Reane lightly shrugged, and then, dreamily, yet sadly, looked off into the sky again, searching its never-ending fields of clouds.
Her lavender eyes held regret, wonder, excitement... And anger.... All at once. All those emotions. All at once. Trying her best not to break into sobs, or do anything rash.... She bit her lip and kept silent. OOC: oO; I know it sounds rather..... Weird.... (And anger? I'm not sure if she WAS feeling that, but the opening song.... *Sigh*) But I was listening to the opening theme, and it got me sort of... You know. XD |
Ayrix took one last look at the castle as it disappeared into the distance. Its tall spires and grand arches still seemed to dominate over all Ostia even from such a far distance. He was in with a small party and headed for who-knows-where, but it was a good feeling to be on the move again. He continued to practice with his Nosferatu tome, creating individual balls of purple light, moving them, then making them disappear. He hummed to an old, cheerful Etrurian ditty as he went along, the fear of what lay ahead not in his mind for once. He waved his arm, creating more small purple ghost-like things in the air, and formed them into a ring which rotated around him. He let control of the things go, allowing them to spin around him on his own, but to his great shock he noticed that the circle around him had become more like an ellipse, pointing to a direction in the distance. No one had noticed him practicing, or at least had not cared to watch for now, but he spoke, just loud enough to where the whole party could hear, “Something’s amiss.”
They looked at Ayrix, puzzled, then Ayrix began again. “There’s another magic user somewhere in this vicinity...do you see the Nosferatu spell around me? It shouldn’t be pointing like this...it’s being drawn to someone else’s magic power. I have a bad feeling we’re being watched...” |
Reane nodded slowly, and took ou her new Long Bow, along with a arrow.
"Should we go see who?" The girl asked, eying Ayrix attentively, while readying her bow. |
The man from my dream....Tear thought, as he watched the ellipse- shaped Nosferatu encompass Ayrix.
He glanced around to find his companions tense, holding out their weapons in front of them. "Wait," he said, turning his icy stare in the direction of the spell. "Not all of us should go. If whatever we meet out there is a foe, as a group, we would all be caught unaware." He strode forward from the company as he said this, gripping the shafts of his swords tightly as he began to pull them out. ".......I can go and check...." OOC: Oh blah, I have a bad case of RPing block. I need a good night's sleep hehe... |
Ayrix felt drawn to the source of the magic pull. His Nosferatu was pointing like a compass arrow to whoever was in the distance... "They're in the trees..." Ayrix whispered.
"Don't follow me...if any of you were to combat a magician you'd probably end up dead in ten seconds. I'm not the most powerful Druid, but I can take a whole lot more magic and survive." He remembered the night he had been struck by Excalibur and had somehow lived to tell the tale...it is rare that the Excalibur tome is ever used, but even rarer for someone to survive. He knew he had an amazing resistance to magic, and also knew why, but he could never tell anyone. Ayrix became smaller and smaller in the distance. It was almost dark outside, and the party was a league out of the gates of City Ostia on the border of the wilderness. Ayrix stepped ever closer, his Nosferatu lighting his way with an eerie purple glow on the ground. Yes, closer, you have nothing to fear... A voice appeared inside Ayrix’s mind. Ayrix jumped, his Nosferatu breaking down into smaller bits and flying off. “Who’s there? How have you broken into my mind?” Ayrix shouted. He gripped his head and tried to look around, but he was enveloped in darkness. He had not realized how far he had wandered into the forest. “I said, WHO’S THERE?” Closer, now, closer... Against his will, Ayrix found himself moving closer to the source of the magic aura, and while mindlessly following the direction, he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his head and saw a bright light above him. He was unable to move. I want you to kill your friends, then come back here. Do as I say, Ayrix Ayrischon of Etruria. The Count Reglay has ordered their death and your return and submission... The light came from a staff a few feet above him, and he saw the silhouette of a person in a formal sage outfit in front of him. He couldn’t move, but when the man above him waved his staff he felt all control go out of his body. He got up, ran out of the forest, and saw his friends in the distance...a sudden urge to kill them came over him, and he activated his Fenrir, clutching two purple flames in his hands...he walked closer. He felt his face contorting and his body twitching as he stepped closer to them. Kill them... The voice whispered to him. He couldn’t resist. “No...” Ayrix thought. He was standing a few feet from them, their faces, which were lit up by the light of Fenrir, were in terrible fear. Tear had his sword drawn, Reane had her bow ready and aimed at Ayrix. “I won’t kill them...” Ayrix thought. Oh, but you must! “No, I refuse to...” Ayrix searched his mind for some way to control his body. He summoned all of his magical power at the last moment has he felt his arms raise to release the spell. He heard someone from the group say “Please don’t make me do this, Ayrix...” He felt his fingers begin to open. He concentrated all his magical power to his fingers to stop it. How dare you resist me? The voice hissed. Ayrix then tried to move his hands, and by making them move a slight bit on his own he then felt a small amount of control rush forth over his whole body. He tried to speak. “Don’t...shoot...under...sage’s...control...flee...” And before the sage could exert control over his body again, Ayrix shot the Fenrir flames at himself, causing him to fall to the ground unconscious. |
As she heard those words, she was filled with a deep anger and hatred or the other person, the sage.
