OK, so my wifi conection is perfect, whenever i try to trade, it ususally discconetes me 3-5 times until the trade goes through, but my connection has the 4 green bars(perfect connection)

today, it kept dissconnecting me and it wouldnt even let me battle,

any advice on how to fix this?

raynelogens March 22nd, 2009 9:32 AM

Wireless

So in Diamond/Pearl when you get to the continue/new screen screen the game searches for a wireless link, (the power light blinks) allowing it to link with the Wii. My Platinum doesn't do that. Is my game messed up???

Zebra Thunderhead March 22nd, 2009 9:37 AM

This best belongs in Comp & Tech section.

Mobile Tsk March 22nd, 2009 10:33 AM

This has nothing to do with computers so I'm not sure how helpful I can be, but it maintains the same compatibility and method of connecting as DP so it should do the same thing that your Diamond/Pearl game did.

Ru-Kun March 22nd, 2009 12:40 PM

Okay I have a question. Is a modem and Wired Router the same thing? Also if I hook the Wii up to a wired router will the DS be able to get on wifi through the Wii?

Ninja Tree March 22nd, 2009 12:50 PM

Yes, this belongs in Diamond/Pearl. Do you have to get to a certain point before you are able to connect to Wii?

Fallujah March 24th, 2009 5:28 PM

My computer connects to the internet with a wireless network, but my DS won't pick up the network, how can I fix that?

It will connect to the Wii like normal. Whenever there is a wireless link with the Wii, "Connect to Wii" will still show up in the menu. I tested it myself.

It depends on the modem, but most of the time, they are different. Routers usually allow you to connect multiple devices to the Internet. Hooking the Wii up to the wired network will not allow the DS to connect to the Internet. If all you have is a wired network, then you should look in to getting the Wi-Fi USB adapter, but I don't think they sell that anymore. You could also look into getting a wireless router if you wanted to, but that is a little more expensive than the adapter.

Do you know if your network is encrypted? Hidden networks and WPA encrypted networks will not show up on the list of networks. (I could be wrong about the WPA, though.) If your network is hidden, you will need to get the SSID (basically, the name of the wireless network) from your computer. You can usually hover your mouse over the wireless icon in the bottom left to get the SSID. Once you get the SSID, you need to use the manual set-up to enter the SSID. Everything else you can just leave set to "Auto."

chamo-chan March 25th, 2009 5:02 PM

Hey, I have a question about wifi.

I have a wireless router (d-link, and it's compatible with wi-fi), but I don't have a WEP key (I have some other thing, I think it was WAP or WPR, or something like that...)

How do you change it to a WEP key?

Also, keep in mind, there are 3 computers that use the wireless router for internet: my laptop, my sister's laptop (both are Windows Vista) and my Uncle's laptop (windows XP )

omg92606 March 27th, 2009 3:45 PM

need help with hotspots

i couldn't find a wifi help thread =/

I can't find a hotspot compatible with the DS. Since the USB connector is discontinued i don't know what to do in terms of getting online w/o getting wifi.

Is there any list of hotspots that work with the DS?

Jack_Atlas March 27th, 2009 4:07 PM

when u turn on ur game, click wifi settings, then add wireless server.

omg92606 March 27th, 2009 4:48 PM

i know who to set up a connection, but when i test it the game says it can't connect.

weirdly using two different DS's i was getting two different error codes.

Speed March 27th, 2009 4:59 PM

Do you even have a wireless router/USB? If you don't your DS can't connect to Wi Fi.

Jack_Atlas March 27th, 2009 5:07 PM

.....g p onto nintendo's website ( I don't want to get in trouble by posting the site. just add a .com @ the end) and go to support. enter your error code, and it will tell you whats wrong. to be honest, im supriesd a mod hasnt moved this yet....

hank jones March 27th, 2009 7:03 PM

Yeah!

When my wi-fi is down, and i have a trade, i always go to a coffee shop. almost all of the major shops will have free wi-fi.

omg92606 March 27th, 2009 8:00 PM

i've gone to free wifi places, and my ds won't connect when i test the connection.
it works when i'm using my friends wifi, just not at any free wifi place.

