A twelfth player slot has officially been filled, thus closing SU applications until further noted. With that, look forward to the IC within the next couple of days (hopefully).

@SingSongBirdy: As of this post, there are no longer any open slots.

@DLMuerte: Nychta has been accepted.

@DarkMoonPhase: Unfortunately, there were too many issues with your edited SU still, while DLMuerte's SU was ready to go. Here are the comments that have for your SU this time around.

Name: Carson Welles

Age: 17

Gender: Male

Weapon of Choice: Broadsword

Element: Air

Spells:
Razor Wind
Projects a cutting wind that allows the user to slice through matter from a distance. Can be shot out from the hands, but Carson most often combines it with the use of his broadswoard, giving the normally short ranged weapon a longer reach. Can also be used to enhance the cutting power of a weapon.

Thermobaric Barrage
Pressurizes the air within a small range, to the point where it creates a small explosion.

Bulwark

Creates a shield of air that can be cast within a rather long range, able to protect the user or another person/object of choice. However, the further away the target of the spell is from the user, the more vulnerable the shield.

Appearance: Standing at exactly six-foot-one, Carson has a rather long and slender figure which doesn't exactly help others recognize him as a male upon first glance. He has a rather feminine look about him, with his long curling eyelashes, pale white skin, deep purple eyes, and a smile that could make even the straightest man's heart melt. His long blonde hair is another feature that might make it difficult for one to identify his gender without getting to know him.

Despite the fact that he's spent his entire life in Montana, the young mage has never gotten accustomed to the cold. Because of this, most of Carson's wardrobe consists of winter wear. His daily outfits differ from day to day, but the one constant is that he always has a scarf wrapped around his neck.

Personality: Truly a young man in love with the idea of love, Carson has always been described as a hopeless romantic. An idealistic dreamer, he is a genuine believer in the classic fairytale romances and an advocate for chivalry. As a part of his "duties as a gentleman" he believes in always assisting anyone he is able to and being compassionate to those around him. He's a big fan of using grandiose gestures to express his feelings and has no shame in doing so. Depending on who you ask this is either heartwarmingly adorable or overwhelmingly obnoxious, but even those that find him to be aggravating can agree that there is a strange charm about the young man, perhaps due to the almost blind optimism and kindness that he goes about life with.

History: The son of an ever-loving air mage and a father who was never there, Carson was born and raised in the small city of Livingston, Montana. He grew up as a normal child, but once his magical abilities started to emerge early in primary school his mother began regularly taking him out to the nearby Yellowstone National Park to develop them. Having spent a good chunk of time serving in the Liminal Isles, Karen Welles knew a thing or two about using air magic.

The younger Welles caught on quickly and showed a natural aptitude towards combat. His burgeoning athletic skills were developing alongside his magic ones as he grew and he approached every lesson with enthusiasm, following every word of his mother's teachings.

The two of them had always been extremely close, as they almost had to be. The fact that Carson's father had left Karen as soon as he found out she was pregnant and the non existent relationship between herself and her parents, left the young woman in her mid twenties to fend for herself and her unborn child.

Carson turned out to be a wonderful child who was all parts, funny, charming, and obedient. Ever since the day he was born, Karen had preached to the boy about the wonder of love and how he needed to be a true gentleman. She was going to make sure that he never turned out like his father. She would tuck him in every night reading him epic fairytales filled with romance and drama, and the boy became engrossed with those stories. He always fancied himself as the knight in shining armor off to save a princess in a high tower, and that vision of himself was what drove him to become stronger each day.

As he grew older Carson became recognized around the small community as one of the best and brightest youngsters in Livingston. He was the top student in the tiny class of his high school, the star of the basketball and baseball teams, and a frequent volunteer in the organizations around the city. As much as he was known for his achievements, he became rather infamous for his flair and extravagance. His over the top hi-jinks involving the young women of Livingston were either hit or miss with the community. Regardless he was well liked throughout the city, save for the occasional citizen chastising him for his rather feminine appearance.

