Quick question on breeding. If I breed ditto with another pokemon and the daycare man says they like to play with other pokemon will they make an egg? same question for when they dont seem to like each other.

jigglyppuff8 April 14th, 2009 1:04 PM

If they "Prefer to play with other Pokemon", and egg isn't going to happen. Usually involves legendaries, genderless, and other Pokemon that can't breed (Nido evos, baby Pokemon).
If they "Don't like each other much", there will be an egg, you'll just have to be very patient. Usually happens with most Pokemon that aren't the same species bred are together and were originally caught by you.
If they "Seem to get along", there will be an egg. This usually happens when either a traded Pokemon is being bred with one of your Pokemon/another person's traded Pokemon or if the Pokemon are both the same species.
If they "Get along really well", expect a lot of eggs quickly. This usually happens when a traded Pokemon is being bred with your Pokemon/another person's traded Pokemon AND both Pokemon are the same species.

I think that eventually you always end up with an egg.
I just got an egg of two Pokémon who don't like eachother at all, so my guess is that the old guy's just a bit senile :p Don't worry, you'll get the egg.

What is the combination needed for Soft Resetting?
soft resetting doesn't affect the game right? no battary life going down or some other thing?

Metagross
Golem
Milotic
Lugia
Camerupt
Tyranitar
Cresselia
Zapdos
Ho oh
Just which ones out of those and i didnt wanna post in the moveset thread because i dont need help with that i just need help making a team out of all of those.

Of the ones you suggested,

Sal, Dusk, Elec, Jolt, Rhy, Meta, Milo, Tyra, Cres, and Zap are OU (overused).
This means they are used often in the competitive metagame. They are generally good at doing what they do and outclass most other things.

Golem and Camerupt fall under the UU/NU (underused/never used) category, which means that they generally suck compared to other Pokemon. Golem is completely outclassed by some higher ups, like Rhyperior. Camerupt is NU, meaning that you will scarcely see it in battle. Camerupt does have its merits in Lava Plume and unique typing, but it will get creamed in OU play.

Ho-Oh and Lugia are UBER, meaning that if you as much as include either in your team, your team will face off against FULL UBER teams, no matter how many OU you have. Ubers have superior stats and better attacks, which means everything basically falls against it.

Now, the second thing you want to do is balance out your weaknesses and resistances:
http://pokemon.marriland.com/diamond_pearl/team_builder/

Then, you want to make movesets for them. If you need help, here is inspiration:
http://www.smogon.com/dp/pokemon/

Then the next best thing to do is test it on Shoddy, which I fail to have a link of and CBF to find because this post is abominably long.

Start + Select + L + R. It's just like turning off the game normally.

ProfessorMiles April 14th, 2009 1:53 PM

Well. i did this Idea. and Im doing Fine in the game. because i caught it as the first pokemon i caught, and started this idea since the beginning. and keeping both my pokemon at the same level. it was great. The only trouble i had was it took me 3 tries to beat the 3rd gym, because Shinx's Bite wasnt strong enough to one hit. So on my 3rd time i was able to get around that problem. ^_^

Kudra April 14th, 2009 2:33 PM

In-game it is a bad idea unless the move you want is one or two levels after it would have evolved. The stat boosts from evolving prove to be more useful in tough battle in the main game.

On another note I actually prefer having spark to thunder fang. The only advantage thunderfang has to spark is the chance to flinch as well. Spark has the same base power, has 5 pp more than thunder fang, has a 30% paralysis ratio as opposed to thunderfang's 10% chance to flinch or paralyze, and does not have that 5% chance to miss the opponent. However, that's just my personal preference between the two moves. You can go through the game fine with either move, however, so you're better off just going with spark which Luxio will learn at level 18 and evolving.

