Shen Yun 神韻芸術団 [M]

The young warrior had finally awaken. He hadn't been so far from the village before his long journey of enlightenment, but he found himself strolling through the farmlands, to crossing rivers, and even to scaling mountains. He had very little resources and worn out clothes, practically the only thing keeping him strong was his loyal partner, Eevee. Eevee had helped him kept his master awake from his weakness, as the duo pressed on. Soon the clear night sky got cloudy, and rain began to pour, followed up by lighting. If they weren't careful, the wind would cause rock avalanches, and ultimately tie into their own downfall. The rain wasn't letting up. But they had to keep going, for his road to enlightenment was ahead.

The only moment the young warrior could recall before being passed out: they soon sought their sight upon ancient scriptures in a peculiar rock formation. That was when they saw it -- the thunder and lighting were closer and louder, as he soon saw what it seemed like a gigantic rainbow winged bird. There was then a gigantic cry from the bird, as it then released its powerful sacred flame in the distance, almost making the duo lose their balance, as the rocks crumbled. He didn't know where the bird was aiming towards, but as soon as he knew it, the bird flapped its monstrous wings and flew off towards the distance. The warrior couldn't keep his eyes open as he went to a state of unconsciousness then, the only thing he remembered, the rainbow feathers from the bird glowing once again anew. That warrior's name, was Shen Yun. Some say the legends describe him as the beauty of divine beings, dancing even towards the heavens. At least, that is one of many tales upon the region of Hesui.

Over the last few decades, Hesui became a developed nation after many a rule. These days, the Hesui nation became under rule of the Kara royal family, with the benevolent Queen Kayoko Kara seizing the throne. With her reign, the nation was one of peace and order. However, as the times were changing, the nation became less stabilized, due to resources becoming more and more used up, and finances dwindling. Because of this, more and more of society grew unsettled, resulting in civil riots, especially growing talks... of revolution, and civil war.

Soon a smaller area of the large region of Hesui became a rogue, separate region from Hesui, called the Hojiro region, occupied by the revolutionists leader, Lord Koishikawa. Koishikawa and his followers believed that the current Hesui government is weak, and because of this weaknesses, the nation can't be strong enough to contend with the rest of the regions in the world. They hope to change the current rule, to change status quo to make Hesui a more powerful nation than ever. Warriors have trained & fought time and time again, steeling themselves for the chaos soon to come.

With civil war on the horizon, and as a resident of the orderly Kara-ruled Hesui, you're piqued with the question of whether you'd like to reserve the peaceful status quo, or support the on going revolution, in hopes for greater prosperity. What will you decide what is best for Hesui? How will you fight for it? That's the most important question in your mind... until you've gotten a certain dream. In the dream, you see a giant, multicolored Pokémon, roaring and soaring over a burning region... Was it a cry for help? When you wake, you might find the dream to be surreal. Too surreal, as you then find a peculiar mark on your hand...

Humans & Pokemon

This world is inhabited by not only humans, but a peculiar species of monsters who wielded strange and abnormal powers called Pokemon.

poke.jpg

Pokémon have lived alongside humans for generations; with their origin story debated time and time again. Some wild Pokemon are territorial, while some are naturally docile towards humans. When more and more species became discovered, people started developing ways to harness their power. Apricons seem to resonate with a Pokemon's temperament, leaving even the more territorial ones docile towards humans. As technology became slightly more advanced, tools called Apriballs were created, capturing the Pokemon for humans.

Over time in Hesui, the wild Pokémon are captured and treated as mindless and unintelligent tools for convenience, and for battle. Over time, this treatment towards Pokémon have become the accepted social norm, with only a very small percentage of the population respecting a Pokemon's power and ability enough to call them a respectable ally. However, those who do think this way are often shunned by society by their absurd way of thinking.

Nowadays, Pokemon battle practices have become common, with the more seasoned battlers of Pokemon now being referred to as warriors. The need for warriors are increasing in this region as crime, and other forms of conflict ensues.

Rules & Regulations

Respect should always be given! As fellow RPers in this game, we should all work together to ensure that we all have the most fun and positive atmosphere that we can possibly have. So, please give others the respect that you would like to be given in return!

Rating is M. Violence and depressing moments are imminent in this RP. You've been warned.

Try to post actively So before you consider joining here, you need to make that effort to keep your activity constant! If it's not within your power to post regularly, let me know beforehand and we can work something out! Otherwise, I'll have to free up your slot for someone else.

There are no levels in this RP. So, how pokemon learn new moves or evolves is by your own prerogative. That being said, try to be realistic and subtle with this; for example, a Dratini couldn't really evolve into a Dragonite in a very small amount of time.

Wait for each new area! Don't really go off on your own to further areas until I show each area at a time. This is just to keep things less confusing and more organized for you.

Hesuian Culture

Today are simpler times in Hesui, with the citizens having simple lives. Some work in the farmlands, some with iron, and some make their living involving Pokemon practices like battling for the region. The citizens had always admired tradition above all else. The region itself is on a fairly large island separating it from the rest of the world's ideals and traditions, as the people in the region always stuck to their own beliefs.

For clothing, the women in the region are seen wearing kimonos most of the time, and the men wore their traditional-styled yukatas. The warriors of the region had a more custom approach to their attire, wearing colours and styles making them stand out from the rest.

"Everything has its price..."

