Pokemon Orchid

.:Title:.
Pokemon Orchid

.:Hack of:.

.:Storyline:.
You are a young Trainer starting your journey in a peninsula called Tide Town. You get your first Pokemon and are off on your quest. Along the way, you find you face many rivals and challenges, the infamous Team Rocket being one of them. Can you stop this threat and become a full-fledged Pokemon Master? How many lives will you affect along the way? And what is this green forest Pokemon that's being pursued? Play and find out!

.:Features:.
New Region
New Storyline
Johto Starters
New Heros
New and Various Rivals
New Gym Leaders
My Little Green Time-Traveling Friend Catchable!
...And much, much more!

.:Glitches in Current release:.
No! Not my Hall of Fame!
When I say "fixed" it means for the next release, not the current one.
  • You can jump into the snowbanks under the trees in Chilly Canyon. *fixed*
  • Blossom gives you Rock Tomb instead of Bullet Seed. *fixed*
  • Some people's text is cut off. *fixed*
  • Major Glitch! Please read! Do not open the menu in Hailstone City. It will cause the game to freeze and you may lose data. Save when you enter to minimize your risk of losing data.
  • When using an Escape Rope in Whistlewind Woods, you end up in front of the Timber Town Mart instead of in front of the forest.
  • Tide Town's an Island instead of a peninsula. *fixed*
  • There's a Rocket in the middle of nowhere near the Pokemon Center in Tropican City. *fixed*
  • After you defeat the Rocket Admin in the Tropican Jungle Safari Zone, a man appears inside the building you used to enter it. He won't talk to you. *fixed*

First Post =P

Anyways, Looks Promising, The overworld of the main hero may annoy me after some time, but eh, that's just me ^.~

Is that the tileset you will stay with the entire time, or will u probably change it? (Just curious =P)

I know that minor tileset changes will be necessary somewhere down the line but I'm trying to stay closer to Firered's tiles and palletes for now. However, I did take the liberty of changing the Pokemon Center and Mart's roof tiles. Taking a closer look at one of the screenshots on the first post will reveal that. :P
-----------
I think I'll give everyone a teaser of the third town. It's my favorite so far and took a little while to map. Better yet, the roof tile changes are more visible. I tried to give it a more D/P look while still keeping the GBA feel.

http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u175/Deokishisu2/HailstoneCity1.png

Yep, that's Hailstone City. Do ya like it?

Barker June 20th, 2007 10:20 AM

Looks good.

The though of a Jungle, instead of a Forest, is intriguing. I haven't seen that before.

But I don't get out much, so that just might be me. :cheeky:

SilentWing June 20th, 2007 10:24 AM

Oh wow, 3 towns done in an hour and a half... If you keep up at this pace, you'll be the fastest hacker ever! ;)

Seriously though, I like it a lot. Is it going to feature complex (zel-like) scripts? I hear that's the hardest thing in the world for some [most] people. :) Well, keep it up (maybe you'll update in another hour or two XD), and try to get those nice snow effects working for Hailstone. You know, like modified soot in Ruby, something like that, yeah. From the looks of things, it's also shaping out to be a grammatically correct hack. Nice.

PS: I like your PorygonHacks banner. Very stylish, I must say!

Kim Do-yeon June 20th, 2007 10:25 AM

From a fellow hacker to another I welcome you to the world of hacking so keep up the good work!

Actually Sakura, I've been working on this hack for a couple of weeks now. I was getting it ready to be presented here. I have the three snowflakes weather effect going on in Hailstone. I just didn't want it to snow all the time, it didn't look right to me. I'm sooo glad you noticed how I used correct grammar! I'm a grammar freak when it comes to something important!

Thank you!
-------------
I need to script some relatively important events that I'll need some help with so you'll probably be seeing me in the Script Requests thread. I actually only have to map Quadrant 1 of the 4 Quadrant Tropican Jungle Safari Zone and a forest and I have all the maps for the beta! My Safari Zone'll be about... Let's see... 4 TIMES the size of Hoenn's. After the major letdown I'll call the Great Marsh failure (Nintendo I'm talking to you!) we need a good Safari Zone!

SilentWing June 20th, 2007 10:50 AM

Hehe, sorry for jumping to conclusions. A steady work speed is usually better than a sporadic one, I always say.

UGH, Great Marsh.
YAY, Safari Zone!
I think that just about wraps it up. :D

Ivysaur June 20th, 2007 11:07 AM

This game is promising... You changed the tiles of the roof of the PC! O.o Good luck and finish it! :)

LCKay June 20th, 2007 11:44 AM

Looks like your off to a good start! Lets see where this one goes. Good Luck!

duncanrcook June 20th, 2007 12:10 PM

maps look good, but to many flowers. you should make a different hero too.

