Introduction

Pokémon Shadowstone was a game I thought of in 2010 with the help of SlamJamin. This is the second major attempt to make the game, as the first time we learned that idiotic 11-year-olds are not really cut out for game design. Six years later, here we are, and we've made more progress in three months than we did in two years of work on the first iteration. This game uses RMXP and Pokémon Essentials.

Story

It's not your birthday, but regardless of that today is the day you'll be receiving your first Pokémon from a recently set up Professor in a nearby town. Unbeknownst to you, the diabolical Team Chimera also has plans with the Professor, as he's developed a machine that could be very useful to them...

Through the brand new Jelra region, you chase down Team Chimera and their hostage Pokémon, but numerous trials await you. They control one of the biggest companies in the Pokémon world, Veloce Inc, and their admins will stop at nothing to impress their boss by smiting you. Your rivals, who start off as mere friends on a journey, soon become disillusioned, and may begin to question the morality of your choices. You can tear down Team Chimera from the inside or the outside, destroy the Delta Machine or harness its power to create the ultimate Pokémon! How will your story end?

Features

The Delta Species
Altered by the Delta Machine, many of the Region's Pokémon have been transformed into their Delta Forms - they've changed types, and have a new sprite and moveset to match. Pokémon can be converted to or from their Delta Forms using the Delta Machine at any time, provided the player has sufficient Machine Cores - the amount required varies according to the stats of the Pokémon.

Chaos & Reputation
This is a game about your actions, and so it should vary according to them. The game will change based on your choices - not literal choices as some games do, but in accordance with your playstyle. In current Betas, the changes are small, but Chaos & Reputation play a large role in the later portions of the game and will have a major effect on the ending.

Post-Beta Content
Instead of... um, stopping you before a wall of policemen, like some games (who shall remain nameless) do at the end of their Betas, many minigames and features unlock at the conclusion of Pokémon Shadowstone Beta 2, making the game worth playing even once the Beta's story has been completed. Several key Trainers will also rebattle you each day, and Mystery Gift will be available.

Inverse & Sky Battles
You know, those things? They were kinda fun for 5 minutes until everyone forgot they existed. Now they're back, until everyone forgets they exist again.
Quest Log
Your guide to the Jelra Region. The Quest Log will keep track of the numerous sidequests offered in the game, as well as your primary objectives. It can be set to notify you of new quests, or only when quests are completed, or to only be enabled for sidequests - or it can be disabled altogether. Mix-and-match the options and play your way.

The LiteWatch
A marvel of science, the LiteWatch™®© is an invaluable tool for any trainer. It comes with a built-in Town Map, Phone, Friendship Checker, Radio and Who's That Pokémon Minigame. While similar to the Pokégear/etch/Nav/etc, it introduces several unique features, such as the ability to waste your time guessing the identity of silhouettes for no reward.

Minigames
The Locase Casino, the Namor Bug Catching Contest, the Civitate Daily Tournament - there's plenty to do and much of it involves gambling and slot machines so please nobody tell PEGI because they will not be okay with this.

Honey Trees/Hidden Grottos
Guess what? They're both back too. Except they're not terrible this time. Honey Trees have an hour cooldown, rather than 6 hours, and Hidden Grottos have a cooldown of 30 minutes. Both can contain rare/Delta Pokémon.

These features are from Beta 2, which is currently unreleased. Beta 1.1 has somewhat fewer features, but Beta 2 should be releasing around the end of next month.

Yay! It's up! Looks fantastic :)
It's looking awesome.
Thanks a lot, guys :)

can i play this game.
Unfortunately, while most of the mapping is done, the scripting only reaches the first gym, which isn't really enough for a beta yet. Also, I'm waiting for a bugfix that will hopefully show up in Essentials 16.2 or until I learn to do it myself. At the moment this bug is causing Delta Pokémon to revert back to their normal forms after each battle, which I think is due to a conflict with the code for Mega Evolution.
TL;DR: Not for a while.

Update 1
Alright, so this thread hasn't been very lively, and I haven't had a lot of time to work on the game, but I've done a fair bit more over the past two days. I've made a new male character sprite, which will be showing up in the screenshots when I get around to replacing them tomorrow. I've also coded in the reputation system, and this time rather than being cryptic, I'll tell you exactly what it does.

