im thinking about chimchar but i heard that pilpup isnt bad either.iv been thinking about this for ages

ok sos but how do i found out if it has been posted and do the moderators close it

Well. It depends on what you want. If you want a defensive starter, go with Piplup, but Piplup and it's evolutions don't offer many good attacks. . . Turtwig mainly offers HP-draining moves, and Chimchar offers a variety of fighting/fire attacks.

Again, depends on what you want. Heck, you don't even have to use a starter in your team.

the first time i started i had piplup which he was awesome until he got into empoleon when he gets killed in the elite 4 every 2 seconds by a brckbreak or an earthquake so i would choose chimchar or turtwig

spike6958 June 27th, 2007 2:05 PM

turtwig is the best, chimchar is hard to handle i found and piplup dosnt hold up in his later stages, so i would go with turwig

ThePenguinCave June 27th, 2007 2:06 PM

empoleon can learn flash cannon, so i like it, but they're all good there is no best

It's highly debatable. I started with a Piplup, and I'm content with him now that he's an Empoleon. I've read aroud that electric type Pokemon took a hit in Diamond/Pearl, whereas fire type Pokemon are actually better. Hey, I don't know. But before you pick, keep this in mind...

Empoleon: Water/Steel. (This means he has a lot of resistances, but he isn't resistant to fire thanks to his steel attribute. Electric is his only true weakness.)
Infernape: Fire/Fighting. (It may seem like a decent combo, but he's weak to psychic, flying, and water.)
Torterra: Grass/Ground. (Not only does he suck a lot of HP, but he sucks in terms of speed. Not to mention he's got a warning tag on him that states "Do not handle in cold temperatures". Yes, I'm referring to his 4x weakness to ice...)

These are just some things to keep in mind, but just remember, none of them are truly "bad".

i chose piplup because he is so darn cute! (I'm like the girls on the show, always choosing the cutest ones)

PlayaFritz June 27th, 2007 6:54 PM

Really, none of these starters are amazing, and it is personal oppinion. I started with Turtwig cause i always started with the grass. He is probably the worst, but with the right moveset can be used. Empoleon can be pretty good with the right moves, but still isnt that great. Infernape is pretty good, especially because of the lack of fire in D/p. If i where u id take piplup or chinchmar. But starters dotn determine that much, so keep that in mind as well

well think about it this way, which is more likely to make your trip through all Sinnoh more smooth?

Ryo1234 June 27th, 2007 7:49 PM

Chimchar was my choice.
If you evolve him before the first gym, you'll have Mach Punch- a super effective attack against rock types. Then his natural fire attacks can help you out at the second Gym quite well.
Plus his speed in his later stages is the ****.

In my first game (which was a very bad game) I started out with Chimchar because the fire-types are my favorite and plus I thought Infernape was going to be a stronger version of Blaziken. But after reaching his final form, Infernape started to suck bad one my team (Though my whole team was sucking bad) and after not being able to beat the Elite Four I restarted and picked Piplup. My second game was a lot better with Piplup, though I liked useing Prinplup over Empoleon, I noticed that my game was a lot better with the water starter than the fire.

I'm thinking about buying Pearl and using Turtwig, but I think Torterra wouldn't do me any good as he is slow and has a 4x weekness to Ice attacks. But really, you should pick a starter depending on how you want to play the game. My personal recommendation is to choose Piplup and replace Chimchar with a simple Ponyta.

RR☆Oresama June 27th, 2007 10:36 PM

You would NOT be surprised.

I chose Chimchar, in terms of Eeny Meany Miney Mo, and then I then got every badge with it, along with my Roserade, and Luxray. I then bought Diamond and then got myself both a Prinplup, and a Grotle. I still am training them though, so I can get a Torterra and Empoleon. Maybe they could be good against the Elite 4.

It depends on what you will choose, though. As long as you love that PKMN, then its the best! Don't go with strong PKMNs that you dislike. They will never be strong if you don't love that certain PKMN...

rishi 20 June 27th, 2007 10:52 PM

ahh wicked but wait this dosent narrow down my choices on what to get.

help!

beauty. proletariat June 27th, 2007 11:28 PM

Infernape: Sweeper - Good for Killing opponents fast and dont care about HP...

Empoleon: Tank - Good Def, only weak to Ground. Good HM slave... Good for Pros.

Torterra: (dont know what to say) Good HP. Above Average ATK etc. Good if ur beginner

rishi 20 June 28th, 2007 7:10 AM

i thinking to get between pilpup or chimchar now

my mind is mostly one chimchar though.........
