I'll take this.

Map Name: Desert Pass

Map Game: Firered.

Rating: 7

Reason: Very nice terrain, would make a nice route passage.

Suggestions: I might suggest removing the bushes in the upper left seeing as they are mostly seen in towns and cities.

Map Name: Serenity Village

Map Game: Fire Red

Comments: It's the starter town for my hack. I know there are tile errors on the house, but they won't be there when I insert tiles. I'm just looking for CC on the layout.

Rating: 5/10

Reason: You seem to understand that there are tile errors. Your trees are shaded to perfection as far as I can tell. The path is uneven and the water leads nowhere.

Suggestions: Even out the path, close the body of water and fix those errors!

Reviewing atangerine (couldn't post the link since I haven't made 15 posts yet ehehe)
This is a very natural looking map, but the main flaw is that there is too much going on. It's a hybrid of a city, a cave, a river, and a bit of forest as well. There's no need for such complexity, and it would really confuse a player (do they go to the cave, up the waterfall, or into the house?). But the actual mapping is beautiful and natural.

7.7/10

Unfortunately, this map is very square. The boring border of the treeline does nothing for this town. Why not try bringing it in, closer to the houses, in an irregular shape.

The random garden in the bottom-right doesn't help - why not make more consistent gardens? Maybe bushes out the front of some of the houses, or flowers scattered throughout the maps (diagonal pairs looks best).

Finally, the paths are a bit large and... aimless. Lots of looping and overcomplicated paths just aren't nice to look at.

3/10

My map that I made a while ago.

An interesting map. I like the range of details - however a few things bother me.

Firstly, lots of one-way paths, especially around the water's edge. Secondly, the cave area, on top of all that rock/dirt tile, looks so bare compared to the rest of the map! There's nothing there! Extend the layer with the entrance to make it less empty.

You will also have some border errors, but you probably know that ><.

8/10, Good map!

Mmmm.

sssshhhh.....
Le pug is talking.

The first map of yours I'd give a solid 2/10. The reason I don't give it a 1/10 is because it doesn't completely remind me of Pallet Town, but closely resembles it except the one random Pokemon exhibit. My suggestions to you would be: make your first map much like your second map in that your second map is a solid 8/10. When it comes to the original tilesets, you have to be creative not to remind me of the original game and this map that you've created has distracted me from that thought and I would envision myself playing a completely different Pokemon game. The curves and the splashes of random tiles really helps create a map and you've hit both. I suggest making the rocky mountain a little bit more detailed, like maybe throw in a couple stones, maybe raise the level of the mountain one more time?

...okay le pug is done.
still sssshhhh.....

My map that I made a while ago.

Not being someone who maps in "natural" style, I might not be the best person to rate this, but I really do like this map. There are a couple of errors, but overall I think you did a good job. Waterfalls are something that not a lot of people use in maps and you used it pretty well.
Errors: (some of these are just my opinion, you don't have to care)
1. In a few places, most notably the top left corner, the player can walk off the map.
2. I'm not sure that rock tile is really meant to be walked on.
3. I find cave entrance tiles look a bit weird if they're only on one layer of mountain.
4. The player can Surf out of the map.

Overall, though, this is a pretty nice map, good job. :) 8/10

Alright.

You used the same grass tile repeatedly, most noticeably at the top.

There is Pallet Town with the following changes:
  • You switched Blue's house with Oak's lab
  • There's an extra house at the bottom.
  • No water piece.
  • What was Red's house is now slightly larger.
  • A pokemon exhibit with a single wigglytuff.
  • A random garden.
  • Some additional path work.

I implore you to try to think a little differently. Don't look at maps and say that you want it to look like Pallet Town or New Bark Town, etc. Look at it as a blank canvas and you're creating a whole new world(cue Aladdin music).

Also, as stated before, attempt to make places seem a little more irregular. This Pallet Town rendition seems to be in the woods, so it is silly to think that it is a perfectly carved square with no wildlife. Try to add some random flowers, a little pond, play with the size of the whole place, and make it not so... square.