Shizuru Hinashi / Female / 23 Years Old / 木

hzBTOg5.png

Appearance

Standing at only 5'3", Shizuru is a bit on the shorter side. While she sports a somewhat slender body build, she isn't frail and sickly looking. Rather, her body is toned with lean muscle from constant exercise and training with her blade. Shizuru has a fair skin complexion, neither being too dark or too pale. She wears her reddish-brown hair long, with the ends easily reaching down past her waist. Her eyes are a deep, chocolate-brown in color. In terms of clothing, Shizuru usually dresses in a deep, midnight-blue kimono. It held in place by a dark purple sash and thin, brown rope. She wears a bracelet of prayer beads on her left wrist, while her right forearm is protected by a single, samurai armlet. She also sports a bandage around her upper right arm as well.

History

Shizuru lives the life of a sword for hire. As opposed to remaining established within one particular area of the region, she roams the country side and stops in various towns performing odd tasks. These jobs may range to helping with some household chores or serving as a bodyguard to slightly more shady deeds, such as stealing and helping those settle debts. Shizuru never asks questions when it comes to work, and she very rarely turns down a job if it helps to sustain her way of living for another day. In her mind, it isn't up to her to judge those who come looking to hire her services, so why should she care what those around her think of her.

For as long as she can remember, Shizuru has always been on her own. Even as a young child, she was left to fend for herself on the streets of a bustling city. She would often do whatever it took to keep herself alive, usually in the form of stealing food or acting as a pickpocket in order to keep herself from slipping into the cold embrace of death. While she was able to make sure that she never went completely hungry, the girl was never able to scavenge up enough money or food to properly sustain herself. Chances were that Shizuru would have most likely died on the streets as an orphan, had luck not been smiling upon her one fateful night. While wandering around the alleyways, Shizuru encountered a drunken old man who was stumbling down the road after a long day of gambling. Seeing him as an easy target, the girl attempted to steal whatever she could manage to get her hands on. In particular Shizuru noticed an ancient, yet well cared for katana blade hanging from the man's left hip. Figuring the sword would be able to fetch quite the pretty penny, the child attempted to pilfer it from the old man. As one would expect, this attempt of theft met with less than desired results for Shizuru.

Despite his intoxicated state, the old man was able to easily subdue the would-be thief. With one solid blow, he was able to knock Shizuru unconscious, thereby stopping the attempt on his precious katana blade. While the old man could have easily left Shizuru there with her face down in the dirt for the fates, he instead made the decision to bring the defeated child home with him. It was here, that the child was given an ultimatum, as soon as she regained consciousness. She could either live in the man's rather small shack of a home and become his personal servant or she could return to her life on the streets where she would most likely meet her end. Needless to say, Shizuru chose the first option.

At first, Shizuru kept her distance from the old man. While she would perform household chores, cook his meals, and serve him drinks, the girl never really let herself get to comfortable around him or make any attempt to truly get to know him. The old man seemed to be just fine with that, as he really hadn't let Shizuru stay with him to serve as some sort of companion in the first place. There was however, one facet of the man's life that Shizuru found completely fascinating. Despite the man's age and addictions to drinking and gambling, he would always take the time every day to practice and train with his sword. When he would undergo this training, he seemingly became a different person. His movements were much more fluid and graceful. His concentration was much more focused. For some reason, Shizuru could not look away whenever the old man was training. He was not blind to this development, and out of complete surprise to the girl, he decided to spend a little time every day properly teaching her how to handle the blade.

As time passed, a bond finally began to forge between the two. No longer did they view each other as servant and master, but rather as student and teacher. Shizuru was quick to pick up on the old man's various sword techniques, even going as far as to take his surname for her own. She still took time out of her day to prepare his meals and perform housework, but she no longer seemed to mind it as much as she once used to. Unfortunately, these times of joy would not last for Shizuru. Eventually, the old man became deathly ill and passed away. Shizuru did not have the money to afford to live and eat as she once did when under the old man's care, so she was forced back out onto the streets once more. Her only possession being the katana blade the old man had once wielded himself. While Shizuru could have sold it to gather some form of money, she instead chose to keep the blade in honor of the old man's kindness and out of respect for his time as her teacher.

Thankfully, Shizuru would not have to live her life alone forever. During her many travels as a wandering sword for hire, the young woman encountered a wild Poochyena who, like she herself had once been, was on the verge of starving to death. Shizuru was not sure why, but she suddenly felt compelled to take the wild Poochyena with her, eventually forming a bond that in a way reminded her of the one she used to have with the old man. She decided to name the Pokémon Kumori, and the two have been partners ever since.

Strengths

Shizuru is a dedicated and driven individual. Once she begins a job, she will do everything in her power to see it through. Emotionally strong, there is very little that ever seems to truly bother the young woman. She takes it upon herself to approach every situation with a calm, cool, and calculating judgement, always sizing up her opponent before carelessly engaging in a battle that she knows she may not be able to win. While her swordplay is refined, Shizuru knows that she cannot always just rely on her might alone. As a result, she able to battle skillfully thanks to the bond she has formed with Kumori.

Weaknesses

While she never seems to show anything like worry or fear, Shizuru for the most part seems to show little emotional at all. The girl seems to prefer to keep to herself more often than not, only allowing her Mightyena to truly ever get close. Shizuru has a strong distrust of other humans in general and over time has come to see them as nothing more than a source for making money. Despite her role as a sword for hire, Shizuru is not capable of swimming.

Spoiler:

Name: Tashi. Family name born Komekai, but renounced it and became Tashi Ryuukai instead.
Gender: Female
Age: 26

Appearance: Rose blonde

History: Born the daughter of merchants in a larger city, Tashi's life was decent for the first half. But she made the mistake of falling in love with a pirate passing by. She fell in love with his lifestyle and believed him when he said he would bring her with him on his awesome adventures. Unfortunately, he only used her to get his hands on her father's goods and wealth, and left her without as much as a goodbye. He left something else though: a baby. Out of shame, Tashi's father cast her away from the family and forbade her from using the name Komekai anymore. She was left to her own on the streets, increasingly pregnant. Managing to flee to the countryside and getting sanctuary in the home of a kind, poor farmer family, she had her baby without complications.

