Raikou L.42 – Lightning – HP80 Basic Pokemon Poke-Power: Thunderclap You can use this Power once during your turn, when you attach a Lightning Energy from your hand to this Pokemon. Place 1 damage counter on 1 of your opponent’s Benched Pokemon. This Power can’t be used if Energy is attached as an effect of an attack. [L][L][L] Thunder Climb: 50 damage. Discard the top 3 cards from your deck, and do an additional 10 damage for each Lightning Energy that’s discarded. Then, take all of those Lightning Energy out of your discard pile and attach them to 1 of your Pokemon. Weakness: Fighting (+20) Resistance: Steel (-20) Retreat: 2 Rate & Review. Thanks to Water Pokemon Master from www.pokebeach.com for the scan. |
Even though this card isn't great, I can't help thinking that it will be such a fun card to play in specific decks. It's very much a situational card, where in a certain deck (basically one with lots of energies) it can cause massive damage, whereas when put into a typical one, it can become a pain.
Stats: For a legendary basic, I think that 80 is somewhat dissapointing, since Dialga and Palkia has 90, eitherway its still quite hefty. Since its attack requires 3 energy, then if you start with Raikou, it is likely to take a walloping, putting it down to around 60hp before you have teh chance to blast your opponent. Being a [L] type is good, since Empoleon is a popular card. A weakness to [F] is a very bad sign, as [F] cards are very popular such as Marowak, Lucario and Machamp. An opponents Machop or Lucario can put you onto 60HP left on the first turn of the game. The resistance is a nice bonus, but as delta types leave the game, not many people will have [M] types anymore. The retreat is a bit awkward, although Thunder Climb would reattach them. Attacks + Powers: Thunderclap is pretty much its attack when you dont have enough energy for Thunder Climb. Once 3 energy are attached, then you could attach them further for extra damage, but it would be a bit wasteful. Thunder Climb is what really interests me. In a deck built for this card, then it could easily accomplish 70-80 damage a turn. But this would require a lot of energy to run consistently (40+) and it has the drawback of dumping your trainers and other Raikous, hmm. It's quite similar to Macargo from Neo Revelations ^^. If you do have los of energy, then the upside is, they won't get discarded but attached to another Pokemon (another Raikou perhaps?) but I the problem is what to do with them. Possibly a Mr Briney and then Prof Oaks Research (if they didnt get discarded). Hanamamas Research, Mizukis Network, Nightly Garbage Run are possible combos from upcoming sets, but it's somewhat hard to tell. Rating: Could be a lot of fun, but Raikou would be too difficult to use effectively. 5.5/10 |
