The steps for Windows 7 are the same as what Albo-One said. Albo-One just neglected to tell you how to get to Device Manager. You can get there by clicking "Start", then right-clicking on "Computer", and then selecting "Manage" on the menu that pops up, and then click "Continue" on the security warning message that pops up. The Computer Management window will pop up, and in the pane on the left-hand side of the window, there will be something that says "Device Manager". Double-click that to enter it, and then follow Albo-One's instructions.

Actually, thinking about it, I don't think this is the way to solve it at all. Is your copy of Windows 7 the Home Premium edition? I can't really help you there because Home Premium loses some functionality compared to Windows 7 Professional, which is the only version I have access to.

You would have to do it from the laptop that is having the issues. Try Googling your problem. I do think that Windows 7 Home Premium might not support WEP protocol secured wireless networks, but I'm not sure.

Anybody who has a DSi XL will probably have internet problems. I have a DSi XL and the internet doesn't work. It's not because of the network because my bro. has a dsi original and the internet works fine on it. I suggest buying a nintendo wifi adapter off eBay.

Sylveon January 29th, 2011 1:59 AM

Sorry if this has been asked and resolved before. Why won't my DSi connect to my Sky Broadband router. I have changed it from WAP to WEP as it wouldn't connect on WAP.. now everytime I enter the WEP code it says some error code.

I did this before on my DSi & DSiXL and it worked! Why is it not working now?
So frustrated.

The DS doesn't support WAP as far as I am aware, so you are a little stuck there.

To further clarify:

Original DS only supports WEP.
DSLite only supports WEP.
DSi supports WEP and WPA.
DSi XL supports WEP and WPA.
DS games only support WEP so that they can be compatible with the DSLite and the original DS. As far as I'm aware.

So I was right. ;)

When the member only asked 'DS' I thought they were implying the only had a DS/lite.

That's what one would hope, but just in case they were a person who called all the systems in the DS family simply a DS, I wanted to clarify. ;)

So you're saying you pay a cell phone company for something like "mobile broadband"? If that's the case, I'm afraid you're stuck offline with your DS unless you go to a place that has a WiFi hotspot like McDonald's. Those cards use the cell phone networks and only work for the computer they are plugged into. They do not work as wireless "hotspots" that other devices besides the computer it's plugged into can connect to.

Compared to WPA, it isn't very secure at all. I know people who can crack WEP in two minutes, but need substantially more time to crack a WPA network. However, you can counter this lack of security by, after setting up your devices on it, turning off the broadcasting of your SSID and by using a MAC Address whitelist filter to control what devices have access to your network, but I wouldn't recommend trying this unless you know what you're doing when you're configuring your router.

King Gumball February 13th, 2011 2:50 AM

Hi, Ive been trying to get my DS to connect to my wi-fi for months now, but it just wont. All my other consoles connect fine except the DS. I think it might be the WEP Key but idk where to find it. Apparently I need to type in the IP Address in the Web Search bar in a browser, but the page cannot be found. My ID is 192.168.1.8 . I don't know what is wrong :/ And my Nintendo USB connector wont work as well x;

Rai February 20th, 2011 6:43 PM

So I installed my router with no problem whatsoever a while ago. After a few days it stopped emitting the signal so I uninstalled it and tried reinstalling it. Now it won't install at all .-. It freezes and the progress bar won't move for hours. When I take out the router from the usb, the bar starts moving again but than it says application error :x It worked fine! ><

.Wolfie-kun. February 22nd, 2011 6:28 AM

Right I have an annoying problem.

I've had a Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Adapter for almost a year now (I bet you're thinking "Here we go..." XD)

And up to now it was working fine. When I heard about the shiny legendary beasts on Wi-Fi I thought I'd go and collect them. Here is where it decides to play up. So I decide to uninstall and reinstall, and it installs the drivers etc and then it either says I'm not connected to the internet, when I clearly am, or that the adapter is not connected when it's plugged in and flashing it's green light at me.