You gain reputation by winning battles, as well as by certain decisions in the story. Beating Gym Leaders/E4 increases it more, obviously. You lose it, obviously, by losing battles.

High reputation gives the following effects.
  • Cheaper shop items
  • A few free Pokémon throughout the game
  • More people challenging you when you're champion
  • A different ending
However, it's very easy to lose reputation quickly, and losing multiple battles in quick succession will exponentially decrease it.

As for endings. The game has four possible endings, based on your chaos and reputation. I'm going to list them here, but these are of course MAJOR SPOILERS and you should think twice before reading. Unless you're someone with no interest in playing the game and are merely here to critique it, don't click this.
Spoiler: Major game ending spoiler!
Spoiler: Are you sure?
Low Chaos & High Reputation: Defeat the leader of Team Chimera in battle and ruin their plans.
High Chaos & High Reputation: Blow up the Team Chimera buildings, killing all the members.
Low Chaos & Low Reputation: Join the police force and hunt down Team Chimera.
High Chaos & Low Reputation: Take over Team Chimera.

I also mapped and scripted a new area, which includes a new Rival battle! Here, have screenshots.

Lastly, the Jelra Pokédex has been added to the first post.

Update 2
Hey guys. Rainbow isn't around right now, but I'm here to let you know that we should be ready with a beta in about a month. The beta will be 3-4 gyms long, probably ending before your character departs for the Hoenn region. We're currently working on the art design for Team Chimera and a few of the notable NPCs.

Also, we're fleshing out the chaos system a little bit. Though it only really changes the storyline in late game, certain bits of dialogue in the early game still vary depending on your chaos. Here's an example of chaos-based dialogue.

I'm liking all the features included. Not the same boring ass story.

Looking forward to this!
Thanks, both of you! I appreciate the support!

Update 3
Both myself and blackmathgic have been working our butts off to get stuff ready for the beta, and it's looking like it'll be done by the end of this month, and possibly even a little earlier.

So here, have a video of a battle with one of your pseudo-rivals!

Yes that Mudkip is purple and knows Acid Armor. No it's not shiny. Once you play it you'll understand.

Pokémon Shadowstone - Beta 1 Release
A few notes.
  • The game is four gyms long, and also includes four small sidequests. All sidequests give pretty notable rewards.
  • We've done some beta testing, but we may have missed a few things so any bug reports would be fantastic.
Click here to download the beta! A download link will also be added to the first post.

Hello, I just tried to play the demo and encountered a bug: I can't scroll up or down to choose between options like when Prof Oak ask the player if the player needs help or if he wants to continue, it is stuck to the option "Controls". The same problem happened when I went to the options menu, where it directs you directly on the "Cancel" button at the end and you can't scroll up.

By the way, for anyone who plays this: your Rival Jamin will tell you to go talk to your mom after battling him, but her dialogue actually doesn't change at all from earlier and nothing happens if you don't do this. Feel free to ignore it and not bother going back to your home town if you don't want. This is a bug that will be fixed in the next update.

So far, I tried the game for a while and I felt this game is good. But the screen tearing is an issue, so I hope you can fix that. The running character looks like walking fast instead of running.

Keep it up with good work.

Thanks for the replies :)
As for that error, I've experienced it as well and I'm not quite sure what causes that, still working on it.

Now, get ready for.
Beta 1.1
That's right, we made another one, and despite only being a 0.1 higher than 1, it's a pretty major update. Not only does it fix a few bugs, it also adds a feature that I didn't have time to do the first update:

All catchable Pokémon now have Delta Forms! You can now freely convert them back and forth using a Delta Machine, which can be found in Cypress' Lab or the Magnasila City Outpost. Pokémon keep their current moves while being converted, but their future movesets will change to match their new type.

Click here to download Beta 1.1! All save files will be compatible.

Also everyone give Cyan Orange a round of applause for spending three hours of her finite life helping me make movesets for all the new Deltas (which we literally just finished 20 minutes ago).
