Digital Warfare
In the distant future, virtual reality technology has evolved to all new levels and professional competitive gaming has evolved with it. Now where once people sat in front of screens, thousands flock to stadiums watch digital gladiators plug into powerful neurocomputers and transfer their very consciousness into digital arenas. Esports are now the most popular form of televised and live-viewed competitions by far. In a time of civil unrest, all struggles and differences can be put aside as society comes together to watch the spectacle of digital combat… or can they?

With the World Championships in their final stage, two teams of seven are about to find that's not necessarily the case. A malevolent third party has trapped them within the arena and this time they're playing for their lives. The only way to survive and escape is to defeat the other team.

Digital Combat and the Neurocomputers

Gladiators, as they are called, are plugged into a pod through a jack in the base of their neck and electrodes along their arms. These pods are connected to the neurocomputer which houses their consciousness during the game, transporting their minds into digital avatars that they can move as though they were their own bodies. Although no actual harm (usually) can occur to participants, their bodies feel actual sensations - including pain - from the conflict and this can put the body under a lot of stress if not properly trained.

The digital arena constructed is different every time with each of its seven segments being allocated a type of terrain. Spectators can watch the combat live on a large 3D display above the computer as it cycles through the various competitors or follow specific gladiators on personal devices.

The game is over when only one team remains.

Gladiators

Gladiators have their consciousness transferred to a digital avatar with an appearance they design themselves and special Skills selected from an officially recognised pool. Each gladiator on a team belongs to a specific class with their abilities and weaponry reflecting that class. On a team, no two players can share the same class. The classes are as follows:

Melee Classes
Knight: Knights are generally well-balanced fighters with their abilities spread quite evenly across offence, defence and agility. They typically wield bladed melee weapons like swords or polearms.

Brawler: Brawlers are unique among the various melee classes in that they prefer to fight unarmed. They have low defences but good agility and physical strength that makes them skilled martial artists.

Assassin: Assassins are generally low in both offensive power and defences but have extremely high agility and nasty Skills that hinder the opponent or accrue damage over time. Assassins are a speciality class, meaning there is a Skill they always carry. In this case, Camouflage, which allows them to blend into their surroundings for a while and become harder to see.

Bruiser: Bruisers are tanks. They're slow moving but can take hits well and dish that damage back out. They usually fight with weapons like axes, hammers or maces and tend to be more heavily armoured than others.

Berserkers: Berserkers are a unique speciality class with all of them carrying the Berserk Mode Skill. They begin battle with stats akin to those of a Bruiser but when activating their Berserk Mode switch, minimising their defences and maxing out their offences and agility. The more damage they have sustained, the more powerful their Berserk Mode.

Ranged Classes
Shooters: Shooters are the ranged equivalent of Knights. They have very evenly spread abilities and have little subtlety to them, preferring to engage the opponent head on - albeit from a distance. They can be seen wielding more archaic weapons like bows or crossbows or firearms.

Snipers: Snipers have all around low stats generally speaking. However, Snipers have the greatest range and accuracy of any of the classes preferring to take shots at the enemy from a great distance and out of harm's way. They are a speciality class with all Snipers possessing the Critical Shot skill that gives them a one-off attack with enormous damage output before it has to be recharged over time.

Artillery: The ranged equivalent of Bruisers, these guys are tanky but slow moving with poor agility. They generally carry big, hefty ranged weapons which have slow fire rates but heavy damage output. These weapons are usually things like RPGs or BFGs (heh) but it's not unheard of to see them pushing around a catapult or ballista.

Bombardiers: This class is similar to the Assassin in that they have extremely low offence and defence but very high agility. Something that sets them apart is that rather than carrying a single weapon, these guys usually have an entire arsenal of explosives that can be thrown or set as traps.

Mage Classes
Black Mage: Like all mages, Black Mages have generally low stats but possess additional Skill slots and generally powerful Skills. Black mages focus on offensive abilities with a high damage output.

White Mage: White mages are the opposite of Black Mages with their abilities tending to be reactionary or defensive. They are a speciality class that always possess the Heal Skill which can recover the health of themselves or allies with the recovery growing over the time the ability is in effect. As the only class that can possess this skill, the are also often the first casualties in a game.

Summoner: Summoners are possibly the most unique class as they generally rely on summoning minions to fight for them instead of directly engaging in combat themselves. Each minion they can summon takes up a Skill slot with other Skills generally being used to support their minions. Weak minions can be summoned in multiples but strong minions can only be summoned one at a time.

Wild Mage: Wild Mages are extremely unpredictable and versatile. They are a speciality class with the Wildshape Skill that allows them to shape shift into different animal or monster forms with different (albeit simplistic) abilities. Each Wildshape they have access to takes up a Skill slot. Untransformed Skills are also unpredictable as by nature they have randomised power levels having the potential to be monstrously powerful, pitifully weak or anything in between on any given use.

