Story:

In the year 2022 the virtual reality helmet, NerveGear, is invented. With this helmet users will be able to control their in-game character with their minds and experience gaming on a new level. It is also the same year that the new Virtual Reality Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (VRMMORPG) is released, Sword Art Online. Many beta-testers have tested this game before it was brought on the market and they were very excited about it. There are only 10.000 copy's of the game and 1000 are given away to the beta-testers for free.

On November 6, 2022, all 10.000 gamers found out that the log-out button had dissapeared. The reason behind this glitch was revealed on that same day when everyone was transported to an unknown location on the first floor of the game and were informed by an unknown man in a robe. This man turned out to be Kayaba Akihiko, the creator of Sword Art Online. Kayaba told the players that if they wished for freedom then they had to beat the boss on the 100th floor. There was one condition, everyone's levels were resetted to 1 and if they happened to die within the game then their real brains would be fried by the NerveGear. Kayaba Akihiko gave everyone a gift at the end of his speech, this turned out to be an item called "Hand Mirror" and turned everyone into their real life appearences, height and weight included. At the beginning of the game the NerveGear detected your real life appearence and that's why such a thing could happen.

Around 2000 players died in the first month due to reckless acting and disbelief in Kayaba's words. Players created guilds to explore the dungeons. There are a few lead guilds and lots of small ones but everyone has the same goal: Reaching the 100th floor and win the game.

There are guilds who have been doing criminal things like murder and robbing. The ones murdering are called "Player Killers" and must be arrested as soon as possible because if they kill players in the game they kill them in real life as well. There are some Solo-players as well but there is a limit for Solo-playing as the bosses become to strong for them at a certain point.

There are also players being called "beaters". It's a name made from two words "cheaters" and "beta-testers". Beta-testers are being looked down at and mostly hated because lots of players see them as the reason that a lot of players are died already.

"They could've shared the information that they have with us!"

You:

You are one of those 10.000 players who was able to get one of the copies of Sword Art Online. You are either a beater, a normal player or a PK'er (Player Killer). You have played the game a few times before the log-out button dissapeared and know a little bit about how the things works. The beaters know more about the game than the normal players and PK'ers, however.

You are in the game for one months now so you certainly had the time to level up, create skills and to find out about your sword arts. Sword Arts can be unlocked by every 10 levels and you start with two, you can have up to six Sword Arts. You gain levels by defeating monsters or getting experience points in quests. The GM's decide when you gain a level untill they found a proper level system.

Player killers are only able to kill in battles. Normally the battle ends once one of the battling players HP hits the yellow zone, but player killers are able to keep attacking until the player dies. Player killers can also sleep kill, this means that when a player is sleeping outside the safety zone the player killer can send a battle request to the player and make him accept it by making the players finger touch the "accept" button. Safety zones are towns, villages etc.

You have a screen name and a real name. In the game only your screen name is shown and it's your own choice if you want to tell someone your real name. You all start with basic equipment and you're able to get new clothes once you finish quests or killed a boss monster.

> Boy's starters equipment

> Girl's starters equipment

Yuri Irving AKA Eclipse-1

Yuri sat in the inn, resting after a hard day of grinding. This food is surprisingly good, he thought.For pixels. The inn was fairly crowded, and sound drifted over from a nearby table.

"So he says,'I need safe passage to the next town.' and I say, 'Sure, but I'm going to need all the money up front.'" This was said by a man of average build. He was talking with two other men who sat at his table. He continued talking. "So anyway. He was getting annoying, so I left him once we got about halfway."

The man to his left grinned. "That wasn't very nice. You should have escorted him all the way to town." The whole table laughed at this.

Yuri frowned. This type of behavior wasn't uncommon. Lots of experienced players took advantage of those who were weaker. Yuri's temper started to rise. Those with more should look after those with less. Then, out loud," Scamming people out of their money, then using it to booze it up. You're a real prince, aren't you?"

The other table grew silent. The man that had been talking walked over Yuri's table and sat down. He glared at Yuri, his face only a few inches away from Yuri's. "You got some spunk, don't cha'? Why don't you say that again to my face?" he asked.

Yuri kept his face impassive. "You low-life thugs are all alike, you're a dime a dozen," The other man flushed. "Could you lean back a bit?" Yuri continued, "I'm not really looking for a boyfriend."

The other man's face contorted with rage. "You wanna fight?!"

Yuri smirked. "I'm never one to turn down a fight, but are you sure you can fight without your gang backing you up?"