"No!!" Reane's voice rang out, as she stood paralyzed, unbelieving, and wide mouthed as she saw Ayrix slump to the floor. Not knowing what to do she stared, unable to move. |
Tear watched helplessly in horror, as Ayrix fell to his knees from the intensity of his own attack.
He did it..... for us.... He thought to himself, his mind racing in a blur of sorrow, sympathy, and regret. Soon enough though, his thoughts were revolving around one thing....... Revenge.. He raced off, away from his companions, into the field that was ahead of him. "Fight me you coward!!" He yelled, his voice echoing throughout the grassland. He raised his sword up, ready to face any foe that meet him face to face. |
"Ayrix!!!! No.... how??? Grrrr....You Coward! Show yourself I'LL KILL YOU!"
Drago said with lots of anger. "How did this happen? Was it a magic seal? Magic seals can stop magic... But I never knew they can reflect back... But... This isn't... Fair......Grrr..." Drago Lifted Ayrix and Put him in a tent where he could rest. Drago then went out and got a torch. "I'll help you Tear! This time we go together!" Drago Lifted his sword and ran to the nearest enemy and With a lot of anger he slashed and slashed. |
"I'll help you both!" Reane cried as she was brought back to her senses.
Racing towards the two, she stopped. And waited. "Show yourself!" |
Ayrix was somewhere between consciousness and unconsciousness as he saw his friends run off into the woods to battle whatever it was that had taken control of him. He was too weak to move, to speak, to do anything but watch as they ran to their deaths...
Unless... Ayrix suddenly had an idea, but if it didn't work, he doubted anything would. If this didn't kill him, it would make him strong enough to save his friends. He tried to put his lips together, struggling to make any noise at all. After a few moments, he was finally able to mouth a few words, and began chanting under his breath. Almost instantly, the nosferatu spell appeared around him, and it flew through the grass and sunk into Ayrix. He was able to speak somewhat louder. This time, larger nosferatu spells flew out around him and went into more areas of surrounding grass, flying back into Ayrix after a few seconds. He looked around by the feeble light of his spell to see that the grass for fifty feet around him was brown and dead. He was sucking the life out of the plants around him, and it was succeeding. Please, just let me get there in time... Ayrix thought, continuing to take the lives of the plants around him as his own...a few more times and he could probably get to his feet, but it might be too late... |
Reane caustiosly strung her arrow onece more, aiming it into the darkness.
"Come. Out." The girl's eyes blazed with pure rage as she thought of Ayrix, Ayrix lying on the ground... |
Ayrix was on his knees, shaking terribly. He was attempting to summon the strength to stand up, but couldn't. He had sucked the life from all the grass in his range of vision and wondered what he would do now. "The trees..." He whispered to himself. He focused the direction of his nosferatu towards the trees, watching as the small globes of light went into the forest, dimly illuminating it. He was becoming aware of the horrible burning sensation coming from his Fenrir burns, and he tried to block the pain out of his mind as he watched a distant tree shrivel, the leaves falling off all at once. The globes of purple light, now incredibly bright from carrying the energy of the tree, merged with Ayrix, and he felt a rush of energy enter him, and he stood up, shakily but stable enough to begin walking. He began to slowly walk in the direction of his friends' distant voices, and as he began to ran he drained the life from another tree in the distance as he headed toward the woods.
