Milotic movesets

I'm trying to come up with a good Milotic strategy. Is there anyone who's been kicking a lot of ass with their own Milotic? Please provide nature, EV distrubution, and moveset. I'd prefer something that actually maximizes its potential as a wall, maybe something that uses Mirror Coat if it's preferable.

Samson July 29th, 2007 7:54 PM

milotic always owns, whether it's mirror coat/recover milotic, or resttalk milotic. only real thing that takes it out is explosion or a couple swords dances/dragon dances.

genus July 29th, 2007 7:58 PM

Milotic can kick a lot of ass.

My Milotic:

Modest
Ev's: 252 hp, 252 defense, 4 special defense
Item: Flame Orb
Moveset: Hypnosis/Surf/Ice Beam/Recover

This is a pretty effective Millie...it doesn't wall other waters very well (I've had some long standoffs against the likes of Vaporeon and co). Just make sure yours has a high special attack iv if you're running a similar set.

Or, if you intend on a Mirror Coat Milotic:

Bold
Ev's: 252 hp, 252 defense, 4 special attack
Item: Leftovers
Moveset: Surf/Ice Beam/Mirror Coat/Recover

Using a flame orb on a set like this designed to bait punishment would be a bad idea. You'll need to have all hp you can get, since special users will be hitting you hard. And feeling it themselves since Milotic will just send it bouncing back to them.

Hope I helped, or at least confused you by not including the third (riskier) special sweeper set with Surf/Ice Beam/HP Ground/Recover.

Use:

[email protected] suck w. items but I'd use lefties
Bold Nature
EVs: I can't help with this one
~Rest
~Sleep Talk
~Surf
~Ice Beam
~or~
~Recover
~Mirror Coat
~Surf
~Ice Beam

Those seem to be common. Please correct me if I'm wrong but I think that's pretty good.

This is what I had in mind, except I was considering Aqua Ring over Ice Beam to maximize its survival. And yeah, I was considering Flame Orb to trigger its Marvel Scale, but it really is kind of risky.

genus July 29th, 2007 8:16 PM

As a rule of thumb, Aqua Ring is a no-no. In the turn you took to activate Aqua Ring, you could have gotten off a Recover (which is a must for Milotic). It nullifies the Burn damage if you turn it into a double wall with Marvel Scale, but leaves you exposed after a good pounding. If you're that intent on getting a 1/12 regen from Aqua Ring each turn, have Vaporeon Baton Pass one over to you, along with an Acid Armor or two and, if you're in need of health, Wish.

By the way, Vappy is pretty awesome for supporting Milotic late game, when you've taken out nasty Electric sweepers like Electvire. Against special attacking grasses, Vaporeon can take a hit and, giving its high special attack, probably do a fair deal of damage with ice beam.

Edit: whoops, misread that.

Milotic needs a second attack move to deal with grasses and vicious dragons like Garchomp and Salamence.

Hello Ichida, and remember, I WANT TO BE IN DS, anyway, here:

Milotic @ Leftovers
Nature: Bold
Trait: Marvel Scale
EV's: 148 HP / 240 Def / 120 SpAtk
-Surf
-Ice Beam
-Recover
-Hypnosis

Physical walls. Takes hits excellently. Ice Beam and Surf for dragons and surf gets stab. Recovery is an good move to heal, and Hypnosis to put to sleep, even if their is sleep clause, it still is good.

Ichida July 29th, 2007 8:23 PM

Hmmm, alright, so scrap Aqua Ring.

Leftovers, Surf, Ice Beam, Mirror Coat, Recover. Sound good? Just trying to decide on the ideal nature and EV spread.

I've used Hypnosis on Milotic in the past, and I've wasted too many turns on missed attempts.

Anti July 29th, 2007 8:29 PM

I like the moveset but someone more experienced probably has da best EV spread and all that stuff.

It still sounds good to me. Btw, if you used hypnosis in adv, it goost an accuracy boost in d/p. Milotic also has these moves for options as well:

-Aqua Ring
-Haze
-Light Screen

EDIT: The ev spread I gave you is what you should use btw

Ichida July 29th, 2007 8:44 PM

70% still isn't reliable. The only risk that dangerous I take is Focus Blasting Alakazam, and even then I have Focus Sash on it to give it another try.

Ah, ok. Well anyway, would you like to battle?

Ichida July 29th, 2007 8:45 PM

If I'm still conceptualizing a new team member, I'm obviously not ready. <.<;

If you need anything, ask me, I also have a wide variety of competitive pokemon, and amd willing to trade for something good. Also, the new 4th Gen Compiled Guides is in the editing stages as of now, so be aware that it will be up soon...

Berserk Gene July 29th, 2007 8:59 PM

milotic is a killer. i highly reccomend you get your hands on a feebas w/hypnosis. (i have eggs, pm me)

hypnosis
recover
surf
ice beam

using this ev spread: 84 HP / 252 Def / 12 Spd / 106 SAtk / 56 SDef
It'll pack quite a punch with surf. FURTHER elevate spc. defense, and give it some physical defense as well. The extra EV's in speed will sometimes help you outrun dragon dancers. Though i tend to BP milotic some speed since i'm just a dirty bastard like that.

one ice beam sends garchomp, dragonite, salamence, flygon, altaria..etc. packing. dead. one shot.

Hypnosis + recover is a lovely combo. Milotic has the defenses to risk hypnosises low accuracy. Electivires aren't much of a threat when they are 2 or 3 KO'd by stab'd surf, you can put them to sleep, and recover...Since they move first, they'll thunder punch you, which usually can 2-3HKO milotic. Use hypnosis, then recover, surf like there is no tomorrow.

I already own all 493, so there isn't anything I need besides strategic advice.

And I already have Feebas hatchlings with Hypnosis, and hatchlings with Mirror Coat.

MKDS_PoKE July 29th, 2007 9:20 PM

But what are it's nature/iv's and etc...?

Ichida July 29th, 2007 9:22 PM

Doesn't matter; I can just re-breed until I get a good one.

But I really want to use Mirror Coat, because I know that it can do some uber damage if I toss it out against a special sweeper, especially if someone tries to bolt it and it survives. That equals pwnage.

Ichida July 30th, 2007 1:34 PM

Alright, so I'm going with Surf, Ice Beam, Mirror Coat, and Recover. What nature and EV spread would be ideal for this?

Milotic @ Leftovers
Nature: Bold
Trait: Marvel Scale
EV's: 148 HP / 240 Def / 120 SpAtk

Ichida July 30th, 2007 1:36 PM

I don't think it was necessary to mention the item or trait. <.<;

~Mithos~ July 30th, 2007 1:37 PM

I got surf, ice beam, mirror coat, recover. usually works well for me.

EDIT: you already decided, you decided mine aswell XD

Milotic @ Leftovers
Trait: Marvel Scale
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 252 SAtk
-Recover
-Surf
-Ice Beam
-Toxic

This maximizes its potential, believe me.

Toxic is real useless this gen. Thus, the set I gave is the best atm.

Alakazam17 July 30th, 2007 3:51 PM

I am getting ready to train one of these. These are the EV's I had planned:

84 HP
252 Def
116 SA
56 SD