The other man wordlessly drew his sword and used the menu to send Yuri a challenge. Yuri immediately accepted the challenge, then walked out of the inn onto the road. His opponent followed him, still fuming.

Yuri glanced around the square. It was early evening, so the lamp posts had yet to turn on, but there was still enough light to see by. As the countdown began, Yuri pulled his sheath from his belt and, with a practiced motion, flicked his sheath off of his sheath. Then, after a tense silence, the clock hit zero.

His opponent charged him, blade held to his right side. Yuri sidestepped the clumsy attack. His opponent turned, preparing to slash him across the chest. Yuri parried the blow, then slashed at his opponent. The blow caught his opponent on the shoulder rather than across the chest as Yuri had intended, due to his opponent's attempt to dodge.

His opponent stumbled back, before finally regaining his balance a few meters from Yuri. Yuri charged him, his blade glowing white. His opponent settled into a defensive stance, anticipating the blow. Yuri grinned.Got you. "Ghost Wolf!"

He dashed through the space his opponent occupied. Then before his opponent could react, he turned and slashed him once across the back. His opponent fell to his knees. Then a banner appeared over his head, pronouncing him the winner.

Maria Renée {Princess}
Level: 12

Maria sighed sadly as she sat down on the ground right near were her brother had died. Why did you leave me Phillip she thought sadly wiping away a tear that fell down her cheek. She just stared at the spot he had been standing in sadly. She made her way back here every day when she wasn't grinding. She'd reached level 12 already and part of her knew Phillip would have been proud. "Je vais battre cette Phillip je le ferai, et je vais vous rendre fier" she stood up brushing her black hair out of her grey eyes and turned away taking a few steps before looking longingly back at the spot. "I...I won't be back Phillip...but I'll be thinking of you always" she turned away once more and walked away quickly before she changed her mind.

Entering the market place she pulled out the small amount of money she had already earned. I have some healing items already, and my Teleport Crystal. she thought. I know, I'll buy a flute to help my music skill. she nodded a small smile forming on her face. It wasn't much just made her look a little happier, though it was obvious to most others that she was grieving the death of somebody. Going to the shop that sold what she needed she bought a simple flute with the money she had and put it in her inventory. She'd start to play it later to increase her basic Musical Instrument skill.

(Translation for the french sentence: I will beat this Phillip I will, and I'll make you proud)

Town Of Beginnings Marketplace > Tolbana

Chapter One: Part One
Shiren the... Adorable!?

"Please sir, I'm sooooooooo close to leveling up my Sewing skill, and I have everything else, I just need three Soft Pink Threads and I'll be able to make it!"

"As I said miss, 50 Col a piece. I can't lower prices just because you want them, I'd go broke!"

"But, the NPCs sell Thread for 10 Col!"

"Yeah, but it's uncolored, everyone knows colored Threads are better. Why don't you just go get some Dyes?"

"I don't haaaave Dyes, that's why I need Soft Pink Threads! You can't even lower it a little bit, just for a little girl?" Shiren's eyes began to well up, and she gave the shop owner some big beady eyes and a quivering lip to boot, holding her hands up to her collar as if to beg and plead.

"You-- I-- Ugh, fine. 15 Col per thread, alright?" The man held a palm to his forehead, shaking his head in disbelief.

"Yes!! Thank you sir! Thank you soooooooo much!" She smiled and looked ready to leap over the counter to give him a hug.

"R-Right, your total comes down to 45 Col."

"Okay." She flicked her hand down, and began to input the money into the trade menu, though she accidentally hit the wrong buttons.

"4500 Col!? Where did you get that kind of money kid!?"

"Teehee!" She smiled and removed the zeroes, accepting the trade and turning away, skipping off to somewhere far away. The shopkeeper simply watched her leave, bewilderment all over his expression.

"Tolbana Town, I made it!" Shiren giggled to herself, heading over to a small field area still within the town's range. She opened her menu, sorted through it until she found the skills section, and hit Sewing. A Needle appeared in her hand, and she spawned the rest of her items before her, all resting in a woven basket. "Let's see... Three Soft Pink Threads, Short Dress Recipe, Forged Gem, and Four Laces. Alright, here we go!" She giggled and poked the basket full of materials, causing all of them to glow and then shatter, a white-pink dress slowly falling on top of the basket. A banner appeared before her with some small fireworks, announcing her Sewing Level Up. She cheered and laughed, celebrating her successful Sewing for a good minute or two.