All three of them are different Pokemon, each with different stats and movesets. Also, Mesprit runs away instead of fighting when first encountered, meaning that it needs to be tracked using the Marking Map Poketch application.

dc_united April 14th, 2009 4:05 PM

I'm trying to beef up my Houndoom for the elite four, but I have serious problems trying to getting it's defense higher. I've fought lots of high attack and high defense pokemon, and used 'physical' moves, but every time it levels up, it's "Special attack +4! Or attack +3! And always, defense +1." If anyone can give me any help, it would be appreciated, as my Houndoom can only take 2-3 hits before fainting.

jigglyppuff8 April 14th, 2009 4:42 PM

Houndoom's Defense stat is relatively low having a base stat 50, and its HP isn't something to brag about either, being 75. Combine the two, and it isn't going to survive long. Typically, since it's an in-game team, it would be better just to have it at a high enough level so that it OHKOs most of the Elite Four's (and Champion's) Pokemon.

The nature may also have something to do with it. Natures typically increase the power of one stat, but decrease another's. Natures and their effects can be found here.

If you really want to boost your Pokemon's stats badly, then you might want to look up EVs and IVs. Both are values that determine the strengths of a Pokemon's stats. EVs, also known as effort values, are gained from battling and gaining experience from them. The amount and kind of EVs you gained are determined by the Pokemon being battled. Battling high defense Pokemon give defense EVs, high attack gives attack EVs etc. Check out this guide for more details.
IVs, also known as indiviudal values, are unchanging values that determine a Pokemon's stats. They range on a scale from 0-31 in each of the 6 stats and are determined the moment you encounter a Pokemon. The higher the IV in a stat, the higher the stat will typically be.

HOWEVER, even with EVs and IVs, Pokemon's stats are limited by their base stats. Houndoom will always have a low defense stat no matter how hard you train it.

Does this help?

What is the best Hidden Power to set on a Psychic Type pokemon?

Kudra April 14th, 2009 7:08 PM

It depends on what the psychic is and what it can't use normally. Ice is usually a good choice, though.

It depends on what the Pokemon can't hit through other moves.

HP Fire is basically only for Scizor.

HP Ice can apply to a few of the dragons.

HP Ground can knock around Heatran

HP Fight might be preferred over Focus Blast due to FB's less than stellar accuracy.

It is in a row. Sorry, and I think that with the Battle Frontier upgrade in Platinum changes that trainer card upgrade. But if you are playing on D/P, then it is in a row.

I accidently used a action replay code to get the national dex, but it didn't fill my sinnoh dex, so then i went and filled my dex the hard way. I found out i was not given a poke radar, and i am not allowed to go to no area except the battle frontier. I can get to places like the migration station, and catching the legend birds.

The rule is always that you can only Wi-Fi any Pokemon you've already seen.
That being said, you can not transfer Platinum-only items over to D/P. Special forms are reverted.

edit Another caveat is that some Pokemon cannot be placed on the GTS because their locations do not match up with where you find it in D/P. I am not sure if this issue has been addressed yet. For example, if you were able to capture Deoxys at Route X, but in Platinum, you capture it at Route P instead (because the location was moved), the GTS will register that Pokemon as potentially hacked and will not allow it to be traded. I think this also applies for the Distortion World?

Of the following effects, which stack?
Intimidate / Cleanse Tag / Black Flute

Does Flash Cannon change colors depending on the Pokemon using it? I swore it was grey when my Blastoise used it, but it's purple when this Forretress used it on me.

which attack would do more damage on my metagross: psychic or zen headbutt
Attk: 405

jigglyppuff8 April 16th, 2009 3:01 PM

Since Metagross is typically a physical Pokemon. Physical moves are more suited for it so Zen Headbutt would be the better choice.

I am quite tired of staravia. The intimidate makes the game go slower.

jigglyppuff8 April 16th, 2009 5:53 PM

Go to options and set battle scene to off. That way, you don't see the animation for stat loss or any other move for that matter. Makes in-game battles quicker.

Intimidate can stack, Cleanse Tag IIRC only works if it's on the lead Pokemon so it cannot stack, and Black Flute...I believe it merely has the same effect as a Repel, right? Don't believe it would stack then... (can't use multiple Repels at once). Educated guess however.

