Hi there, Allen here :)

This is a little something I started working on in April and finally finished it on Monday 29 July 2019. A story idea which I hope can be brought to life as a ROM Hack for people to experience and enjoy. I'm no writer haha but I think I can spin a decent tale on a good day :) this probably started on a good day back in April. It was typed in a similar style to the walkthroughs I've done for Pokemon Adventure Red Chapter Beta 14.5 and Pokemon Flora Sky (Complement Dex version), so what you get is part summarised story and part "this is an example of the walkthrough for a game version of it".

Story
-------
Janice, her 4 friends Gina, Rose, Ryan and Kelvin have graduated from high school together with other 16-year olds and it is time for them to receive their Starter Pokemon and go off on their journeys as Pokemon Trainers. But unlike the others Janice already has a Pokemon, a Pidgey that has been another dear friend of hers for a while now. When Janice asks Pidgey if it would like to tag along with her on the big adventure that awaits all Trainers...Pidgey couldn't be more excited to go on its own journey with Janice. So it begins.

Features (that I hope could be in the game version)
-------------
- New story, set in a new region called Petra.
- Generation 1 to 3 Pokemon + any evolutions/pre-evolutions, type changes, ability changes introduced in later generations. Alola Forms, hopefully?
- Gen 6 Learnset for Moves
- Pokemon that evolve via trading, using Hold Items, time conditions etc will evolve either by leveling up or by Dawn Stone
- Physical/Special split
- Gen 5 Repel System
- Reusable TMs (Gen 3 set of TMs)
- EXP Share (Key Item that can be turned on/off)
- EXP from catching Pokemon
- Unique alternative to the HM system: a special Key Item called a Key Flute which is powered by gems called Notes that work like HMs. You can choose to teach a Pokemon the move for use in battles or they can just use the move in the field without having to learn it or requiring you to have obtained the right Badges. So long as you have Pokemon in your party that can learn a Note move, it can be used outside of battle.
- Access to your PC from anywhere with the help of a special Key Item called a Storage Disc.

Here's the link to the Notepad Doc:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1o8I3DJl2DOn5RstL8WRCt2lW2etgKtI9

Together with the story, I've included a section at the end where I talk about what inspired the story, characters, concepts and I tease some other story ideas which came up while I was neck deep in this one so please don't leave that section behind after finishing the story. It IS canon :D not Naruto or Bleach level filler content.

Good luck, have fun and let me know what you think. Any feedback, questions, comments etc send them my way please. Thank you and bye for now!

(Update Friday 9 August 2019)
Morning. I tried posting this idea over at the Pokemon ROM hack subreddit a few days ago, hoping to drum up some feedback or maybe find people who are interested enough to team with me..but unfortunately the post was taken down. I've since put up another post there asking why, no response yet at this time...but I'm not holding my breath. The community has some rule about no posting of "idea threads", which apparently is there to discourage people who just want to throw in ideas and expect others to do all the work (shouldn't it be up to the community members to decide which ideas they want to support? Any Pokemon ROM hack idea should be allowed). I made it clear in that post that I'm eager to work with others, not just expect someone else to do everything. That still applies here. Feedback, questions, comments are welcome...but at the end of the day, I'll need as much help as people are willing to offer if Journey of Janice is to become more than an idea.

(Update Saturday 17 August 2019)
Good Morning :) I'll be posting some key notes here that touch on the story and address some of the ideas I have in mind for the potential game version. Most of them are covered in detail in the Post-story section on the Notepad doc. My hope is people who are checking this thread out are taking the time to read the story and not just focusing on the little synopsis and features list because those are not the whole idea. The story will give you a picture of what the game version could be and by the end of the Notepad doc you'll be able to answer the million dollar question - Would you be interested in playing a game version of this story?

Featuring mainly Gen 1 to 3 Pokemon
-------------------------------------------------------

At this point I am close to 20 years as a fan of Pokemon. That adventure started with the anime, then the almighty Pokemon Tazo's fad swept through here (many, many, MANY packets of promotional potato chips were sacrificed during that time haha) and over the next years I got into the games and had the chance to read the manga. But during all that time, the only Pokemon that I felt a connection to were the ones from those first 3 generations. Their designs were cool and memorable, their names as well (are you having trouble remembering the Gen 1 Pokemon? My advice, learn to RAP :D ). I got to know the Gen 1 & 2 Pokemon through the anime, then by playing Silver and Crystal versions...then Gen 3 was through Ruby version and later on Emerald version. When later generations came along, it just wasn't the same. Sure, there are plenty of cool Pokemon among them, but outside of maybe the Starters, some of the Legends and a handful of Pokemon...I couldn't tell you which generation Pokemon A or B are from. I tend to mix them up. So for this story and potential game I decided to just go with what I am familiar with, which is Gen 1 to 3 Pokemon. Of course this will include any pre-evolution forms, new evolution forms and alternate forms e.g. Alola Forms, so there is some later generation flavour sprinkled in after all :) I'll bet there will be people who won't give this a chance because I don't feature their favourite generations of Pokemon from Gen 4 to 7, even if the story is new and contains some cool ideas. But that's how it is for me :) maybe if I was a younger fan...