Captain Arcane June 20th, 2007 12:15 PM

As quick as this has arrived, this hack seems very promising. I glady support this hack.

Keep up the good work. ^_^

BlackDragonite June 20th, 2007 12:19 PM

OMG, why always Johto?
I like your Hack, but why does it always have to be Johto starters? (I´ve never liked G/S/C)

But; I like hailstone town^^

EkshtrimSama June 20th, 2007 12:31 PM

Looks cool,GL with this hack

Midnight Beat June 20th, 2007 12:46 PM

Looks really promising, good luck.

BTW I really like those trees.

Varimathas June 20th, 2007 3:10 PM

it looks cool man the hail town =)

Deokishisu June 20th, 2007 4:46 PM

Wow! I've been getting alot of support! ^^

Anyway, I just got home from work so I haven't gotten much done since I posted last. Hopefully, I'll have plenty of time tomorrow to map and script. Eventually I'll tie up the loose ends, beta test, and release a hopefully bug-free beta to you guys! Depending on alot of things, it could happen this week or maybe the end of the month. I'm really not sure, guessing release dates has never been my thing!

Thank you to everyone for your comments, especially about Hailstone City. You'll be able to like the whole thing when the beta comes out. Oh and Zach805, those are Firered's Safari Zone trees, I decided to make a tropical town, I needed tropical trees.

Well, I've gotta go. I'll map and attempt to script the two major events I plan for the first beta. I even have a little sprite surprise planned for y'all! See ya!

birthofdna June 20th, 2007 7:48 PM

Will there be music hacking involved?

zephern June 21st, 2007 12:28 AM

Nice tilesets! Looks like a good hack to be.

errero June 21st, 2007 5:06 AM

the hack is very good but if you change some tiles and the mini it will be best

Nope. I really don't know how to music hack to tell you the truth. I've heard that Fr/Lg has all the R/S songs in it so I'm hoping to run into them along the way.

Like I said before, minor tileset changes are always needed, but I want to stay close to Firered's tilesets for now. Mini? You mean the overworld? I might change them more, we'll see.

Well, I just got up so, back to hacking!

Varimathas June 21st, 2007 2:26 PM

it coming out nicely man good luck

Erimgard June 21st, 2007 4:14 PM

looks promising.
I like the diversity in climate (normal trees, rain forest trees, wintery tileset)

Lash June 21st, 2007 6:21 PM

Hey Deokishisu, I made a banner for the hack. Tell me if you like it or not in a PM or something.

http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p219/tuscontripfile123/Orchidfinal1.gif

Deokishisu June 22nd, 2007 12:56 PM

I've made some progress on the Team Rocket event I have planned but I haven't got a reply to the question I posted in the Script Help thread. I can't do anything more today 'cause I'm going somewhere, but I did map Quadrant 1 of the Tropican Safari! I plan to map a forest used for later in the beta and an extra route I should've put in in the first place! Well, last day of school was today so now I can focus more on the hack. Ciao!

P.S. I love the banner. I've already sent you a PM about it Hiro Scout.

ScriptEd of course!
-----
Anyway, I mapped the route coming up to Hailstone. I have some screenies of what I'd like to call Chilly Canyon:

http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u175/Deokishisu2/ROMHack%20stuff/ChillyCanyon3.png http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u175/Deokishisu2/ROMHack%20stuff/ChillyCanyon2.png http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u175/Deokishisu2/ROMHack%20stuff/ChillyCanyon1.png

It has some not-so-powerful-but-useful Ice types wild in there. I'd say it's pretty good!

Now about those events. I'm halfway through the first one in Tropican City. I haven't even mapped where the second one's gonna take place yet though. If I have time, I'll attempt to finish the first event, (Man! I hate scripting!) and then move on to map and try out the second event. After that, I beta test, patch up any glitches and we'll have a beta! Don't expect it too soon though. I have one more surprise I'd like to throw in before it goes public. Well, see ya!

♠εx June 25th, 2007 2:29 AM

Good job with the tiles, though on the third screenshot the top of the ice(behind the rocks) is off. Good job though.

Barker June 25th, 2007 5:26 AM

Wow. That Snowy route has me convinced. Keep up the great work. ;)

duckdavis June 25th, 2007 6:25 AM

Awesome hack, good luck with it!

errero June 25th, 2007 10:22 AM

the screenhots are very good and excuseme for say mini but i'm spanish

Deokishisu June 25th, 2007 11:57 AM

Now, I've finished the Rocket Event in Tropican (even though it freezes and I'm waiting for help in the Script Request thread) and the first Gym is complete as well as all of Hailstone City. All I have to do is map a forest and do another event there and I'm done. Then of course the beta-testing and everything I mentioned earlier. After that, beta-time!

