Searching for a Special Sweeper

So far I have 5 Pokemon (all EV trained) on my team. The only thing I need want is a Special Sweeper.

I was thinking of just Pal Parking my Alakazam, but he got screwed over when Ice and Thunder Punch changed to physical moves. None of the other moves Alakazam can learn interest me very much.

So if anyone could suggest a special sweeper, I'd be very grateful.

sims796 May 26th, 2007 11:15 AM

Seeing in how I specialize in grass-types, I suggest Roserade. But thats just my opinion. It would be eaiser to tell what you exatly need if you say who else is on your team.

flyingace24 May 26th, 2007 11:44 AM

So far, I have:
Shuckle
Zangoose
Metagross
Blissey
Skarmory

EDIT: I was actually thinking of changing either Metagross or Zangoose for Mamoswine. It will most likely be Zangoose, but I'm not sure yet.

Zyph May 26th, 2007 12:59 PM

Your team has a massive weakness against fire.

sims796 May 26th, 2007 1:09 PM

Sweet merciful heavens, he's right. Well, you could try Porygon-Z, or your Alakazam might work.

flyingace24 May 26th, 2007 3:45 PM

Fire is it? I only see Metagross and Skarmory. I have a bigger weakness to fighting than fire. But my Blissey can take almost any fire Pokemon.

plasmapistol May 26th, 2007 4:00 PM

Zangoose is super cool but really really sucks. Special sweeper I would say Aerodactyl. He has a great moveset, hes got real good attack, and hes fast. For Moves I would suggest a combination of Flying, Fire, Rock, and Dragon type moves cause Aerodactyl can learn most of those. Just my suggestion.

Iceman3k May 26th, 2007 4:10 PM

Aerodactyl can Physical Sweep, but he can't by any means Special Sweep.

Now, as far as I can tell, Infernape rapes your team, and I mean thoroughly. What you need is a good Water Sweeper, so give Starmie a go.

Starmie @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 172 HP / 88 SAtk / 248 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
- Psychic / Recover
That's a sweeper Starmie. If you intend on using Psychic instead of Recover, make the EV Spread 4 HP / 252 Spd / 252 SAtk and change the item to Life Orb or Choice Specs.

Star★Seeker May 26th, 2007 4:15 PM

How about Porygon-Z like:
Modest
EVs:Special Attack 255/Speed 255
Salac Berry
Adaptability
Tri Attack
Nasty Plot
Psy Beam/Ice Beam
Thunder Bolt

With Np it makes it's Special Attack higher, plus with Tri Attack, Adaptability and alredy high Sp. Attack, it whoops butt

flyingace24 May 26th, 2007 5:29 PM

I have already thought of using Starmie and Porygon Z. I already have a level 1 modest Porygon, so I already have a start. But he has download (crap ability). So we'll see.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I really appreciate it.

Samson May 26th, 2007 8:06 PM

download is AWESOME... =/ . it's so good for him as a starter too. i personally run my Porygon-Z at Choice Scarf and keep him as my starter. the chances are high that the other starter will have a +Speed nature, which in return, raises his speed only higher. Adaptability, with my Choice Scarf set, would only boost Hyper Beam higher, which is a little pointless when Hyper Beam gets STAB anyway.

but you definitely need to drop shuckle for something else.

flyingace24 May 26th, 2007 8:14 PM

I apologize. I didn't read the description right. Download IS awesome. I might use Porygon Z, but my friend is already using it and I don't want to copy (one of my other friends copied my Tyranitar, so maybe...).

And Shuckle is going to stay. I spent at least 150 hours on my FireRed training him to level 100 from an egg. Plus I like it. It (or she in my case) is one of my favorite Pokemon.

plasmapistol May 26th, 2007 8:35 PM

I like your style, you like to be original. Shuckle has great defense for water type and is annoying as hell. Use Shuckle as a wall even though its weak against alot of different types it has great Defense and Spc Defense. Teach it Baton Pass and some kind of stat raiser. Other people might boo this idea but I think you should try it.

Yeah, you should also teach it Toxic, like Pike Queen Lucy.

flyingace24 May 26th, 2007 8:50 PM

Thanks for your comment plasmapistol.

And my Shuckle has Toxic. I has:
Toxic
Protect
Rest
Sandstorm

I was thinking of replacing sandstorm with something else, but I don't know what.

Make it hold Chesto Berry for istant wake up, you can also teach it Swagger or Bide.

Samson May 26th, 2007 9:41 PM

well sandstorm is pretty cool on it because 1) damage on types other than rock, steel, and ground and 2)it raises its special defense.

but seriously, you really don't want shuckle. all it takes is a subpasser to a pokemon with a stat boosting attack to take it out in a couple hits, and then destroy the rest of your team.

Paranoia May 26th, 2007 10:03 PM

I read you wanted to maybe swap Mamoswine in, Well I agree, Mamo rocks, here is a good couple of movesets for an idea of what to choose:

Mamoswine @ Leftovers
Trait: (whatever, they don't help)
EVs: 200 ~ 252 Atk / 200 ~ 252 HP / 104 Spd (If the others are 200)
Moveset:
- Ice Shard (With STAB it goes to 60, and it Owns dragons!)
- Earthquake!
- Stone Edge
- Stealth Rock (I agree with you samson lol)

Just a random question Samson, Sandstorm raises def, does it raise his, because sandstorm could help him survive some hits, as well as whittle peoples HP

Mamoswine @ Choice Scarf
Trait: (whatever, they don't help imo)
EVs: 200 ~ 252 Atk / 104 HP (If you want, idk) / 200 ~ 252 Spd
Moveset:
- Ice Shard
- Earthquake!
- Stone Edge
- Peck (Helps against Hera)

I really wish someone would hurry up with a D/P damage counter, I really want to check some things, *sigh*

Samson May 27th, 2007 12:05 AM

sandstorm raises ALL rock type pokemon's special defense stat by approximately 33%, not defense.

also, if you're going to have mamoswine @ choice scarf, you have gotta do better than that! i suggest go for as much power as you can: Avalanche/EQ/Stone Edge/Bite. i really don't know how much bite would come in handy, but Stealth Rock is still a good choice on mamoswine even w/ choice scarf. bring it in for stealth rock and switch the hell out. besides, heracross isn't a threat to Mamoswine. w/ choice scarf, it can outrun it and take it out with one Avalanche.

Nooo, the reason I still have the Ice move, Ice shard is to own dragons!, lol the main choice scarf is for the other 3 moves!

Toxic
Protect
Rest
Sandstorm

Hmm well you have no damage attacks except for Toxic and maybe Sandstorm. Ok here is a killer strategy I have come up with for your shuckle. Keep toxic, lose Sandstorm for Power Trick and lose Protect for Gyro Ball. Now when going up against something without levitate or is not a flying type send him out use toxic, then your opponent attacks. It shouldn't damage you too badly. Then use Power Trick, what this does is switch your enormous defense with your crappy attack power and vice-versa. After he attacks you after that if you take too much damage just use rest. Your opponent probably wont expect it and use a weaker attack on you. Once you wake up use Gyro Ball and wipe it out. With your new enormous Physical attack power thanks to Power Trick, and with Gyro Ball doing more damage the slower the user and shuckle having a VERY slow speed it is going to hurt alot. I hope this helps.

It would be very risky though. Since Shuckle DOES have slow speed, any physical attacker can attack him and kill him since he will have low defense and his already low HP. It can work for a Special Sweeper, however. But I don't know if I want to do that. Thanks for the idea though.