Inspiration for Journey of Janice
----------------------------------------------

It is drawn from having played enough of the official games and spending lots of time diving from one fan-made game to another. You get to see the kinds of stories people are telling, how creative they can be, what ideas they have brought to the table and so on. That's the charm of Pokemon games, especially those that fellow fans out there have done. Some good, some not so good :) some with fun and interesting plots set in new regions, while others are basically remakes but with more Pokemon and updated features, and so on. With all the experience I had gained, I decided to try and come up with a story for a game which I thought would be new and interesting. New characters, new places, familiar Pokemon, some cool references to previous games and trying to offer creative ways of using HMs and the PC Storage system. I didn't want to come up with yet another fan-made remake, because there are already plenty of those out there haha. The initial image I had was of a young girl Trainer travelling with her Pokemon friend, a Pidgey. Both of them on a journey together but each of them having their own personal journeys - the girl wants to explore the world around her while growing as a Trainer, while Pidgey wants to grow as a Pokemon and meet other Pokemon. You can colour me super surprised when I found a curious picture at Bulbapedia while I was working on the final parts of the story - the character Green being carried by a little Pidgey trying its best to Fly haha.

These are the sprites I thought would fit for the main and side characters, plus a little info about them so that you know what they would look like:

Janice (Leaf sprite from FR/LG)
- Main character, whom you will play as.

Gina (Lyra sprite from B/W)
- One of Janice's friends.
- She is the first friend Janice will meet again after they all go off on their travels. She will be in Graham City
- Competes in the Petra League Championship Tournament arc

Harris (Gardener Trainer sprite from X/Y) - "The Consummate Gardener"
- Gym Leader of the 1st Gym in Graham City
- Only much later is it revealed that he was the Champion during the "main game story". I thought it would be cool if the first Gym Leader that Trainers face would be the Champion in the end, so that Harris can evaluate them and find out how much they have grown as Trainers since that first Gym battle. He'll have a Gym team and then his "true form" Champion team :)

- They are the Day Care couple in the game, who present Janice with a Pokemon Egg after defeating them. A Torchic will hatch from that Egg.

- "The Goddess of Water"

- Minor characters that Janice meets in along Route 6
- After struggling to get through the snow and wind along Route 6, Janice is rescued by Nurse Joy and her Delibird and brought to a Nurse Station nearby
- Janice teams up Nurse Joy and Junior Nurse Andrea to search for Junior Nurse Fiona, who got separated from Andrea while they out along Route 6

Professor Wanda Willow (Elite 4 Bertha sprite from D/P/PL)
- Older sister of Professor William Willow
- Head of the Fran City branch of the Pokemon Research Society
- Awards Janice with a Dawn Stone (a Key Item in the game version) if she returns with Gym Badge #3

Vince (Marshal sprite from B/W) - "The King of Fighting"
- Gym Leader of the 3rd Gym in Fran City
- Specialises in Fighting-types
- He will tell Janice that the Strength Note is found on Merah Island, a tropical paradise far to the east. Home of the 5th Gym Leader.

Vince Senior (either a modified Marshal sprite that looks older...OR a cool sprite of Hercule from Dragon Ball, because that's his character to a Tee :) )

- To find Irene, players have to locate the Dive Note in Irene's house and jump into the lake. Below is an underwater cave where Irene, the Red Gyarados and the Pokemon Collectors are
- After dealing with the Pokemon Collectors, Irene will ask Janice to help her transport the Red Gyarados to a much safer location, an island to the south east called Evelyn Island which is a haven for wild Pokemon and is looked after by a former Safari Zone Warden, Mr. Maxwell

Pokemon Collectors Dana & Derek (R/S/E Collector sprite for Derek and R/S/E Beauty sprite for Dana)

- Minor character that rescues Janice after she is caught by a surprise rainstorm while surfing towards Evelyn Island
- Former Warden at the Safari Zone on Merah Island who now lives together with his Pokemon and the wild ones of Evelyn Island
- He was a close friend of Irene's father, who brought the Red Gyarados to Lake Avril from Johto many years ago during a time when Team Rocket was causing trouble around Johto. Mr. Maxwell offered to keep the Red Gyarados in the Safari Zone, but Irene's father thought it would be safer in Lake Avril