Need someone to be your Rei of sunshine in life? No worries there; I've got you covered.

...

Wow, that sounded a lot better in my head.

Spoiler:

EDIT: New skills, yay! Got gimmepie's approval for them, of course.

EDIT 2: There's also this other SU that started out as an idea brewing in my head (gimmepie's already given me the "okay" for it as well). Can't decide which SU to use, so I'll put the new one here for now. Once the IC thread rolls around, I'll delete the character I'm not planning on using (RIP).

Been eyeing this for a while. I think I got something decent. Last skill was hard to decide on. Let me know if anything needs changed.

EvilBarry!!!

AKA Beryl Hector Ramses

Age :22

Gender: Villainous Mastermind/Dark Lord of Evil… I mean male

Personality: Barry is the greatest and most evil genius of all time! Except for the part where greatest is a stretch… but not nearly as much of a stretch as evil. In fact, Barry is actually really nice in person. He's socially aware, very polite and can't stand to watch anyone right in front of him suffer, even if underneath those great manners he genuinely does think he's better than most other people. Barry inherited the massive intellect of his parents, who are both very successful chemists famous for being mad scientists thanks to their love of outlandish theories and risky experiments, sadly the only thing Barry really has the passion to throw that intelligence at fully is being a Gladiator.

In-game Barry has decided to portray himself as the ultimate Dark Lord of all Evil destined to rule the world, prone to maniacal laughter, monologues about his own greatness and the inferiority of others, theming both his abilityset and his characters' looks on looking intimidating and coursing with dark power with a slight human aspect to the darkness. He treats his enemies as insignificant worms destined to fall at his feet and his allies as more minions contributing to his evil army. Barry is so committed to this persona that he even keeps it up in the real world whenever he expects to be recognized because of his celebrity status, letting his over-the-top grandiosity act as a mask so most people have no idea who he is when acting like a regular(ish) person.

One aspect of the supervillain persona that carries over to the real Barry is a certain amount of paranoia and a strong distrust of others. Most of the fortune Barry has accrued from all the competitions and prizes he's won were put towards personal bodyguards(AKA IRL Minions) and a mansion built from the ground up to be as much like a villainous mastermind's evil lair as possible while still being comfortable to actually live in, complete with an extremely advanced security system and even a few honest to goodness traps. Publically this is all a part of his usual themes and aesthetics but in actuality Barry's always been suspicious of other people, blossoming into genuine constant fear for his own safety when fame brought stalkers and genuine enemies into his life. All this leading to crippling anxiety about how vulnerable his real body is whenever he's jacked into the game and the personal security so he could feel safe while continuing his life's work.

Thanks to the clever move of never divulging his middle name to anybody after childhood, Barry always introduces himself as Hector when he goes outside as himself, entirely divorcing himself as a person from himself as a player so he can at least try to feel like a normal person when he wants to go out and socialize or have dinner at a nice restaurant.

Appearance: 5'9 is the best Barry could ever do for height but that's the most average thing about him and he's never been a slouch for looks. A handsome, boyish face and a small, boopable nose combine with dazzling baby blue eyes, glossy raven black hair and creamy skin keep him from being self-conscious about his looks. However, even if he's always been a bit of a looker, Barry always had a terrible fashion sense, dressing poorly enough to be a laughable sight until he got some unsolicited advice from a friend that worked out rather well. That fashion sense of his never got much better but what he did develop a skill for was finding the right people to advise him whenever he needed a new look. Ever since fame and fortune found him he's never been without a personal stylist.

'Barry' only ever makes public appearances wearing elaborate getups that evoke warlocks and demons and evil wizards, his favorite being an oversized black and purple hoodie with small red horns on the hood and black cargo pants with either a royal purple or blood red hex pattern. The hood, of course, is always worn.

'Hector' tries to keep up with the latest fashions - as long as they aren't too outlandish - as dictated to him by his stylist but the one look that has grown on him enough to wear whether it's fashionable or not is a pair of nice, semi-formal closed lacing black dress boots with fresh blue skinny jeans and T-shirts with graphics referencing things he likes or jokes he finds funny. A quick switch to a white dress shirt and black blazer helps when it's time to be formally presentable all topped with left sideswept hair that leads to a slightly-too-long bang draping just a bit over his left eye.

Avatar Info

Character name: Ramses the Unstoppable

Class: Summoner

Appearance: Warlock robes matching the color scheme of Barry's celebrity persona and interspersed with demonic black and blood red armor, specifically elegant gauntlets, long spiky greaves that disappear up the robe and a thin breastplate to help him look less squishy, finished off by a helmet that would make Sauron blush, complete with glowing red eyes.

