System War

This is a conflict i started wit another kid today. He claims that PS2 is teh greatest system and can't be topped, and that Nintendo is going to go out of business thatnks to them, and has all sorts of things that re bad to say about nintendo. i brought up the same topic with another friend of mine, who knew the offending party, and informed me that that kid is usually a liar and a PS2 fanboy. This is a poll I'm starting to determine whether or not more people indeed prefer PS2 to Gamecube, or even Xbox. So please vote for your favorite system and be honest.

Flygon trainer May 12th, 2004 3:07 PM

Gamecube. truly, the only reason I still own my PS2 is to play Kingdom hearts, or jurassic park. I had an X-box at one point, but I gave it to my cousins. all I had on it is Halo. I didn't approve of it much. and, the PS2 and X-box have a lack of 2 player games, while I can look at my Gamecube games, and instantly find one that both me and my friend can play. not only that, I have found the Gamecube can take a lot more punishment then a PS2. imagine a house with 3 cats and a large dog. my PS2 is malfunctioning, but my Gamecube has gotten slammed a lot, but still works like i just recieved it. also, the gamecube is eaiser to carry, in the event that your friend doesn't have his or lent it to a friend.

dqle May 13th, 2004 6:06 AM

OK, here's why I like the Gamecube better.

Sony, the creators of the PS2, annihilated the competition between the long rivaling companies Nintendo and Sega. Because of Sony, Sega was forced to drop out of the gaming system industry. I ABSOLUTELY HATE SONY BECAUSE OF THIS!!!

The XBOX was a very good system. Decent selection of games, strongest of the current gaming systems. I was planning to get it, until I found myself in the Pokémon world again. Also, I respect Microsoft, but I HATE BILL GATES!!!

The Gamecube was the only choice there is that's valid for my purposes. It still is the cheapest system on the market and has a massive gaming collection I like. I've trusted Nintendo ever since the Nintendo came out! And they've never failed to satisfy my gaming needs!

Lanceiscool May 13th, 2004 6:15 AM

Let's put this in any multiplayer game terms:

GC: A veteran of the game, and very, very good at it.

PS2: A player with average skills, but a handicap. (i.e. 1 coin in a race to get 5.)

Xbox: An amateur who SO does not belong here.

I bought GC 'cause Mom is really strict about ratings....Xbox is beautiful, but I can count the number of games worth buying on one finger (Halo). There are some awesome games on the PS2, but it falls behind in everything else. I want Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 and 3 on GAMECUBE!!

Chairman Kaga May 13th, 2004 11:42 AM

PS2 and Xbox both have their share of good games, but I'm a sucker for classics like Mario and Zelda. The old nintendo franchises always bring quality, and that's why I feel safer with gamecube than any other system.

I know what it feels like to get picked on by PS2 fanboys...I just don't see how anyone could be so zealous about a certain system that they'd persecute other people for having a different one...people like that are losers, no other word for them.

Pokedragonfire May 13th, 2004 12:49 PM

PS2 has the best hardware, Gamecube has the best software, and Xbox isn't good, because:
1. It has a poor selection of games
2. Microsoft's strength is definetly NOT games
I own a PS2 and GC, I also have a GBA. I like sony's hardware (controllers, memory cards, etc) but I hate the new spyro game. I loved the first three spyro's, it was easy to control and quick loading, even though the graphics weren't 100%. The new spyro, totally sucks. It is very hard to control, and you HAVE to use the stick for full movement (I like to use the pad). The graphics are good, but it takes at least 5 full minutes to go in and out of levels. I just hate it, and then there's the $50 I spent on it. I liked the other ones, they were only $40 (still expensive) but a much better deal. Game Cube is expensive though, $50 a game (a GOOD game). Pokemon Colloseum was $50, and my only other game, SSBM, was $30. Game Cube also copied the idea of memory cards from sony so it proves the better hardware part. In a Game Cube, you can't remove the controllers while its on and sometimes if the stick is not straight when you start it up, it goes in reverse. I like Game Cube a little better, but I would vote PS2 if it weren't for the games.

ASG May 13th, 2004 1:01 PM

Well i'll tell you now what tops all systems! The computer it has the best games, upgrades, online play, chats, imformation, cheays, and more nothing is better than the computer.*smirks*

What do you mena "copied the memory card idea"? N64 had memory cards before ps even existed, even though they weren't really necessary back then for the most part.

