You don't know what we've been through...
This episode definitely establishes many of the trademarks of the Pokemon Anime. It's definitely interesting how the anime explores Gym Leaders on a deeper level than the games. Sure, they have become more prominent in recent games, with more activity outside the gym, but you never really see the leaders on a more personal level in the games. Seeing Brock's family, and seeing how his Dad left them to pursue the same dream Ash has certainly gave this episode some weight. It's also the first time Pikachu really gets super charged, leaving him as one of the most powerful Pokemon in the show from this point on. Sure in Viridian he had his moment, but it was more of a joint effort back then.
I am cool with that choice of episode this week, never really watched any Chronicles before. :D