- Current Warden of the Safari Zone

Pokemon Breeder Gloria (Pokemon Breeder sprite from R/S/E)
- Minor character that Janice meets on Suna/Hana Island, who becomes a friend of hers
- She will award Janice with an Eevee later as a way of saying thanks for rescuing her from Suna/Hana Island
- Lives in Triston City with her little brother Thomas
- During the Petra League Championship Tournament arc, players will get to battle Gloria in a friendly match

Cole (Falkner sprite from G/S/C/HG/SS) - "The Dark Inheritor"
- Gym Leader of the 6th Gym in Triston City
- Specialises in Dark and Ghost-types, one of his Pokemon is a Shiny Absol that Janice encounters while out at sea - it will guide her to Triston City
- Key character who will play a major role in the Light of Lugia arc, having been the one who tells Janice the story of how a group of ancient sages attempted to summon the legendary Pokemon Lugia with the aim of controlling Pokemon through psychic powers
- After Andre succeeds in summoning Lugia much later in the story/game, it will be Cole who helps Janice and her friends save the region by giving her information about going to Johto to find the one legendary Pokemon that Janice will need to find before she can face Andre - Ho-oh

Eva (Nurse sprite from B/W)
- Minor character that Janice meets along Route 10, west of Triston City.
- She heals players' Pokemon. It's a nod to the old lady from R/S/E whose house you found north of the Desert, I think? She's the one who says something like "Don't be shy about it" if you said No to her healing your Pokemon again after she already healed them.

Portia Burnside (Lass sprite from D/P/PL, then later on Lady sprite from B/W)
- Minor character that Janice meets at Eva's house along Route 10, who becomes a friend of hers
- She is a senior at Burnside Academy, an elite high school built by her family several generations ago, located just outside Bluefont City (Home of the 7th Gym)
- Janice will help Portia against her rival Yvonne Yureon after Janice returns to the school with Gym Badge #7
- Portia will compete in the Petra League Championship Tournament and in the post-game mini arc is one of the Challengers that Janice will have to defend her Championship title against

Yvonne Yureon (Ace Trainer sprite from FR/LG, then later on Lady sprite from D/P/PL)

- Heiress to the Yureon Family fortunes, daughter of Mrs. Yureon - current head of the big tech company Yureon Corp. (some of the major products that they have manufactured are the Key Flute and the Notes)
- Rival of Portia Burnside

- She is in the post-game mini arc as one of the Challengers that Janice will have to defend her Championship title against

Shane (Rich Boy sprite from B/W)
- Minor character that Janice meets at Burnside Academy
- Boyfriend of Yvonne Yureon, but is not an arrogant rich kid like her
- He will also appear in the Petra League Championship Tournament arc as a participant and as one of the Challengers that Janice will have to defend her Championship title against in the post-game mini arc

Samuel (Elite 4 Lucian from D/P/PL) - "The Man of Lightning"
- Gym Leader of the 7th Gym in Bluefont City
- Awards the Thunderbolt TM to Trainers who defeat him
- Specialises in Electric-types
- Super busy guy who not only serves as the Gym Leader but also works at the Petra Power Plant and at Yureon Corp. (the Storage Disc Key Item is his invention)

Mrs. Yureon (Veteran sprite from B/W)
- Mother of Yvonne Yureon
- Current head of Yureon Corp.
- In the game version, after the Ace Team HQ events, she awards players with a Lucky Egg when they speak to her again.

"Hooded Intruder" (any cool sprite of someone wearing a white robe with a hood)
- Minor character that Janice will encounter on the top floor of the Ace Team HQ in Bluefont City
- She will also encounter more of these individuals in a couple of odd dreams that she starts to have after the events in Triston City, but each time she wakes up the next morning, Janice won't remember the dreams. These dreams are foreshadowing the Light of Lugia arc because in them, Janice and these hooded people are in a cavern with a symbol carved into the floor - a symbol resembling the Silver Wing.
- The one she finds at the Ace Team HQ will have taken possession of Konami by psychic means and Janice will have to battle Konami again to save her. This event changes Konami, who will be grateful to Janice for saving her. After the battle, the hooded intruder will disappear

Gambler Franky (Gambler/gamer sprite from FR/LG)
- Minor character that Janice meets in Carson City (Home of the final Gym) who becomes a friend of hers
- His name is inspired by the One Piece character "Cyborg" Franky
- Former Gym Leader of Carson City who lost the position to current Gym Leader Madame Zelda
- He gives Coin Cases to Trainers, which they will need in order to be allowed entry into the Steel Hearts Casino, which also serves as the Gym, and is owned by Madame Zelda
- Helps Janice prepare for the Gym challenge by giving her important information about the layout of the Gym: there are 4 high level Gym Trainers who must be defeated before Janice can face Madame Zelda. Those Gym Trainers are known as the 4 Suits.