My wifi used to work, right? A few couple of months ago... I can't tell you how long it's been, since I just started playing pearl again after several months.

So when I try to connect it gives me the error 52100. (What happens exactly is that the little bars (Idk what they're called) are red for a few seconds, then they turn green and stay green for about a minute then turn back to red.) So I went to the Nintendo Wifi website but that didn't help at all.

I've tried resetting my router, going to the router website (You know, the one where you put the IP in your adress bar?) and turning off the firewall and allowing my DS's MAC address. None of that has helped.

I tried upgrading the firmware for my router, but when I try to open the file to do so, it gives me this thing like, "Windows could not find a program to open this file with", or something to that effect.

So help me out guys. (If it helps, I'm using a Vista and my router is a Westell 327W/B90-327W15-06)

I have the same problem, though I've had it only for a short time. The connection worked before, but yesterday it disconnected when I was on wi-fi and hasn't been able to connect ever since. Error code is 52100, none of the fixing methods are working. Can anyone help us out?

If you're talking about DS, it won't work. If you're talking about a laptop, well, you need the password.

My Adventure to Get a Friend Code

I posted this here because I basically had an adventure and lesson in technology today to get a friend code so I can soon start trading and battling on Platinum.

I use to with Diamond and Pearl a long time ago be able to connect as my router used only a WEP key. My father, a network security expert, suggested I move my security setting to WPA. Which is great and wonderful, except I could not connect to Wi-Fi. Some research got me to find a way around it using a Nintendo Wi-Fi USB adapter.

Searching my local gamestop I get the expertise of teenage workers telling me that Nintendo discontinued their sale of it. Sure enough they were correct as I searched the Nintendo site they were discontinued. A suggestion on the site says you use your own router. Great and wonderful except I want to keep my security thank you, but still want to trade and battle.

Commited to find a solution I just did a google search of "Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Adapter". Found that Gamestop.com had an old page, that let's you search for it used for $20.

I have it today. But a drawback... I have to knockdown my firewall in order to go on Wi-Fi. So I am going to just continue my offline quest until I get my 8 badges. Then play with the trading and battling later!

What a day, but I now have a friend code and can get on to wi-fi!

twocows April 10th, 2009 1:58 PM

WPA is a far better standard, but WEP is sufficient for most situations. I say this from experience; in most instances, I can crack a WEP-encrypted router in a few hours. WPA takes far longer to crack, and in most instances, it's just not worth it.

However, it's better to have at least some security on your router than none (unless you're Mrs. Roberts or her daughter and plan on playing games with people). Don't disable your security altogether if it comes to that, just revert it to WEP.

In my experience, firewalls and router security serve two different purposes. Firewalls serve to alert you of malicious outgoing connections (trojans trying to send out information, viruses looking for updates), and router security serves to protect your internet from the jerk next door who's trying to leech off you. If you're a savvy computer user, the firewall is optional, but letting your neighbor leech your internet is annoying no matter who you are. Taking your firewall down is the better option, just make sure you ramp up your other security measures (get a good antivirus, use Firefox with ABP or another browser with Privoxy, and don't go to suspicious sites).

Did you see the post before yours, or are you just posting for the +1?

Anyway, you should be able to configure an exception in your firewall so that you can still connect to Nitendo WFC. Have you checked the firewall settings out?

Reina April 18th, 2009 7:05 PM

Ah, I have a big DS wifi problem. Hope you guys can help me out.. and moreso, that I'm in the right section! Okay, here goes:

I use WPA type, so obviously when I try to use it on DS nothing will work.. so once I changed it to WEP, okay.. for some reason on my computer on the connections, when you enter your network key WEP doesn't appear as a type, so it won't work like that; but on the DS it works then.

So basically I have an offline computer but online DS. Its extremely hard to switch hard back and forth (time consuming!), and just for wifi on DS wouldn't be worth it, especially considering it puts my computer and my parents' computer online during the wifi.

Is there any known solution, like.. I don't know, a way to set up a second connection, or get my computer to accept WEP? Is that possible, even? I have a netgear router if that helps. Any suggestions, tips, or advice is appreciated!