I'll try to update again today with screenies of the forest. It depends on how much I get done.

AlexPriest June 25th, 2007 2:11 PM

It's looking good so far. I wish you the best of luck with this one.

AztecSunshine June 27th, 2007 1:43 PM

maps=great
snowy routes=wow

SilentWing July 1st, 2007 9:16 AM

How's your progress? Did you get those scripts worked out yet?

I wish you the best on this one! :)

GREAT NAME.gREAT STORY.gREAT ICE TILES.

Deokishisu July 1st, 2007 9:22 AM

Well, I've finally mapped Whistlewind Woods and started the event there. I have some screenies for your viewing pleasure too! Umm... I'll go through the game after I rest a bit when I finish the Whistlewind Woods event. After that I'll fix glitches and stuff and hopefully we'll have a beta. Sometime this week should be good. Well, here they are:
Timber Town:

I told you before, don't do it again. You even posted in threads you posted again before not long ago. You're getting a warning for this, do it again and it will be another warning.

EarthsVisitor July 1st, 2007 9:28 AM

One of the more promising hacks I've seen on these boards.
Your mapping is exceptional, and your story is well though-out.
As a fellow hacker, I wish you luck.

I was going to make you a little banner, but I found it to challenging to incorporate a Orchid into a banner.

Haha, maybe I'll try again another time.
:)

Deokishisu July 1st, 2007 5:37 PM

Thanks for all the comments! I'm very glad. EarthsVisitor, thanks so much for the complements. My motto for routes, forests and caves is, "If it looks man-made, start over." So I really do spend alot of time on my mapping. Thank you again.

Latieon, spamming is bad. Even worse when you demean someones hard work by just posting, "Oh, THIS ROX!!!!111!!!1!". It hurts the hackers when you couldn't think up a better comment and it hurts PokeCommunity staff that have to put up with it. I'm asking you as a fellow member, please don't do it again.

Anyway, I'm currently fixing up the Whistlewind Woods event. I got through with scripting it and it worked fine but I decided on a whole different storyline for it to follow and had to start over! Silly me right? I should be done with that by tomorrow because, to be honest, I'm exhausted! I think I'm gonna hit the sack after this. Thanks again!

EDIT: Oh man! I missed the banner part in your post EarthsVisitor! Thanks for attempting it! Honestly, I have no idea what the flower of an orchid looks like! They don't grow where I live so I've never seen a real one looks like! Again, thank you so much for spending your time trying to make it. I'm sure it would've been a hit! (How many exclamation points am I gonna use today?)

so when should we be expecting a beta? i know that it might take a long time, but you made everything so far in just a short time, didnt you?and it still looks really good. maybe we could have a beta by this friday? june 6th? (june 2nd today) anyway, everything is lookin pretty cool, especially the ice route and i like the idea of having an ice pokemon available early in the game! your awesome at hacking really fast.

Good Luck ~Alex~

Deokishisu July 3rd, 2007 4:08 PM

Well, right now I'm beta-testing. I've fixed quite a lot of minor glitches and grammatical errors already! A beta will probably be available by the end of the week. I just want to go through the beta atleast twice before releasing it. Thanks for all your support!

I hope I've answered your question rei173!

EarthsVisitor July 3rd, 2007 4:34 PM

I don't usaully offer my help, as I'm often busy with my own hack, but I will in your case.

If you ever need anything just ask.
I can do mapping, scripting, graphics, basically anything besides spriting.

:)

Screenshots look nice, but I couldn't help but notice how in the 1st (Magnet Train) screenshot, it's so empty. Might want to add some stuff. Also, the sign is peculiarly placed.

Nevertheless, keep up the good work.

Lash July 3rd, 2007 6:33 PM

Like anyone else, I can't wait to play the Beta1. You have been doing really great on the hack so far :D
And of course upon playing the Beta1, I will find many great Banner Ideas.

zel 2.0 July 4th, 2007 5:43 AM

The mapping looks fine, are you planning on changing tiles, or you will stick to FR's style? (With a good mapping there wouldn't be a need for tile changing)

Well, keep scripting then. Good luck with that! ^^

Deokishisu July 4th, 2007 6:06 AM

Thanks for all the comments guys.

zel, I plan to stick to Firered's style. Some tileset changes will be necessary but I want to stick as close to Firered's tileset as possible.

How so? Where do you think it should be? I'm open to suggestions. And thank you so much for offering to help me, if I need anything, I'll PM you about it.