During her pregnancy, she was careful, but had to learn a few less legal things in order to stay alive with no work or skills beyond her mercantile charm and charisma. When her baby was born, she left it with the farmer family for several years, but returned every few months because despite her hatred for the pirate, she couldn't bear casting away her innocent child the way her own family had done her. When the boy was 3, Tashi named him Akai and decided that she wanted to take him with her.

Now, Akai has turned 10 years old, and mother and son are getting each other through every new day together in Hesui. Keeping up an appearance of being merchants of rare goods to the authorities, the Ryuukai are indeed in the business of dealing with rare items and goods, but they also happen to act as thieves or bounty hunters when the customer demands it. In certain underground circles, it is well known that Tashi and her pokémon can retrive desired items or people more efficiently than most.

While Tashi couldn't care less about who rules the region, as she will break their laws just as much anyways, Akai is a dreamer and wishes that life and the world was different. He also contemplates the way his mother and others order their pokémon around, and wonders if it is actually wrong...

Strengths: (What is your character good at doing, and what do you think are the positive sides of your character?)

Weaknesses: (What is your character... not so good at? What are their negative sides?)

Species: Decidueye
Moveset: (Your pokemon can have up to 6 moves; regardless of species, it can learn any move up to level 30, as well as one egg move, one move tutor move, or one TM move).

Species: Honedge
Moveset:

Species: Wartortle
Moveset:
Is actually more of Akai's pokémon and likes him more than Tashi.

A Dream of Blind Destiny...

Shuichi / Male / 21 Years Old

Himura.Kenshin.full.551192.jpg

Name: Akiyami Shuichi
Gender: Male
Age: 21
Sacred Mark: 影 (Shadow)
Appearance: See that totally awesome picture above.

History: Orphaned as an infant, Shuichi was taken in by the leader of a small village of ninja, known as the Akiyami or "Red Shadows." Shuichi was raised a ninja, and, like all ninja in Akiyomi, at the age of ten, he was allowed to choose a partner Pokemon to aid him in his training, and to be a constant in their ever changing, ever evolving world: Shuichi chose a Rockruff, which he named Kiba.

Years passed, whispers of a civil war were quieted by celebration. Shuichi's brother had surpassed even their father, and was to be crowned the new leader of the Akiyami. It was to be a joyous celebration, a time of honoring old traditions and starting new ones. As his brother took his place between their mother and father, and the three stepped forward to greet the crowd…

A deafening burst, a vibrant light-- an explosion. Someone had hidden a landmine on their most sacred ground.

As the charred remains of his family fell lifelessly to the ground, chaos erupted: Screams of terrified children were quickly silenced as a group of masked figures made themselves known. Shocked, confused, and unequip, the Akiyami were no match for these faceless invaders.

Staring at the still smoldering bodies of his family, Shuichi was frozen in shock, until a particular voice cried out to him: Ayame, his fiance, rushes towards him, brilliant green eyes full of fear. She ran towards him, reached for him, and as he took her hand…

Those brilliant green eyes lost their light.

As Ayame collapsed into Shuichi's arms, he saw it, an arrow had pierced her neck.

Incapable of rational thought, Shuichi drew his sword and rushed for one of the masked figures; a large, bulky figure wearing a deep crimson robe. He had to be their leader, and he had to die. In his mind's fury, Shuichi remembers very little of the battle that took place: Only being defeated and thrown to the ground, a deeply amused voice chuckling as it jerked his sword from his hand.

"One day, you'll come find me. Until then, you must remember me." A deranged voice whispered as it used Shuichi's own blade to carve an X shaped mark into his face.

Strengths:

Shuichi is intelligent, highly analytical, and an excellent strategist on the battlefield. He is aware the Pokemon he has taken in as his partners are not the strongest physically, and makes up for this by creating strategies that make certain they will not be touched in battle. As can be surmised by such a habit, Shuichi is kind hearted to human and Pokemon alike, seemingly unable to leave a cry for help ignored. Shuichi's ninja training has given him the ability to stay calm and levelheaded, even in the most stressful or dangerous of situations, with...one or two exceptions.

Weaknesses:

Shuichi suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, which is most often set off by loud noises. Shattering glass, a falling tree, etc, such sounds often send him to his knees as the flashbacks of that night play over and over again.

Though kind to those he meets, Shuichi remains constantly guarded, almost to the point of paranoia. The people that came after his village were masked, making it impossible for him to know if the person he is speaking with was a part of it. This thought swirls in his mind and nearly consumes him, leading him to be incredibly closed off-- and constantly moving. Since that night, Shuichi has never stayed in a single place for more than a few days. Staying in one place for too long is simply more than his anxiety can handle.

Name: Kenji Herufaia
Gender: Male
Age: 22
Sacred Mark: 火

Appearance: Stands at about 5'7 with reddish brown eyes and a slightly tan skin tone. Kenji is usually seen wearing a black loose fitting shirt underneath a bamboo chest plate and pauldrons that are painted red with black markings here and there along with sandals and black pants that have a series of red stripes running down the sides of his legs. His left arm wrapped in a black cloth covering up a burn injury. Kenji also wears a red headband that his brown hair slightly hangs over and a belt with a sheath and kama on each side of his body.