I need to find an inexspensive Wi-Fi Router that is Compatable with Wii, Laptops(PC), and DS.

My First one(Now broken) Worked with Wii and DS, but not Laptops.
I had a thread thread then (Points to signature)

The Second and Current one works with Wii and Laptops, but not my DS. This puts a hamper on my desire to reopen my trade thread.

A link to Ebay or Amazon would do, whetehr via PM or Post.

HoneyBubbles April 27th, 2009 1:55 PM

To be honest, I know almost nothing about computers. I'm not even sure if this question belongs here, but...
I'm having a little problem with my internet connection. I can get on the internet just fine, but I can't upload any videos or large pictures to the web. I had to save my signature in a .jpg format just so I coud get it on photobucket. This problem started towards the end of August last year. Can anyone tell me what's wrong?

Rukario April 27th, 2009 2:38 PM

your first step is restart everything: modem > router > pc (power back up in that order)

then if you still can't upload, call your ISP's support line to make sure its not there service..

if its not, then you'll need to start on troubleshooting it from your machine.. so post back if you need to dig deeper (after the above is tried)

HoneyBubbles April 27th, 2009 6:01 PM

Thanks a lot! C:
I'll give this a try asap.
Restarting the modem sounds a little complicated so I better ask my brother for help.

Okay, so, me and my friend are both trying to battle each other in Platinum. Whenever we make any kind of communication to each other, ie. Trades, Battles, Voice Chat w/e, whoever goes up to the person who hosts always conks out with a 86420 error. I checked the main Nintendo support, they say stuff about firewalls, although MY internet works fine with diamond and my flash cart platinum against other friends. And my friend has turned off his firewall so that's out of the question. Nintendo has crap explanations and I really don't want to ring them.

Halp, plz?

Wish May 18th, 2009 5:36 PM

Okay, I just bought a new Desktop, Gateway LX6810. It came with NO wi-fi, so I also bought the Linksys Compact Wireless-G USB adapter to solve that. After installing it, it found my router. When I clicked Internet Explorer, the Internet was SLOW. Even for a first run, no ordinary webpage should take that long. I also tried many other popular websites, which loaded VERY slowly or not at all. I was thinking it was the USB adapter, and was thinking whether or not to return it and get a better one.

And yeah, I placed my laptop in the same place and got very fast connection. :\

Rukario May 18th, 2009 5:52 PM

most likely the usb wifi.. get an proper one.. internal card one.. or just use a cat5 cable between PC and router (best).

Probably here somebody can help me. I have a annoying problem with my WLAN connection.
How should i explain it? Easily: My WLAN connection seems to be not that stable and has sporadic interruptions. There are no signs before that interruption happens, browsing is fast etc.. I can fix every time this problem with simply "Repair" function (restart WLAN connection), though, its annoying. What to do?

Wi-Fi and router-related help

Ok, I was wondering, I have been wanting to get on WiFi for a very long time. I used to have the USB cord connector so I can do it. But, I haven't been able to get on since I lost it. I was wondering if I could connect it to the computer and still WiFi. I just want to get on wifi on my Platinum and battle other trainers.

If you want to access WiFi, you either need a router with wireless capability or the Nintendo USB WiFi plugin for your computer. You should also be able to access WiFi in a public location, such as at a McDonalds or Starbucks. The DS should configure the access point automatically IIRC.

The USB connector was discontinued due to a lawsuit by a bunch of jerks.

I can almost guarantee McDonalds will have WiFi. Also, like I said, if you have a wireless router, you can connect to that.

WiFi USB Problems

Alright, firstly I think that this is the right forum, it's technology, right?

Anyway, I've been having some problems with my WiFi USB lately, for some reason I can'tconnect to it at all with any game.
Here's how it normally goes:

1. I fully install WiFi onto my brand new Windows Vista, Dell 1425 Inspiron Notebook
2. Vista asks me to restart, which I do
3. I grant access to my DS Lite
4. I preform a connection test, I get full 3 bars, but then, without warning it dropsdown to 0 bars.

