Speed - Does something else control it?

Me and my cousin decided to have a Wi-Fi battle a couple of days ago. During the battle his Porygon-Z outran my Garchomp. Because this concerned me, I asked to see the stats of his Porygon-Z, and to my surprise its speed stat was LOWER than my Garchomp's. At the time in the battle there was no sandstorm or other weather going on, neither pokemon had had a stat increased by a move, so I am wondering, is this a glitch or something?

EDIT - I also heard a story of a Porygon-Z outrunning a Staraptor and another story of a Garchomp outrunning a Jolteon.

There's this little item called Choice Scarf. It boosts Speed but allows you to use only one move.

What attacks was his Porygon-Z using? There are some moves that are capable of allowing a Pokémon to strike first regardless of Speed (i.e. Quick Attack).

Porygon Z has the ability to download the foes strongest stat so he can increase his maybe porygon was lacking in speed and downloaded your speed stat and raised his or maybe the garchomps highest stat was speed and porygon downloaded and raised his.

Things like that happen. My Sceptile was slower than my cousin's Swampert and Sceptile's Leaf Blade went first.

and maybe the IV for his speed is high as well.

None of the pokemon mentioned were holding that item. At least I think...

None of those kinds of moves were used. The move used was ice beam (an obvious choice).

That can't be it because that does not explain the Garchomp outrunning the Jolteon, and Porygon-Z downloaded Garchomp's attack stat.

I am starting to believe that might be the case where sometimes the game glitches.

No. I later checked the stats of the pokemon. Remember?

Ehh, I'm gonna go with that it may have been holding at item. Other than that, I can't think of anything else. :/

☼Charlie☼ July 12th, 2007 2:47 PM

But I know it wasn't a holding item... uhh this is frying my brain.

Pikasaur July 12th, 2007 2:49 PM

My Sceptile didn't have an item either.

Pikasaur I think you are right. Stuff like that may just happen. Which makes you wonder how reliable the Wi-Fi battling system is.