I'm gonna finish my first runthrough of the game today and start another when I'm finished. I'm thinking about lowering the difficulty level though. By the time I finished the first gym, my Bayleef was at level 17! All because I had to train so hard to beat her! I haven't decided yet and I'll probably release the beta and ask for your opinions before doing anything that drastic. Well, I'm off!

birthofdna July 4th, 2007 11:52 AM

Is Tide Town called that because of the water tiles?

Yes, y'know tides. High tide and low tide. That's what I named it for.
-----
I've finished my first runthrough the beta.

EDIT: Devastating glitch fixed thanks to zel, he's the one who told me how to fix it. Anyway, I'm just gonna go through again one last time and make sure everything's all right before releasing the beta. Who knows? If everything's perfect, you could have it by tomorrow! Maybe... Well, see ya!

EarthsVisitor July 5th, 2007 3:54 PM

Well, I hope all goes well with the Beta.

If you don't mind me asking, how did you fix the glitch, because I might need it for future reference. (Seriously).

Anyways, keep up the good work.

zel told me that it's caused by the "Look Down" movement in Advance Map. Changing it to "No Movement" is the same as "Look Down" and fixes the glitch. Oh, and thanks for... y'know.
-----
Now, I have to announce something to everyone. I finished my second runthrough and found a fatal glitch I cannot fix. So, I quit...

Not! Actually, I have the beta ready. It's more an Alpha then a Beta because you can only really get an hour or two in it if you really train. Anyway, if anyone finds any glitches, grammatical errors, spelling errors, etc. Please post them with a screenie if possible. I just want to let everyone know I did not edit the following.

The Titlescreen
Prof. Oak's Intro Sprite
Male Hero's Intro and Backsprites
Female Hero
Anything past Timber Town

You want me to shutup now right? "Just give us the Alpha!" you say. Well, it's at the bottom of the post. I want feedback! Tell me if the difficulty level is too high. If everyone agrees (including me) I'll release a new patch with a lower difficulty level. Have fun!

$_$ July 5th, 2007 4:25 PM

Hey I love the new alpha.I'm still playing it.

EarthsVisitor July 5th, 2007 4:57 PM

Deo, my friend.
You need to fade screen, after defeating the rocket in front of the Tropican Safari thing.

Why?
Because, after you beat them once, if you don't fade the screen, or reload the map, she'll stay there and you can keep fighting her.

:)

She's supposed to move... Lemme see...

It worked when I tested it in my runthroughs but there was a scripting error when I looked at it. Please use this and patch it to a clean ROM to fix that problem. You can even use your saves if you rename it to the same thing as before and put it in the same folder!

It worked when I tested it in my runthroughs but there was a scripting error when I looked at it. Please use this and patch it to a clean ROM to fix that problem. You can even use your saves if you rename it to the same thing as before and put it in the same folder!

Oh, I got past her fine, she didn't move, but she did dissapear if you went into a building and came back, you obviously had the person ID correct.

I found 3 more glitches will I will post soon, very minor.

Ahem:
I just encountered a Major Glitch.
I went to Hailstone City, bought a Repel, used it, and after exiting my menu, the screen went black.
Now, I'm too lazy to restart.
:P

bleu_cheese July 5th, 2007 5:26 PM

I just started, and I think it's great! Just a few things I noticed, however, all very minor.

1. Tide Town looks like an island, you should add something to make it look like it's connected to the jungle route.
2. The above mentioned repeat battle, which you fixed.
3. After the old man teaches you how to catch pokemon, if you talk to him again, he'll say "Oh, you're the trainer I helped bef...."
It should be before.

Other than that, great hack, I can't wait for future updates.

EarthsVisitor July 5th, 2007 5:46 PM

1. After beating the Elite Dude, in front of the tree, if you go back to the Safari, there is a man in front of the door, but he won't talk to you.

2. What's that Rocket doing up there?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v129/UltimaDargon/Orchid.png

3. See that Rock underneath the Tree, right in front of me? I can jump over it like a ledge! wee!

I've tested that repel glitch in the mart, three places around Hailstone, and three places in Chilly Canyon and I didn't encounter that glitch at all. Bad ROM maybe? Has anyone else encountered this?

1. I'd have to expand the map for that, and I will later. It will be fixed for the next beta. I honestly thought no one would notice, good eye.
2.Like you said, fixed.
3. Needed to put an \l command before the word "before" 'cuz I ran outta space in the box. Fixed for next beta.

1. Oh! I promised myself I'd script that after my runthroughs but completely forgot! Fixed for next beta.
2. Didn't put him far enough away from the walkable spaces, fixed for next beta.
3. Ahh! I didn't see that one coming! I didn't even know that would happen! Fixed for next beta.