He quickly brought forth and snuffed out his Fenrir to make sure that he felt well enough to do it, and entering the edge of the forest, he stood for a moment, draining the life from the trees on each of his sides, then ran deeper in, shouting "Reane! Tear! Get out of there, he'll kill you! Quick, he's somwhere in the forest and whatever it is had the power to control me!" Puffing, out of breath, he dashed further into the dark forest, illuminating himself with a ring of nosferatu in an attempt to get his friends' attention. |
"What?!" Reane asked, as she heard Ayrix shout her name, suprised to hear his voice, of all people's.
Now paying close attention, she got Ayrix's message, and gazed out into the deeper part of the forest before replying. "Come on Tear, Drago... Ayrix, we are coming!" |
Ayrix ran up to meet the rest of his party. “No time to explain—get out of here, NOW!” As they ran past, Ayrix saw a bright light appear before him—the sage had appeared from nowhere, and instantly shot the shining blue crescent of Excalibur at the fleeing warriors. With a split second to react, Ayrix cancelled it out with a blast of Fenrir, looking behind him for a second to ensure that his comrades were making it out of the forest safely.
“You’re stronger than they claim you are back in Etruria, Ayrix.” The sage said, sneering. “No matter though, I can still instantly take control of you.” The sage held up a staff pointing it at Ayrix. Ayrix suddenly leaped behind a bush and shot a giant blast of Fenrir at the sage, who barely dodged it, and responded with an Excalibur which hacked off the bush a few inches above Ayrix’s head. “So my pursuers have followed me all the way to Lycia?” Ayrix shouted angrily. “I have said it every time I am attacked, I shall say it again—Count Reglay will never use me as a tool for death and destruction.” Ayrix dodged another Excalibur, which splintered a tree behind him a moment later. “It is not for us to judge why Count Reglay demands your services—although a runaway, you are still one of his subjects and under his rule, now submit to me!” Ayrix was keeping his distance. If he got any closer, the sage could possibly enter his mind in a second. Ayrix hoped that if the sage attempted to do so, he would have a harder time because of his experience with mind control the first time around. “I am in Lycia, not Etrutia! I live by my own rules!” Ayrix shouted from somewhere in the darkness, launching a circle of Fenrir flames around him. “Count Reglay has changed—he no longer respects Etruria’s love of peace, instead he has a growing thirst for power. He has succumbed to madness!” Ayrix yelled. An Excalibur spell came from the darkness, missing Ayrix by two feet. Ayrix ran behind a bush and shot two Fenrir flames in opposite directions, and the illumination in front of him gave him a glimpse of the Sage, who ran toward him. Ayrix redirected a nearly point-blank Excalibur with his purple flames, and then backed off, but not far enough. He suddenly felt a sharp pain in his head, and realized that the sage was trying to gain control of his mind again. “I won’t...let...this...happen again...” You have no choice... Ayrix felt control over his own magical powers lessening to the point where he realized he could no longer summon any spells on his own. He was feeling much weaker, and was soon staggering. He felt the control over his limbs begin to leave his body, and saw the light from the sage’s staff before him. Ayrix realized he had one last chance to regain total control of his body, and in an instant he pulled his Physic staff from his cloak and hurled it at the sage. It hit him in the face, causing his spell to break and for him to fall backwards. Ayrix felt control immediately return to his body, and with newfound strength he dashed over to his staff, and smashed it into the sage as he struggled to get up again. Ayrix set his foot on the sage’s chest and summoned a monstrous Fenrir flame. “No one dares control me.” Ayrix growled, and released the flame, but a white flash of light appeared where the sage was, and in the instant the Fenrir would have slain him, the sage disappeared again. After realizing this, Ayrix felt rage pulse through his veins, and he let out an angry scream, causing owls and other birds to fly out of the trees around him...he couldn’t believe the fiend got away... Next time I see him, I’ll finish him for sure... |
Reane stopped, and looked at Ayrix carefully, putting back her weapons.