It also helps to play with the idea of elevation(maybe not in this particular map, but still). Try to use mountains and ledges to help give the place a touch of depth.

I'll give this a solid 2/10 because you at least know how the program works.

I'd say 9/10. I like your palette, the size of the map and the amount of entrances. I'd say the only thing I really don't like is the flowers. I feel that with the dark trees, maybe brighter flowers will liven things up? Just a suggestion otherwise good job

9/10, there are just too many rocks on the mountains, making look a bit less natural. However, I like the whole landscape.

Ok, so I have done a lot of maps already from Sinnoh, so I compiled them into a region map of what I've done so far. There are a few tile glitches because the DS can handle more layers, and the GBA can only handle 4. Anyway, large (Really Large) image:

@ gogojjtech

For what you've done so far it looks pretty good and since its the Sinnoh region I guess the main comparison is between the similarities so aside from Eterna Forest, Lake Verity, Orebugh Gate and the Oreburgh Mine which I imagine you will probably make a separate map for this whole thing looks completely fine.

10/10

This is my interpretation of the Kanto region some distant amount of time after the events of G/S/C. Just a warning this is a big map. Also I know some routes remain unchanged I have yet to get to them I'm just looking for opinions on the state of what has changed.

@Serperion

I like the changes to the towns that you're making. The machop in Vermilion seems to have finished pounding out the foundation, and now there are houses there. Lavander town seems to have dissapeared though, and now theres a bunch of graves where it was. Makes me wonder what happened. I also noticed the Cerulean Gym was moved out of the city and placed near Bill's house. And it looks like people are moving back to Cinnibar. Looks like some time has passed since the GSC games.

If you dont mind me asking, what's with the houses that cut into the rock wall above Lavander town and Cerulean city?

I give it a 7/10, because I really like the ideas, but there's still a lot more work to be done before its finished.

And here are my maps. I've only been working with Advance Map for about 2 days now. I started learning to do warps and other basic things. (I dont currently have permission to post images because they use URL links, so I'll just add a space to the image links)

@Crystal King

Thank you for responding to my map I was able to do much more editing during the wait.

Anyway looking at Opal Village I has a very natural look and I like how you've done a good mix between mountain and plains. The two houses at the top near the pokemon center I recommend swapping the Door and Window placement it just looks off otherwise. I like how you're not afraid to mix roofing colours which is a fresh look on these kind of maps. The only other biff I have is that puddle at the bottom just does't seem to fit in, I'm not sure why maybe it might just be the lack of a marshy feel but still...

Overall a very well designed map I really like the concept 9.4/10

Quartz Town - Ok this one is kind of a bit odd, it seems barren near the Pokemon Mart and the mountain tiles have some errors around the base. Also see the complaint from Opal Village I had before about houses. The entrances to this area seem correct, they are definetly meant to be like that. unlike Opal Village I find the water body more appropriate since I'm not sure if we're travelling into marsh or forest so it is ok as long as the area to the north becomes marshy.

Overall this map isn't as good as Opal Village however the idea flows through 8.9/10

Now onwards to Kanto Region
Lots of new updates to areas
We'll go through the new changes only not any from my first post