Kimono Girl Sayo (Kimono Girl sprite from G/S/C/HG/SS)
- Minor character that Janice meets in Carson City
- She is meant to be an older version of Kimono Girl Sayo from the original games, because time line wise Journey of Janice takes place in the 7th generation. At this point, Sayo is the last remaining active Kimono Girl...the others retired and gave her their signature Eevee evolution forms. So when players get to battle Sayo, that's her team
- She will help Janice prepare for the Gym battles
- In the game version after obtaining the 8th Gym Badge, if possible players will receive an Expert Belt from Sayo

Nina (Lady sprite from FR/LG)
- Franky's younger sister whom Janice finds at Franky's House.

"Spades" Seagle (Elite 4 Sidney sprite from R/S/E)
- One of the 4 Suits at the Steel Hearts Casino, he occupies the 1st Floor
- Battles using Rock and Ground-type Pokemon

- One of the 4 Suits at the Steel Hearts Casino, he occupies the 3rd Floor
- Battles using Bug-type Pokemon

"Hearts" Heather (Elite 4 Lorelei from R/B/Y/FR/LG)
- One of the 4 Suits at the Steel Hearts Casino, she occupies the 4th Floor
- Battles using Dragon-type Pokemon

Madame Zelda (Socialite sprite from B/W) - "The Lady of Steel"
- Gym Leader of the 8th and final Gym in Carson City
- Swept into town decades in the past, took over as Gym Leader and turned Carson City into a booming gambling paradise
- Her character is inspired by the One Piece character Big Mom
- Has been around for a very long time, she tells Janice that Mom Judy, Dad Michael and big sister Janet all had to get through Madame Zelda before they could go on to achieve what they have (Mom and Dad went on to become League Champions, while Janet is a Gym Leader)...now it is Janice's turn.
- Specialises in Steel-types
- Awards the S.S. Victory Road Ticket to Trainers who defeat her. This is a Key Item needed to board the ship which will transport Trainers to Indigo Island, home of the Petra League HQ and where the Petra League Championship Tournaments are held.

Captain Farrah (Elite 4 Glacia from R/S/E)
- Minor character that Janice meets on the S.S. Victory Road
- She explains to all the Trainers on board about a special event that will take place on the ship which is basically a survival game to determine the 20 Trainers who will go on to compete in the Petra League Championship Tournament. The winner of this tournament advances to face the current League Champion for the title
- The "survival game" in the game version involves players making their way from the bottom level of the ship to the top deck, taking on other Trainers and Sailors. Defeat all the Sailors on each level to move up to the next one...if you are defeated by a Sailor, you have to start that level from scratch (in terms of defeating the Sailors. Any Trainers already defeated, you won't have to face them again). I hope this will be possible. I just wanted to add a fresh spin on the Victory Road concept :)

Picnicker Lucy (Picknicker sprite from R/S/E)
- Minor character that Janice battles in the Petra League Championship Tournament
- She is from Lake Avril

Camper Oliver (Camper sprite from R/S/E)
- Minor character that Janice battles in the Petra League Championship Tournament
- Son of Fisherman Oscar

Lass Iris (Lass sprite from R/S/E)
- Minor character that Janice meets during the Petra League Championship Tournament arc
- Daughter of Fisherman Oscar

Psychic Zachary (Psychic from R/S/E)
- Minor character that Janice encounters during the Petra League Championship Tournament arc
- Mysterious fellow that advances through the tournament with a string of upset victories
- Confronts Janice but only warn her
- Served as the one Andre had to defeat in order to reach the finals

High Sage Nora (Fantina sprite from B/W)
- Minor character that Janice encounters during the Light of Lugia arc
- Is one of the 7 High Sages - high level Trainers who are members of the group known as the Light of Lugia. Andre will assign them as the new Gym Leaders, whose task is to gather fresh challengers for him to battle and defeat, so as to continue growing stronger and perfect his control over Lugia and the massive illusion that has been cast over the Petra region by his Psychic-type Pokemon (if you're familiar with Naruto, think of this as a massive Genjutsu technique).
- Janice defeats Nora and finds out about Andre's plan

The sprite for the male High Sages is the Palace Maven Spenser sprite from Emerald.

