EV training

I always hear about EV training, I have never really understood it, but thats ok. My question is: if you don't EV train a pokemon does it make the pokemon weak and unable to win in battle against an EV trained pokemon? I don't really plan on starting to EV train my pokemon because I don't really have the time to. Just wondering if my pokemon are really weak compared to some of them out there.

...EV training can cause a stat increase of up to 63 points. Yes, it tends to make a difference.

peachesncream June 24th, 2007 3:59 PM

is that an increase in just one stat or in multiple stats?

You can get the 63-point increase in up to two stats or spread those increases to all six stats.

It depends on how you EV-train. In most cases, you would EV-train while focusing on two main stats that would raise by the 63 points mentioned above. For instance, a Physical Sweeper would usually want to have its attack and speed as high as it can be, so you would EV-train for those two stats.

Without planned EV-training, the EVs become spread around among the 6 stats randomly, depending on what you fight. Each stat would benefit from EVs, but you don't necessarily need to raise all 6 stats on Pokémon that fill certain roles, nor would any of the stats be risen by enough to justify such a spread.

Edit: And again, I type too much and get beat to the punch. XD

i guess i will just stick with my way of training pokemon, after all, its all i know. i never really battle with other ppl neways. i would though if i got battle revolution! that would be fun

You still will get EVs if you battle whatever, just that you won't know in what stats or how much. But really this is only for completitive play.

More about EVs.

i might want to be competitive in the future, first i need to get more of my pokemon up to level 100, on my old blue and silver versions I had a lot of level 100 pokemon, sadly, all those files were corrupted :-(

i have a question on EV training.
so i'm training my Alakazam's SP.ATTK (with Macho Brace and Pokerus) up by fighting Bidoof's left and right. After maxing it out with the SP.ATTK vitamin, i fight like 30 bidoofs (Alazam is around level 24) and when it levels up, it only says it gained +5 HP? shouldnt it be more?

it was to my understanding that i should be getting 4EV points each Bidoof with the conditions listed above. when i level up, shouldnt i at least have +30HP when i level up?

The stat raise from EVs is gradual, not all at once, so you won't get your whole 63 point value until lvl. 100.

i have another question, lets say you were trying to EV train your pokemon in one area. Then you would go out and battle only certain pokemon in order to train that pokemon (I think thats what you do)Do you have to continue battling these certain pokemon until your pokemon has reached level 100? or at some point does it not matter anymore? The only reason I am asking is, I train my pokemon by going through the elite 4 many times because you gain experience points pretty quickly. If I were to EV train my pokemon would I just have to go out into the wild grass and search for certain pokemon that give a lot of EV points in a certain area? sorry to be so clueless, I haven't heard of EV training until fairly recently.

Shiny Umbreon June 27th, 2007 2:50 PM

If you want the E4, you'd have to switch out so you avoid any Exp. for any unwanted Pokémon. The best is to train with wild Pokémon. For example, by the time I finished EV training my Weavile, it was in Lv43, and it obviously didn't have Exp. Share or anything. Just lots of wild Pokémon battles. If you're wondering how this could limit you to train up to Lv100, there's an option so the levels of your Pokémon are set to Lv 50 or 100 for the battle, so you don't really need to train them.

can't you EV train once your pokemon are on level 100 by giving them berries to reduce the EVs and then retraining them? does this apply to HP too? like can your pokemon have 300 HP and then reduce the HP by giving them berries and then increasing the HP by battling certain pokemon?
