Chaining for Shinies~
I know full well how chaining goes and all that, so this has nothing to do with that. I have a bit of a question, though. Is there actual solid proof, in-game or programming-wise, that a higher chain increases the chances of a shiny patch coming up? I mean, I do agree that using Poké Radar is a great way to find a shiny, since it does generate 2-4 battles per activation, and you can actually weed out which ones aren't going to be shiny. But it seems to me that you should be able to hunt for shinies, regardless of how high the chain is.
From what I have seen, when all of this first started, people were just talking about how they kept a chain going for a long time, and eventually got a shiny patch. People then developed a method to it, saying that this shiny patch would appear at a much higher chance if the chain was above 40 or so. Yet, there are people who have found shiny patches without a chain to begin with. But who knows, that could be sheer luck; although, so could every other shiny patch ever found. I'm just asking if it is possible that this high chain theory is just one made because some people saw results without trying to put some more simple reasoning to it, or is it really that the programmers decided it to be this way? I won't denounce people trying it, but I just want to know if there is more logic to it than simply people saying it works. |

The way I see it is those who chain so much to find shinies have spent so much time looking, that they are obviously more likely to see a shiny patch, simply because they have been at it for longer than they had to. So I'm figuring that someone who doesn't chain, but spends just as much time with the Poké Radar as those who do, would still have the same probability of finding a shiny patch. This, of course, is without any way to prove or disprove either method, so I was just wondering if anyone found an actual reason to believe chaining works. At any rate, it seems this topic got pushed down rather fast, with barely a response at all. XD Thanks to you for replying, Shurikenway. |
i always find- and this could just be me..but when I chain and I actually CATCH a lot of the pokemon im chaining...the shiny patch comes quicker than if I just faint them all. So..in my personal experience catching them shows up..I caught pretty much ALL my eevees and I got a shiny eevee on chain of 12..I caught about 8 slakoths, and I got a chain on about 23 or so (low 20s) I also caught a few absols and not only did I get one shiny patch..chained a few more and got another.
SO i dunno. It might just be me..but in experiences where I catch pokemon while chaining I get the patch earlier than just fainting them. |