History: Kenji grew up on a small farm on the outskirts of a small village. At the age of five, Kenji stumbled across a pokémon egg exploring the forests near his home. The boy brought it home. He knew his parents wouldn't approve of him having a pokémon, as they considered these creatures too dangerous to keep around the house, so he hid the egg in his room. However, the pokémon within the egg decided it was ready to see the world and made its way through the hard shell that same night. The newborn Scyther was too much for the boy to handle and his parents quickly discovered Kenji's secret pet. As the Kenji fought with his parents to allow the pokémon to stay, Scyther ran into the fields and began hacking at their crops. His parents realized the pokémon's usefulness in harvesting grain and reluctantly let their son keep the creature around. Kenji and his Scyther, Gurimu, were practically inseparable as the pair grew up together.

As Kenji watched Gurimu working in the fields he was amazed by the quick slashing movements of the pokémon's scythe hands and thus decided to learn those moves himself. When he wasn't working in the fields Kenji would be training with Gurimu, using dual kamas against his pokémon's natural blades. This training ultimately lead to him becoming the village protector, often fighting off wild pokémon or bandits. This position caused Kenji to gain great popularity with the people of his village but also quite a few jealous enemies.

One day when Kenji was eighteen, he and Gurimu were taking their daily stroll through the small market square, there were only two stalls but the village was still proud enough to call it a market, everything changed. The village was attacked and burned down by a gang of bandits. Kenji was knocked unconscious by a building collapsing on him. When he awoke hours later he and his pokémon made their way back home only to find it engulfed in flame as well, only this time with the military standing outside. One of the soldiers confronted him and held out a letter, informing Kenji that he was under arrested for paying off bandits to burn the village. Kenji and Gurimu did their best to fight off the soldiers but were no match.

Kenji managed to break free while being transported to prison and has been wandering from town to town ever since, evading the military and hoping to find the person who framed him.

Strengths: Quick thinker. While making rash decisions can typically be considered a bad thing it is also a helpful trait as things don't often go as planned and thus it is necessary to think of new solutions on the spot.

Weaknesses: Sometimes gets too focused on a certain task and becomes oblivious to his surroundings. Can be a little too confident in his own abilities.
Starter Pokemon

Species: Scyther (Male)
Nickname: Gurimu
Moveset: Silver Wind, Slash, Pursuit, False Swipe, Focus Energy, Wing Attack
Wears a headband similar to Kenji's.

Species: Misdreavus (Female)

Species: Flareon (Female)

Dan Suiden / Male / 18 Years Old / 土

200

Appearance

At 5' 10", Dan is tall, but lean for a farmer. Lean as he may be, he's still pretty sturdy, years of working on a farm giving him some solid muscle and a dark complexion to go with it. His eyes are light brown, with messy hair of a similar color. He dresses simply, with leather boots, white pants, and a blue tunic belted with a length of cord. Though he used to wear a conical straw hat, the threat of war has forced him to trade it for a helmet (pictured above).

History

Dan was born on a family farm in a small village just a stone's throw from the nation's capital. As the second son of the family, he was never expected to take over the family business, but he learned to work the job and care for the land just the same. While his elder brother was being trained to run the farm, Dan was sent to the city to live with an aunt and uncle, where he received a more formal training, including how to fight and capture Pokemon.

Dan lived in the city for only a year or so before tragedy struck. There was an accident, and his parents were both killed, leaving taking care of the farm (and a new baby sister) to his brother and elderly grandmother. Dan returned to the farm to help his family, and as the designated Trainer, it fell to him to care for the Pokemon there.

As the years went by, the family managed to recover somewhat, and Dan considered leaving again. The choice was taken out of his hands after he turned eighteen, when a need for soldiers and his prior combat training led to him being drafted into the militia. As a soldier, he was expected to fight for his country to help uphold the peace, although with war looming on the horizon he found himself wishing to return to the quiet country life.

Strengths

Dan is well versed in practical skills such as animal handling, fishing, and cooking, with his time on the farm even teaching him about foraging and what plants are edible or not. He is an avid learner, and his time in the city gave him a versatile skill set. In his quest to improve himself and find his true potential, he has become a bit of a jack of all trades.

Weaknesses

Dan remains a country boy at heart, with some still seeing him as a bumpkin from the sticks. He is rather lacking in social skills, much preferring the company of Pokemon to other people, and his slow drawl and colorful euphemisms sometimes make him hard to understand. On top of that, he's a bit of a coward, and while he can muster up enough courage to defend himself, he is reluctant to enter battle, further earning him scorn from his fellow soldiers.

Pokémon

83-Farfetchd.png

Dan's Farfetch'd, named Bo, actually belonged to his father before he belonged to Dan. Bo actually trained as a warrior, and finds the life of a farmer relaxing by comparison, so he's usually in a good mood. He's getting older, and treats his job like a peaceful retirement, but he's still a stick-wielding samurai duck when he needs to be.

Moveset: Leaf Blade, Fury Cutter, Aerial Ace, Knock Off, Slash, Swords Dance

54-Psyduck.png

Psyduck was the first Pokemon Dan captured, a rambunctious little fowl he named Kawa. She doesn't much care for life on the farm, despite her abilities making her very good at it, and instead dreams of a life of adventure and excitement. As a result, she is often grumpy and tends to lash out at others, especially when her headaches are particularly bad. Despite this, she's not very good at fighting.

Moveset: Clear Smog, Scratch, Water Gun, Confusion, Water Pulse, Disable

672-Skiddo.png

Despite being primarily a vegetable farm, the Suiden farm also raises Skiddo, such as Yagi, Dan's first Pokemon. As soon as he was allowed to own a Pokemon, his mother gifted him one of the young Skiddo, and the two have been inseparable best friends ever since. Yagi is very agreeable, getting along well with both the mellow Bo and the irritable Kawa, apparently content with whatever life throws at him as long as his friends are by his side.