Morty (Morty sprite from G/S/C/HG/SS)
- At this point he is the former Ecruteak City Gym Leader
- Janice will meet him on the top floor of the Tin Tower when she travels to Ecruteak during the Light of Lugia arc
- He will give her the Rainbow Wing, which Janice will need in order to summon Ho-oh
- If possible, in the game version there will be a point where he is a playable character - this is when Janice's friends split up to take on the High Sages
- In the post-game mini arc, during a short flashback, players will get to battle him

Eusine (Eusine sprite from G/S/C/HG/SS)
- At this point he now lives in Ecruteak City, but occasionally he'll go off on yet another adventure to find legendary Pokemon (finding Suicine wasn't enough haha)
- Janice will meet him at his house
- If possible, in the game version there will be a point where he is a playable character - this is when Janice's friends split up to take on the High Sages
- In the post-game mini arc, during a short flashback, players will get to battle him

Hmm, I think that covers all the major and minor characters.

Themes
-----------

I'm a music guy, maybe some of you have figured that out if you've stumbled upon the Counting Electric Sheep (Video Link) thread in the Anime/Manga section. Themes in the Pokemon games are part of what I enjoy the most about them and so I wanted to spend enough time selecting what I think are the best themes for the various locations, character encounter themes and battle themes.

Bonus points to those of you who'll have your Pokemon OST folders or browser tabs open to a Pokemon OST playlist so that you can check the themes while you go through the Journey of Janice "tracklist" :)

Gina
- Her encounter theme is the Lyra encounter theme from HG/SS
- Battle theme is the Friends battle theme from X/Y

Rose
- Her encounter theme is the Dawn encounter theme from D/P/PL
- Battle theme is the Friends battle theme from X/Y

Ryan
- His encounter theme is the Rival Brendan encounter theme from R/S/E

NOTE (taken from the Notepad doc): This could be a stretch, but I think it would be nice if in the game version players can visit the Charizard Theatre and "catch a movie". Since Janice has the Golden Ticket, she can go there for free. If the game version makes use of the real time clock, then each day of the week will have a different movie e.g. Mondays the usher tells Janice that the first Pokemon movie is screening...Tuesdays it'll be Pokemon 2000 and so on. Janice walks into the theatre, fade to black, she walks out and has a little comment about the movie.

Ace Team
--------------

The easy path would have been to have either Team Rocket, Team Aqua or Team Magma as the villains. An easier path would've been to have a organisation that is basically a Team Rocket/Aqua/Magma 2.0/Lite. Give them a role where they're just out to steal people's Pokemon or take over the world or control a legendary Pokemon and so on. Play enough fan-made games and this is what you usually find. I also didn't want to have an organisation that is basically there to be comedy goofs like Team Flare from Pokemon X/Y or Team Skull from Sun/Moon/Ultra...and maybe by extension, I'll say Team Yell who will be in the upcoming Sword/Shield haha it seems the days are gone where the official games had troublesome villains like Team Rocket. Ace Team was my attempt to try another direction, where the team isn't the big bad organisation in the story/game but instead is a very popular group that actually does great work around the region and the people like them. Initially they were going to be a group of elitist Ace Trainers who are out to find and groom Trainers that they believe have the potential to be as elite level as Ace Team. Shades of that Ace Team are shown by Konami when she is introduced and battles Janice. What made me change to the "hip and cool" Ace Team was the idea of Andre having formed it for his own plans, with the Ace Team Elites unaware of this until the Light of Lugia arc. This Ace Team allowed him to gather as many followers as he could get while to the rest of the world, the group is family friendly and fun. The Ace Team Trainers that Janice encounters would be some of the "bad eggs" in the organisation who are taking advantage of their memberships by causing trouble, so when she meets Andre and they agree on Janice cleaning out these "bad eggs", I thought it was a nice twist. Even the tease after their meeting, where it looks like Andre and the Elites are considering monitoring Janice during her travels, I liked that it kept the possibility alive that Ace Team are not the cool and fun crew that people believe they are. But the deeper story of Andre may as well have saved Ace Team from being a potential Team Rocket/Aqua/Magma 2.0/Lite, so I am curious to see what people will think of Ace Team if Journey of Janice becomes a game :)

