Empoleon can destroy Torterra with an Ice Beam (4x Weakness)

However Torterra can deal with Empoleon with a STABed Earthquake

As far as your third question, Empoleon is stronger as far as special attacks go, and Torterra has the upper hand on the Physical side, but they can both KO each other with relative ease...

Conman June 3rd, 2007 3:11 AM

Empoleon and Torterra are pretty even just like Diablo said. Both are manily defensive with Empoleon's high SDef and Torterra's high Def. Also Empoleon has pretty good SAtk and the same goes for Torterra's Atk. Neither are better than each other IMO. Personally I went with Empoleon because I always love the water starters over the fire and grass ones. Choosing one of them mainly has to do with what you want more, SDef or Def.

I picked Empoleon because of it being a water starter. But I love using Icebeam on Torterra and KOing it

Hey now, stop beating up my Torterra! Besides, maybe a Torterra with Amnesia can stand up to Ice Beam, while I don't think Empoleon has any moves that covers his weakness. But then again, I don't really feel like breeding for Amnesia anyway.

Empoleon is faster than Torterra.

empoleon for the win.

sims796 June 3rd, 2007 11:53 AM

It's not that much faster (by 4, I believe). And a Choice Band Torterra will anialate Empoleon.
(excuse my spelling-can't find my dictionary)

Empoleon to me is an easy win for ur rival in the game, one ice beam or blizzard, gone. =]

Water_Cooler_87 June 4th, 2007 11:13 AM

Empolean really isn't weak against anyother types but it doesn't have a wide move pool like Torterra has. In a battle Empolean would win.

sims796 June 4th, 2007 2:15 PM

Oh come on, now. A well EV trained Torterra can survive an Ice Beam. And with a decent spent attack, one Earthquake should take Empoleon out.

I'll keep on defending my Torterra, not just cause I like it, but I always felt that each starter should always be able to beat their weaknesses. Doesn't seem like it now though, since Torterra won't fall so eaisily to Infernape.

Ground, Electric, and Fighting ftl.

It does have alot of resistances but those aren't the best ones to be weak against.

I'll do a comparison between the two.

Base Stats

Empoleon
Hp - 84
Atk - 86
Def - 88
Sp. Atk - 111
Sp. Def - 101
Spd - 60

Torterra
Hp - 95
Atk - 109
Def - 105
Sp.Atk - 75
Sp. Def - 85
Spd - 56

Empoleon wins in Sp. Atk, Sp. Def, and Speed.
Torterra wins in HP, Atk, and Def.

The speed win of 4 is negligible. Neither are going to be extremely fast on their own.

Empoleon looks like a bulky water at first glance, but it doesn't have a good defensive stat, has bad weaknesses for a defensive pokemon, and doesn't really have the movepool to pull it off. So, its best option is a special sweeper with its good Sp. Atk stat. However, its speed sucks and using agility makes it vulnerable to incoming Earthquakes, Thunderbolts, and Close Combats from much faster pokemon.

Torterra on the otherhand, can be a good solid wall. Its movepool grants it many supporting and stat raising moves. (Ex. Leech Seed, Curse, Synthesis, Amnesia, Growth, etc.) Its weaknesses are easier to handle; Earthquake for fire types, Rock Slide / Stone Edge for flying, ice, and rock types. With only two moves it covers its weaknesses. It may need some EV's in Sp.Def to withstand those Ice attacks.

Infernape> Torterra > Empoleon

sims796 June 4th, 2007 4:42 PM

Wonderful job there in that comparison. I don't hate Empoleon, it's just that he's been oddly hyped up more than it should have.

CloneD_Darkrai June 5th, 2007 8:27 AM

Wherever I go, tortera and infernape are reated as starter gods.

Empoleon gets no recognition.

PS. I'm saying that tortera is better in the game. But it could lose to an empoleon. Maybe...

sims796 June 5th, 2007 11:05 AM

Empoleon isn't bad, it just doesn't have the moves to take advantage of what it does best.

Saryka June 5th, 2007 11:10 AM

I like Empoleon's typing (Water/Steel), but then again, Grass/Ground sounds amazing, even if it is 4x weak to ice.

I prefer Torterra to Empoleon because Torterra has a fantastic movepool that lets it do what it does best: be a solid tank. Plus, it learns Curse at a fairly early level, which is just awesome.

Hmm... Curseterra? xDD *is thinking aloud*
