Dragons.... Trying something a bit different

Yes I know dragons have a blah blah blah weakness to ice and most to rock. But i wanna see if i can try anyway.

Dragonite

Dragondance
Outrage
Thunderpunch/Ice punch
Earthquake

Gyarados

Taunt
Waterfall
Icefang
Dragondance

Milotic
Surf
Ice beam
rest/recover/hypnosis????
Sleeptalk/recover/ Hypnosis/Aqua ring

Garchomp
Dragon claw
earthquake
Crunch
Firefang???/Stone edge

Kingdra
Raindance/dragondance????
ice beam
Surf
Dragonpulse or something else????

I know all of these arent dragons So imma try to explain my choices here

I know i need some type of support and I know that i need something better than what i have now..... Its a work in progress and not exactly sure about EV spread(still new to this)

Main reasons for choosing each pokemon:

Milotic and eat the ice beams that could target the dragons.
kingdra being part water also helps to lessen the damage taken from ice like attacks on the other dragons
Garchomp is immune to electricity so with decent prediction I can switch into him to save milotic and kingdra gyarados just cleans house and dragonite is my favorate poke. But both are capable of sweeping(in need of a special sweeper maybe???)

*sigh* Bump................

krzy8 June 9th, 2007 1:30 PM

well ima rate this without mentioning the glaring weakness which u know of.

hmm for ur milotic i wuld suggest a recover, hypnosis theme, work better since its off a switch.

also i see a tad to many dragon dances, gives opponent a free attack, sure u could get to use it if they switch but i dont see the oopponnent needing to switch to much against this line up.

..i say a special sweeper wuld be a good thing in this team, instead of kindra if not kindra then gyra

I actually changed a few moves around. And came up with something new to test

Dragonite:
healbell
Thunderwave
dragonclaw
Roost

lapras
Curse
Waterfall
Rest
Avalanche

I already took your milotic suggestion in advance thanks

But yeah I would be in need of a special sweeper. Thinking of making that kingdra but i MIGHT use salamance in that slot. Not too sure

i dont like the lapras moveset, kinda useless. no rest and curse then itll be improved

Nightofshadow June 9th, 2007 3:15 PM

so what about confuse ray and ice shard in those places

Portujesus June 9th, 2007 3:24 PM

How 'bout adding Zard? And Grovyle? :D Even Tyranitar.
If you want to use one of those I will suggest movesets.:P

krzy8 June 9th, 2007 5:50 PM

sure confuse ray and ice shard are better. as for the guy suggesting charizrd...no, Tyranitar not such a bad idea u can use it with garchomp to up its evasion.

This set = fail.

Dragonite isn't a surviver, one ice beam will kill him, so you won't even be able to rest, thunderwave is pointless as you could hurt the person instead, go with this set:

Dragonite @ Item
Ability: Inner Focus
Nature: Jolly or Adamant
EVs: 252Atk / 252 Speed / 6 HP
Moveset:
- Earthquake
- Thunderpunch
- Dragon claw / Dragon rush
- Stone edge / Rock slide, for flinch hax

lapras
Curse
Waterfall
Rest
Avalanche

I prefer a special lapras, as her Sp. Def is higher, and nearly every special sweeper she goes against has quite low defence, my set would be this:

Lapras @
Ability: Water Absorb
Nature: Bold
EVs: 252 Sp Def / ~152 Sp atk / 106 HP
Moveset:
- Avalanche, because she will always go last
- Surf
- Perish song / Safe guard / Substitute, as she can get great subs of 106 HP
- Dragon Pulse, as a surprise!

Salamence is a brilliant special sweeper, if you need his moveset, just ask!

nice advice, cant believe i missed the dragonite moveset issue

Nightofshadow June 10th, 2007 3:03 AM

Ill take paranoia's advice. but now its between salamance or Ttar? Not sure which one would do better <_<

I was checking out salamence as a special sweeper, and I didn't like it lol, so yeah I would go for Ttar, as his ability, boosts Sp. Def and raises garchomps evasion, allowing him to sweep effectively.

At Paranoia: Actually, Dragonite will survive one hit from most unstabbed or unboosted ice beams. Yeah, it's not very good as a supporter, but it has great Dragon Dancing potential.

This is derived from a 3rd Gen set but it could work for 4th Gen... I hope.

Dragonite (M) @ Leftovers ** Draco
Trait: Inner Focus
EVs: 120 HP / 168 Atk / 56 Def / 104 Spd / 60 SAtk
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Stone Edge/Rock Slide/Earthquake
- Dragon Claw
- Thunderpunch

Between Salamence and Tyranitar, go with Tyranitar. Downlplay the ice weak as much as possible. I doubt even in D/P that the fearsome CBtar is less useful.

Tyranitar (M) @ Choice Band ** Godzilla
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 56 HP / 252 Atk / 200 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Focus Punch
- Crunch
- Stone Edge/Rock Slide

I'm not very knowledgeable of 4th Gen metagame but these should be very good on your team. Once Smogon comes back up, and hopefully a D/P equivalent of Netbattle arrives, I can adjust to it and give better ratings.

Also if you want a Heal Beller, use Lapras instead of Dragonite for that.