After all celebrations had passed, she examined her new dress. "Hmm... It's just as strong as the medium armor sets here! And the gem is... Speed +5! Perfect!" She giggled, equipping her new dress to replace her previous set. "Now, I can sell this one to an NPC, and then I'll head for the next town!"

William Danielson||Godot
Lv. 11||Floor 1 - ???

Godot didn't know where he was. He was chasing a Jax Rabbit, a creature that was great for creating Jax Sauce. The thing about Jax sauce was that it didn't require any sort of Cooking skill to cook, unlike most other rare ingredient-created items, and so it could be sold for large sums of money. However, things went downhill when the rabbit went down a small crevice and Godot followed. He ended up landing in a cave...and that's why he wasn't gelling the change of scenery too much. Specifically, the cave was a long narrow hallway, and behind him...there was nothing. The hole that he fell through was above him, and there was no way that he was getting out through that way, again.

Then, he received a message.

From: Chef Meister
Subject: Fishy Business

I see that you have found one of my many hideouts. Well, I suppose "found" is the wrong choice of words...more like, "took the bait". Don't feel bad, though; I'm an expert fisherman! HAH! You aren't the first to have fallen in here, and if you leave, you won't have been the first to do that either. However, some who have come in here died tragic deaths. Guess they didn't remember to hit the crab's weak points for massive damage. HAH!

Now, I know what you're thinking. "How do I get out of here?" The answer is simple! Find your reward at the end of this cave. It shouldn't be hard, 'tis merely a straight line, kinda like the fishing line that got you here. HAH!

"Dear god that was annoying...this better not be some sort of quest chain, 'cause I don't think I can take any more of those terrible puns," Godot said, closing the message. He noticed that he had a new quest. It was entitled "Anchovie Adventures". Godot merely closed his quest window and bit his lip. He started down the hallway, expecting some sort of monster to pop through the walls or some sort of trap to be sprung...but nothing happened. He became gradually more cautious because of the lack of monsters, but as time crept forward, he reached the end of the cave. When he got there, he didn't see anything he was expecting. No trapped chest, no egg with a dangerous monster inside, no door. Instead, there was a man waiting for him, one that was obviously an NPC.

"Well, well...it's about time you showed up," the man said. He had tall blue hair and wore a red cloak of sorts, but his weapon is what caught Godot's attention. "Name's Arc, one of Meister's students. I've been expecting you." He noticed Godot's interest in his weapon. The weapon seemed like a polearm in shape and build, but it had the aesthetics of a fishing rod. "You like? It's all yours. All you have to do..." He readied his polearm. "...is take it from my cold dead hands."

Arc jumped into the air and spun around. Godot tried to dodge, but he was hit in the face by something and fumbled, and then was thrown backwards after being hit by Arc's weapon. He rub his face and then noticed that Arc's polearm, much like a fishing rod, had a fishing line and a hook. On that hook is a rather large rock, and that was probably what hit him in the face.

The eccentric soldier didn't let up, swinging the rock at Godot like a ball and chain, using its wait to put more power behind his follow-up attacks. Godot knew better than to try blocking the rock with his sword, as that would probably just push him back more. It wasn't exactly a pleasant fight, and the rock was far faster than he gave it credit for. It hit him in the gut, and then in the chest. The range of the polearm and the speed of the rock made both getting close and staying away quite difficult. It was obvious what he had to do, though: rid himself of the rock.

He stopped moving for a moment to try to predict the motion of the rock, and when Arc launched the rock at him again, pushed the base of his sword into the fishing line, causing the line to wrap around the sword, which Arc promptly pulled away in much the same way that a fisherman would pull a fish out of water. Godot knew he didn't have much time. He utilized his sprint skill to get close to Arc while he was still pulling back on his polearm, and then he elbowed Arc in the stomach. He then took advantage of this time to grab his sword, which had just bounced off of the ceiling, and cut at Arc's arm, causing him to drop his weapon, which Godot kicked away. He turned to the cunning fisherman and said, "This is why you don't try moves like in potentially dangerous situations,". He chuckled. "It's yours. Honestly, I'm glad you didn't kill me."

"Doesn't that go without saying?" Godot said. "Damn Kayaba and his lazy writing..." he said in contempt.

"Glad for you, that is." Arc said, looking up at Godot from the floor. "The weapon's rigged so that it breaks if I die. Unless I pass it on. Meister might have terrible puns, but he's quite crafty when it comes right down to it."

"Don't most people spare you? I wouldn't think people who are just starting out with a weapon would be so quick to murder a cave-dweller."