This happens all the time, I'm wondering what's preventing the DS from gaining access, because it's getting full bars, but then I get nothing, and i'm like 5 centimeters away from the thing.
And I've got my Windows Firewall turned off, I do have McAffe, would I also need to turn that off?

Any help would be great

Captain Fabio July 10th, 2009 9:09 AM

I have had that problem too brotlov.
I have fixed it however.
  • Uninstall the program
  • Download VERSION 1.7 (newest)
  • Run and install

Only now mine works, maybe that will do it for yours.

Skullking17 July 10th, 2009 10:07 PM

I hope you guys can help me with this. My DS lite can't connect to my houses wifi when I search for an accsess point my wifi doesn't show up. My router is set to brodcast it's SSID. It is also not on nintendos list of incopatable routers. It also doesn't work if I enter my information in manualy. I don't know what is wrong and nintendo isn't good at explaining things. Please help.

.Wolfie-kun. July 11th, 2009 9:50 AM

Right, my problem is that this new router that my dad bought does not work with my DS.

The last router we had worked perfectly with my DS after a little tweaking, but we received this new one as a way to apparently stay with the service (Damn you AOL).

So now this router is using WPA settings whereas the DS can only use WEP as people know. As soon as I change the router to WEP settings my internet does not work at all and my DS still
doesn't connect.

I'm slowly moving closer to ending up getting one of those WiFi adapter things (Not quite sure what they are tbh).

Is that my only solution?

I really want to get WiFing on Diamond and Platinum!

It's probably listed on the router somewhere. It is most likely either a 26 character long hexadecimal string (numbers 0 - 9 and letters A - F) or a 10 digit number; look around on your router for it. If you can't find it on your router, you'll need to flash the router bios.

I don't believe that device is supported by them anymore due to a lawsuit. Do other USB devices still work? Also, if you have a wireless router, you should be able to connect to that without having to route through your computer.

Yes, you do. Try going to the link that is displayed on the sticker of your wireless router. Login and you should be able to find your WEP key that way.

For some reason, the Nintendo wifi USB is a strange one.
It works when I FIRST install it, but when I turn off my computer, or restart it, it dies.
The only way to make it work again, I have to uninstall and install again.

How annoying.

I am having some problems,
i have wireless internet (but not with this computer)
and it has a password on it and its security is WEP-AESK
or something like that, and i can connect my ps3, wii, laptop and pretty much everything.
except, my DS. as it only supports WEP.
Is there anyway to have wifi on my DS without changing the password security?
as WEP is too basic and unreliable.

P.S i know the password so relax, i am not hacking. ;)

Captain Fabio July 23rd, 2009 11:59 AM

@Solebro: I don't think there is any way around it :/
Unless you get a Wifi pen with no encryption.

Or if someone knows another way...
Hope you can solve it.

twocows July 23rd, 2009 12:41 PM

Sorry. Nintendo demonstrated a complete lack of foresight when deciding what encryption protocol to support; even when they made the DS, problems were already cropping up with WEP, and yet they refused to support superior encryption methods like WPA. You're out of luck, I'm afraid.

donavannj July 23rd, 2009 2:52 PM

Unless Nintendo offers to flash the BIOS of all DS systems to support it. Which will probably never happen.

I have a problem. Since the DS isn't compatible with WPA security, I want to change it to WEP. Problem is, I don't know how. I tried going on Nintendo's Wifi Support thingy but my Router wasn't listed there. It's a SMC SMC8014W-G router. Can someone please help??

Oh, and don't post replys to this telling me that WEP is retarded or whatever, I know they security isn't as good as WPA, I just want to change it.

Nintendo Wi-fi

Alright, I recently upgraded my internet, but it's unfortunately non-WEP. I've attempted to contact Nintendo, only to be met with "You have reached us outside of our operating hours." What I need to know is if I have to use WEP for Nintendo wifi. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

nohakman August 17th, 2009 6:13 PM

i dont believe you need WEP to connect.
If WEP is just a password you dont

.Seth August 17th, 2009 6:43 PM

Well, if you don't want anyone mooching off of your internet connection, you're fine without WEP.
But, if you have the installation disc that came with the router, use that and set a good password.

twocows August 17th, 2009 9:12 PM

You have to use WEP or have an unencrypted connection to use Nintendo WiFi, as far as I know.