Pallet Town: Nothing New
Route 1: More twisting route shape making it more difficult to progress through
Viridian City: More houses, better developed Gym and other major buildings still existant
Route 22: More mountainous due to growing volcanic activity in Victory Road
Route 2: Significantly Smaller now only southern section as Viridian Forest expanded.
Viridian Forest: Now two maps, Viridian forest (Route 2 - Pewter City) and Viridian Cave a cave in trade for the loss of space for the bugs. Viridian Forest now encompasses Diglett Cave and Northern Route 2
Pewter City: Nothing New
Route 3: Simpler design following basic twisting pattern with Eastern end staying same also the building in Mt. Moon have been removed.
Route 4: Trees have grown out and expanded. Cerulean Cave now accessible from Route 4.
Cerulean City: Nothing New
Route 24: More Grass Patches as well as removing separation between Nugget Bridge and secret path.
Route 25: Houses moved around, Bill's house removed (Bill in Johto) replaced by three smaller houses
Route 5: More space for Daycare due to breeding program, grass still existant however underground path removed.
Route 6: Underground path turned into pitstop for trainers, route semi-flooded by Celadon River.
Vermillion City: Couple of new houses not much else.
Route 11: Forest Growth however path remains relatively unchanged expands past original Guard Post.
Route 9: Hills formed due to digging out area for New Lavender Town. Path more accessible.
Route 10: Pokemon Center moved near Power Plant due to attacks from Zapdos in past, New Lavender town situated in southern section. Now no longer home to Pokemon Tower
Lavender Graveyard: What used to be Old Lavender Town until the ZekromDeath which caused mass death killing 1 in every 3 Pokemon. Graveyard multiple levels deep now home to many ghosts and bottom floor inhabited by Giratina under some occasions
Route 8: Significantly Shorter now no longer featuring wild Pokemon due to expansion of Saffron City
Saffron City: Growth rate causes more use of Train Station as well as Dojo moving to East Saffron. East Saffron has reputation with high crime rate.
Route 7: Minor growth of buildings from Celadon now has housing estates built. Pokemon found in Route 8 now found in Route 7.
Celadon City: Due to the concern of Pollution Gym Leader Erika ran for mayor of Celadon winning by a landslide, her first act was to include a natural river running through Celadon to give back to nature she also tore down the Gambling Casino due to the discovery of capture pokemon within the hidden warehouse. Other buildings replaced by nature protected area. Smaller houses built in northern section.
Route 16: Area around Fly Tutor's House grows more trees due to loss of communications with Fly Tutor, Northern Bike Path stays unchanged.
Route 17: bridge added due to inaccessibility to tall grass patch
Route 18: Trees added due to need for nature. Outside Bike Path the route has a major change due to recent volcanic activity causing a mass growth of plants and some small hills. Bridge connects Route to Fuchsia City.
Fuchsia City: Minor Aesthetic Changes to grass.
Route 14 & 15: Tree Growth replaces Hill and requires Cut to access inner area
Route 13 (Fuchsia Forest): New forest forms due to complaints about useless gates.
Route 12: Area mostly Flooded most bridges destroyed, Guard Post moved to where Snorlax used to be also remaining bridges overwhelmed by Fisherman seeking supposed Horsea found.
Route 19: Coral Reefs (Barriers) form and area now inhabited by Corsola.
Roue 20: Blaine makes permanent at Eastern Seafoam Island to which he installed an underground pipe to pump lava into area to cool down Cinnabar Island. Western Seafoam Island fully Freezes over causing the appearance of steam occasionally appearing in ocean.
Cinnabar Island: Mart Properly built more houses built
Route 21: Like Route 19 Expanded, Also due to volcanic requirements another pipe is placed in Route 21 to cool off Cinnabar Island, this causes Magma Cave to form supposedly now housing Groudon within.
Pokemon League: No changes from previous version

PREPARE FOR CHANGE!

Comments: I was digging around my files, and found this map. It was the first ones I had ever made, but I decided to implement it in one of my hacks. In the Northwestern corner of the map, there are several trainers. Each gives a reward after beaten. In context, these people are known as the "Campers". Two visible items are found throughout the map, as well as several cleverly hidden items.

Wow! I love your map! It feels so.....natural. Great work with the rock formations and the attention to detail! Also, if there are tile errors, I can't see em :)

Here's mine:
Map Name: Route 4
Map Game: Emerald
Comments: Technically, the route is unfinished. The inspiration for the route was the Sinnoh route before Floaroma town with the cave blocking your way. In my map, it is the hill that is the obstacle, with the route continuing to the right (I will prob do this eventually). Also, to access the upper river, you need to dive from inside the cave. Finally, I have just started mapping, so there are probably many tile errors and such. I want criticism, but please don't bury me in negative replies (Trying to stay positive :) ). Thanks!