"That's because they wouldn't," Arc replied. "However, my job isn't to kill the opponent, it's to give them no choice but to kill me." In retrospect, this made sense. Godot had the perfect chance to kill his adversary, but it was hard to see someone not being taken by logic or adrenaline and actually killing him. After all, he only did it because he was never really the type to mercilessly kill anything and everything in games unless there was an end to justify the mean. In this case, there was little reason to do so since he didn't really care for the polearm all too much. Granted, he wanted it, but he didn't have any reason to kill someone who, as far as it mattered to Godot, a player that was just as much apart of the game as this NPC, was a real person.

Godot picked up the polearm, called the "Meister's Soul", and returned to Arc. "You're now a disciple of the great Meister," Arc said, standing up. "Whether you want to learn from him or kill him matters not to me, and what you do with this discipleship also matters not. Just know that as long as Meister lives, we are kin, and so are the other disciples you may meet." Arc handed Godot a book and a box, then dawned cheerful smile and said, "Well, until we meet again!"

Suddenly, the world became brighter and brighter, and then it started to break apart into light, shining like a star burning out into the night. When all was said and done, Godot was back in the forest.

Robin - Lvl 9
Floor 1: Horunka Village

"...A fair progress." Robin acknowledges his training for part of the day. His skills have been improving rapidly, reaching his expectations. The monsters are still weak as usual, so the usual grinding rate was depleting for him. If the players - nay, Robin himself - will not find the boss room soon, life on Floor 1 of Aincrad will be depressing. For now, it was time to rest.

Robin walks back into Horunka Village with his sword back in place. He's been to the other two towns, but they just don't suit him. Town of Beginnings is a place for newbies, & Tolbana Town is just too crowded; socializing is not his best asset. Horunka Village is more quiet, with fewer people to speak with. "Enough thoughts. I need to rest the body as well as the mind." Robin walks back to the only inn in the village. There's only one inn, & that's enough for Robin. He heads back to his usual room with pay. At least their are times when Col is available to acquire, though Robin has noticed he's running a little short. What could he sell? Perhaps he can dwell on this in his room.

Looking up at the ceiling while lying in his bed, Robin was again wondering if this was, yet again, another dream. It looks that way, this world being virtual, yet this is happening. What did Kayaba hope to achieve in creating a world like this...? "I wonder if Kayaba Akihiko is watching right now..." That would just be creepy.

« PEPERTON » (LEVEL 15) // 1st Floor: Outside of and in Tolbana Town
The fields were becoming more and more empty as the spawn rate was dropping increasingly since the past few days. Philippa (or Peperton as she had to remember to refer to herself as) was probably to blame for this, thanks to her endless amounts of grinding but she didn't blame herself. No, she considered herself lucky that she had gotten so much training in before they had started to fizzle out. So much training wasn't enough though.

Swiping one last mob, she looked at her experience bar yet again. The numbers had gone up, but it basically hadn't moved all day.

"Level fifteen, level fifteen," she muttered to herself, obviously disgusted with how small the number was. She wanted to be way higher than this by now so that she could clear the first floor boss with ease. But, since her level was much higher than most people, it took her much longer to level up. She looked at the sky. Almost nighttime. Usually, she would grind until morning but today, it felt a little useless. Perhaps she would go into town, get something nice to eat. Maybe make it herself. Whatever made her less mad.

---

Tolbana Town was as lively as it usually was each day at twilight; bustling markets, other players returning to sell off their goods, and marketpeople trying to flog off whatever they had for ridiculously high prices. Whatever it was, it was annoying and usually kept Peperton from doing whatever she wanted. Some people sure were desperate.

"Need a good sword? I've got a stunning specimen right here! Only 300 Col! A bargain!!"

"I can see your pretty face needs some stat boosting jewellery to make those eyes pop! Come over here little lady, I'll make all the boys fall for you!"

"Armour? You need it? I've got it! The best stuff for only 1000 Col!!"

"No," Peperton said in disgust to anyone that stopped her. They would have pressed her more but the look she gave them was enough to send a grown man back to his mother. "Leave me alone."

"Sure lady, whatever you say..."

The local inn was her place of interest at the moment. Maybe tonight she would get a decent night's sleep. Or maybe she would wake up in the middle of the night and do more training, like she had done every day for the past two weeks. Though, with those mobs thinning out, it might not even be worth it anymore. What happens if the next time she went there, there would be nothing there to kill? To help her level up? That would be depressing. What would she do then?