Moveset: Vine Whip, Leech Seed, Razor Leaf, Synthesis, Bulldoze, Bulk Up

Name: Sota Hou
Gender: Male
Age: 26

Appearance: White hair in a ponytail. Pretty tall, yellow eyes, thin. Wears a white/gold Yukata, in contrast to Mandibuzz.

History: Sota was always considered the brains among children. He grew up on a mountain, in a small village near Hojiro, in a mini-region pushing for war and progression when Hesui's leadership grew complacent and philosophies stagnant. Hee was an only child. While his father was a strong fighter, his mother was as smart as Sota was. His parents had very differing views on Pokémon. His father believed pokémon were purely tools, while his mother believed Pokémon and humans should co-exist together, and should be used as partners. Even with this disagreement, they still loved eachother. Sota shared this belief with his mother. He loved playing Shogi, and often played with the village elder, to see if he could ever beat him. Unfortunatly, he never did beat him, much to Sota's dismay. This got Sota quite frustrated. He received a baby Vullaby from his parents. His dad's Braviary and Mandibuzz were mates. Vullaby is quite a defenseless Pokémon though, so it was hard for it to get stronger without help.

One day, the people of the village had enough of Sota's mother's beliefs. They planned to lynch her. Sota's father was told of this. Out of love for his wife and his child, he warned them to run out of the village and into Hojiro. This is what they did. Sota was forced to leave his father, his village, and everyone he knew about. After a few days, they arrived in a village in Hojiro, where they settled down.

Vullaby would train everyday with her mother everyday. Sota would go along with the older kids and hunters. He got a lot of experience in the field of strategy that way. Since Vullaby was pretty defenseless, he couldn't fight in the front lines. The discipline and resolve found in Sota to become a better strategist, pushed him to become a decent tactician-for-hire. Eventually, Vullaby evolved into Mandibuzz, after enough training with her mother. At the age of 23, he left the village to look for his father, who he hasn't seen in years. He became a strategist-for-hire to earn his keep. It was hard finding a job at first, but eventually, he managed to make a decent name for himself as a strategist.

Currently, Sota was just done with his most recent job. He is know wandering around, looking for a new job.. and his father.

Strengths: Sota is a very smart strategist, and knows how to get out of even the most dangerous situations. You can always rely on him, as long as you pay him enough money, of course.

Weaknesses: Sota is physically weak, has a weak stomach, and is way too serious. He doesn't take jokes very well, as he most of the time, doesn't even understand them. He also hates it if anyone is better than him in the way of strategy.

Starter Pokemon

Species: Mandibuzz

Personality: Unlike most Mandibuzz, Sota's Mandibuzz is friendly and calm. She wishes to rather solve things with words, rather than fighting.

Name: Mori Ryu (龍)
Gender: Male
Age: 52
120px-Mon_mori.JPG

The mon of the Mori clan.

History: History: Born to the Daimyo of Dosai, his family was affluent, noble and powerful. The clan, Mori-shi, held many rice paddies and owned quite a few tracks of land. His father taught him from a young age quite conservative views of the world, teaching him in the finer arts, philosophy, swordplay, management, and most of all, the art of command, able to order both men and monsters.

Ryu's mother named him Dragon for a reason; growing up, his temper was something not to messed with. During older teenage years, he could not stand unruly subordinates.(三) His father was training him to manage and rule on his own, so as an exercise, his father gave him a few fields to look after. A farmer pelted a stone at him when he was touring the new fields with Aki-sama, his revered grandfather, a rogue malcontent farmer grabbed a stone and lobbed it towards his direction. It missed Ryu and struck the old man in the arm. The thin man was pushed over by the force, and Ryu stormed over in anger, calling on the guards to start searching for culprit. It is said he even burned down some of his own crops with Fire-Monsters to find them, some say he took his katana and carved a path through the rice and weeds to find the perpetrator, other's say he sent a legion of his personal guard to storm the fields and interrogate anyone who witnessed it, killing them after they extracted the answers. No one answer is known to be the truth. The criminal was nowhere to be found, so he insisted they work double-hard to make up for the pain they inflicted on his grandfather.

After a small punishment for his anger, his father praised him on his ability to protect the family and suppress rebellion. His father had known Ryu had a fire inside him from his fights with his younger siblings during his child years. His mother felt it in her heart to name him, Dragon from the moment he was born. Father knew that he couldn't change a fundamental part of his son, it was fated for him to have this beast inside him, so he taught him to control his anger, to utilize it in special ways. Working with his father through his many years, he tamed his inner rage in to a deft tool. Today, as his sons know, he may seem calm, but when his voice lowers and that deathly glare descends upon you, that is when he is truly angry. On his twenty fifth year, when he was studying with the monks of the mountains to learn the things only they can teach him, his father had passed away leaving Ryu as the head of the family. He made his way back to his home province and he succeeded his father as Daimyo.

Ryu ruled well, he was harsh when he needed to be, his rage was rare but ferocious when justified, it was one thing consistent throughout his life. His anger burned bright hot, but it was always for a reason. Ryu brought three children in to this world, now all grown, his oldest sons have grown to maturity and manage the clan together as Ryu gets older. The youngest, named Asukai, is rather rogue-like with his disdain for his father's authoritarian grip and strict rules, often openly disregarding Ryu's rules and orders to spite him. Frequently stumbling back home drunk out of his brains or dragging along whomever he seeks to bed that night back to the castle. Ryu doesn't often talk much about Asukai, for obvious reasons. When asked, he is tempted to say he has only two sons because of his reckless behaviour and blatant disrespect, however the strength of Mori-shi means so much to Ryu that he will not disown Asukai.