Then when I try the internet sharing method, I get told that it 'Cannot Complete the Setup Wizard' saying that it cannot find my network hardware. Well if that's the case, how am I still connected to the internet?

I'm tempted to do a system restore but I don't know when this problem originated.

Any ideas?

Meduza March 10th, 2011 1:28 PM

"Please configure your connection settings under the Internet option in the System Settings. For help, visit support.nintendo.com"

This is the message I get everytime I try to access my Wi-Fi though "NINTENDO WFC SETTINGS" on my DSi.

I'm trying to get into the GTS and it isn't letting me.

Is this happening to nayone else or is this just me? And either way, how do I fix it?

P.S; I use the Nintendo W-Fi USB Connector and it's worked just fine in the past.

Meduza March 10th, 2011 1:52 PM

That must of been the problem. It's working now. You're a life saver. :D

Toasty.Toast March 10th, 2011 7:38 PM

Alright, heres the deal. I recently set up my wifi to go with my ds. however, I am having problems staying connected with people, and when I battle, and more recently, trade, I get error code 91010. Which nintendo says is a "friend Roster problem" the link to said problem is here...

(i cant post the link, i am not high enough rank, if your really interested, go to support.nintendo(dot)com)

so, any idea what i can do?

and yes, i did follow the instuctions given.

Toasty.Toast March 11th, 2011 10:12 AM

Most of the time, I am literally 2 feet away from the router (the router being next to my home computer for a wired connection). I am also in ther next room over, where i get 2 to 3 bars of connection. But for some reason the problem fixed itself when I registered more Friend codes. Hmmm..... Thanks for the help anyway.

Is it hopeless? Please help!

I'm trying to fix my nintendo DS to work with wifi. If you could help I will be forever grateful, and if I actually get my wifi to work I'll send you an item or something ;)
SO
I live in dorms where to wifi is locked. I have tried using the wifi in the public library and cafes, but since public places usually have a terms of service page where you have to 'accept' on a normal computer, my DS can't access the wifi. I get full bars, and then an error message when I actually try to connect. Is there any way around this? Does anybody know of places with publics wifi that don't have terms and conditions pages that screw up the DS?

I would buy an wifi usb connector in a heartbeat, but apparently they don't work with macs. Anybody know of ones that do?

Anybody have experience with this? Is there anything I can do, or am I doomed to be forever offline?
Thanks!

Just keep trying random places until you find a place that doesn't have the TOS, or upgrade to a DSi, they support WPA.

Wine is a program that emulates Windows in Unix (IE Linux and OSX). Its a free download, but it isn't perfect. Its real hit and miss. Programs are more likely to work if they don't depend on other applications in the Windows environment, like how some programs require Microsoft .NET Framework.

You can try it / read more bout it here: http://www.winehq.org/

Oh, good idea, thanks! I found a cafe that works for now, but I will def. look into this in the future.

There's not a whole lot we can do to help you with out more information. Do you know what type of encryption if any you are using on the network? The DS is an older device, and does not support the newer encryption methods. It also doesn't support N WiFi networks. If you just bought a new router, it may be set to N only, instead of N and G networks. (The DS works with B and G I believe, I know it works with G for sure.) You should try checking the settings of your router and posting them here for us to look over to be more able to help you. Consult your owners manual of the router to see how to view / edit these settings.

DS's should work with any G router that uses WEP or no encryption. I've personally had more luck with D-Link Routers. My Linksys, works, but it can be temperamental at times. Belkin also makes some decent routers for cheap.

Any router that can be set to the WEP security protocol and broadcasts in the wireless G or wireless B protocols should work.

I'm not sure. Check Nintendo's WiFi information page for the DS Lite. I've never tried connecting to something using wireless N for broadcasting.

It should be fine. The Wireless N standard is backward compatible with the older standards.

As long as the router is configured to use G as well, not all routers are that way out of the box.

I'm on a library computer and I installed the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector. I've connected it with my DSi successfully but when ever I try to do the connection test, it goes from 3 bars back to none and I get Error code: 052203 - 1.