I meant Intimidate's overworld effect. If you have a Pokemon with Intimidate on the frontlines, Pokemon are less likely to appear -- the same effect as Cleanse Tag. In fact, Keen Eye has the same overworld effect, but you can't have two abilities at the same time, so I didn't mention it. Black Flute temporarily reduces the amount of Pokemon seen, but does NOT have the same effect as Repel. It merely decreases the frequency of appearance rate.

My question was if you could combine these effects to reduce the amount of Pokemon you see without having to use Repel.

bobandbill April 16th, 2009 9:27 PM

Ah, ok. Misunderstood - didn't know you mean their overworld effects all at once. In that case, I wouldn't know, sorry... and after a good search still don't know either. =/ At any rate, I just use Repels. =P

(As for Flash Cannon, when I use it with different Pokemon (including a Blastoise) it's always purple for me - although it could differ if an opponent uses it? BTW that was on my Diamond version).

I don't think there's a way to remove the national dex once you get it. But, if you used an AR code to get the national dex, why don't you use AR codes to get the Poké Radar and to get to the other areas around the Battle Frontier? If worst comes to worst, you can use a walk-through-walls code to reach the Pokémon Centers in Survival Area and Resort Area, and after you've visited them once, you can use Fly to get back to them later even if the sprites blocking the roads never move.

Be careful if you try that, though, since it's really easy to mess things up with AR. (As you've probably figured out by now. :P)

—————————————————

Quick question, more about curiosity than anything else: I had closed my DS while standing near a few berry trees. When I opened my game up, one of the trees sparkled. I walked over and clicked on it and all it said was "this Qualot plant is growing bigger. Want to sprinkle some water?" Nothing out of the ordinary, then. So, why did it sparkle?

My guess is that, maybe, berry trees sparkle when they grow taller? I hadn't been paying attention to the Qualot until it sparkled (heck, I didn't even know it was a Qualot until it sparkled), so I wasn't watching to see if it grew from a sprout to a taller plant. Does anyone know for sure what the sparkle means?

jigglyppuff8 April 17th, 2009 2:31 PM

That's just what the sparkle means. It went into its next phase (seed → seedling → "growing bigger" → blooming → berry) while you were around it. Just a neat little aesthetic feature.

Is there anyplace that has more detailed information on the Platinum Villa than what's on Serebii or Bulbapedia? I particularly want to know if there's some sort of schedule or criteria for people to visit, since it lists only a few people whom you need certain items to have visit (like Prof. Rowan and Gardenia), but what of the others? And when/how often do visits occur?

I think the visits are randomly generated for each day, like the trainer cafe. I am not sure, so don't quote me for this.

I have had Crasher Wake / Fantina appear in my house too, so I don't know how that plays in.

Yes you can stack these to achieve an encounter rate lower than any other also having a higher level on said pokemon will help

That said a lv. 100 pokemon with the intimidate ability and a cleanse tag/incense on it while using max repel then using black flute will lower your encounter rate significantly

I have a few questions about Duskull
1. Were can I find one ?
2. When does it evolve ?
3.How do you get a Dusknoir do you train it or trade it ?

jigglyppuff8 April 18th, 2009 4:14 AM

1. In D/P, it's on route 224. It's a Pokeradar Pokemon.
In Platinum, it's on Route 209 (night), Lost Tower (night), and Turnback Cave.
2. It evolves into Dusclops at lv. 37.
3. You trade it while it is holding a Reaper Cloth which you can find in Route 229 in D/P and Acuity Lakefront in Platinum.

See, that was the info I'd already found. I was just wondering if at least one site had gone more in-depth with it like maybe extracted data on who comes when and the other folks that apparently don't require a certain item. The info that's out is so vague.

I just notied that you can bury as many of same kind of sphere in the same spot as you want. Whats the point of this?

jigglyppuff8 April 19th, 2009 11:25 AM

Well, if you bury several of the same spheres in the same spot and dig them up again, then you get 1 bigger sphere afterwards. It's kinda useful if your spheres were just a few sizes short of getting an item you wanted.

Shem April 19th, 2009 11:27 AM

so it adds them all up? Or does it just increase the rate of growth?

jigglyppuff8 April 19th, 2009 11:30 AM

It adds them up, but it's weighted. Don't expect a size 99 sphere if you bury a size 50 and a size 44 sphere in the same spot. Not sure of the exact calculations, atm.