If there's enough little glitches, I'll post a bug-fix alpha, keep 'em coming, I appreciate it!

Has anyone finished it yet? Or have any comments about the difficulty level? Constructive critism is encouraged here!

Lash July 5th, 2007 6:25 PM

The Beta looks really great!
And nice job on all the amount of encounters in the Forest area before the battle with the chick who got her brother taken by the mirror xD
But I used an Escape Rope to get out of the place, and I edned up infront of the Timber Town Pokemart.

Umm... not sure how to fix that. Well, you ended up in Timber Town so that's good. Maybe later I'll delve deeper into that glitch. Thanks for the complement. When I beta tested, I thought Whistlewind Woods was evil! So long and twisty but, most forests are like that so, yeah. I'm glad you liked it Hiro Scout. Now that you have the beta, will you follow up on your banner promise? I could use a few more banners and credit will be given to you of course.

Barker July 5th, 2007 7:09 PM

Awesome alpha. I'm only training around a little in the Jungle route, since I haven't beaten the Rocket yet, but I'm already hooked on this. And I was most excited about the snow route. Looks like I have a lot to look forward to tonight. :)

Also, I'd be interested in making you another banner, if you want.

Sure, full credit to you of course! But, I'm more interested in having everyone enjoy the full alpha before they do anything else for me. Just hearing people are playing it makes me happy! I'm glad you're enjoying it so far.

I finished mapping the first route of the next beta. I have to do the trainer battles and an event there and I'll move onto the next place tomorrow if I feel up to it. I'm going to bed, see ya in the morning!

Barker July 5th, 2007 10:23 PM

I'll see if I can put anything together tonight. ;)

Now, I'm in Hailstone City, but I decided to take a short break because I hopped one of those rocks and got stuck, and lost a bunch of gained levels.:tired:

I love where this hack is going though.

----

3:11 Am Edit: Finally finished the beta, I think. That's the first time I've played a beta start to finish in one sitting. Took me 5 and a half hours to get here, at any rate. My team is lv. 16 Aipom, lv. 16 Totodile, lv. 16 Snorunt, lv. 17 Pidgey, lv. 16 Bellsprout, and lv. 11 Geodude. Anyway, here's my take on the whole thing. It's something of a synopsis/walkthrough.

Spoiler:
This hack was awesome. One of the best I've ever played, for sure. The story began to shape up almost immediately, with the rocket grunts taking over Tropican Town. However, the game started to get a little hard at this point, requiring enough training to take on a gym. Keep in mind that we're still not there yet. I loved the event though. Chilly Canyon fulfilled all of my expectations. Amazing, if not a tiny bit long. Maybe it only seemed long, because of the 3 repeating Pokemon. I'm addicted to those sliding Ice blocks. A glitch here made me lose my progress though.

Hailstone City was great too. Good weather choice effects, and I just love those tiles. However, for everyone talking about the meteor, it really was a little underwhelming. The girl skating all alone in the upper left was a little weird too. Seems like she'd have a friend or something. Once in Hailstone, I departed for Chilly Canyon to train for the Grass gym. The one in the Snow City. I love it, it threw me for a loop. However, here, Pokemon levels were a little high again. The trainer wasn't too bad, but the leader.. I lost the first time, probably because my highest level Pokemon was my lv. 13 Totodile. Doh. So after training, I came up with my all level 14 team, and my Pidgey and Snorunt finally won it for me, but not without a real fight. It took 4 games hours, but that's probably because I'm a slow trainer. It took me 60 hours to beat the Elite Four in Firered, for reference. Blossom's Pokemon were a tiny bit advanced for this point in the game, especially her Sunflora. Level 15 + Mega Drain + Synthesis = Tko for most of my party. Overall, I felt it was a fun challenge though. In the official games, a full team of lv. 14s would wipe the floor with the first gym. I guess high levels are to be expected though, especially with Ice types so close by. Good job here, but calm down with the levels.

