My Competitive Team - Rate?

Feel fairly good about it, but I welcome suggestions, even if they require starting over on certain things (I can always breed if I have to), whether it be natures or EV spreads. Items will probably be the biggest question mark. Again, feel free to make comments/suggestions. Now, not sure I have the EV spreads listed 100% accurate, but close enough. If some of the numbers don't look exactly accurate, just know my math is not very good, lol. But you should have a good enough idea. Lastly, I received a bit of help from a few members on my EV spreads. For those of you who did, you know who you are. Thanks.

Spooky Plate (I'm thinking something else would be better)
Modest Nature
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SP.ATK/252 SPD/4 HP
Hypnosis
Shadow Ball
Nightmare
Psychic

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v76/Powerpunk/th_Milotic.png
Leftovers
Bold Nature
Ability: Marvel Scale
EVs: 252 HP/252 DEF/4 SP.ATK
Ice Beam
Surf
Rest
Sleep Talk

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v76/Powerpunk/th_Tyranitar.png
Choice Band
Adamant Nature
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs (Need help on this one): 126 HP/130 ATK/252 SPD
Earthquake
Stone Edge
Crunch
Pursuit
(Question on this. Is the speed EV training really worth it? His speed even after the EV training is barely above 200 in most cases.)

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v76/Powerpunk/th_Infernape.png
Charcoal (Need something better I think)
Hasty Nature
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 24 ATK/232 SPD/252 SP.ATK
Close Combat
Flamethrower
Thunder Punch
Grass Knot (Nasty Plot? I dunno, a bit too fragile for that. Could probably use a better last move)

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v76/Powerpunk/th_Ludicolo.png
Leftovers
Calm Nature
Ability: Rain Dish
EVs: 252 HP/252 SP.DEF/4 DEF
Ice Beam
Toxic
Leech Seed
Rain Dance (Substitute? Or stick with Rain Dance?)

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v76/Powerpunk/th_GSC-Scizor.png
Scope Lens
Adamant Nature
Ability: Swarm
EVs (not completely sure about this exact spread, depending on what base stats are): 252 HP/252 DEF/4 ATK
Swords Dance
X Scissor
Iron Head
Night Slash (replace with something?)

~Ice Beam
~Water Ring/Recover

~Dragon Dnace instead of Pursuit

Infernape@Leftovers/Muscle Band
EVs: 252atk, 252spd, 4hp
~Thunderpunch
~Close Combat
~Fire Blast/Flamethrower

Thanks. I'm a bit weary on a couple of your suggestions, though. Nightmare has been so good. To take away about an eighth of damage every turn in addition to any moves you use is pretty good. Focus blast isn't very accurate (as much as I DO love that move) and since my Gengar is based on Speed and doesn't have great SP. Def, I don't necessarily see that as a good idea. regarding Milotic, wouldn't Rest/Sleep Talk work better than Recover? You get a full bar and can still attack on the next turn, same way. My Tyranitar (ATM) is based on Speed and not defense, therefore I don't see Dragon Dance as much help since his defense won't hold up too long. I can always re-breed and base him on defenses rather than speed, but LMK if that's a better idea. Again, even maxing his EVs in Speed still leads to poor Def regardless.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm still weary about giving up Nightmare. Even if they do switch out, they've got a sleeping Pokemon so it doesn't happen much. I'll try the Tyranitar suggestions. Scizor sounds okay, but I'm spending a lot of time being patient with this lineup. I like the idea, but I don't know if I want to take the more passive approach (and I don't want to have to give up using my Shiny Scizor :/). I guess I can't totally disagree with you on it being a great idea, though. I'll think about that. I do totally disagree on Ludicolo, though. His purpose is to be an annoying status-effecting wall, and with your alterations, he's just another attacker, and as you can see, I didn't train him to be one.

Lastly, is there really a point to having both Grass Knot and Thunderpunch in the same moveset? O_o

Azonic August 10th, 2007 3:32 PM

Lets say this:

Gengar - Hypnosis
Foe - sound asleep

Foe - switches out into an awake pokemon
Gengar - Nightmare... no effect

*Most expert trainers can tell what is coming after a Hypnosis from Gengar(Nightmare or Dream Eater) and will switch out to avoid the effect.

*Think of it this way. Nightmare is a lot like Confusion or Infatuation, no one uses the attack alone. Most trainers use Swagger/Attract/Confuse Ray with an attack like Whirlpool, Fire Spin, Block, or Mean Look.

*Sleep conditions last for a short time so it might wake up on the turn when you use Nightmare so it won't have any effect, and you just wasted 2 turns of glory.

Nightmare should be taken out. Well, if this is in-game, then keep Nightmare(cuz people in-game are dumb and never switch out), but in competetive, always keep Nightmare, Swagger or Attract OUT.

Good point. At this point, it's mostly worked because I'm tricked people into thinking I'll use something different. Luck, I suppose.

2 votes for below average? That's a little harsh, I think...

Azonic August 10th, 2007 5:38 PM

Never use the Plates or the 10% boost items(Charcoal, Miracle Seed, etc)

I voted Decent since your pokemon are OK. Mainly because Scizor is most common as a Baton Passer and Nightmare on Gengar.

Pursuit should be taken out since the power doubles and just about rivals Crunch, and Crunch can be used so much more often.

I can't find any harsh weaknesses.

I will be fixing exactly those things. I'm having a tough time getting Scizor's speed up regardless of nature, though. Maybe I'll just make it HP and DEF on the EVs.

Azonic August 10th, 2007 5:45 PM

Well, if you EV train, results aren't gonna show until Level 100. So even if Scizr battled like 100 Zubats in one level, it still might be plus 3 instead of plus 25.

BTW train where Golbat are. If you have it in FRLGE then train in Altering Cave.

Don't worry, I understand all the basic aspects of EV training. And I'm speaking from a point where I have 2 Scizors at LV 94 right NOW and the Speed is still bad, so I'm more partial to Impish Nature at this point.

Azonic August 10th, 2007 6:34 PM

o.O

Why are you training Scizor's speed anyways? It is at a base of 65.

I'm not anymore, lol. It was originally suggested to me to max out his speed, but like Tyranitar, it seems like a waste.