Weapon: Instead of a proper weapon Ramses has elaborate tattoos covering his body which focus his magic power and appear even over his armor when channeling his strength. These tattoos allow Ramses to transform any of his summoned creatures into a weapon at the cost of not being able to have any of that creature on the field while using their weapon. The weapon depends on the summon.

Skills

Anathema: Both Ramses weakest and most powerful summon, as well as his greatest claim to fame as a summoner because so few ever even unlock the ability, let alone manage to make good use of it. The Immortal Anathema is a dark being made up of a hivemind of tiny, barely perceptible floating black blobs that each have the slightest consciousness of their own, coming together to spread corruption and death to whatever they touch. Anathema is easy enough to avoid, light enough to shake off or break apart easily and doesn't do damage too quickly. The real threat of Anathema is that it is well and truly indestructible, the hivemind itself can exist on its own and suffers no damage when its blobs are destroyed and the blobs can come freely from their home dimension, reproducing indefinitely to their default number at a speed that makes them impossible to actually remove from the battlefield for more than a second or two.

Anathema is one of the only passive summons amongst all Gladiator games and is with Ramses at all times and though its offensive potential is limited unless it can get most of its body touching someone all at once, its defensive potential is not. Anathema can move much faster towards Ramses than it can away from him and he often uses it as a shield or like a wave of sludge to wash away whatever comes too close to him. Anathema is Ramses only summon that cannot be transformed into a weapon, though it is often used as if it were a floating weapon anyways. Anathema interacts uniquely with Domineering Will and when tethered to Ramses he can funnel more and more power into it to bring more blobs into the hivemind and increase its size and mass so it's harder to escape and has an easier time enveloping its prey.

Greg the Grumbler: A creature like a cross between an ogre and a Japanese oni. This Grumbler is a good nine feet tall, capped from head to toe in 'poison-green' armor that's not actually any tougher than his thick skin (Ramses' minions gotta look snazzy and EEEVIL) and swings around a club that constantly drips acid. He's slow but hits like a truck, and has high HP and damage resistances. He has no ranged offense besides occasionally throwing big rocks when he finds them. Greg transforms into an acid-buffed spiked warhammer when used as a weapon..

Coincidentally Barry's favorite real-life bodyguard is named Greg. Also coincidentally: the real Greg is not a fan of this.

Cherry Mogwart the Dark Faery: Cherry is a corrupted pixy - but hey that doesn't rhyme so Faery it is - who darts around the battlefield, pestering Ramses' enemies with weak but quick blasts of dark magic and whatever mischievous malefics she can muster. Cherry is extremely flimsy but so tiny and fast that she's very difficult to hit, especially since she rarely ever draws close to any of her targets. She occasionally makes toads fall from the sky towards people and loves using the other summons as shields. Cherry becomes a magic wand with a small beehive at the top when used as a weapon.

Sir Archibald Wickerthorn: A huge centaur from a particularly savage tribe of horse people that once sold their souls to a powerful demon and Ramses' 'Ultimate Ability' as it were. For whatever reason, Archibald is now in Ramses' hands instead of that demon, and he serves fiercely. Archibald is generally Ramses' ace in the hole, sometimes even taking on opponents entirely by himself. Clad from head to...hoof in crimson plate armor, this centaur looks like a demonic knight fused with his mount, his steps letting out little puffs of flame. Archibald either charges his foes with frightening speed and ground-shaking ferocity, massive flaming lance in one hand and scarlet tower shield in the other, or circles around his targets, drawing a bow bigger than most people and firing arrows that should really be called harpoons at them. Archibald becomes a flaming greatsword covered in runes when used as a weapon.

Domineering Will: A magic tether links Ramses to the chosen ally, sharing his power with them and significantly increasing all their stats or adding extra effect to their abilities at the cost of the ally having to stay within a set distance of him and his own energy draining relative to how much extra power they gain. Ramses can also use extra mana to heal his targets wounds over time so long as they remained linked to him. This ability can be used on minions but is significantly more mana efficient and powerful when used on another player.

Dark Portent: Ramses locks himself into place and channels all his will into summoning more power from unknown dark depths of another dimension, rapidly regenerating his mana at the cost of being unable to move or use any of his other abilities while channeling. Active summons can continue to fight while Dark Portent is being used, but must do so without Ramses' guidance and cannot draw on his strength until the ability is canceled or completed. If Ramses continues to use Dark Portent for 5 seconds after his mana is full his Domineering Will can be used for free for a limited time.

Will update the OP soon. Sephy is officially accepted.
I've been having some issue with making my SU happen so I may end up bowing out and just GMing. Either way it won't be long until we have an IC.