Pokedragonfire May 13th, 2004 3:40 PM

Most games had the save file right on the catridge, so if you had a little sister -_- none of your files could get over written. Think about Pokemon Stadium, and SSB, those are just 2 examples. Sony used it in all games, which was way smarter.

Pogiforce-14 May 13th, 2004 3:43 PM

That doesn't mean nintendo copied, and that doesn't mean Sony was necessarily smarter. it's easier to lose a mermoy card than it is to lose a game cartridge.

dqle May 14th, 2004 5:38 AM

Very true.

The thing I hate about systems that rely on memory cards, though are that the game disks will fail much faster than cartridges will. Game disks get damaged so much easier than cartridges ever will, and so will the lens that reads the disks. Oh well. Nintendo did it, so I'll support them. (If only the Gamecube could read CDs or DVDs...)

Oh, and memory cards are more likely to lose save data than cartridges. They're not built as rugged as a N64 pak.

All the stores all sell PS2 and X-box disc and even some sell pirated coppies. This is very popular in my country. Disk duplication is not a good thing, it's against copyright laws. And the popularity of a system does not determine if it's better.

awkwardsilencer May 14th, 2004 11:13 AM

gc and xbox dont have enough good games yet. playstation has more good games, and final fantasy. but nintendo has zelda and pokemon and metroid. but all the other games that arent big franchises, playstation has more better ones. but i think in the future nintendo will find a way to blow us away with better rpgs

Pogiforce-14 May 14th, 2004 11:40 AM

gamecube actually has a great many good games out. From personal experience, I know that SSBM, Mario Kart Double Dash, Zelda Windwaker, Metroid Prime, POkemon Colloseum, Beyblade utlimate tournament battle, mario sunshine, luigi's mansion, Megaman Network Transmission, Sonic Heroes and Animal Crossing are all very good games. And those are just what I can rememebr from off the top of my head. PLus E3 says they have plans for a "mature" zelda, Digimon Rumble Arena 2, Fire emblem for GCN, Star Fox Adventures 2, and other good games being made. I'm not denying that PS2 probably has more descent games than GCN, as it's been in the market a lot longer. I'm just saying that GCn has a lot more good games than you give it credit for. I can't argue for xbox, since I don't own one.

ps: I'm sure by now you know which one I voted for.

awkwardsilencer May 14th, 2004 3:03 PM

oh yes, i know it has many good games. but i dont think the ps2 and gamecube franchises will ever die, and well within the next year we will have many more reasons to have a gamecube, and then my bro can stop telling me i wasted my money. lol

I have all consoles and I like them all! :)

fudge01 May 15th, 2004 4:13 AM

i gotta fix some things up here i gotta
ok first of all gc can play cds and dvds you just gotta get a thing that sits under your gc like the gba thing
and nintendo did have memor cards first and memory cards get over wrighted all the time pull it out at the wrong time deleted too much dust in it deleted....
who said you cant copy gc games huh huh who -_- open your eyes 0_0
ok GAMECUBE 0wnz all consoles gba well 0wnz too but its not really a console :P ps2 is fairly good because of its games like kingdom hearts and final fantasy but gc as ff too XBOX!!!!!! hpmh what the heck is that doing in here someone has gotta dump that console

kill.harp May 15th, 2004 5:04 AM

I like PS2 more than GC and X-box, but only because of the games. I also don't really like the controls for Gamecube. I'd rather get arthritis or something. Personally, i think they should have kept the N64 controller or at least something closer to that. But yea. Gamecube has its share of good games, but can't compare to PS2's selection. Plus, PS2 get's most of the top-sellers like GTA and FF series, as well as it get's most first, then they're remade for GC. MEH, in conclusion.

edit: Plus i hate nintendo for losing Rare to x-box. Perfect Dark ownd me.

Lanceiscool May 17th, 2004 6:13 AM

I've never seen the add-on for GC DVDs.... there was a DVD playing GC released in Japan, but it never came to the US...

Belt May 17th, 2004 8:02 AM

Right now ps2 is the best system by all standars with it's games and better online play then the other two ps2 is on top right now but that may change soon.