Petra League Tournament Idea vs the Elite 4 & Champion Concept
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I thought it was a breath of fresh air when the official games introduced Elite 4 Trainers that players could face in whichever order they wanted. Battling the Elite 4 back to back was fine for the early generations when that just seemed to be the norm. In the fan-made game world though, at this point, I hope people are creative when it comes to the Elite 4 and the League Champion. If they can make games which offer solid alternatives to that concept, thumbs up. For Journey of Janice, I went with the idea of having a tournament system for the Petra League Championship. When done right, tournaments are fun and exciting. You can tell amazing stories through them, taking people on a ride with action, suspense and drama. The path to the Petra League starts on the S.S. Victory Road, another idea I had to serve as an alternative to the regular Victory Road, where all the Trainers who have collected all the Gym Badges are gathered. They compete in an event that will determine the best 20 Trainers who are qualified for the tournament. The ship reaches Indigo Island where the tournament is held and the festivities begin. The winner of the tournament challenges the Champion for the title. One other way the tournament could've gone which I thought was neat involves 19 Trainers arriving on Indigo Island and they are introduced to the 20th participant - the Champion. Winner takes the gold :) would the Champion retain their title? Defeated in the final match? OR would they be eliminated at some point, thus guaranteeing a new Champion will be crowned? Not bad eh? Maybe in another idea for a potential Pokemon fan-made game haha

Key Flute & Notes Concept (alternative to HM system)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

2 paths were open for me here - either have a story/potential game where HMs are absent or come up with an alternative to the HM system that would keep HMs present in some form or fashion since there are some HMs which make for great battle moves e.g. Surf, Rock Smash, Strength, Fly, Dive, Waterfall and on a good day, Cut. I didn't want to do away with the HMs, but at the same time I wanted to offer something unique. So the Key Flute and Notes were born. The idea was Trainers obtain the Key Flute at some point during their journey and then search for the Notes, which they attach to the Key Flute and they are granted the powers of HM moves for their Pokemon. They could choose to teach their Pokemon the moves or just have them use the moves while out in the world. So you can tell interesting stories with these items, of how a Trainer finds a Key Flute and the individual Notes to help them get through the various obstacles they will face on their journeys. In the game version, what I have in mind is this: (taken from the Notepad doc) Let's say you've just gotten the Fly Note but you don't have any Flying-type Pokemon in your party or in the PC Boxes. When you use the Key Flute, a drop down menu box appears to list down the Notes that you will have at the moment (the Notes will appear as Key Items in your Bag)...select Fly Note...you'll be shown the "Fly world map" so you can choose the destination...then pick a Pokemon from your party and that Pokemon "uses Fly". Is this even possible? Those of you who know better, please let me know what you think of this idea.

Storage Disc Concept
-------------------------------

It is inspired by a neat little code that allows you to access your PC Storage Boxes from anywhere. I thought it would great to have a Key Item that works just like it. When you open your Bag and select the Storage Disc to use it, the game treats this like you've booted up a PC and goes through the whole process. Is this possible? I really hope so :) saves you from rushing back to the nearest PC while you are miles away from the closest town or city.

Playing As Other Characters
----------------------------------------

If it is possible, in the game version there could be a chance for players to play as Janice's 4 friends (Gina, Rose, Ryan and Kelvin) as well as former Ecruteak Gym Leader Morty and his good friend Eusine. In the story, when Janice leaves for the Johto region to find the Rainbow Wing, her friends are left behind to battle the Ace Team Elites. What I picture is a selection screen similar to those old Mega Man games where you chose which level you wanted to play through. After clearing a level, you'd go back to that screen to choose another until all were cleared. So players could battle the Ace Team Elites in any order. Later on in the story, the friends, Morty and Eusine split up to face Andre's High Sages, who have been assigned to be the new Gym Leaders. Same idea here - you can battle them in any order, this time getting to play as Morty and Eusine too. Crazy? Is this doable?? I'd love to know :)

Janice's 4 Friends
------------------------

They are my little nod to the 4 friends from Pokemon X/Y. They grew up with Janice, went to school with her, they all graduated together and they started their journeys as Pokemon Trainers at the same time. I liked the idea of going on a big adventure with your friends, growing, learning, maybe even becoming heroes together down the road :D which is why I had to make sure that they are fun and interesting characters, unlike the X/Y friends who just have their specific character roles and they stick to them :/ I was so disappointed when I played X (still on pause haha I had to pause the game so I could focus on Journey of Janice. Gomen) and as I progressed through the story I realised that there probably isn't anything else to those characters. One loves dancing, one wants to complete their PokeDex, one is clearly campaigning to be your Rival and then there's one character that I thought has some colour to her personality than the others, Shauna. I have hope for her. I go into detail about Janice's friends in the Post-Story section so please have a look.