This map is probably to large to be one route I would say make it two routes with the split being from the Waterfall across the Mountain Range. There are too many exits on this map I have to say 9 exits if not more is too much aim for 6 at most. Also the water could probably be stronger water since it is near a waterfall I mean look at the Hoenn Pokemon League. Anyway this map is pretty good keep editing it and make it look outsatanding.

7.9/10

Anyways since I doubt someone will review my new map here is a random map I made while bored it's meant to be a Pokemon League/Victory Road area.

There are quite a few tile errors that need to be fixed like the building's shadow and the upper part of the trees right below the round bush thingys, but other than that it looks like a solid Gamefreak styled map. Although it's a bit empty at the bottom of the map imo.

Lake of Veil - This is a starter town by appearance however it's very large in comparison to other Pokemon Starter Towns. I understand if you are aiming to be different from the regular starter towns but maybe include some mountain or forest to take up space, shrink the whole map or include more buildings. I will give you commendations due to you including more than one exit to the map which we haven't seen in Pokemon Games since Gen II. I do however find that the ledge near the Eastern Exit is unnecessary due to its small size and Easy return path. One last little complaint I have about this map is the area behind the Pokemon Lab, it's very blocky, I mean it has a pyramid shape group of trees and has a pattern of flowers, try changing this to something more rhythmic.

6.4/10

Talren Path - The route concept is relatively well thought out however I don't like how you've included the two very different trees (Kanto Megas and Hoenn Minis). The flowers, pathing and water body are all well placed and I find it nice how most of the map doesn't feel blocky. I also find this a bit frustrating is those 8 trees in the bottom right, They are out of place, what I would recommend is to connect some of those trees to the general border and have the others completely seperate maybe even split the path before the water body in two. Overall this map is very nice and aside from a few patches here and there it's very well planned out.

8.6/10

Mt. Andy - Mt. Andy... the name is kind of odd but I'll let that pass. The map itself is rather interesting really just looking at the map it appears to mirror Mt. Moon or other minor Mountains due to it being still very green and having definite pathing. There are a few tile errors mainly with the entrance to the Eastern Cave so just watch out for those. I'm also finding the bottom section of the map where all the trees are is too empty mostly because it should be accessible or completely covered in trees. The last thing I want to note is that waterfall and the top body of water, I noticed there is a small bank there which would theoretically be an entrance to the map is this true?

7.7/10

Ok all 8 Gyms have been edited there are some variations to previous tiles (primarily in the 3rd Gym) and some Custom Tiles I added, if you are wondering what certain tiles are *cough* 8th Gym *cough* don't hesitate to ask.

I really like this map, it feels natural. However, you should work on the trees in the lower lift corner. You should edit the upper left corner too. Maybe add some rocks, flowers, puddles, or even a maze with something like a nugget or a revive at the end?
I also like the idea of diving from the cave, and don't have anything against the size of this map. Altogether, I give it a 8.7/9

Here is mine:
Map name: Guyana

Hack name: Pokémon RocketRed

Hack base: Pokémon FireRed

Comments:

This map is a puzzle based on Guyana from the anime. You come from below, and jump off the boat at the bottom of the map, at the right side of the river. You then have to find all the tablets, each of which will make a piece of black ground disappear, as seen below. You can jump over 1-block-wide parts of the river, but trying to walk on black tiles will give the message "An odd psychic force is pulling you back."
If you get the last tablet, the rock in front of the temple will disappear. There you will find a ruins-of-alph-like puzzle with mew. Solving it will let you sail further up the river, taking back a fossilized eyelash you found.

And here is the actual map:
Spoiler:

EDIT: just noticed I accidentally switched tablet 6 with the grass tile, already changed it in the game.