Arcanine May 17th, 2004 9:15 AM

Game Cube is the best. So what if it can't play DVDs, I never use my PS2 for a DVD player (I use my 500 dollar DVD player since the PS2's DVD player is not all that good). There is better games on the GC, yes there is more games on the PS2 but the games on the GC is better (like SSBM, Star Fox, Star Wars RS3 and a lot of other games too).
I have a GC and a PS2 but you will never find me owning an X-Box (not after what Bill Gates said about the Game Cube). I love my PS2 (FF games and other games) but I like Nintendo the best and I like the GC the best.

Pogiforce-14 May 17th, 2004 11:06 AM

I put X-box as a possible choice because the annoying kid at school that had inspired me to create this thread swore that even X-box had more popularity and that it was a better system. of course, it don't matter how much I disprove him, he still thinks he's right. he swears he has created a poll himself with hundreads of votes with PS2 owning 2/3 of them. i'd bet my gameboy he's lying but I can't prove it. So the only way to really show him up now is to get more votes than he "claims" his has. In other words, I'm encouraging people who are reading this, if you haven';t voted yet, please do. The pride of my local nintendo players is at stake. :D

fudge01 May 17th, 2004 10:54 PM

OK GAMECUBE ownz all there is nothing else to be said GAMECUBE OWNZ repeat it they have the best games the best controller (ahhhhhhhh comfortable controller) there is this person that says n64 has better graphics than gamecube -_-' he thinks that on starfox his tail is all fluffy but on gamecube its just a big block -_-' he dosent know what he is talking about and and and and X-BOX more like ____-box sorry for that and what did bill gates say about gamecube?? well anyway i didnt know he should be saying this MY x-box creation is the crappest creation in the whole world i shouldnt of created it because its a load of CRAP! anyway GAMECUBE OWNZ!!! i love my ps2 aswell they are way better than x-box aswell i love kingdom hearts :P AND final fantasy

Intuition May 18th, 2004 6:54 AM

XboX is good too! but I like the GC too!! :D

Kairi May 18th, 2004 11:13 AM

A few notes, not saying any are my favorite…

PS2 has the poorest, slowest hardware. Truth. Its DVDs I believe have more capacitiy than GCN mini-DVDs, but it's slower than the Xbox I'm sure.

Secondly, the idea of external memory is not something Sony or Nintendo came up with. “Memory Cards” were around long before, in the form of computers. It’s like saying you stole the idea of bread for a sandwich, it’s just the way it works.

Dawson May 22nd, 2004 4:01 AM

PS2 has 3 popular game franchises, GTA, Gran Turismo and Final Fantasy. Other than those there is nothing on PS2 that you can't find on Gamecube but on Gamecube you got Mario, Mario Kart, SSBM, Star Fox, Pokemon, Metroid, Zelda and more. So even though PS2 has more games Gamecube actually has the best games.
Xbox? you gotta be kidding. Only good thing about Xbox is that it slows down burglars when they are robbing your house.

Pogiforce-14 May 24th, 2004 5:38 PM

Even game informer agrees that Xbox is quite lacking. And when it comes to yugioh games, they agree that Gameboy is where it's at. That new xbox game of yugioh is garbage, according to their review. And all the anticipated games from e3 are mostly gamecube with a few ps2. no one is hoping for anything from xbox except maybe halo 2.

Arcanine May 24th, 2004 5:57 PM

What I like better on the PS2 then the GC is the FF games. FFCC to me don't look all that good. I like FFX and FFX-2 since it don't look like a cartoon (had to say that XD).

Pogiforce-14 May 24th, 2004 6:01 PM

Actually, crystal chronicles is quite good. i ahve to say I much prefer it to FF X II. easier to play, same baddies,an easier to understand storyline, and teh crystalline graphics (no pun intended.) i do agree, however, that FF has done a lot more with Playstation than it had with Nintendo. I have played some of the older games, and they are quite good as well.

edit: Geuss what? When I told the guys who challenged me to start this pole that Gamecube has over 70%, he said "That's because they like playing little kiddie games." Then I said "A lot of those people are grown ups." He said " they live with their mother's, that's why they play little kiddie games." THe nerve of that guy! who is he to talk, that frickin' PS2 fanboy! I can understand him liking ps2, but to dis gamecube and those who like it is just wrong! he's even saying Xbox is gonna trash gamecube! Gamecube voters, if you'll send some not so kind words in his direction, then I would be happy to convey them. :)

John Denver May 26th, 2004 3:33 PM

Thank you fudge1...for being a big fanboy and giving gamers a bad name...

I like all three systems, I think all three systems have some great games on them...first lets look at this technically...

