I'm super psyched for X and Y! The fact that it has new gimmicks and stepped up graphics really impressed me a lot.

I started to like Chespin when it was first shown along with the 2 other starters and legendaries because it reminded me of Pachirisu. Maybe because of its similar face. Lol

Fennekin all the way! It's the first Fire starter (not counting Cyndaquil from SoulSilver as that was a remake xD) that I'll pick as my starter in my first game of the generation since Torchic. Chimchar and Tepig weren't that appealing compared to Piplup and Snivy, sadly Snivy isn't the best in battle without it's DW ability...

It's funny how Chespin was my fave of these three at first but suddenly after seeing awesome looking fanart of Froakie and the fact its design grew on me, I actually have Froakie as my new fave of this bunch. Opinions can change so quickly over time and it continues my trend of choosing the Water starter because surprise I love Water-types.

The only time I never picked Water was in 4th Gen, where I picked the Fire-type.

I still don't know. I want to start with all 3 again like I did with BW, but I am only going to have 1 3ds. Honestly, I really like all 3, but my final choice will not be made till I see all the evo forms. I'll say Chespin, because he seems the most unique to me and because of the rumor about it's final form being Grass/Dark

As always, the Water-type always seems to be less popular but in most cases the Water starter's popularity surged upon their evolutions being revealed, and I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case with Froakie either.

But another possible topic I could continue in this thread. I remember back when I mentioned in the now-dead General Chat & Speculation that Team Flare are apparently Fire-type specialists so I think this might see a surge in Froakie usage, which according to TV Tropes is apparently an example of "Character Select Forcing".

Now as far as we know, the first Gym Leader is a Bug-type. Given this information I could see those who choose Chespin suffering the most. Even though Chespin does get Rollout I wouldn't be surprised if so many Grass weaknesses were present throughout the game like in Johto and to a lesser extent, Unova. And given Grant might be a Rock-type specialist, I could see Fennekin suffer a little at whatever point of the game he is battled, whereas Froakie will also have an advantage over him (and Chespin too).

Do you think this would have any effect on Fennekin's current 1st placing in the poll? Maybe it might see Froakie getting more votes? I'd also imagine Fennekin taking a hit in the popularity if it evolutions' appearance is not as appealing as the other two.

Spoiler:
Spoiler'd because the post is right above this one.

It may affect some peoples' decisions, but I still picked Charmander despite being at a disadvantage against the first two gyms, and Team Aqua and Roxanne didn't stop me from picking Torchic in Sapphire. I've been a fan of Froakie since day one, and now it seems to be paying off. Even if Team Flare were a team that specialized in using grass-types and Viola specialized in using electric-types, I'd still pick Froakie. I can see where you're coming from, but this is just my opinion.

If Froakie's last evolution is called Froaker, I will probably choose Frokie because it reminds me of Frogger. I think that is what that old game was called. In most cases I always end up picking water type for my first pokemon. Don't know why, was just always a habbit other than with Johto in which case I always choose Cyndaquil, reason being I never liked the other 2 very much.

I agree. Gen I, I started with both Squirtle and Charmander. Didnt care of type advantage back then. I was young and naive. Still am. I even picked Torchic as well. You just have to train them better is all. Dont let type disadvantage screw your decision. I am typically a water trainer (was always a Misty fan) but wont let that stop me from beating the patootie out of my opponents with my Fennekin.

Well I think each gen (I can be wrong) that around the gym city you could catch a pokemon that was strong against the nearby gym.

Yup.For Brock you can catch mankey. For Misty you can catch Oddish/Bellsprout. For Lt.Surge Diglett etc. Cool signature BTW.

I might pick chespin because I rarely pick grass types, I get sick of always picking fire and water, sure they are strong but so is grass so idk.

I'm going to pick Froakie, I've always loved the water types. At first I thought froakie looked pretty derpy but now he looks very kick-butt and awesome :) I love chespin too he is adorable and if I ever get both games or play through mine over again I'll definitly choose him. I don't really like fennekin too much he looks very plain and reminds me too much of Zorua and Eevee, plus when they first came out all the fanart for fennekin and hardly any for chespin and froakie made me feel sick to the stomach.

Froakie FTW! I've always started with water-types so no exception this gen. Plus I really do think his final evolution will be amazing. Fennekin doesn't really appeal to me, and neither does Chespin (although it'd be my second choice)...
