A Question about Iron Ball

I'm having a little trouble.
In the battle tower, I have a pokemon that knows earthquake and is holding an Iron Ball. According to the description, it should hit flying and levitating pokemon, but it doesn't.
What do you think? Am I doing something wrong?

EDIT: So far: Farfetch'd, Xatu, and Haunter w/Levitate have avoided it.

Melody June 25th, 2007 7:16 PM

No. Iron ball makes Flying and Levitate-ing pokemon vulnerable to ground type moves IF they are holding the Iron ball.
If you plan to use the iron ball in that fasion then i suggest you use a move that will swap items with the opponent.

It only works if it held by a fliying type enemy.

so, aside from using trick, does it have any other purpose?

Legacy June 26th, 2007 2:26 AM

It's pretty much worthless, if you ask me. The only real Pokémon it'd be useful on is hitting Bronzong with an Earthquake.

Richard Lynch June 26th, 2007 5:14 AM

If you have a Pokemon that knows Fling, I assume an Iron Ball would do decent damage. But that move in itself is slightly useless. Trick works best when trading Choice Specs to a Physical Sweeper, or Choice Band to a Special Sweeper. THAT can seriously mess up your enemy's game plan. ;)

The only way that I can see this being usefull is when an enemy that has levitate uses something like theif against you and steals it.

Thanks for your comments.

I was just looking through my items yesterday and read the description of the Iron Ball...it baffled the hell out of me as to how it benefits your Pokemon in any way. I guess it does have a use...but it's very situational.

anemos June 27th, 2007 12:36 PM

no, it must involve some planning between you and the opponent to make it do anything but hurt you.. =/ i dont think anyone who actualy uses TRICK would think of this.

ThePenguinCave June 27th, 2007 2:24 PM

use bronzong w/ iron ball and the move gyro ball, it will have 100-something base power
or you can use gravity it has the same effect but is a move and not an item

This is somewhat relative, what's the Lagging Tail good for?

Short Range June 27th, 2007 4:03 PM

The Lagging Tail is to make Pokemon use moves last. Like if I had a move which states "This move does double damage when used after the opponent" then that would be a good move to pair with Lagging Tail. It does have a good side.