As his reputation grew, so did his magic abilities. By the time he had reached the age of sixteen, Carson had grasped a good understanding of his air magic and was rather proficient with his mother's broadsword. Karen, knowing that she wouldn't be able to teach her son much more used a couple of her old connections in the magic community to get her boy an invitation to one of the two magic high schools, The Vale Institute of Magic.

So instead of attending his senior year at Livingston Central High, Carson packed his bags, his mother's broadsword and headed to the west, where Vale awaited.

Because Colony and I are the GMs, and we can make exceptions whenever the hell we want, and because we took care of all this before Ozy actually posted it, Carson is accepted.

Updates to both the OOC main post and the most recent IC announcement have been made to reflect the recent changes in active characters. As of now, team three, featuring Iris, Michael, Shion and Violett, has been changed and will instead feature the twins, Lauren and Lily, over Michael and Shion. As mentioned in the previous post, Michael, Vance and Julie have all been moved to the inactive section, and are thereby restricted from current teams, though may reenter the normal cycle should their writers become more active. Aside from these changes, everything else remains the same, unless unforeseen circumstances requires another change.

I am interested in this one, just got 2 questions for now

first i am not well known with the american school systems, so what ages would be acceptable for grde 9 to 12?

also, i noticed lightning is part of fire, so i wish to ask to what extend can i make a char who is more specialized into electrical attacks then fire?

I'm sorry to tell you this, but we're not currently accepting new applicants. You're still free to make a character and submit it to us in private, so your questions are answered in the spoiler below, but it's very unlikely that we'll be making many exceptions for a while.

Name: Alice Winchester

Age: 17

Gender: Female

Weapon of Choice: Dual kukri nicknamed "Ralla" and "Raina"

Element: Fire/Lightning

Spells:
Short circuit: A gutsy spell that requires Alice to get relatively close to her target where she disrupts the human target's neurons or a monster's magical energy, leaving whatever she touches inert.

Chains: A spell which creates fiery chains that can wrap around a target or bludgeon it with the hot irons.

Supernova: A spell that fires a tight ball of fire at her target, which burrows deep inside before exploding.

Encase: A combination of fire and lightning engulfs the caster, protecting her from contact damage and endangering those who touch her. If she attacks while encased, it causes extra magical damage to the target as it transfers on contact. It also can cover her kukri, allowing her to wield them more effectively.

Hyperperception: This spell allows Alice to alter her perception of time, allowing her to move much faster than her environment by causing over activity of her own neurons due to electrical manipulation.

Appearance:
A tall, leggy blonde, standing at 5'10, Alice has always been attractive even if she hasn't always realized it - lean with curves in all the right places. Much to her chagrin, the boys tend to notice one place in particular -- her chest, which tends to get in the way at the most inconvenient of times. Her gaze has been described as piercing, with eyes of a striking blue that don't seem to miss a thing.

Personality:
Overall, Alice is confident of her abilities and herself, but she still lends herself to the quiet, serious side of life, and unbeknownst to most except close friends, she has a great sense of humor. In new situations, she finds herself quiet and analytical, as if studying a battlefield for the best way to navigate through it. She can sometimes get lost in her own mind, sometimes needing to snap herself out of it with a small jolt. She tends to be rather shy in new situations, but eventually with enough time, she's capable of opening up. Deep inside, she still carries the passion and flame of her younger self, which can escape in times of extreme emotion or distress.

History:
Alice was born and raised in North Carolina in farm country in the middle of nowhere. At the age of five, while playing outside in the field alone, she discovered that she could create fire out of nothingness. She was excited and quickly began to experiment, much to her parents' chagrin as she had soon burned half the crop for that year. Alice's father was a trained fire mage, so he began to train her to use and harness her ability. Her mother had no special power of her own but enjoyed watching both of her children embrace their magic and become mages themselves. While her brother's powers were a bit more subdued and he mainly seemed interested in defensive spells, Alice herself found herself brimming with it, almost to the point where her father didn't quite know how to teach her control, which was something she struggled with immensely.

At the start of her teenage years, the missing control started to sink in and her personality shifted from an extremely temperamental ball of fire to a calmer, controlled flame. In her core, she still burns hot with passion but it's intimately soothed by meditation, which had proven to be the only way to grant some semblance of a normal life. Yoga and meditation had helped center her, so she took it on as a hobby and grew to love it. Another passion of hers was reading, finding it utterly intoxicating to get lost in another world described by her favorite authors.

