Mewtwo Moveset Help

I have two Mewtwos at the moment:

Mewtwo @ Leftovers
Modest Nature
252 Speed, 252 Sp. Atk, 4 HP

Psychic
Thunderbolt
Ice Beam
Recover

Special Sweeper. Was thinking about switching Recover for Aura Sphere/Shadow Ball on this one, and using Choice Specs/Wise Glasses for increased sweeping ability, and possibly chain pass a few Calm Minds and an Agility it's way.

Mewtwo @ Leftovers
Timid Nature
252 Speed, 252 Sp. Atk, 4 HP

Psychic
Aura Sphere
Recover
Calm Mind

I gave Calm Mind to this one to boost Sp. Atk that was lost without Modest, and Recover to sustain itself while it does this. With Speed into the 380s, it has good sweeping potential. Possibly Baton Pass a couple of Calm Minds or a Nasty Plot to avoid losing turns through Calm Mind.

Any tips on improving them, and which Mewtwo to use and when, would be greatly appreciated.

I personally don't like stat-up moves and think that Mewtwo should be all out sweeper with the exception of Recover, but thats IMO.

Mewtwo works great with Bolt-Beam.

*NOTE: The only time you'll use Mewtwo is against other ubers, since Mewtwo is banned from normal OU battles. So even though Mewtwo is a Psychic-type, don't put Psychic on it. There are way too many ubers that resist Psychic moves.

Mewtwo @Leftovers
EVs: 42 HP / 252 SAtk / 216 Spd
Timid Nature
-Ice Beam
-Thunderbolt/Recover
-Taunt
-Calm Mind

Taunt Mewtwo was scary in Advance and is still scary in D/P since Taunt now lasts longer. You can laugh in the face of walls like Blissey and Lugia since they have no way of stopping you once they've been Taunted. Ice Beam is the one true move for this set since no Pokemon resist it and most ubers are weak against it. Thunderbolt gives you additional coverage, but Recover is useful for healing HP lost while you were using Calm Mind.

Mewtwo @Life Orb/Choice Specs
EVs: 76 Atk / 212 SAtk / 220 Spd
Timid Nature
-Shadow Ball
-Ice Beam
-Thunder
-Focus Punch/Aura Sphere

An all out attacker. This set takes advantage of Mewtwo's diverse movepool to cover every Pokemon in ubers, including Blissey. Thunder hits Kyogres. Move the Attack EVs into HP if you're not using Focus Punch.

Mewtwo @Leftovers/Life Orb
EVs: 34 HP / 252 Atk / 224 Spd
Adamant Nature
-Ice Punch
-Earthquake
-Brick Break/Selfdestruct
-Bulk Up

You may think physical Mewtwo is silly, but it can be both surprising and devastating. Mewtwo already has a good Attack stat and many ubers lack Defense, so Mewtwo can hit them where it hurts. Ice Punch for Dragons, Earthquake for Steels, Brick Break for Darkrai and Blissey, or Selfdestruct (from XD) to go out with a bang.

Psychic is a horrible move even w/o uber battling.

If you are putting physical sweeper, put in a special category move or it is completely walled by Skarmory and other defensive types.

If you hold Life Orb, almost always give it Recover.

I agree, I used Psychic for STAB, and for fun battles that allow mixtures of Ubers and OUs.

True, I was browsing through Mewtwos available moves as I posted, and thought that a physical Mewtwo would be a good suprise attack, although it may be worth chain passing a Swords Dance mixed in with a Calm Mind or two, to avoid giving the game away when boosting Attack using Bulk Up .

Mewtwo works with Mixed Sweeping.

Physical-Two is a good surprise, but always include at least 1 special attack.

There is no such thing as "fun" OU/Uber battles. If it allows ubers, it's an uber battle. End of story.

lol, don't even waste your time with that kind of set.

Would it be worth using a Brave nature for that reason then? To avoid a drop in Sp. Atk, or will the difference made make be hardly noticeable at all?

Azonic July 29th, 2007 7:16 AM

Ahhh. No. It can handle the Special Attack drop.

Why would you use a Brave nature on Mewtwo, whose Speed is essential? Don't even bother with any nature besides Adamant. If you need a special move, use Fire Blast (for Skarm/Forretress/Metagross). But it's NOT required.

Azonic July 29th, 2007 7:22 AM

Yeah, it should be always Adamant.

Special Attack on Mewtwo is good on it ... I mean you have to do something with that Special Attack stat right???

aragornbird July 29th, 2007 7:24 AM

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ *~*

No you don't. Mewtwo is perfectly fine using only its Attack stat.

Eh. I'm just saying I prefer it with Special Attack in physical sweeping. IMO