I've disabled the firewall, so what else can I do?

Look on the bottom of the router, it should say something along the lines of router configuration and should have an IP address, my D-link router, which is several years old, has a configuration address of 192.168.0.1. My newer linksys is 192.168.1.1. If one doesn't work try the other. While looking at the bottom of the router, there should be something about default password, you will need that to login once you get the the configuration page, now since I don't know what your configuration page is gong to look like, I can only tell you what to look for as I am not there.

Once in the setup menu, your going to want to look for wireless security, WiFi set up, or anything that you think might look like it has something to do with configuration of the WiFi network. Once in the page, it should be pretty self explanatory.

Whats that mean

You need to go into your router via browser so heres step by step

1: open any browser
2: type in the address bar "your lan ip" (normally 192.168.1.1) and press enter
3: check your wep

Hello. Earlier today deku and I tried to trade in wifi room. We see each other for some reason we couldn't connect at all. What does this mean? Also we get stuck at communicating with deku or something like that. Anyone have this issue. I also gave my friend code to him and he is saying is the wrong friend code. So what should I do? Does anyone know how to reset the friend code with out restarting the game? Let me know. Does this counts I'm only at my 7th badge. I'm gonna go get my 8th soon. Let me know thanks.

I'm actually in here for the same reasons. I was trying to trade with someone a while ago and encountered the same problem. So I looked up the error code and found this, which leads me to my next question. It says to make sure my router has the latest firmware installed, but when I went to my router manufacturer's site to check for some downloads, I got this: "Do NOT upgrade firmware on any D-Link product over a wireless connection. Failure of the device may result. Use only hard-wired network connections." Now...how am I supposed to upgrade with a hard-wired connection? That would require the router to be disconnected, so how would it get upgraded? Anyway, help with both problems would be great. :>

For the firmware update, you just need to plug the computer into the router via an ethernet cable. Your router should have at least one ethernet port labeled "LAN" (not WAN. WAN is the port that the router uses to connect to the internet) that you would plug that ethernet cable into.

The reason that I assume is why they say to not update the firmware wirelessly is that firmware updates turn off the wireless, which causes the firmware update to screw up because the router loses its connection to the computer you're trying to use to update it.

Not many people are going to want to do this remotely, if something goes wrong, there is nothing they can do because they aren't there with the router. There is one program that I can think of that would work in this situation, but finding someone who is willing to do it is another.

If you can see each other, then the router is working correctly. I would suggest moving closer to the router to remove the possibility of poor signal.

As for the FC, my only guess is that he is typing it wrong, or you read it wrong when you gave it to him. Also what game are you using, and what game is deku using?

^^^ This should explain most of your questions, providing you have a DS/DSi. I really need to update it, lol.

How are you currently connecting to the internet, then?

When it says internet not available, have you tried the troubleshooting it using Windows? If not, try it, the Built in troubleshooting is actually quite good.

Hello, I am here with a question about router problems I've had for awhile now.

I don't really know what's wrong, but whenever I troubleshoot, it will either say DNS server can't respond or a message about having to disconnect my router for 10 seconds and then reconnect it. Either way, this happens throughout the day every day, and no matter what I do I will still lose my internet connection one way or another. This internet connection used to be connected to a landline telephone, and these problems started to occur when we removed that.

So does anyone know what's up with my internet?

You said that it used to be connected to a landline, what do you use now?

There are several possible reasons for the loss of connection. It sounds like you are having connection issues that might be to blamed on your ISP. Check your connection at speedtest.net and pingtest.net, it will grade your connection. If the score isn't too high you might want to call your ISP and have them check the line.

Lashh July 4th, 2011 4:39 PM

Our landline phone was connected to the modem that provides our internet, and then we removed it and you know the rest.

At pingtest, the line quality came up with a B. Is that considered high?

Its alright. And no I don't know the rest. I'm not sure how you are connecting to the internet with out a modem. Did you add a WiFi router? You need to give us every detail if you want help, with out them we may over look something while troubleshooting.

