Getting pokemon from previous versions

Also known as the Dongle Method *hehe* I was trying to get a Zangoose on Route 208 with the ruby version plugged in, as it said I could. I searched for an hour with no avail, is there something Im not doing? Do i need the National Dex first or something? Is there something I need to activate on my DS? Please help! Thanks in Advance!

Do you have the National Dex because you need it,or you're looking in the wrong place.Make sure you put it in so it could read it.Because you have to put it in before you turn on the DS.

Well i did have it in before i turned it on and I saw the option to play it. But I dont think I would need the national dex, after all I think thats just for Pal Park and you can catch pokies from prev gens like Geodude and Zubat anyway. Do you know if you do for sure?

Yes I tried to hunt for caterpie on day one but you need the national dex before you can do any of that. I can give you a free eevee if you like.

One of these is your problem:
a)You don't have the National Dex.
b)You're looking in the wrong place.
c)Your Ruby isn't plugged in properly. You need to do it before you turn on your DS or it won't work.
d)Zangoose is in the fast-moving patches and you're looking in a normal one.
e)God just don't want you to have a Zangoose, XD.

I can't believe you were looking for a 1st/2nd/3rd gen. pkmn without the Pokeradar -__-

What did you mean by fast moving patches? Pokeradar? What is all of this stuff?

sinnohdexdone July 24th, 2007 1:13 AM

yea you need national dex

Seol July 24th, 2007 2:31 AM

Ok, here's the situation. Until you get the National Dex, you can only catch Sinnoh Pokemon, and Zangoose is not a Sinnoh Pokemon. You earn the National Dex by having a Pokedex entry for every Sinnoh Pokemon (other than Manaphy). One of these Pokemon can only be seen by facing the Champion (outside trading).

When you get the Natty Dex, you also get the Pokeradar and access to Pal Park. The Pokeradar lets you find rare and National-dex-only Pokemon, and the Pal Park lets you import Pokes from 3rd gen carts.

Until then, you can't catch non-Sinnoh Pokes. At all.

Oh I see. But dont you get the National Dex by defeating the elite 4? I dont think you would need to capture all Sinnoh Pokemon to get it. I would really hate that. I dont like to capture lots of pokes, just the ones that might be useful.

You get the National Pokédex by seeing all 150 Sinnoh region Pokémon. Which you can easily do by the time you beat the game as long as you battle every trainer you can. Otherwise, it will become a hunt to find which entries you missed. You can also, however, get the National Dex earlier if you trade for some of the things you would have to wait to see (like Dialga/Palkia).

And if you would like Zangoose that badly, you can always ask the people in the Wireless Trade Corner forum for one, as you don't need to wait for the National Dex to trade for non-Sinnoh Pokémon, just need it to catch it yourself.