His oldest sons, Dasu and Monori are his pride and joy. They took over the micromanaging for the Daimyo, however as the head of the family Ryu still makes political maneuvers for them. However his faith has always been very important to Ryu and when he finds this mark on him, he takes it as a divine signal to him to leave. While he partakes in this pilgrimage, he has given the full command to his oldest sons. Entrusting Dasu to look after Asukai, especially awaiting the chaos of his upcoming twentieth birthday, he departed, escorted by two of his favourite samurai, who one might consider his friends, if a man like Ryu can have any friends.

Strengths: Over many years of being the head of the house, he has become adept in diplomacy and politics. Unlike some of the others who posess the sacred mark, he uses pokemon solely as tools and has an overt disregard for their worth, only worth their intrinsic value to him. He is rather good at command. (See 一) He can intimidate with his infamous rage and deep voice. (See 二) He has two samurai retainers (Eko and Totoru.) escorting him, along with a Yari Ashigaru (spear foot soldier) (See 四)

Weaknesses: (二)Ferocious anger when unleashed. (一) He isn't used to having little power. Because of his advancement in age, when isolated he can become powerless. He gets irritated by insuborination. He'll often react too harshly to relatively minor events (See (三) the Rock Episode in his History.) He is generally ignorant of things he doesn't accept or understand. He won't let his view of the world be challenged. His harsh treatment of his footsoldiers (Ashigaru 四) and general subordinates creates a lot of tension between them, given the chance, they might rebel or betray him.

FAMILY HISTORY ~
----It begins small, as histories of oft recital usually do, with a single man: the first Fujī was but an artisan, poor and of meager craft, as intrinsic to the whole of Hesui as a grain of rice. But if not for acknowledging his futility, there may have never been a legacy in his wake. It was ambition which created a warrior out of the man, dedication which saw the rehabilitation of his Pokemon, first assistants in his craft, into vassals of battling prowess.
----The First became, ultimately, a mercenary of great competence by what his lineage suspects his nineteenth year of age — all the younger is all the more inspiring. It was then by remaining honest to his character across multiple loyalties within the fractured region that he attained an additional charisma about him. To be a warrior was to travel across great distance, and by speaking his mind on the condition of the state — as esteemed a figure as he was eventually becoming — a following was fast to emerge. Thus, to the primitive state of Hesui, Fujī became both idyllic and dangerous.
----Thus still, with comprehensive support, the first Fujī thought, Why not rebel against the families whose livelihoods of which I am owed? Why must I serve the strong when I myself may become just as, if not more, powerful? It was the great conquest, led by this mindset, of a providence at the heart of the region — as a Spearow targets a Magikarp and the slaughter feels both righteous and cyclical — and, with a dignified portion of property under his thumb, the first Fujī became content and, amidst his followers, took his initial opinions of political and economic relevance and put them to paper.

----From there began the founding of the Fujī clan, a powerful band of elite merchants and artisans who followed the principles of their ascendant as they would scripture of faith. Within their landlocked pocket at Hesui's capital, they owned much and became wealthy through marine trade routes branching off its ports, the same which they taxed regularly.
----The Fujīs valued wit and productivity, their ranks consisting of negotiators, advisers, and indispensable inventors. It is the Fujī clan that has been credited for establishing recurrent maritime exchange with far-neighboring regions, and throughout its history, there is enough to suggest that this trade brought great influences of militaristic and technological development to the whole of Hesui.

----Considering themselves irreplaceable, the Fujīs maintained a vault of records recounting their past achievements — they employed various speakers and reciters to ensure their legacy was never forgotten — their dedication shows, considering the entourage of sources left for modern historians to analyze.
----It can be drawn from these records that the Fujīs were a proud and avaricious community who consumed acres of farmland and, with it, accomplished little, simply possessed it. In their pride, they established a culture all their own, one where there with an elite class to their elite class; a rift had long existed between the direct descendants of the first Fujī and those derivative of his followers long before the daimyō saw his downfall. Quoted, too, are non-descendants' scorn towards "degeneracy" within that upper-elite, what with Fujī's first and only son having married a prostitute at the eerily late age of 32, as well as criticism towards the reliance on Pokemon rather than human forces to conduct matters of labor, domestic assistance, and defense.
----Nonetheless, in their ownership of key trading routes, there was a lasting relationship between the royal family and the Fujī, proving any questionable elements of their rule were rarely discussed in most civil discussion. Many direct Fujīs held positions as royal advisers to the empress in-exchange -- essentially, life in luxury, more than they were already guaranteed.

----To protect their long-standing prosperity, property, and noble importance, it was not uncommon for many clans — Fujī included — to hire samurai, offshoots of the warriors who have wandered Hesui for centuries. The samurai were Pokemon with the bodies of men and hearts of beast who were raised under bushido code to, ultimately, serve as independent warriors to the wealthy. As monsters during the late current era, any intimacy was removed by their employment, and by extension, the challenge many upper class individuals had of committing to a warrior lifestyle.
----Nonetheless, tradition outweighed all in Hesui; Pokemon samurai were a comparatively new development, and warrior kind were still regularly employed throughout the time period to retain the rivalries of warring clans.

