Hypno?

While randomly searching through the serebii pokedex I looked up hypno. He has good HP and Sp def and his movepool is quite good in my opinion.. Can he be used as a Sp wall effectively?

- Calm Mind/Light Screen
- Psychic

- Shadow Ball/Focus Blast

thx! what bout OU, think he has a chance?

Definitely. The problem is that the only way for Hypno to heal itself is Wish, which can't be obtained through normal means (meaning you'll have to hack for it or go to the Pokécenter in Tokyo or wherever it was moved in America and download it from there) so you'll have to get external Wish support for it. That means Hypno is more of a special tank than a special wall.

For the moves you'll want a Bold Hypno with max HP, a large chunk of Sp.Defense and the rest in Defense or Sp.Attack. The moves should be:

- Thunder Wave/Hypnosis/Toxic (though I personally don't like Toxic too much)
- Psychic/Shadow Ball
- Trick Room/Nasty Plost/Grass Knot/Focus Blast/Reflect/Light Screen
- Trick Room/Nasty Plost/Grass Knot/Focus Blast/Reflect/Light Screen

you can choose between a more offensive and a more defensive set. Trick Room work well with Hypno's low-ish Speed (though in that case you'll want Relaxed Nature to further lower its Speed) and Grass Knot and Focus Blast give some more type coverage. Light Screen and Reflect are great for enhancing Hypno's tanking capabilities and actually make it somewhat of a wall. (though a proper wall can still heal itself)

If i'm right, Hypno is a physical attacker, not a special attacker, sho it should learn Zen Headbutt.

Shiraishi August 9th, 2007 7:09 AM

Thx :D ..I happen to be in Tokyo right now o.0 I also have access to nintendo world because I live in nyc o_o

EDIT: Hypno's stats for attack and SP atk are the same.

Im not really sure as i havent seen any in OU, but maybe he could do a good job if you got a couple of Calm Minds In.

Edit: Hypno makes better use of special attacks so keep him special.

Excuse me for my stupidity. I forgot to put Calm Mind as an option in my set. x___x

Hypno works as both, but since it learns more high power special moves than physical moves, special attacks are generally more effective.

hypno is so cool. i only wish mine didn't miss 90% of the time with hypnosis. ._.

Hypno is a staller, not an attacker lol.

Hypno @ Leftovers
Nature: +Def, or +Sp.Def Nature. -Atk or -Sp. Atk
Ability: Either of them, they're both good.
EVs: 252 Hp, Split between defenses, more in Sp. Def though.
- Seismic Toss
- Thunder Wave
- Reflect
- Wish

Wish supporter and paralyzes stuff. Also sets up Reflect. Hypno is a beast in UU, could possibly have a chance in OU, just a small one.

You're forgetting that very few people can just walk into a pokecenter to download a Hypno with Wish due to travelling distances. And that isn't a staller set, it's a supporter set. =P But yeah, if you can get a Wish Hypno, that moveset work the best for it.