When I say the rest I meant that was when it started disconnecting a lot. We haven't added or changed anything, leaving it as is. I think I may have said something misinterpreting- we still have the modem that was connected to our landline phone, which is how we obviously connect to the internet.

I hope I'm making some sense now, lol.

I am so sorry I forgout about this.

It could be a number of things. We recently had an issue with our home DSL connection, it turned out the line wasn't properly grounded, and was causing all sorts of havoc.

If this is still going on: the next time it happens try pinging an IP address on the web. An easy IP address to remember is 8.8.8.8, which is a Google free public DNS server. (Another Google DNS server is 8.8.4.4)

If you don't know how to ping:

Spoiler:
First bring up the command prompt (which if your in Windows is an application called cmd.exe can easily be searched for from the start menu.)

Once you are at Command prompt, again if in Windows type (without the quotes) "ping 8.8.8.8"

If you get a message saying "request timed out" then you don't have internet connection at all, call your ISP and have them test the line.

I have a quick question regarding connecting the DS to Wi-Fi
I just found out the college I'm going to has two options for Wi-Fi. One through a "secure" network which requires a username and a password. The other is an unsecured network that redirects you to a page (through a web browser) where you type in a password, similar to how one would connect to certain hotel Wi-Fi connections.
Is it possible to get my DS to connect to these networks? I have a the original DS and may soon get a 3DS.

If not, are there any possible alternatives to connecting the DS to Wi-Fi?

iBlaze August 24th, 2011 3:12 PM

ok so i have a netgear router and my ds is telling me the connection isnt compatable, i thought these routers could work for white and black versions?

Which type of DS do you have? Because WPA encryptions don't work with the original DS and DS lite, regardless of the game you're playing.

Is there any way to connect to a WAP router without changing it to WEP?

But if I have to thats okay because I live next to old ladies :D

Yes there is, but it depends on what kind of device you're trying to hook up. Such as with a Nintendo DS, it would have to be a DSi or a DSi XL or a 3DS in order to connect to a WPA access point.

brad08 October 12th, 2011 10:03 PM

Oh ive got a ds lite...does that mean I have to change to WEP

Oryx October 12th, 2011 10:06 PM

Yeah, you'd have to either change your internet to WEP, get a DSi/DSiXL/3DS, or use someone else's internet in that case.

quilzel October 13th, 2011 2:14 PM

I've been having this really wired issue with my wireless routers. It starts out with my cell phone not connecting to the router when I got home. I thought it was my phone, but it connects to outer WiFi points with no problem, and it won't connect to the network even standing beside the router.

From there if a computer or other object in the house disconnects from the network, it won't re connect. I though the DHCP server on the router was messing up, I'm still not sure on this. I can static IP something and it will work for a little while before disconnecting again.

This problem happens with two different routers in the same location (one messed up so I switched them. Still same problem) every once in a while everything looses signal completely. Also at times random websites take 10+ seconds to load then everything seems to work okay, except downloads are slow 30-300KB/s instead of 600-700KB/s.

I'm pretty sure it’s not my modem. I don't think it's either router because they both work okay. I think it's interference, but I'm not even sure how to check that. Both routers use WPA2 encryption. My bedroom is only about 30 feet from the router (through two walls). My laptop also in the same room as the phone usually doesn't have any issues, but once in a great while it does. The desktop computer (that uses WiFi) about 4 feet from the router only messed up when everything slows down, or connection goes completely derp side up. Any Ideas? (may or may not be related, but we have been having a lot of random and sporadic signal losses for out satellite TV. We get a pop up window that says "Complete signal loss" it usually automatically goes off in 1-3 seconds)

I would appreciate some input, I am about to drill some holes in the floor and run cat 5 cable across the house.

donavannj October 13th, 2011 3:35 PM

You can use a wireless network scanner to see what channels are causing interference in that spot.