After going back through Chilly Canyon, I found myself in Tropicana City again. From here, I headed east into Mount Demise. bleu_cheese has hit it right on the nail here. Wild Pokemon must have gotten into the Rare Candies again. By comparison, wild Pokemon after the first gym in Kanto never got past the lv 14 range until around the second gym. These ones are level 10ish, and the next town doesn't have a gym. The trainers weren't as lethal, but were still anything but easy. As bleu_cheese said, the hiker with the Mawile was unfair. It took me a second to find the exit. Outside, I ran from the kid running around and the hiker, and accidentally jumped off a ledge, so I don't what happened with them. Luckily, an old lady healed me. I ran from the rest of the trainers, in case they had lv. 70 Gyarados' or something. I fought another trainer right before Timber Town, this one sort of easy. Unreal. I healed up and talked to an old guy seemingly guarding some trees. He wouldn't let me through. I suppose that in the next beta, this will lead to the next town. I headed up north, and into Whistlewind Woods. (Love the name, by the way). I'd talked to someone who said it was full of Bug Pokemon, so I had prepared myself for wild level 15 Caterpies, and the first thing I encountered was a Caterpie- level 3. Dang. I avoided the trainers in here too, as much as I could, because I knew the end was near. At the end, guarding the entrance to the final trainer was a bug trainer, with a lv. 18 Butterfree and a lv. 18 Beedrill. The former I assume only knew status attacks, and pretty much stalled me out for 15 minutes as I struggled to stay awake/ not be fully paralyzed/ not hurt myself in my confusion. After, I saved (which I started to do a lot), and fought the final girl's Natu, but not by choice. Seems like she'd ask me if I wanted to appease the god or whatever with a battle. Lv. 20 Natu + Night Shade = Tko for most of my party, again. Luckily, I had Snorunt again though. Finally, I landed in Timber Town again, and I can only assume that the beta had ended.

Edit again: The Sign in front of the Pokemart says I've finished. Haha. I want a longer, slightly easier (:embarrass) beta this instant. :P

I did find some mistakes, thought I'd make a note of them just in case. Most of them are textual errors.

Spoiler:
The Gym Leader Blossom says, "Is your first Gym challenge Trainer?", shouldn't it be "Is this your first Gym challenge, Trainer?"?

Bug Catcher Carl's text cuts off a little before his battle. Is there a reason his Pokemon isn't a bug?

On the same level of the cave, the lady's text cuts off too.

The Next Cooltrainer's text isn't grammatically right either. All of the previous three happen on the same level in the cave.

Wow, what a long post. Anyway, overall, this was an awesome beta for a very promising hack. However, the fun was severely hampered by highly uneven, and sometimes unfair difficulty.

About that banner, I'll get to work on it now, and probably edit it in. I've edited this one countless times, it'll get the job done.

Saken July 5th, 2007 10:25 PM

Greetings, i just finished the beta, i have to say i am impressed. Your rocket event was good, and i like the originality of the game. Although, there are some complaints.
For someone that chooses Tododile as a starter, the first gym is way too hard. Well my lvl 23 Croconaw finally beat it, but i couldve caught a Pidgey and that would've helped.
There are few glitches, which i read have been fixed, so i wont report them (also cause they have been reported before ^^)
Keep it up, looks promising.

Giovanni

bleu_cheese July 5th, 2007 11:47 PM

Just beat the first Gym, and I am on my way to the next town. I had less trouble than Barker, with Lv. 15 Quilava, Bellsprout, Pidgey, and Snorunt. I am a very thorough player, so I found a few glitches.

1. You cant open up the Pokemon menu without getting a black screen afterwards in Hailstone City. Buildings are okay.
2. I also had a black screen when I picked up the Pokeball in Hailstone City. It told me that I had found 8.
3. All TM's you get are TM 39. At the moment I have 2
4. You can walk into the windows in the first Gym.

All of these are very minor, and I didn't have any troubles getting past them. Mount Demise is aptly named. A Lv. 17 Mawile? Ouch. I can't wait to continue playing, as this hack keeps getting better and better.

Mew88 July 6th, 2007 3:01 AM

Hey im playing the beta and i dont know where to find the national dex!! My cyndiquil wont evolve:(

Edit:

Its all good i found it:D I forgot to say that i loved the hack, apart from not being able to open the pause menu in the ice town i found nothing else majorly wrong with it! Ive finished the beta now and im looking forward to the next one:D

Evil 4 Life July 6th, 2007 4:41 AM

this was a really interesting beta and fun, though i have a few suggestions which i'll write below:

1. When u fight the 1st rockets lower their pokemons lvls a bits as their a little too high
2. Upgrade the lvls of the pokemon in hte whistlewinds sicne most pokemon ihte game can be found like in 6-12 while these are lvl 2-3
3. plz see if anything can be done about the freezing in hail city.
AND great job and its obvious u put a lot of effort in this:)

Deokishisu July 6th, 2007 9:40 AM

I've read everyone's posts and I'm really glad everyone liked it. I'd have to ask you all not to use the jump over the snow banks under trees glitch in Chilly Canyon to get through it quicker though, that ruins it.

Thank you Barker for giving me such an indepth summary of your impression of the game. Take your time with the banner. I've fixed the text glitches in Mt. Demise as well.