Miltank & Tauros in Platinum -- IMPOSSIBLE TO GET?!

Okay, so the Pokédex in Pokémon Platinum, along with Serebii, Bulbapedia, and everywhere else says that you can find Miltank and Tauros on Route 210 South using the PokéRadar. But Route 210 South has no grass that you can use the PokéRadar in!! There's only the tall grass that you can't ride a bike through, which you also can't use the PokéRadar in. So how are you supposed to get Miltank and Tauros in Platinum?! Did Nintendo and Game Freak just mess up, or is there a way that I'm not seeing?

jigglyppuff8 April 19th, 2009 1:05 PM

Just before you hit the northern section of route 210, there should be 2 grassy patches to the right and left that you can use the Pokeradar in.

Here's a map for reference: http://archives.bulbagarden.net/w/upload/5/50/Route_210.jpg

Not in Platinum. The grass was replaced with flowers...

EDIT: Never mind, you were right. I wasn't going up high enough. >_>

Secret Key Wi-fi

Is this in the right place?......oh well never mind. Anyway I was wondering, I'm using a USA Platinum cartridge in Singapore and I heard that the Secret Key was going to be available on Wi Fi. Would I be able to obtain it?

BlazingLink April 20th, 2009 1:07 AM

No, I think you HAVE to be in America.

The Argentavis April 20th, 2009 1:30 AM

No, you don't have to be in America, although, if there's an American base near you, it might get better "key" reception (Pun intended >.<)
It should be based on the game card.

EV training question!

I'm having trouble with EVs at the moment. I'm kind of new to the whole EV training thing, and I need some help.

You see, I'm training my Rotom, in Platinum, in the defense stat. It is in fact, holding a Power Belt. Now, checking Serebii, training off of some Pelippers would be good, and I did that. I remember one time, it gained a level and received +10 stat points for Defense. Now, I got the Secret Key yesterday, and turned it into the Rotom: Fan Forme. I trained it against 10 Pelippers, gained a level, and probably gained like, 20 EVs(I used the counter app in the Pokétch), and it only gained 3 stat points!

Now here's the question, does Rotom only gain the Defense stat in it's original forme, since the others have some increased stats? Or did I just already answer my question? >>

Thanks in advance for any help~

jigglyppuff8 April 20th, 2009 1:46 PM

EVs are different than the stat boosts you gain. EVs are factors that determine those stat boosts. You can have 255 EVs in any given stat and 510 EVs total. For every 4 EVs in a stat, that stat gains 1 more point at lv. 100 then it would without it. Therefore, the max amount of point you can gain in a stat is 63, since 255/4 = 63 R3. Since those extra 3 EVs will be going to waste, its better just to have an EV spread of 252 rather than 255. For example: My Jigglypuff has 0 EVs in HP and a stat of 360 at lv. 100. If I gave it 92 EVs in HP prior, its HP stat would now be 283 since 92/4 = 23. If I gave it 252, it would have 323, since 252/4 = 63.

Also, it is important to note that these points are gained gradually. For example: Let's say that normally Chansey gains 4-5 HP when leveling up. If I were to start at lv. 1, give it 252 in HP, and end at lv. 8, then it would be gaining around 5 HP for every level up, not really a noticeable difference. If I were to start training it at later levels then that's when you'll notice a difference. Let's use the same situation from before except that it's lv. 50 though, and it ended before lv. 51 with 252 in HP. Its initial stat boost would probably be something like 37 in HP, but afterwards, it would go back to the usual 5 in HP afterwards.

Does this help, or would you like something explained more?

Tyrantrum April 20th, 2009 5:06 PM

Whoops, meant to say 3 stat points...

Anyways, I realize that, kind of...
But that wasn't exactly the question. Unless that was answering, because if that was the answer, then could you explain more, because this is still very confusing.

Again, thanks a ton~

Jpp8 did a nice job covering the basics of EVs; however, your main question is about Rotom...? Regardless of its current form, Rotom will still count its EV points appropriately.

