Special Walls and all that stuff

Me again. I am rebuilding my team and am in desparate need of a strong special wall that doesn't have 10 weaknesses and/or mega low HP. BTW, I DON'T want blissey! I am trying not to make a super OU team, just a team of pokemon you don't see every single second. So there ya' go, any good special walls you guys can think of?

Underrated special walls include

Calm Milotic
Calm Empoleon
Careful/Sassy Registeel
Careful/Sassy Bronzong
Careful Snorlax

If sandstorm is running, Careful Cradily makes a great special wall.

Another one I just checked out was Probopass seems pretty good, plus with Lock-On/Zap Cannon, he packs a punch too, even if his attack and special attack stats arent soaring.

Lock-On + Zap Cannon combo has always sucked.

Probopass is another one of those Pokemon that can make a decent special wall if Sandstorm is running.

Dang! I keep forgeting to mention I only have emerald and some of the other 3rd gen. games. I guess that narrows it down to milotic, Snorlax, and Registeel. Any others? I already have steelix so that would rule out registeel. I think I want to use cradily. Any good movesets cuz I suck with cradily (then again that was before I discovered there are more than just attack moves). Please help.

EDIT: Forgot my manners. Thanks for the help guys!

Azonic July 29th, 2007 8:00 PM

4th gen is where all the great walls are.

Snorlax.

Anti July 29th, 2007 8:04 PM

Ugh, I hate that thing. I'll use it if I must, but can Cradily work?

Shiraishi July 29th, 2007 8:23 PM

Para-flinching togekiss? It makes a real nice sweeper too ;/

Anti July 29th, 2007 8:27 PM

Haven't you read any of the above posts? This is for 3rd gen! Anyways, I came up with a cradily moveset. How's this:

[email protected]
Calm Nature
EVs: I suck with EV spreads
~Amnesia
~HP Grass
~Recover/Ingrain
~Substitute

This a good special wall MS? Help is greatly appriciated. Thanks everyone.

Ichida July 29th, 2007 8:28 PM

The problem with Probopass is that it has two 4x weaknesses. Even with its high defense, a STABbed Close Combat or Earthquake from a good sweeper is probably going to OHKO it.

Anti July 29th, 2007 8:31 PM

Urgh...This is 3rd gen...I'm so tired of saying that...Is the Cradily moveset good? I need help with the EVs and probably the moveset too. Toxic could replace substitute i think. Would that work?

sanjay120 July 30th, 2007 4:27 AM

Um, Regice?

Yeah. Regice.

genus July 30th, 2007 7:07 AM

Milotic and Vaporeon.

Vaporeon schools.

Modest
252 hp/120 special attack/136 special defense
Item:Leftovers
Surf/Toxic/Wish/Acid Armor

It could learn acid armor last gen, right? If not, go for Ice Beam instead.

Yeah, but sadly, Probopass has a 4x weakness to Ground, and Fighting, and most sweepers carry around an Earthquake

Azonic July 30th, 2007 7:10 AM

Thats why there's Magnet Rise...

Sweepers have higher speed than Probopass starting from today :(

Azonic July 30th, 2007 7:39 AM

When pigs fly...

Probopass just switches out.

Smarties-chan July 30th, 2007 7:52 AM

Okay, people, back on topic. This is not a discussion about Probopass or even the same generation Probopass is in. Besides, Probopass is a special wall, not a physical wall so it's only natural that physical sweepers will be able to take it down.

And Cradily with Amnesia can make a decent special wall, but I'd really suggest Calmcune for special walling and general tanking:

Suicune @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
Bold Nature
EVs: 252 HP, 212 Defense, 44 Sp.Attack

- Surf/Roar
- Ice Beam/Roar
- Rest
- Calm Mind

Azonic July 30th, 2007 8:43 AM

There's barely any difference between the 2 stats on Probo.

I hate Roar-Cune.

Well thanks for that piece of enlightening input. =P Anyways, the difference between Probopass' walling opportunities is twofold: first off, Fighting and Ground moves have their strongest moves (Earthquake and Close Combat) on the physical side. Second, Sandstorm's auxiliary effect (Boosting the SDef of all Rock types) makes all the difference. I have to agree that Probopass isn't that good for walling (courtesy of the worst type combination ever. >_<) but it's a decent Skarm trap and can do some special walling while backed by Sandstorm. Fortunately, Electrolevitate covers at least one of the double weaks. It basically gets outshone by Magnezone, though. End of discussion.

I'd personally want some SDef on Suicune if it's going to special wall (As protection from random Thunders while you set up) but EVs aren't my strong suit, so meh...also, since this is 3rd gen you should also remember good old

Regice @ Leftovers
Trait: Clear Body
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
Thunderbolt
Ice Beam
Rest
Thunder Wave/Psych Up

So standard it hurts. Psych Up turns it into a beast of a Jynx counter and a general nuisance for CM/Acid Armor abusers. :3 Don't remember the EVs, but it's most likely max HP with the rest in Def and SAtk. Also, Articuno can be a lot of fun, although its type combo puts it at a bit of a disadvantage:

Articuno @ Leftovers
Trait: Pressure
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
EVs: Search me. I never get Cuno right. T_T
Ice Beam
Roar/Heal Bell
Rest
Reflect/Sleep Talk

Heal Bell + Sleep Talk = coolness, but it requires pokémon XD. Unfortunately, that flying type means it's got a double Rock weak, which isn't cool at all although Reflect eases that problem a little. :\ Toxic is also a possible filler in there somewhere, depends on what you need it to do. :3

I told you to get on topic. I repeat this is not a thread about Probopass, it's a discussion about 3rd generation special walls. Adding a short sentence about how you don't like a Suicune with Roar at the end of your post does not make your post on topic. As for the Probopass matter, Alter Ego has already stated why it's much better as a special wall than a physical wall so let's drop it now. If I see one more off-topic post from you, I'll have no choice but to warn you.

MKDS_PoKE July 30th, 2007 10:24 AM

Mantine works as well... :o

Anti July 30th, 2007 12:57 PM

Uh, okay. Thanks to the people who ACTUALLY stayed on topic. It's one thing if you wandered off topic but when both Smarties Kins and I said about a million times this is 3RD GEN. you ignored us. When I woke up and saw 23 responses I thought I'd have an answer to my problems, but didn't. Thanks to the people who actually helped. Here's where I'm at fault: Iforgot to mention I try not to use legendaries. I have an XD game and have caught Zapdos but not the other two. Still, I'd prefer no legends. I think I mentioned earlier my team already has a water type, so I'd prefer not to use mantine. If I used a legend, it woould be articuno as he's my fav legendary bird and strong at that. Would cradily (107 base special defense doubled after amnesia, better than regice at that point) still be a good Special wall? How about meganium? Or venusaur with light screen as an egg move? Just throwing some stuff out there. Respond if you are ACTUALLY responding to this. My sister put makeup and eye shadow on me this morning (I'm a guy) and this doesn't help my sour mood. Thanks again to all who ACTUALLY helped.