I have absolutely no idea what's going on with the Hailstone pause menu glitch. I might actually put a warning script up that tells you when you enter the town not to do that in the next beta. I'll fiddle around and see if it can be fixed but until then I'll just advise everyone not to open the menu in Hailstone City.

Blossom's supposed to give you Bullet Seed, not Rock Tomb. Fixed for the next beta.

Hailstone's walkthrough Gym windows glitch is fixed for next beta.

I like the fact that in Whistlewind Woods the bug's levels are low. I didn't want you to find a level 15 Caterpie that should've evolved ages ago. That would've been just freaky. I might raise it up to maybe 8 but I really haven't decided. Plus, you needed a break after how hard some of the beta was.

Speaking of the difficulty level, I see that everyone agrees it's way too hard. I'll see what I can do about it. And about the hiker with Mawile, he moves counterclockwise, it's way easy to avoid him if you know he's there. And the Rocket Admin in Tropican, I know he's kinda high leveled for the beginning of the game but no other Rocket Admin in the history of Pokemon has ever been that weak. I'm a little reluctant to lower his level.

Treecko Tamer July 6th, 2007 10:15 AM

I actually thought the Rocket Admin in Tropican was pretty tough. It took three tries for me to beat him.

I did encounter this little problem twice when playing the alpha: When in Hailstone City, after chacking on your Pokemon, the game goes into the black screen but never comes out.

Evil 4 Life July 6th, 2007 12:39 PM

wow did any1 else encounter a shiny swinub? i found 1 while going to hailstone city and immidiatly captured it, yahooo:) i really lyk this game because of its challenge though the freeezing lost me some lvls, but its all gud great job deo!

Mew88 July 6th, 2007 3:32 PM

If you pick cyndaquil as your starter this game is pretty easy(well i found it to be anyway) as soon as it learns ember its pretty simple, but for other starters i guess it could be pretty dificult so if you dont wanna change something, maybe make a pretty weak fire pokemon catchable near the beggining of the game, i think that would make it more easy, but i say leave it because i love challenges:D And about the low level bug pokemon, you can put like venonat and spinarak and pineco at higher levels, still bug pokemon and they shouldnt of evolved by then:D

Barker July 6th, 2007 9:48 PM

Here are a couple banners I came up with today. I may do a few more tonight, because there's not much else to do. I might even replay the beta, though I might choose Cyndaquil this time. :P Great game, man.

Well, I've mapped a major area in the beta that's both annoying and important. It's too soon to say exactly what it is or what goes on there, let's just say Team Rocket's got there greedy hands in something there. You'll love this place once I grab some screenies, guaranteed. Well, I'm really not supposed to be on the computer right now so... I've gotta go. Thanks again for the banners! Bye!

SerenadeDS July 7th, 2007 6:03 PM

This is a nice hack! Looks like you not going to stop this one anytime soon! White is an intersting color for the MainChar :classic:

A pointer though.. In the Beta, When you enter a house or go inside something, The door doesn't open, you just walk though. When you use your MapEditor, Make sure you use a block one the door... If you dont understand...

EXAMPLE - When useing Advance Map, use a 1[RED] on the door, Dont leave it C[Purple].. I hopeee you understand. Not a big problem, But it can be fixed easily.

Goodd Hack! Hope this one goes far!

PirateBounty July 7th, 2007 6:11 PM

This hack looks great hope you stay to finish it

Barker July 7th, 2007 11:56 PM

No problem for the banners. I'm interesting with this major area though.. Annoying? Guess I'd better train up my team a little.

Next week refers to Monday, I hope. :nervous:

I replayed the beta with Cyndaquil, and it was a lot easier, almost too easy, so I guess the difficulty depends on the starter.

Yo! Your welcome! Life Stuff eeh? I know what you mean. Well, I will be waiting for updates!! Good Luck and have fun with your Wii. XD

Deokishisu July 16th, 2007 12:40 PM

As promised, I have a small update. Unfortunately, the two routes before the area shown in the screenshots now crash when I enter them. So, I have to map and script them... again at another map.

Anyway, that area I had talked about before is called Arid Desert, and is right before Oasis City. (Which I haven't mapped yet.) Team Rocket has some dirty work going on here and I bet you can guess where judging by the screenshots. Well, here they are, hope you like them!

Arid Desert:
http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u175/Deokishisu2/ROMHack%20stuff/AridDesert1.png http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u175/Deokishisu2/ROMHack%20stuff/AridDesert2.png http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u175/Deokishisu2/ROMHack%20stuff/AridDesert3.png

I might update again later with some screenies on the next event inside that building. Needless to say, you're gonna get a choice between two, semi-important items there. Well, feast on these new screenies until I can whip up that building's maps. As always, thanks for the comments. See ya!