For example, if you EV trained an Attack Forme Deoxys in Attack and switch it to Defense Forme, its Attack stat will lower but it will still have those EV points earned in the Attack stat.

Maybe it's not an Italian code exactly, but if it's an English language AR being used on an Italian game it may not work, kind of like region locking.

Alright, I need help.
It's been a long time since i've made poffins for any reason at all..
But the main reason for this now is that I want to train a Milotic.
What would berries would you recommend using to raise Feebas' beauty?
I only ask 'cuz I forgot what flavors raise what.

jigglyppuff8 April 21st, 2009 11:06 AM

For high level Beauty Poffins, you'll want to use Pamtre Berries (Dry). Cornn is a good substitute if you don't have enough Pamtre berries.

Question for Japanese Platinum:

I need help using Mcdonald's Wi-Fi to get the Shaymin Event.

My Wi-fi Port died on me a while back, so I have no other choice but to go there to get it. I can't read Japanese, so I can't get onto McDonald's Wi-fi without help.

Is there an easy to print-out guide or something for this (Preferably with pictures to help guide me through it

I already have Mystery Gift, btw, as I obtained the Rotom and Darkrai events when I still had a usable Wi-fi Source

It depends on what kind of security is in place, if any. However, any game will work for setting up Wi-Fi regardless, as actually setting the connection is done with the system and not the game. So, if you managed to set up your Wi-Fi connection before using a game in your language, such as your Pokemon Pearl, then you can do so again, and it will still work with your Japanese Platinum.

Okay. Looks like I'll have to dust off my Pearl and take it with me next time.

Do the hatching effects of Magmar and Macargo stack? Like if you have multiples in the party, will an egg hatch even faster?

Not that I am aware off.
I think it only effects the egg once!

I need to clarify something about the new Platinum Formes

They CAN be used in battle against D/P, just not Wi-Fi.

The people of Smogon discovered this shortly after the game's Japanese release.

I myself have tried all the new formes at least once against my Brother's Diamond.

Basically, they look like the original formes to the person with Diamond or Pearl, but their Abilities, Stats, and Typing are that of their new formes.

Platinum Orb(Forgot its Stupid English name) cannot be Stolen, Tricked, or Knocked Off, similar to the Plates when on Arceus. Gamefreak most likely did this so that Origin Forme could be used in Local Wireless like the 6 other new formes.

The reason why I'm stating this is because I've seen many people that think that they are completely unusable against D/P

randomspot555 April 21st, 2009 1:56 PM

They're unusable on Wi-Fi. Their stats, abilities, etc... revert to the normal form.

In the Union Room, I've heard they're usable, though they'll use the regular sprite. But I can't confirm it and haven't tested it myself.

I know that already.

I'm not 100% sure on Union Room, I just do a direct PvP Battle by talking to the lady to the right of where you enter the Union Room.

And they still show thew New Forme Sprites on the copy of Platinum that's battling D/P. I'm not sure about what your Opponent sees when doing Platinum vs Platinum.

Mr. Pokemon April 21st, 2009 2:06 PM

They can't be used on Wi-Fi? That's pretty stupid. They should just behave the same as the do during a local wireless battle with DP.

Cura April 21st, 2009 3:11 PM

If you connect Platinum to Platinum, the new formes can be seen.
If you connect Platinum to Diamond/Pearl, the new formes can't be seem.

Although, just to let anyone know, that the formes will not appear because,
certain items are required to change their formes. Like Giratina for example.

Their stats will not change and their moves will not be removed.
So, you understand? I hope I helped clear this the best I could.

Question regarding transfers from FireRed and Emerald to Plat.

If I were to transfer a pokemon that evolves from link trades such as a Machoke or Kadabra from my FireRed or Emerald to Platinum will the pokemon evolve or will they stay as the same form? I am hoping they evolve as this is one of the only ways I can get them without having to go and find someone to trade with. Thanks in advance for the help.

Tinhead Bruce April 21st, 2009 4:32 PM

Sorry bud, they come as they are. It's not technically considered a trade, so they will not evolve when Pal Parked in.