The inn seemed rather empty, on account there were loads of people standing outside watching a PvP duel. She didn't catch the start, but it ended quite quickly. No deaths though. It was amusing, but nothing impressive. She turned away from the victor and went inside, not booking a room but sitting down in the lobby to rest for just a minute.

dotcom || Tolbana Town
State of Nothing

dotcom was inside one of Tolbana Town's larger restaurant. In front of him is a scrumptious looking platter of deep-fried shrimp dipped in a sweet sauce made of who-knows-what. It comes with a plate of rice, the primary food of the country he was from. However, despite the appetizing look of the food, dotcom was simply playing with it with his spoon, spreading the sauce all over the shrimp and turning it over and over again. From the moment he ordered it, which was approximately an hour, he had not put anything in his mouth, except a sip of the soda he ordered with the food. dotcom was bored to death. From the moment he reached level 15, his experience bar slowed down during training, up to the point that the experience gained was not worth the fatigue it brought him. He brought up his menu, and looked at his stats. His experience bar was stuck at 2%. dotcom closed the window, and looked at his inventory. It was bare, except for a few unsold and useless item. He still has not bought anything, and just kept on amassing his Col. From his grinding, (and looting of his own guild mates corpses) his total worth is around 6,000 Col, more than enough to buy a whole set of equipment. Hmph, there are more things worth buying at the higher floors, if we could just find the damn teleport! dotcom's boredom is primarily because of his knowledge about the first floor. Ever since the game started, he already managed to explore every nook and cranny of the floor, without ever finding the teleport.

He stood up, and approached the counter. It was an NPC, and an annoying one at that. As dotcom continued to look at the lady's face, he became annoyed. There was something about NPC's that unnerved him. He brought up a trade window, and bought a Small Sandwich: 15 Col. An insignificant amount was removed from his Col stash. He went out the restaurant to look for something to do. There was none. There were player's around; however, dotcom deemed them to be weak. He was already branded as a player killer, because of the panic-killing of his guildmates, but he had not killed again yet after that. Yes, he battled quite a lot, but he managed to restrain himself at the right moment. He don't want to kill unless needed be. Besides, the fights he were in were of no importance. Simple challenges, no malicious intent, and just out of pure boredom from other players. dotcom does not know how he can restrain against an enemy that infuriates him, but hey. He can guess.

dotcom continued to walk through the streets, without any idea where to go.

Titan, Level 15 - Tolbana Town, Aincrad

"Titan..." It was a funny name to have around here considering many people used more name-like alias', but it was far from the worst. Everyone seemed to call him that now and even though a month had past, he was still not use to it; still holding on to his true identity. No one here knew Geoff, but a few knew of Titan, many more knew him simply as a Beater. He despised the title, in no sense of the game was he cheating, yet people accused him of doing so because they didn't know how to play the game. No one knew the Log Out button would malfunction, no one knew that dying here would mean dying in real life until Kayaba announced his grand scheme. Even then, he helped people, he aided many through dungeons, so how could he be responsible for those who were reckless.

He continued to walk through Tolbana, his hulking figure surrounded by clinking, thick armour. Tanks were a rarity in this death-game. Most were too scared to lose their lives in taking big hits, so many people functioned a simple DPS cycling out hits between the players, which was okay against any of the roaming creatures around Aincrad, but useless against the boss they would inevitably have to fight.

Up ahead, the lights of the inn spilled into the streets as Titan passed by a brawl two players were having. He outright refused to compete in such foolish acts in order to display some idea of male dominance over other players; he already knew within himself that he was better than many of them. His level and skills more than enough proof of that. As he entered the somewhat empty tavern, small groups of players and guilds huddled together whispering fervently to each other giving the place a low hum.

"Long Tolbana Ice Tea," he ordered from the barmaid as he took one of the seats along the bar, un-equipping his armour before settling onto the wooden bar stool. As his large armour disappeared, a grey coat settled over top of the beginning armour set they had all received upon logging in. Subtracting 9 Col for the drink, he hunched over the tall glass, mindlessly flicking through his inventory log, clearing any unnecessary items he had gathered. The day's grinding had been long and arduous due to the lowering spawn rate meaning that everyday, Titan had to go further into the wilds of the first floor to be able to fight anything. The players were bleeding this first floor dry.

