If I'm interpreting this correctly, you can trade betwen FR and R, but not FR and E?

That would be because, to trade, you need to have gotten the National Dex on both games. In FR/LG it involves completing the Sevii Island quests, and fixing Celio's machine.
In R/S/E, it's just beating the E4 if I remember correctly.

Make sure you've done that before you try trading again.

You don't even have to beat the league in Ruby/Sapphire. I know because I traded a Mantine at the begging of the game to my team.

You have to for FR/LG trading to R/S/E game. You can trade between any one of R/S/E games at anytime of the game, once you have access, but not from LG/FR.

I believe that Flavaquil is only partially correct, and this is what I believe to be true;
In R/S you can trade with FR at anytime of the game, as long as you've fixed the Network Machine in FR. You do not need to obtain the NationalDex before hand, because trading with FR/LG is how the NationalDex is obtained on R/S. However, in E, you must first become the champion (ie. defeat the E4) before you can trade with FR/LG (before you are able to obtain the NationalDex). I also believe that you must first defeat the E4 in E before you can trade for any Pokémon not listed in the HoennDex, even if it is from R/S. Meaning if you have not defeated the E4 on E, and attempt to trade a Charmander (or any other Pokémon not listed in the HoennDex) by trading with R/S, it would still not work ( however, I could be wrong on that). Anyone, feel free to correct me if any of this information is inaccurate/incorrect.

I hope this helps at all?

Well I'm really tempted to test this out right now and confirm all of it. But I currently am not in a good position to do so. I'll test and confirm tomorrow what trades can be what, it may take some time, but at least it'll be confirmed.

Spoiler:
As this is the only thing I can confirm to be incorrect, sorry, but it does work. If you have a say... Bulbasaur on your R/S, you can trade it to your Emerald and use it at anytime at the beginning of your game. This actually works the same way with R/S/E to FR/LG. I.e. You can get a Mudkip at the beginning of your FR/LG game.

I'll attempt to test out the rest tomorrow.

I believe that you ned to obtain the Ruby and Sapphire stones in your Fire Red game at the Sevii Islands. Ruby = Island 1. Sapphire Island 6 then once team rocket steal the sapphire, go to island 5, in the warehouse and re-obtain it.

That is incorrect. You can't trade from FR/LG to other versions before you've fixed Celio's network machine after getting the National dex. I can also confirm that you can't trade non-Hoenn dex Pokémon (or eggs for that matter) to Emerald before getting the National dex. I've tried it and it doesn't work. I'm not sure about FR/LG National dex Pokémon trading, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't work because you wouldn't be able to evolve the non-Kanto dex Pokémon anyway. I've used a rom hacking tool to add Johto Pokémon to Kanto and before you have the National Dex they refuse to evolve.

Well it seems I've been proven wrong. It's been awhile since I've played the game and I recall it to be different, but that may have just been the trades of different starters of each generation instead of in between gen starters. I tested it out again (you wouldn't believe how long it takes to set up both games...)

*hands cookie to you for being right*

A classic example of the Kanto Pokemon, is Golbat. Even if it does have max happiness, it will still refuse to evolve until you have the ND.

Shining Salamence July 2nd, 2007 7:21 PM

I thought you had to complete the Hoenn Dex in Emerald to get the ND =/

Shows how much I know XD I don't even own the game

daniofchaos July 7th, 2007 9:03 AM

you can trade between fr and em when in fr you have achived the ruby and the sapphire (itens)