Remember that wireless is over radio waves, so something in that area could be generating radio waves at the same frequency, or you could have created a dead spot between the two routers because their wireless signals are using the same channel and frequency.

Hey guys. So recently I bought a Nintendo 3ds. I used to play my pokemon games on my DS Lite but seeing as my internet router had a WPA key I wasn't able to go online. Now I have connected my 3DS to the router and the internet runs fine in the browser for the console but then when I go into pokemon heart gold and go to the GTS in Goldenrod City and go to the woman at the top of the room and save my game when I try to connect i get this message.
"No compatible access point in range.
Check you connection settings and try again.
For help visit support.nintendo.com
Error Code: 51099"

Does anyone know any way I can fix this?

When you tap Internet Settings, there's an option called "Nintends DS Settings" where you can set up connections for older DS titles like Pokémon Heart Gold, Diamond and whatnot. Be aware, however, that it won't support WPA or any variation of it- only WEP and unprotected access points will work.

So no matter what my router will never be able to support Pokemon games? :(

vagrantwanderer November 6th, 2011 11:04 PM

Is the soulsilver GTS down permanently? I have my router set to WEP (using my 3DS), and it still gets an error message. I still have full bars when using Wifi on my White version.

xxashxx November 30th, 2011 10:46 PM

Having problems reconnecting my DS to Wi-Fi.

How do we set our router so that it picks up my signal for my DS? The other day our network went down while we were in town and we came home and the internet was completely down. We called our service provider and they got our computers back online but the numbers for each computer changed. Now the router will not allow my DS to connect to Wi-Fi at all. We have done all we can that we can that we can think of and the router has the previous settings now that it had before the network went down and now for some reason the DS will not connect to Wi-Fi.

When I try to connect all that happens is it will show bars then it will disconnect and show this error:

You are unable to connect to Nintendo Wi-Fi connection.
Please check your connection settings and Try again.

Error code: 52100.

I don't know what to do so it will connect to Wi-Fi. If someone can help with this I would be greatly appreciated for the help. My router is a D-Link Router but I don't know what to do to fix this problem.

Also my range of bars is only 1 bar when I connect and I don't know how to fix that so it shows all 3 bars. Thanks guys.http://www.pokebeach.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif

See what happened is our server reassigned new DNS numbers to each computer and ever since those were changed the router has not been able to connect to Wi-Fi. All it does is show bars when I try to connect then it disconnects and I get the above error.:)

donavannj November 30th, 2011 10:50 PM

Did you follow the instructions on this page for your error code on the Nintendo website?

http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/wfc/en_na/ds/results.jsp?error_code=52100&system=DS&locale=en_US&action2.x=0&action2.y=0

xxashxx November 30th, 2011 10:58 PM

I know what the problem is but the thing is none of us know what to change on the router so it will open up the Wi-Fi. That's the main problem. If we make a mistake we are basically toast because we don't know what we should change on the router without messing up the internet itself. If you have a solution to help us out that is what we are looking for. Thanks XD.:)

Dorm Wifi Issues

Hey,

So I live in a dorm, and I have tried over and over to get my DS light to connect to the wifi here, but it won't... :/

There are two wifi's, one is username and password protected, and the other requires you to type on an email to use it.

Is there any way I can connect to this wifi??

Thank you!!!!

Talk to your school about it. My college has a username/password system that isn't workable with my old DS, but when asked they have a particular way that you can register game systems to make them work. Every college I've seen had something similar so I'm betting yours does too.

Aquaphyre December 1st, 2011 5:57 PM

Cool, thank you so much!!!!!

quilzel December 1st, 2011 6:19 PM

What Toujours said might work, but not likely. Your best bet would be to go to a coffee shop and use their free WiFi.

The DS does not have a browser, so it can't go to the page where you type in your email, or the username and password. It is highly unlikely that your school would be willing to restructure their WiFi protection system because you want to connect your Nintendo DS.