----Alas, families did not fall solely for being strongly opposed. It was inner conflict which tore through the Fujī's empire. Ironically, the samurai must have played some part, as evidence of many such Pokemon lying wounded and discarded proved, in the original siege of Lord Fujī's estate, they were explicitly targeted. Historians suggest a dispute over enlistment — who had done so, who was therefore entitled to their service — combined with disparate priorities.
----There was but one Lord, a direct descendant of the first, Fujī Yamato; within the family, then, must have been another figurehead of unrecognized but equivalent significance. All the same, Lord Fujī and his wife fell with their incensed estate. Their son fled to the wildlands with what family of his and theirs had survived, as well as two obligated samurais and an oracle.

----This is that man's story, then, and where it officially began.

CHARACTER ~
----Raiho-sama comes across as a sad little person, once he's pointed out to you by Mistress. If otherwise, the child-like man may have been gobbled up in your peripheral by these great leaders of Hesui. In this tensely-proper atmosphere — you'd thought you'd grown benumbed to it, but him sitting off from the circle of bowing men throws a rift in your routine here.
----Raiho-sama is very patently paying no attention to the democratic matters at hand, tracing the matted floor with a pudgy finger. There is a negligence all about him; beneath the brilliant armor tied to him, there's a void of distinguished silk, and you notice the loose pant legs of sleepwear spilled onto the floor behind the dignitary. An eboshi is barely pulled onto his head — barely set to fit him. Altogether, Raiho-sama seems uncomfortable being here, though you doubt, in his concern with himself, he is even self-aware of that fact — a shadow cast across his face as he looks down and away from the meeting.
----So small, and so portly, he becomes pitiable. But the way he burdens that royal red like a fieldworker their plough makes him unforgettable to you.
----What excuse could one have for sullenness in lordship? To be feel saddled with privilege was to feel weighed by weightlessness. Suddenly, the ignorance of this man and the ignorance feigned towards his presence has become irritating to you, as if it an act of inherent disrespect. You are the only figure in this room who has seen any semblance of upwards mobility, who has suffered to taste the sweet ambrosia of power by being here.
----In your impatience, you tug Raiho-sama's sleeve to redirect his attention.
----Ah, but with that comes the abandonment of his belying disposition, of his slouching, downcast inattentiveness. Snap — the sad little man comes alight with immediate fury:
----"Nuaagh, worthless indenture! You monster, don't mar me with those purpled, blistered hands, you ugly wretch, parading about like a womandisgusting — you smell like frostburn, you freak, you cold-blooded bitch, you black-skinned beast, you blond-haired… parasite," he spits. "Don't touch me, don't touch me, don't touch me!"
----Wailing, wailing, with his fat face red — the room falls silent through his tumultuous tantrum. And with the final plea ringing off screen walls, Raiho-sama is unprofessing of his outburst and gallops to his feet and out the room.
Knowledgeable; though he rarely apply his scholarly understanding, he can comfortably preach aspects of literature and science to others. He has also familiarized himself loosely with military techniques, though he has never been at the forefront of a war-like conflict himself.
Can make reasonable decisions at the spur of the moment and has a ready amount of cleverness.
Horrendous with people; has zero communication skills and is void of empathy.
Passive, doormattish; he relies on others to make critical decisions in his place, and doesn't attempt to contend with stronger personalities.
PERSONAL HISTORY ~
Son of daimyō, daimyō born
Broken geta, bottoms worn
Running from relations torn
Not provided time to grieve
Starved for justice
And starved for those meat paddies my mother always made me
Before she died, and now I chew alone on her cadaver
Not literally, for that would be gross.
She and my father join in a realm unknown
Fringed by fire and splintered wood.

O, tragic day, when I was born
After 30 years of yearning
My mother's womb a-burning
And out pops a baby. Rejoice!
For his Lordship has birth a sire.
The Fuji will rule, their torch passed and lit by a great spray of embers,
Daiho.
(That's my name.)
The spark of life is paraded as that of God.

Even a child can be claimed by death
I hang my head and bade my breath
My teacher speaks none, shows no face
I sit and stare, he starts to pace
And finally, he says, "No mistakes."
I am a scholar at age eight.
My childhood, coddled in enclosed space,
I recall as muddled monotony,
Greying like an expired paste.

My father loves me dearly,
And gives me opportunity
Overseas on massive ship
At twenty years, I clench my grip
But I still vomit into the sea
A hurtling mass of color, fizzling — bubbling — dissolved.
A fitting image of my career of a merchant:
Two months of nausea by sea,
And a month of horror, fearfulness, etcetera.

I fear, in those endless crowds of people,
I fear, upon that foreign soil, of which I know and understand no one,
I fear, in my own insecurity, as I am surrounded by my father's brilliance and I can say nothing,
I fear, because the voices never stop,
They never stop
They never stop,
So I write them down on paper.
In what I hope is a twinge of ingenuity, I turn to poetry.

I am still very fat
Not massively, not noticeably,
Fat with sadness liquidized like a raincloud
Threatening to explode into a black, dribbling haze
Fat drops of ink conjured by this lasting self-hatred
Of this lasting disappointment, I bring you
Art.

I sleep a lot
This is where my true adulthood begins
Sleeping
I turn from the cold fire to the hearth; a scholar I am again
Writing poems, only poems, forever, alone on an estate purchased for me.
I do not take care of it, my mind racing with thoughts on the human condition.
I am discovered amidst keeled, rotted crops in a paper garden
Black penmanship and ideas white-hot
My father allows inhabitance of his estate — a return to form, to comfort
Like a mother Swellow returning again, again, again to her nest
But on only one condition:
Me — Fuji Raiho — both scholar and consultant
Both not true professions, for at heart, I am an artist
And also neither pay anything, hence not being actual jobs.

