Kind of Noob EV ?

Ok, i think i already know the answer, but i want to make sure its true. Ok:

I have a poke i want to get EVs. I give it EXP Share. I have a poke lvl 100 or fully EV trained that i give say Power Bracer. I fight a Shinx. Will the poke with EXP Share recieve all 5 EVs?

Is this correct or is it Halfed? I believe it gives it all, but i need to make sure so i dont mess up.

I'm unsure if it gives all. As the Power Items don't transfer over to the Exp. Share. But since both of the Pokemon gain the same experience, then I guess they get the same amount of EV's as well.

Pokemon holding Exp. Share do not benefit from the EV item the fighting Pokemon is holding. ~Wii

I read..

I read elsewhere that if the pokemon holding exp share can gain ev. They gain half that ev that the pokemon that is fighting would gain... But I am new to EV training. I read it on these forums. Or on Serebii, which has a good EV training guide. Check there.

ThatInsaneKid July 14th, 2007 6:01 AM

The EXP Share-equipped Pokemon only gets one EV, no matter what.

So... really, it's a waste of time. I'd just send out the EV Trainee first and then switch them out the first turn.

I am trying to give a pokemon vitamans but it says it wont have any effect. WHat happened?

Dogod July 14th, 2007 6:28 AM

You gave it 10 of the same type, so you can't give it anymore of that type.

To be clearer, vitamins only work for the first 100 EVs in the stat it works for. So if you already have 100 EVs in Attack, for example, either from you giving Proteins already or EV-training for Attack EVs yourself, you won't be able to use anymore Proteins to give it Attack EVs. So if you plan on using vitamins, it is best to give them as soon as possible.

I read that the pokes gain the same amount of EVs, i read that on a bunch of sites. So...

Ichida July 14th, 2007 9:11 AM

Any lv100 Pokemon cannot gain EVs. Well, it can, but there's no level up to apply them, so it's useless to EV train anything once it's hit lv100. I learned that the hard way with a shiny Gallade. T~T

Xbaseballkid93x July 14th, 2007 9:26 AM

I dont wanna EV train a 100 XD im EV training a poke that cant attack until a certain level...

Jirachi3 July 14th, 2007 9:42 AM

im about 99.99999% sure that the one with exp share will NOT gain the ev's from the pokemon thats fighting. Im sure that the only way to gain ev's is to fight that pokemon.

Xbaseballkid93x July 14th, 2007 10:05 AM

Jirachi, your wrong, i read that both pokes recieve the same EVs so if the one without EXP Share gains say 4 EVs, the one with EXP Share gains 4 also.

Pkmn Trainer Alex July 14th, 2007 10:13 AM

"Any experience you get through the EXP. Share is divided in half, so you'd think it would be the same for Effort Values right? Actually, you get the same amount of Effort Values for the battle as the pokemon fighting it did. So if your Mudkip had EXP. Share attatched to it and your Blaziken defeated a Carvanha, both would get 1 EV point, if they could. Sadly, you cannot manipulate the Macho Brace or Pokerus to give Mudkip 4 EVs in place of 1 by using the EXP. Share. However, if you were to send out Mudkip first with Macho Brace and Pokerus and switch, it would gain the four Effort Points."

Taken from serebii.net.

Edit: And just to lay it out there further, all of what I quoted means that if a Pokémon uses Exp. Share, it will get the same amount of EVs that the fighting Pokémon gets without taking into effect the Macho Brace or Power Item that the fighting Pokémon may be holding. So if you use Exp. Share to EV-train, it can never get more than the amount the enemy Pokémon gives, so it is better to send a EV-training Pokémon out first, then switch out immediately to something that can fight.

Since a lot of questions seem to be asked about EVs (multiple times), I advise those who are still confused to go to serebii.net and check out all they need.

There is also a very convenient thread here at PC that has guides on everything competitive, including EVs and IVs.

Thank you, i wasnt sure... To bad, if it did, id have 100 EVs so far... instead only 20...

Jirachi3 July 14th, 2007 12:46 PM

I think someone owes me an apology :P

But if the holder of EXP. Share has Pokerus it will gain the bonus EV's.

Pkmn Trainer Alex July 14th, 2007 1:25 PM

Yea, that's true enough. I haven't actually used Pokérus myself, so I only talked about the Macho Brace and Power Items with respect to Exp. Share.

ShadowTails July 14th, 2007 1:27 PM

Yeah, you just have to make sure you cover everything about a question as far as the answer, if I didn't say anything about it someone would probably have asked, but knowing how people don't usually read the entire thread... someone will post the same question "Will my Pokemon with Pokerus holding the EXP. Share get the extra EV Points from the Pokerus?"

Pkmn Trainer Alex July 14th, 2007 1:32 PM

Yea, sorry. XD What confused me was serebii actually did say Pokérus didn't work with Exp. Share, which went against what I previously thought, so I got confused myself. I tend to not be to confident in what I actually "know". >.>

ShadowTails July 14th, 2007 2:28 PM

Serebii isn't always right, and they usually neglect to fix or update pages... a lot of their data is missing from their server and it really does get to confuse people, their EV guide doesn't even mention the EV reducing berries so it's out of date. Ah well, it's probably best to let this thread die now that the question has been answered.

Read what you wrote, you make it sound as if the one holding EXP Share doesnt get anything....