No, that's not how it works at all. The schools have certain ways of determining what's a computer and what's not. For example, to make mine work I had to go to a certain website that the IT people set up, enter my DS' mac address and a name for it, and they recognized it and it could connect to the internet.

My sister's college is the same way, as is my best friend's college - they all have internet designed so a DS can't log on, but if you talk to the IT people they have a way to get around it designed for game systems.

Aquaphyre December 1st, 2011 8:22 PM

Thanks guys,

I sent my IT people at my school an email, so we'll see what happens!!

PS- I can post here when I find the answer so you two know for sure :]

If you have a DSL like I have it will ONLY work on WEP Keys. If it is password protected it will not works as that is a WPA password and is a diffrent type than WEP.:)

My college makes you open up a browser window and type in your user name and password, that's if you're not using Windows, if you are using Windows, they make you download a little program called 'Cisco clean agent' that makes sure you are running an anti virus, you must then type in your username and password in the program to get access to the network.

Every network is gonna be different.

The only thing you can do is get a DSi and higher liket the XL and 3DS as they support WPA but here is the catch. Diamond Pearl Platinum Heart Gold and Soul Silver do not work on WPA and the only games that do work on WPA are Black and White. If you are thinking of getting a DSi get Black and white then transfer all your data to Black and White.:)

Yes. That is why my advice was to talk to the people that control the network, instead of just taking your word for it that it wasn't possible and to just give up. The way my network is set up, it is impossible for you to connect from anything without WPA connections or a browser (one network is unsecured but you enter your username/pw into a browser to access, one is secured WPA with username/pw access). Either way my original DS wasn't getting in. But I called my technology department and they had a specific website where I put in the mac address of my Nintendo DS so they could distinguish it from other devices, and then I was allowed to connect through the unsecured network because the network let me through without needing to go through a browser.

I'm not saying there will definitely be a way, but it's college. I'm 90% sure they don't block out all game systems without a browser from the internet, because generally that's not how colleges are. Have you tried calling your IT people?

xxashxx December 6th, 2011 11:21 PM

Today we tried to use the Nintendo website to fix the Router and it did not work. I tried deleting my connection and re entering the WEP key and that did not work All it does is show bars and then disconnect. Is there something we need to change or should we contact our service provider to see if they can help fix the problem? Thanks.:)

Me? No, I use internet at home, and I would temporally disable security on my network when I wanted to get on with my DS.

xxashxx December 7th, 2011 10:30 PM

Guys I got my Wi-Fi to work again. I had to enter the new DNS Primary and Secondary numbers for it to work and I am now back online. Thanks for all your help guys.:)

EDIT: Why can't I connect to Wi-Fi now?

I am wondering because when I try to connect I get this error. Unable to obtain an IP address. Move within range or check your DHCP settings or visit www.nintendosupport.com. Error code: 52000

I have tried to reset my connection manually on the DS and everything is the same as it was. The DNS matches the router. I also did a search for connections and put in my WEP key and still nothing works. It was working fine until Monday night After that it was a struggle to con nect and now I can't even connect at all.

I checked with a few of my friends and they can connect but for some reason I can't even get on. If anyone can help it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks XD.http://www.pokemonsecure.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I just bought myself a Nintendo 3DS. Now I want to trade pokemon between my DSi and my 3DS.
I want to trade between HG and platinum. After trying for hours, the internet on my DSi started to work with pokemon HG, and I got my platinum friend code on my DSi after switching games.

The problem is that my 3DS refuse to connect to the internet while playing pokemon. I can go online, just not while playing pokemon. I bought this so I could trade between my own games.

There is no answer on google, so I decided to ask my favorite pokemon friends - what is going on? I've changed all settings and it's working fine on the DSi but not on the 3DS while playing pokemon.

Thank you all! :-)

I am not sure why the 3DS won't connect, but you are also not being very discriptive. When asking for help, especially from people who are not psyically present it is very important to be as discripitve as possible. Help us help you.

Trade with your self without using the friend code.
I can't remember what the menu option is, but on the game select the option that says trade with trainers who are near by.