Would Mega Evolution be in the Game Version?
--------------------------------------------------------------------

I didn't even have any place for it in the story, so at the moment I would have to say no. Similar to HMs, the reason I included them is because they had a place and proved to be useful. Mega Evolution...looks cool, but wouldn't be as useful. In the Post-Story section I bring up one idea for the story which involves Mega Evolution, so let me know what you think of it. For the game version I picture it working like this: Players would receive a Mega accessory with the Key Stone already in it and then receive a "universal" Mega Stone, which they would give to any Mega Evolution-capable Pokemon in their team. When it is battle time, the Mega Evolution symbol will be visible and players hit Select or whatever button is assigned to trigger Mega Evolution and the process happens. Possible? You tell me :)

Other Ideas (Prequel, Sequel, New Story Idea)
-----------------------------------------------------------------

While working on Journey of Janice there were other ideas that came up for a prequel, a sequel and a whole new story. Taken from the Post-Story section, here they are:

(Sequel) Pokemon: The Twin Tales of Jenny & Jerry
------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is set 4 years after Journey of Janice...because by then, the twins Jerome and Jennifer are old enough to travel as Pokemon Trainers after graduating from high school. Ambitious idea, because players would get to play as either one since they'll travel together. Switching between them anytime out in the overworld but being able to build their individual teams. Would they have separate Bags and PC Boxes or share the interior menus of the Bag and PC? Good question. What about when it comes to battles, are all their battles going to be Double Battles? No. Some will be, including key story battles, and others will be single battles (either regardless of which character you'll be playing as at the time or the story determines which character you should play as). There would definitely be new Gym Leaders at some places. New friends, new rivals (?), seeing what has changed around Petra in 4 years. Ace Team still a thing? Another good question haha. That's what I have in my head so far, it was an idea that appeared...I was fascinated for a while then I put it aside because I hadn't come up with anything else other than it would be set 4 years later and the playable characters are the twins.

(Prequel) Pokemon: The Story of Judith
--------------------------------------------------------

Mama has to have a story, right? Being the "final boss" of Janice's story, surely this woman had quite the journey, yes? It is set 30 years before Janice's adventure. Let's do the maths: Janice is 16 years old during her story, the twins are 12, Janet is 20...while Judy 46 and Michael 47. 30 years is about right :) *hides the scientific calculator* Judy hails from Bluefont City and attends Burnside Academy. Her family isn't super rich but they are well off enough to afford sending her there and she makes the most of her time. Eventually she graduates and her story begins. Because she's from Bluefont, home of the 7th Gym Badge, I thought it would be a nice nod to Janice's story if Judy is connected to the Gym Leader at the time...I haven't figured out if they are related or not. It'll be interesting to see which characters Judy could meet who are still around in Janice's story. What was there 30 years ago which has either changed or is no longer present 30 years later? How do Judy and Michael meet? Even though it's been established in Janice's story that Judy and Michael eventually became Champions (Judy defeated Michael to become Champion...spoiler?), the path leading to them becoming Champions is still worth seeing roll out. One character I already have in mind to be in Judy's story is Patricia Burnside - mother of Portia :) friend of Judy's? Or foe? Good question, keep them coming! That's all for now.

(New Story) Pokemon Q or Pokemon Quest or Pokemon Kyuu - The King's Challenge
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I know, I know...there's already a Pokemon Quest official game. But I don't care, damnit :D because this one can be described as a "Dragon Quest kind of story set in a Pokemon world". Anyone who has played the Dragon Quest games knows how incredible the stories are. The characters, the adventure, with lively worlds etc so I wanted to try coming up with a story of that level. It would be set in a new region, whose name I don't have right now, which is under a monarchy. At the start of the story, pretty much everyone in the region is glued to their TV screens for a very special live broadcast from the island where the royal capital is located. From the palace, the King announces that he is going to step down soon (shock, shock everywhere!!). Not because of ill health or people protesting, no, but because he wants to (he's the King, he can step down if he damn well want to!) and so he has a quest, a challenge for all the Trainers out there in the region - if you believe that you can be a better king than he has been, prove it. Travel the region, take on all other Trainers, help everyone who needs it, save those who need to be saved, protect those who need to be protected...and most importantly, enjoy your adventure. If you can do all that and make it to the royal capital and defeat him in battle, you most certainly deserve to be the next King or Queen. Let the King's Challenge begin. The broadcast ends. People across the region erupt with all kinds of reactions in response to this news. Some are happy, some are excited, some are saddened, angry, confused, intrigued, puzzled and so on. Those are the people who watched this broadcast...then there 2 people who did not even know about the broadcast. Why? Well, they were out in the field studying Pokemon. One of those people is a woman named Professor Spruce, who loves being out doors to find Pokemon and observe them, learning what she can about them. The other person is the main character of the story, I'll call him Fenn. Why? Good question #100. Fenn isn't the usual Pokemon main character who has always wanted to be a Pokemon Trainer, but from the time he was little he has been fascinated by Pokemon - these magical creatures around him that have incredible powers and abilities. Just travelling around with his friend Prof. Spruce to see Pokemon has been an adventure for him, he's never taken time to imagine what it would be like to have his own Pokemon to train and travel with. But with the big announcement that has been made by the King, Fenn will find himself put into circumstances that make him want to become a Trainer...even if it means leaving his hometown, his family and his friends. So far that's what I've got, everything else is jumbled up in my head haha images of Fenn walking along a country road with his Starter partner by his side...saving villages from wild Pokemon attacks like you would save villages from wild monster attacks in many, many other fantasy RPGs...a group of people known as the King's Knights arriving in Fenn's hometown to spread the word about the King stepping down and to give any aspiring Trainers the tools they will need (Bag, PokeDex, items, Key Items) and there's a confrontation between the leader of this group and Fenn...priestesses or princesses in magical towers (because what's a Pokemon game, even one that is DQ-inspired, without a tower??)...a religious group that live their lives all in the service of a certain God Pokemon and how they will react to the King's announcement...members of the Royal Court, out of panic, conspiring to force the awakening of a certain legendary Pokemon in order to have someone of their own choosing made the next ruler of the kingdom - a certain legendary Pokemon that was last awake about 1000 years ago...and so on. That's what happens when an idea grips you :D it pulls you in all kinds of directions, throwing one image after another and they all pile up until you can sit down and put them in order. I clearly haven't done that (^^!) but that's Pokemon Quest: The King's Challenge for now.

