Timid or Modest gengar better for competitive battling?

If timid, does anyone have a timid ghastly? (lol)

Energy Ball

If you want people to actually respond, give it like, at least 18 hours. Other than that, being a pain in the ass and spamming up the topic isn't helping anything.

Now Gengar...

Gengar (M) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 176 Atk / 140 Spd / 192 SAtk
Hasty Nature (+Spd, -Def)
- Shadow Ball
- Hypnosis
- Thunderbolt
- Focus Punch
Known to many as a "McGar", except I like to call it Klug (because it reminds me of Klug from Puyo Pop Fever)

Any time you sense Tyranitar coming in, launch a Focus Punch and send him straight to hell. Shadow Ball for STAB, and Thunderbolt for the hundreds of Water Types it can kill.

EDIT: silly me, forgot the EVs

wtf is Ghost Ball? Those EVs are fine, but I'd go for more of this approach.

Hypnosis
Sadow Ball
Sludge Bomb
Energy Ball

Hey Iceman3K, with your set here, would ice punch work instead of focus punch, Although I would swap the EVs around a bit, this is what I was thinking, thoughts if possible:

Gengar (M) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 200 Atk / 132 Spd / 176 SAtk
Hasty Nature (+Spd, -Def)
- Shadow Ball
- Hypnosis
- Thunderbolt
- Ice punch

I wanted to know if this set was any good, because I usually have my gengar open the battle for me, and if their is a garchomp, It could own him with his 2x weakness (Or is it 4x?), anyway I did some calculating, and my gengar's stats would be this at lvl 100 if I were to use this set:

HP: 230?
Attack: 216 (Max IVs)
Defense: 103
Sp. Atk: 335 (Max IVs)
Sp. Def: 150?
Speed: 300~ (Max IVs)

Which is decent imo, but yeah would it work?

Iceman3k May 27th, 2007 8:39 PM

You'd have a better shot at using HP Ice instead of Ice Punch.

Yeah, although I hate HP, kinda annoys me, too hard to figure out. (Or too hard to get the IVs right)

*SIGH* If only it could learn Ice Beam.

Ice Punch wouldn't work on TTar, though, not to mention that it's more of a pain to get on Gengar. Stick with Focus Punch. It also kills other Dark-types, among others.