Saurav July 16th, 2007 1:00 PM

oooOOOo Arid Desert
so is Team Rocket happens to be there or did they have a base there too?

nice screenis :)

Barker July 16th, 2007 2:02 PM

Sweet. One thing I love about this hack is that it's not all caves and towns with trees. It has the tropical theme, then the Ice theme, and now the Desert theme. This sets it apart from most other hacks, and actually raises the bar, in my opinion, even if it's only a slight change of scenery. Great job.

Now, that building is highly interesting too. I wonder what's inside..

I love This hack so far. Right now, im in Hailstone trying to level up any Ice pokes to battle the Gym Leader. It's great so far!

Momoko July 18th, 2007 4:06 PM

hello i just finished the alpha ( i think)
but there were some wierd things i noticed.

My cyndaquil wouldnt evolve...even if i didnt press B it would say "What? Cyndaquil is evolving.....then after like 1 second it said "....?" whats up with that?

And also, after i battled this girl with a natu she let me out of the forest,is it the end of the game?

bleu_cheese July 18th, 2007 5:03 PM

^ I think you forgot to get the National Dex from the old man in Tropican City. Too late now, I guess

awesome this is kl i love ur hacks

Swampert 22 July 19th, 2007 11:32 AM

This hack looks awesome the variety of different locations and sub-climates will really make this hack interesting to play. A lot different to those hacks just set in a temperate region with those bog standard trees everywhere XD

bleu_cheese is right, you forgot to get the National Dex from the old man in front of the magnet train station in Tropican City. He should still be there. Head back to Tropican and grab the National Dex to let your Cyndaquil evolve.

When you finish the event with Alanna in Whistlewind Woods the beta is over.
----------
Well, I've mapped out the next city... in my mind. I'm drawing it up on paper to make sure I have everything I want where I want it. Nonetheless, this city's gonna be bigger than anything previously seen in Nintendo's Advance Generation games. Well, I'm gonna get to that. It'll probably take me two or so days to map it the way I want so... Expect Screenies then. As always, thanks for the comments! I'm really glad everybody likes all the climate changes!

bonaza July 20th, 2007 12:57 PM

This hack is ok, but I think u should do some pal editing that matches because some of the pals do not match. I think u just switched pals in advance map. If you chose Tododile as a starter, the first gym is hard you should change that. There are some glitches. Also a lot of your maps are plain you should fix that too.

[email protected] July 20th, 2007 2:05 PM

I really like this hack! The only problem I have with it is the events leading up to getting the pokedex. Seems too much like fr/lg. But good job!

As a matter-of-fact, for some of the tiles, I did just switch the pallettes in Advance Map. I would rather not pallette change or add too many new tiles as I have said many times before. Choosing Charmander in R/B/Y/Fr/Lg made the first Gym difficult as well, but I'm pretty sure Nintendo didn't get complaints. I've provided Flying and Ice Type Pokemon early in the game so people who chose Totodile would have an easier time with the first Gym. If you find any glitches not listed in the first post, please post them. I'd be happy to fix whatever's discovered if I can. Plain? How so? I hate places that look so busy, but really have nothing to back it up. I don't think my maps are plain and I haven't heard anyone else speak up about it... Please, don't hesitate to give an actual reason why you feel that way about your maps.

Don't worry, if you've played through the beta, you'll discover that this won't be much like Fr/Lg at all.

Anyway, I'm refining Oasis City on paper to make sure I have everything I want, where I want it. It's hard to make a city look big with such small maps so I have to place things in different places to give the illusion of a big city, like Goldenrod City and it's random houses that no one lives in.

Nonetheless, I've planned out some interesting events involving Team Rocket and have added a feature that will make you keep coming back to Oasis City for a long time. And you'll love that you can catch some semi-rare Pokemon there as well through a certain event.

Oasis City will have alot of variety and I guarantee you'll like at least one thing about it. I'm putting alot of effort into this one, more so than Hailstone. Well, tomorrow, I'll start the mapping process. I'm gonna hit the sack right now though, I'm so tired. Well, I should update tomorrow with some prelim screenies of Oasis City. But, here's the catch. Anything from a blade of grass to the placement of a building is subject to change in those screenies. It all depends on how I can make the city look and feel huge. Well, see ya!

I was just about to make that point. I'm assuming the gym in Oasis city, if there is one, will be water. Are you trying to go with opposites? Grass in a chilly city and whatnot? Looking forward to more updates.
