how does one exactly breed? and how would I go about doing so in pokemon platinum?

You raise happiness by:
Walking 256 steps
Massage (Veilstone City)
Massage (Ribbon Syndicate)
Using vitamins
Level up
Using EV reducing Berries
Haircut brothers (HeartGold, SoulSilver)
Daisy grooming (HeartGold, SoulSilver)

You decrease happiness by:
Fainting
Using EnergyPowder
Using HealPowder
Using Energy Root
Using Revival Herb

Contests, depositing in the box, feeding poffins, actively healing, etc are not known to influence happiness, I believe.

You can breed two compatible Pokemon in Solaceon. Bulbapedia has an excellent breeding guide.

dave88 October 25th, 2010 3:25 PM

I asked a while ago if pokemon bred from hacks are considered hacks. I got the answer no. However, I notice that the bred pokemon have the IDno. 00000 and in the Trade Corner Rules and Hacked List glossary those are considered hacks. So, are they hacks or not?

Griffinbane October 25th, 2010 3:38 PM

"Bred" pokemon with the ID 00000 are not bred, they're hacked. The info was merely hacked to say hatched.

But I bred them from hacks myself...

Griffinbane October 25th, 2010 4:23 PM

If you bred them yourself, it should have YOUR trainer ID. Assuming you are legitimately breeding them yourself and not hacking, your game is messed up for some reason.

dave88 October 25th, 2010 5:17 PM

Oh.. I get it. This was one of those "unlocked" games they sell on Ebay. The trainer ID is 00000 which is why the eggs have it. Thanks for the help.

I was on the route South of Veilstone in Diamond when I stumbled across a wild Vulpix. However when I looked up it's location in the National Dex it said it's Area was unknown. Was this because I imported a Ninetales from my Leafgreen game by any obscuere chance?

I think that this is because you have your GBA game inserted, right?
Some pokemons appear when you insert FR/LG/R/S/E in the GBA Slot ;D