Once her temperament and power was more manageable, her father knew that the Isles were her destiny, so he reached out to his old mentor, a fire mage of much wisdom and experience to further train his daughter in her art. Knowing that his own daughter had passed him in his ability, her father took a step back to simply watch her development from the sidelines. During the training with her father's mentor, around the age of fifteen, Alice discovered that she could both create and manipulate electricity as well as fire, much to her instructor's pleasure. He had noted that her progress was extraordinary and hoped soon that she would be able to master both of her abilities.

Balancing school and magic was often difficult for the girl, since many of the more outgoing teens tended to tease her about being a bit shy, which caused her temper to flare up. Thankfully, she managed to start no fires while at school but did give quite a few fellow students 'accidental' shocks with the promise of more serious injuries if the teasing continued. After this display of power, the other kids decided to leave the reserved girl alone. Loneliness built up for Alice and she longed for someone to spend time with.

This brought her back to farm country, where she got involved in a bit more rambunctious group of older teens that introduced her to the concept of a 'barn party' and alcohol in general. Once inebriated, Alice opened up to everyone and was a wonderful socialite, much to everyone's surprise. While she wasn't the life of the party, she was definitely more fun to be around and carefree.

At age seventeen, the intensive training had finally paid off and a letter arrived from the Vale Institute, inviting the young fire mage to further her studies at the elite school, which would put her one step closer to the fighting at the Isles. With pride, her mother and father sent her off to the prestigious academy and knowing that she would excel, if she only kept her temper in check.

Hey, guess what? We're making exceptions again, for similar reasons to the exception we made for Ozy.

We'll be waiting on Cersei to finish with SU polishing and such before we add Alice to the list, but like with Ozy, the majority of this was taken care of privately (and totally not on the Discord channel with all the players and everything, totally). ^-^

And she's in.

Uh oh, looks like Allan, the student body vice president, might've gotten a hold of some alcohol. Or maybe he's just been in the sun too long. Who knows? Either way, he's summoned a giant monster and it's up to the students to survive at all costs. Whatever the creature is, though, it's dangerous, powerful, and resilient. Students will need to work together for there to be any hope of making it out okay.

Normal update, new ICA and the start of Week 2. Clubs are now a thing, blah blah blah. I probably need to clean up the main OOC post, but I'm lazy, so I probably won't.

Tasks for the week of September 21st

☆ Hunt: Water Serpent

A suggested training mission for water and air mages, one serpent species of the Isles lives—you guessed it—underwater. Fire and earth mages are not excluded, but speak with Nurse Cox on methods to breathe underwater if one of your teammates cannot provide.

Tuesday

Thursday

☆ Gather: Mandrakes

The nurse's office is always looking for students to bring in more supplies. More specifically, they're currently low on forest mandrake cores—their leaves, which make great painkillers. Nurse Cox is asking students to pick flowering mandrakes from forest isles. He also advises they bring earplugs or some other form of sound dampening.

Monday

Tuesday
  • Julie Nguyen
  • Domingo Hernández
  • Zane Emerson
  • Iris Aldridge
Wednesday

Thursday

Friday

☆ Survey: Floating Islands

A request to travel through a small chain of flying islands and write a report on the behaviors of inhabiting etherspawn, as well as environmental features of note. Though high in the air, they remain mostly stationary, and aren't connected by land or bridge. Creative transportation methods are required, as well as a method for taking notes. There may be other islands on the horizon or near sea level, but they are not part of the assignment.

Monday
  • Jack Marrick
  • Louis Descoteaux
Wednesday
  • Jack Marrick
Friday
  • Jack Marrick

☆ Hunt: Lions

Uncannily similar to the African lion, these beasts are as tall on four legs as a human, and are known as a type of Commander, able to summon smaller members of their species. Surviving subordinates go on to become commanders themselves. Fire variant lions have shown up in the Goliath Jungle, and territory disputes with the native creatures have left swaths of the isle ravaged. A team of at least four is required for dealing with them, but taking care of one lion per team is sufficient.