Still, to consult is to sell one's soul
To communication and civil meetings
Dark robes fill my mind, a black space which should be colored with ink,
And again I live surrounded by my own inability
Until the war.

I do not fight, though I have armor
It is those beasts of labor
Shedding fieldwork so naturally for bloodshed
And I watch with my father as they defend our land,
Our namesake, for our sake.
Snarling, clawing animals
And suddenly I feel real small
Yet can I stop it? Not at all
The conflict like inundation
Ricefields red, ricefields very red.
They should return to whence they came
For I do not like these humanesque creatures
Symbols of doom and societal decay
Though I suppose I am also a part of that.

I realize, writing, my life lacks glamour at all
A family I have, though I suspect they will fall
Where hence has Sakura gone? She bore children and left
Two twin girls and son, and yet again I feel deft
In their caretaking. Am I truly a father, I wonder?
Truly an heir? An accountant, a brother?
I am technically, obviously, neither of those latter things.
I am only a poet, though a dream alluded
To a sense of finality; its content I cannot explain
Or remember, except for darkness and passing rain
Sweat on my brow, I run to the oracle to see
If what I saw was prophecy
But then smoke and arrows fill the sky
And I am gawking passerby
The death of Fuji, death of comfort,
Death of Hesui, death of everything
Why can't I just die too?

"The Martyrdom of Life," Fuji Raiho.

WHAT REMAINS OF THE FUJI ESTATE ~
jynx
Yukiko // JYNX

[Knows] Blizzard (TM), Mean Look, Double Slap, Ice Punch, Disarming Voice, Fake Tears
[Has] Foresight — Inherent precognition, arising through visions and "flashes."

[Was initially a domestic servant within the Fujī household, hatched as a Smoochum and indoctrinated into proper vassalage. She was seen as "hideous" with her blonde hair, bulbous lips, and uncanny human-ness by the human maids, and her mistress — wife of Lord Fujī himself —often subjected Yukiko to physical and verbal abuse if she made a mistake. This sparked an inner impertinence, and the Pokémon began to fall back onto her natural abilities suffocated by domesticality. It was through mastering these that she evolved from a servant to an oral reciter and diviner for the Fujī family, finding a use both for her psychic powers and capability of pantomiming human speaking patterns. She knows not the language — the humans seem to find great astral meaning in it, though.

[Also has] has become proud in that of staying true to her character and refusing to acknowledge disrespect. Yukiko thinks disdainfully of human women for their deference but is contemptuous towards mankind as a whole and especially dislikes being coaxed to speak their language outside of recitation. She believes, perhaps verdantly, that strength is defined by physical dominance.

Dressed in a white kimono over her red vestment-like body. She revels in regal hairstyles — waxed-back buns, top knots, accentuating headdresses and combs.
magmar
Sun // MAGMAR

[Knows] Fire Blast (™), Fire Spin, Fire Punch, Flame Burst, Clear Smog, Feint Attack
[Has] Flame Body — Don't touch the butt…!

[Is] the brother of Raijin and Ojō, as well as a samurai warrior, indoctrinated into the lifelong code of bushido. He remained in the heartland of Hesui, being exchanged between multiple weaker families as a personal guard. He made an especial friendship with the daughter of a merchant who taught him to read basic characters — though he cannot pronounce them — and it is believed she continues to send him drawings to this day. Eventually, he came in near-permanent alliance with the Fujīs, uniting with his brother, Raijin. The death of Ojō — his closest sibling and friend — struck him the greatest.

[Is also] self-conscious of his strength, as well as envious of his brother's, and feels especially alone in his existence. Resultantly, he clings to the bushido of which his life is founded as his entire purpose, and can therefore be quite domicile outside of fighting, in spite of his intelligence and empathy.

[Dressed] hitatare-style in muted colors indicative of lower status, the sleeves rimmed with singe and the Fuji insignia inscribed on his breast. Gnarled claws jutt from worn, wooden sandals. Dons a conical hat obscuring all but his beak from most angles, supposedly as to not be the butt of any jokes.
electivire
Raijin // ELECTIVIRE

[Knows] Hammer Arm (Egg), Thunder Wave, Electro Ball, Shock Wave, Ion Deluge, Swift
[Has] Motor Drive — Conducting excess electricity houses beneficial effects.

[Is] the brother of two Magmar, Sun and Ojō, as well as a samurai warrior, indoctrinated into the lifelong code of bushido. From training completion, he was separated from his siblings, swept into foreign territory ruled by the warring daimyo of which he was hired. Warfare between this coastal family and northern nomadic races threatening their prosperity was near-continual, and at its bloody conclusion, he was forced to commit an act contradictory to his warrior code. Resultantly, he fled, in pursuit of his family in the heartland of Hesui. It is believed his additional evolution occurred in-part to being "traded" into the ownership a powerful family, as well as some exposure to excess energy.

[Is also] an enigmatic, grizzled creature with a prevailing sense of treachery to him. He is never first to react, but when affronted, there can be devastating consequence, considering years of wrought destruction; he seems unconcerned with righting any false assumptions. It is difficult to discern when Raijin is relaxed, serious, or upset, as he blends a taciturn expressionlessness with frequent mood swings. He can be a dangerous Pokemon to handle.

[Dressed] in massive slates of obsidian armor, though many pieces show their age, and some others are totally absent, though never his helmet. Everything is worn directly over his fur. A sheathed chokutō sword is haphazardly strapped to his side.

In the future, you can always reach out for feedback from the GM and other vying members of the roleplay if you're worried. I know at least two players made edits to strengthen their sign-ups before being accepted.