Ok, I hope I'm posting this in the right section.
I have windows xp, I had the wifi disc downloaded and it was working fine, well I got a laptop and left this desktop, some how it got deleted off, but any ways, when I go to download it again, I get the message "internet connection sharing error .6.
Any help please??

Okay so I JUST got Wifi last night, so I could partake in Pokemon wifi battles.
My problem is I can get to the wifi room and see people I have exchanged Friend Codes with...
But when I talk to them it Attempts to load it or whatever it is doing then the error code 86420 pops up.
i looked it up, it says its prolly the fire wall, otherwise it will just go away by its self.
(I tried turning off my firewall, and all thos other steps nintendo said to do...)

This morrning i FINALLY got a battle, I battled this guy a 4 maybe 5 times.
now its doing it again, and i mean for the past 6 hours ive been tring virtally non-stop and it wont work, except for that one time.
I also tryed last night for about 8 hours and I just cannot get it to work...
It just recently worked for one more battle, now its back to the error code.

When i talk to the person it does the error code, when they talk to me, it says ____ failed to responed...

ANY suggestions would help!

Please PM/VM me. thanks.

YOUR firewall? Try turning off the firewall of the PC that administrates the router.

alienXL September 1st, 2009 9:02 AM

Erm...

I know this might seem a bit simple and stupid but take the power out of your router and then start it up again.

If not on the router settings (which should be under 192.168.0.1 in your web browser on a computer on the network.) check that your DS is a registered device on the network otherwise there might be some security conflicts that could be blocking incoming connections.

Other than that cant think of anything... never had this problem. Sorry

i need help i got my router 2 days ago and my neighbour put a password on my router. and i don't have a computer is there any way to take it off

Dialga812 September 5th, 2009 2:02 AM

I need help i just bought a usb connector for my ds and i can't seem to connect in the internet saying to confirm my connection setting and internet availability and the error code was 52203 please help coz i really need it...many thanks

Gerri Shin September 5th, 2009 7:11 AM

@ ktn: If the router is yours, and it's using your internet, then your neighbour shouldn't have any right to put a password on it unless you asked them to password it. If the case is that it's using their internet then you will have to ask them to change it. If it is your internet, your router and they put a password on it, tell them to remove the password or you will alert the authorities, because what they have done is illegal.

@ Dialga812: That error code is because the USB connector is conflicting with your firewall. Here's a link for more info. ~link

How to stop Sprint MiFi from blocking uTorrent?

I recently started using a new wifi card and now uTorrent keeps showing an error message. It says "Not connectable. A firewall/router is limiting your network traffic. You need to open up a port so others can connect to you." Does anyone know how to make it recognize that the port is open?

I'm using windows xp home sp3.
The firewall I use is NetDefender.
The new wifi card is Sprint Novatel Wireless MiFi 2200 Mobile Hotspot.

I tried what it said in the uTorrent section of this thread http://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=134506 but that didn't help.

I used the firewall port scanner to check the one uTorrent says it's using and the firewall shows that it's open. Is there something I can do with the settings here? http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/9462/portforwarding.png

New Wireless And Old Wi-Fi Question??

Ok, I just got a new wireless connection, I had dial-up before, well now if any one could help me figure out how to use my usb wi-fi with it would be great.
Thanks in advance!!

Apple Inc. September 8th, 2009 8:18 PM

Well we will need to know a model and who makes it.
Also I believe this might fit into the Wi-Fi and Router related help thread. but dont quote me on that.

Has anyone had success with computer hosted Ad-Hoc networks for DS wifi?

~RNC~ September 9th, 2009 2:05 PM

It's the aircard wireless, it just hooks into my usb port on my laptop.
Also if some one could suggest a router to buy to work with this.