As if reading his mind, she suddenly said "Don't worry... Ayrix, I'm sure you will get him next time...". Saying so, the lavender eyed girl placed a hand on the Druid's shoulder, although not sure that she should, wanting to reassure him. |
"Oh, Reane, it's you..." Ayrix said softly. He turned around to look at her.
"You mean you didn't leave the forest? It was incredibly dangerous for you to stay behind and watch the battle. If he saw you, he could have taken control of you and have you kill yourself or others, but it's over for now. Let's see if we can get back to the rest of the group...I think I ought to answer any questions they might have. I think I know why that sage is after us..." Ayrix stood up, brushing the leaves off his cloak, and began to walk out of the woods with Reane... |
Oni was seem to be left out in Ostia.
"Oh great...I got seperated again..." He muttered softly and looked around. "Where are they? I knew I shouldn't have overslept..." |
"Well, I just... Was.... Waiting, in case you.... Needed any help." Reane closed her eyes, then opened them, revealing her seemingly sad lavender colored orbs.
"But yes, let's get back to the group." The two continued on their way to the others. |
"Ack, where are they?" Oni cried in diesperation as he left Ostia's walls. He carried his sword on his shoulder. He looked around and asked a few people if they ever saw a druid come by. Of course, Ayrix is the only most noticable person in the group since he wore huge dark robes.
"Old man, you sure you haven't seen any guy in dark robes?" He asked one of the villagers. "Nope," Said the man. "But I've seen a beautiful lady with hair green as the forest walk over there a few days ago," He said pointing to one road. "A few days ago? Since when?" "Say two days ago. Yep, preetiest gal with the most saddest eyes I've...hey!" The old man cried as Oni started to run. "Sorry, Mister. Gotta run!" |
Tear was preoccupied on his way out. His eyes gleamed with each of the falling leaves that floated down in front of him. He held out his battle-worn hand to catch one, but it floated around it as it continued on it's way towards the ground. He clenched his hand and put it back by his side, as he continued his walk.
No one...... really knows me.... he said himself. They look at me, and find nothing but a noble, one who has it all but has seen nothing. They do not know...... of..... my mistake.... He continued to tread upon the beaten path, as he lay sight on a steep mountain range. I guess that will be our next obstacle... |
When they arrived, Reane looked around worriedly for Tear.
I've been meaning to talk to him... Maybe he'll understand... I know he's much more than what he appears... Maybe he'll agree... As she thought this, the girl scanned the forest with a sharp, emotionless gaze, yet with hints of worry in them. |
Oni stood in the entrance of the forest.
"They couldn't have gone here..." Oni muttered to himself. He looked on the ground. "They have!" He noticed Ayrix's trail made from his heavy robes. He looked at the menacing dark forest once more. "If they're there, then I'd be there!" He then continued to run as fast as he can. |
"Oh, there's Lord Tear over there...it looks like everyone's ok." Ayrix followed a few paces behind Renae to Tear, and Ayrix sat down in the grass about ten feet from him, pulling off his heavy robe. He had placed his Physic staff back in his robe before he left the forest and hadn't had a chance to look at it until now. The blue orb was shattered in one place and was covered in blood. Ayrix groaned.
"It should still work alright...it might not have as big a range though; I'll have to use it more carefully. Makes a good club though..." Ayrix muttered to himself. He pulled out his water flask and took a sip, then poured a bit over his hair and forehead to cool himself down... |
Tear sat down, lifting his swords for comfort, and watched the setting sun converge with the icy peaks of the mountains below. He scanned through his memories, good and bad, and came back to the incident when Reane was struck with the arrow. He remembered how he let himself loose, let his rage fill himself up to the brink.
"I.... can't risk doing that again." He said, a small trace of fear to be found in his voice. "No..... I...... can't let it happen again...... like it did so long ago." He drew his sword to keep his mind off the subject. He saw how it shone against the sun, like to a mirror. He searched around for a nearby stone, and began sharpening his blade. |
"Tear... May I talk to you?" Reane asked him softly as she approached him.
Noticing him sharpening his blade, she sat down, for once letting emotion show on her face-Anxiety and thought-, waiting. As she sat, the Caelin wondered what she was going to say. This... Won't be very easy... |