That's pretty much it. You have the Notepad doc with the whole story, you have the synopsis and features list, characters, places, information, other ideas etc. I've done what I can with this so I leave it up to you now. If people like Journey of Janice, excellent, but is anyone willing to work with me to make it a game for people to play? That's the question :)

Hello :)

Are there any people who would prefer reading the Journey of Janice story here on the site as opposed to getting the Notepad document? Please let me know, because I'm hoping to get the story posted here on the site, chapter by chapter, hoping that maybe that might help things along. I'm considering posting in the FanFiction and Writing section since I'm not sure if I can post the whole story here. Still waiting for the final word from the FF&W powers that be. So those of you who are interested in reading the story here on the site, tell me.

(Update Saturday 26 October 2019)

Good evening :)

I'm happy to say that I've been given the green light to post the Journey of Janice story in the FanFiction & Writing section. It will be in the Writer's Lounge. The version going up there won't have all the game-related notes which you see here and in the original Notepad doc version, it will just be the story. Those of you who would prefer reading the story here on the site, I hope you'll check it out. Then those of you who like the story enough to help with the game version work please make use of this thread for notes and also download the Notepad doc. Send me a PM and let's get started. It really means a lot that there are people who like the idea, but I don't want to keep telling them that there's no work started on the game yet. So to any of you who have experience in the world of these Pokemon games created by fans for fans, if you're looking for a fresh story to work with and you consider yourself a creative person, I'd like to hear from you because I'm ready to work with you on this. I've said it before, that I'm new and need as much help as anyone is willing to offer. Otherwise, sooner or later this thread will be shut down by the moderators because nobody came through.

(Update Tuesday 3 December 2019)

Good afternoon :)

The Fanfiction & Writing section thread for Journey of Janice is now up for those of you who would prefer to read the story here on the site. It will be a reworked version of the one you'll find in the Notepad doc linked in the top post of this thread, because that original version cannot be posted in the FF&W section. My suggestion is while you keep up with the story, please check with the notes here as well as those in the Post-Story section of Notepad doc.

(Final Update Wednesday 8 April 2020)

Hi there, it's been a while eh? I'm back with some good news and some bad news. The bad news is from the time I first brought the idea for Journey of Janice forward here till now I haven't heard from anyone who would be interested enough to work with me on the game version, even though the view count for the thread continued to rise and rise (no idea how many of those views are from Bots). It would've helped if I'd heard from at least one person who has had experience in the fan-made/ROM hack game world with maybe some advice or questions or something, even constructive criticism. No luck. So I'll move on to the good news - the Journey of Janice story will be available in the Fanfiction section for anyone who might be looking for something to read in their spare time (while under lockdown or otherwise :) ). I just thought it would've been nice to see this story and the other stories I have in mind as games for people to play someday, especially those who like story-driven games. To those who took the time to check out this thread and follow it along while I posted, thank you.

If the moderator happens to see this, I guess you are free to delete this thread. Otherwise it'll just be gathering dust since there's nothing else to be done for it now.