For a while I have been trying to download Darkrai in my Euro Pokemon Platinum, however I reckon this is a problem with the DS.
My home connection has the wrong security settings so I have gone to hotspots to connect. I have found viable hotspots, with good reception and Nintendo WiFi support. I'm fairly sure all information I've entered is correct.
However, when I try to test the connection in the WiFi settings, everything appears fine at first, then the reception bars go to 0 and I fail to connect. I cannot remember the error number and can't get it at this moment, but I remember the message as being something like "You have no IP address". The IP address is set to auto, so I think I should be given one automatically or something. If I need to enter one, I don't know what it is.
I think I remember something ages ago about some number on the bottom of my DS, however I can't see one on the DS itself, and if it's on the sticker on the bottom I'm probably screwed, seeing as that no longer exists.

For the record, I am using an Euro DS and Platinum, and my DS is an original one. I think the hotspot I was trying to connect to was provided by "The Cloud". Also, all this is in the UK.

Please could someone help, there are very few days left to download (I'm lazy I know), all help would be appreciated, and don't hesitate to tell me if I'm doing something stupid.

Zet September 12th, 2009 6:12 PM

I'm not sure what your problem is but have you tried using the nintendo wifi's website for help?

Yes, I have. It is no help, and the European forums are down, so I can't ask there.
Bleh, it's the last day of the download, I'll just try it, maybe it was having a bad day or something.

Kazukii September 13th, 2009 1:18 AM

Wifi on my DS just doesn't work. I've done everything I can think of including taking all security off the router and it still won't work.. so I've just given up with it.

Which sort of DS do you have? Cause when I was trying to get on I saw someone using a DS Lite and it looked like they did it fine (if that's what they were doing).

Kazukii September 13th, 2009 1:40 AM

I have the DS original. I got it the day it came out in the UK :)

I have original too - maybe they just don't do WiFi properly.

Kazukii September 13th, 2009 1:56 AM

They don't. I've been to several cafe's that offer free wi-fi and it won't connect to them either.

No, I mean the DS type. Maybe you could borrow a DS Lite?

donavannj September 13th, 2009 2:09 AM

It's also possible that the antennas are broken... though it's more likely that the original DS units didn't have built-in WiFi.

WiFi help - I'm desperate!

Hiya... I'm not completely sure this is the right place, but I'm so sick of failed trades and I don't even dare to imagine how things are going to be once I start wanting to battle people on WiFi! I seem to be able to trade and connect fine to some people, but to most my connection actually times out and one of us gets disconnected. This happens so often I can surely say it's not a problem on their side. With the few people I can connect to, it works absolutely fine.

I'm using a Belkin N Wireless router, the firewall is turned off, I've changed the connection speed to 20MHz thinking that might be making a difference.. but it did no good.. I've also tried to check my DS details and manually put in IP adresses, gateways etc but still no improvement.

I don't know what else to do and considering buying one of those wireless USB adaptor things.. however I heard bad things about them too .. -_-'

Again, connection and trading works fine with some people, with most people it does not work at all and ends up with disconnecting either the one responding to the trade, or me if I respond to someone elses trade and tells me "failed to respond".

Adding info: I'm in the UK, strangely enough it works perfectly in the GTS in game. lol It's just when connecting to certain other people in trades etc that it wont work.. -_-' And I'm normally always next to the router, and there's no mention on the nintendo WiFi sites about my router being neither compatible nor incompatible..

Zetlian2-kinra September 16th, 2009 4:40 AM

goto www.nintendowifi.com and see if it's on the list of compatible/Usable but doesen't disconnect routers
if it's not, buy a nintendo DS wifi USB

I have gone through the same thing as you, so the USB is the only way.

Mukkamoto September 16th, 2009 4:54 AM

You have to make sure all the Info is put in. When you connect to your wireless router, and the test is successful, It normally should work. I would suggest re-installing your router, and try again. Then when trading try to keep as close as possible to your router.

If this doesn't work contact your manufacturer and they may help. The wifi USB isn't the best, I've always preferred normal routers to those.
(wouldn't this thread belong in computer & technology?)

Pokémon Ranger ✩ Moriarty September 16th, 2009 5:05 AM

How far away are you when you're attempting to connect to the router? Mine is weird - if I sit in my bed it can't pick up the router at all, if I stand by my door I get two signal bars, but if I stand right next to the router my DS even denies its existence. (It's a juggling act when I'm trying to battle Dx - I get the same 'failed to respond' message).