PS2 has the the worst hardware on all the systems. It is the oldest, the slowest, and has the most sub-par graphics. PS2 has an ENORMOUS library. Last I heard it had 1100 games, but I know it has much more now. People do, however, need to realize that about 900 of those games are games they've NEVER heard of and are games that no person would EVER buy. (Sky diving sims, cooking games, original TETRIS!?!?) They have some great titles like Final Fantasy and Kingdom hearts. But they lack in multiplayer and they have almost no nostalgic games at ALL! Very closely my second fav. system.

X-Box has the best hardware of the three systems. It is the fastest (technically) and has the best graphics (technically). It has the smallest gaming library, and 99% of the games on it are simply filler games they put there to compliment each genre. It does, however, have a few high quality games. Like Halo and Ninja gaiden and Splinter Cell. My least fav. system.

Gamcube is in the middle. It is extremely fast and extremely good graphics. Although it's specs aren't quite as good as the X-box's, the graphics and speed seem to be the same by the naked eye (compare the saving and loading times to Halo and Metroid Prime). The gamecube has the second biggest library, but some of those games are most obviously kiddy kiddy kiddy games. But gamecube does have the highest amount of high quality games.

Yep...gamecube is my favorite, but they could be so much better!

Tell him that not a single PS2 game made it to the top 5 in E3 2004...but 3 Nintendo games made it...

I believe they were Zelda, Resident Evil 4, and Metroid Prime...

oh drool, oh drool

Kairi May 26th, 2004 4:23 PM

I think Square Enix can do the most amazing graphical work, even on the PS2. Other than that I’d agree, the PS2 has bad loading times and poor graphics compared to the rest. The PS2 is also pretty barbaric only having two controller ports in a four-player gaming world. Then again they do have DDR…

I agree with Ninja Gaiden on the Xbox. High production values, gorgeous graphics, and it’s just fun! The Xbox needs more games like these. I think Team Ninja is a good developer, I like the DOA series as well.

GCN has the most titles that appeal to me, but I realize I’m not the “cool” gamer of today who lives on FPS’s.

jokestr2004 May 30th, 2004 4:32 PM

Meh, I'm not afraid to admit it... I'm a Nintendo / GCN Fanboy, though I can give some compliments AT LEAST PS2...

Gamecube - My favorite (duhh). Hmm lets see,
PROS
-most original games
-avoids most low-class American 3rd part devolopers.
-Most add-ons and connectivity.
-most compact discs
-easily most portable...
-most exclusive titles...

CONS
-less memory stored on cards
-less memory on disks..
-current lowest sales... i think.. not sure..

PS2: Most 3rd party support, correct? ...All the 3rd part support they get are the crappy American developers that can't get their hands off of boring repetitive sports games, kill em all realistic games (ie GTA), and too many arcade style racing games (although GT3 is pretty cool..) Lets look at the pros and cons
PROS
-lotta FF games..
-nice, comfy, controller..
-great memory cards
(i dont have one, so i dont know THAT much about it..)

CONS:
-too many american developers incorperated with it
-slowest hardware
-controller has too many buttons
-produced WAY too many fanboys...
-DVD player... it takes up too much space, they could have replaced it with more memory or upped the graphics or something.

XBOX: Oh god... I feel queezy even talking about this piece of junk. Number One Reason: A friend of mine (Genesissonic) has a friend that can download ROMS onto his XBox from the NET and play it for ENJOYMENT! Last I checked ROMs were for experimental purposes. Pros and cons...
PROS:
-everyone seems to like Halo...
-nice.. fairly fast harddrive....

CONS:
-...as big as an 80's VCR...
-mostly piece of crap games..
-created by Bill Gates..
-ripping off of PS2...
-not many extra attachments..
-"The controller is fit for an Octopus" ~Nintendo Power
- more...

I could say some more intelligent things but my brain isnt working right as of the moment...

Simmons_2.0 July 17th, 2004 6:49 PM

Many reasons why Gamecube is better. First the controllers the Ps2 has way too many buttons , the Xbox has a controller made for an octopus or a giant but the Gamecube just right not to big and not to small. And now for the consoles. The , Xbox please it's so big you'd need a parking permit. And the Ps2 is about average sise but the Gamecube is small and compact. And that's what I think. Xbox go bye :dead: :dead: :dead:Ps2 :dead: :dead:
