legendaries in wifi battling

I don't really understand the whole thing about some people only battling people who don't use legendary pokemon. Is it just certain legendary pokemon that are considered really powerful? or all legendary pokemon? My team isn't all legendary, but I have a kyogre i trained to level 100 and it is one of my two level 100 pokemon. would a lot of people be unwilling to let me use it in a wifi battle?

wakachamo June 25th, 2007 9:43 AM

Certain legendaries are considered too powerful and therefore a cheat in most battles, which is why people don't like using them because it's unfair.

peachesncream June 25th, 2007 9:50 AM

which legendaries are considered to be the really powerful unfair ones?

lol, that is a very good question

MasterWGS June 25th, 2007 10:07 AM

Wobbuffet is up there because of his attack-types. All he can do is basically counter and mirror coat you to death. With the right set-up, and good prediction, he's just about unbeatable. Therefore, he's been thrown into the 'Uber' status.

that makes some sense i suppose

Punishment June 25th, 2007 10:09 AM

Well Wobbuffet has an abilty that prevents you from escaping. It can learn Encore to force you to do the same moves over and over again. It has Mirror Coat and Counter so with Encore it can predict pretty well. It also has Destiny Bond at its disposal when it is low on health. It's base stats arent to shabby either. That is why it is on the list.

spike6958 June 25th, 2007 10:12 AM

so basicly it just there because people are to scared to fight it thats just sad

pilotwings June 25th, 2007 10:14 AM

Because of this, I'll make a team of Wobbuffets.

[evil laugh]

Punishment June 25th, 2007 10:14 AM

No it is there because it can take out at least two or more Pokemon for the peice of one and basically stall out a match. Imagine the nightmare when two Wobbuffets go face to face.

Kyogre is on the list because of it's stats and abilty. It's movepool aint to shabby either. Those combinations give Kyogre a boost in attack power. Same with Groudon.

spike6958 June 25th, 2007 10:15 AM

yeh but there are lots of pkmn that can do that, ones that arnt on that list (my alakazam is a good example)

So you are saying your Alakazam can trap an opponent and survive while using Encore along with Mirror Coat or Counter to relfect attacks back at twice the strength?

The reaosn Alakazam isnt on the list is because he has a horrid Defens stat. He is so frail many Pokemon can take him out.

peachesncream June 27th, 2007 4:24 PM

do some people allow legendaries in battle? because there are a select few legendaries I would like to be in my main team.

bloo14 June 27th, 2007 4:30 PM

ok this ticks me off a little

first everyone against cheating devices

now ledgendaries

i mean its not like they're hacked

I agree totally, I think I should be allowed to use my legendaries in battle, it's not even like my team is made up of only legendaries, I only have one on level 100 and one more I'm planning on training at the moment. The person I am going up against can feel free to use legendaries too

bloo14 June 27th, 2007 4:36 PM

i guess there scared

they will lose

lol, of course, once my pokemon are trained better maybe you and I can battle (that is if you battle using wifi)

bloo14 June 27th, 2007 4:44 PM

yes i use it

rarely though

Short Range June 27th, 2007 4:49 PM

I think Legendaries should be allowed. You wouldn't want Groudon or Kyogre to go to waste would you? Their Abilities are to good. And even though I don't use legenaries I still think that if both people agree with using them then they should be allowed. That's my two cents, or... whatever.

There are so many people in this thread who don't have a clue about the standard competitive battling metagame. That's just sad (although I'm not surprised in the least).

The reason why UBERS (that's the name for super legendaries in Soulinferno's post) are banned is because they would overcentralize battles, making competitive battling stale and boring. This means every person will use the same ubers on their team and there will be barely no room for any other Pokemon (besides Blissey). If you use non-ubers, you won't stand a chance against people who do use ubers (this is assuming your opponent isn't a retard).

Normal legendaries (the 4 legendary trios, Jirachi, Celebi, Manaphy, Phione, Heatran, Cresselia, Regigigas) are not usually banned by people who know what they are doing since they won't overcentralize the metagame. Those are fine to use in most Wi-Fi battles (some people still ban even those legends for some reason).

Now don't worry, there IS a metagame where ubers are also included. This means both you and your opponent are allowed to use any Pokemon including ubers. However, you must make sure your opponent also agrees to this set of rules.

I got in a battle that was Wobbuffet Vs Wobbuffet, it was hell.

I don;t personally hold a grudge against battling legendaries, I'm confident enough that my normal pokemon can take them out.

Jirachi3 June 27th, 2007 5:08 PM

I think aragorn pretty much summed it up..O_o