Rikuto Yuuto Sato / Ryuusa - Town of Beginnings: Marketplace

When Rikuto returned to the marketplace, it was packed with shopping players. After a little shoving, he finally found his own shop, currently being managed by his employee and assistant manager, Kouki. After his assistant saw him, a relieved smile appeared on his face. Rikuto sighed. "Yes, Kou, it's time to switch shifts." The assistant punched the air celebratorily and took his leave, Rikuto stepping behind the counter. He pulled up the menu and added the new items he'd acquired to the shop's inventory, the things arranging themselves throughout the available space. Rikuto never ceased to be amazed at how many things this game did for you automatically. To cook, one only needed to tap the ingredients with the knife and then tap the container, the game doing the rest based on your skill level. The same applied to forging, only with a hammer instead. He was glad for this, though, since he wasn't sure he'd have the strength and eye for detail required to actually forge a weapon.

In a few moments, people began to notice the new inventory at his shop. He'd finally become skilled enough at forging to be able to create more advanced equipment (like flails and plate mail) as well as higher quality straight and curved swords, and the entire morning had been spent gathering the resources for them at a ravine he'd found a while back. Honestly, he was sick of fighting lesser golems for material, but finding materials himself instead of buying them all from someone else meant he could afford to sell his wares for less, besides being a good way to grind for experience. Through trial and error, he'd discovered the best prices to set his wares so that they were less than the competition's yet great enough to be dropped a few col (many players liked trying to haggle) without consequence. The majority of his buyers were lower level players, due to his variety and affordability, and he liked being able to help them.

As Rikuto tended to his customers, he observed the rest of the marketplace. One of the things he noticed was a little girl haggling for some thread. The loud shopkeeper revealed that she was quite wealthy. Rikuto found the whole scene hilarious, including the way she merrily skipped away from the bamboozled merchant. That girl's a sly one for her age. His wide smile grew softer. I'd probably be able to teach Yumi a few tricks for dealing with money when I get back... His smile faded once his thoughts went to his family. They were the entire reason he was working so hard, never wasting a single moment when he was outside the shop. At least he could take comfort in the fact that in this world you couldn't die from overworking yourself. He instantly saw the irony of having to work so hard in what was supposed to be his escape from work. On the topic of work, he'd probably already been fired and replaced. There was no way they wouldn't do that, considering that a month had already passed. How were Mizuki and Yumi sustaining themselves, Mizuki having been a stay at home mom now left alone to take care of a one-and-a-half year old girl on her own. It was these thoughts together with his loneliness that pushed him to waste most of the month at the bar, but no more. What had been the weights keeping him down were now the fuel for his burning drive.

Focusing on business, he managed to sell the talwar and rapier he'd made fairly quickly. They had taken the spotlight of his selection, being of the best quality in the marketplace. Besides those, he sold lower quality weapons to those who looked like they still had weapons not much better than the starting ones, and he sold various potions, clothes, and raw materials as well. His crystals usually didn't sell much, but then again, he didn't have very many of them in the first place. Crystals were much more rare to find and expensive to buy, and he primarily had them there to attract attention to his store. Having bought them from an NPC store, he offered them for a little less, but if he sold them at their current price then he'd have a net loss. Kouki told him as much, but what he didn't realize was that very few player merchants held them in stock. They served to establish him as a superior store, and drew in more customers, in the end getting him more profit. Too many players simply sold their goods without regard as to how they went about it. They were too set on seeing immediate profit that they didn't make investments to increase their future profits. Rikuto had hired Kouki as an assistant so he could continue selling things and still grind levels and find materials. He'd also hired an alchemist named Xenith and a seamstress named SilverMist. His goal was to achieve success through integration of different industries, and so far, it seemed to be working. Others with variety often suffered in quality, whereas specialized stores carried high-quality goods of only one type. His store, on the other hand, possessed both quality and variety. Sure, he spent money on paying them, but it was definitely paying off as his little team all improved their skills. High level players could no longer get good enough items from the weak monsters or beginning NPCs anymore, so they only had one place to turn to; player merchants.

There was another thing he did to increase his profits in the long run, this with the intention of gaining regular customers and improving his reputation. He took orders for weapons, potions, or clothes. If it was a plausible request, he would have Kouki manage the shop while he went to gather the resources required for whatever it was that needed to be made so that he could have it done as soon as possible. All in all, he felt his little business had the makings of a commercial powerhouse. His intentions weren't to get rich, though, but rather to help players be better equipped to clear the game. If he was being entirely honest with himself, he also enjoyed the feeling of being the boss, a nice change from the position of salaryman that felt more like "company dog". He chuckled at the thought of there being a "Ryuusa Zaibatsu" at some point in the future. Rikuto continued tending to customers, having high hopes for the future of his enterprise.

Lucina
Player
Floor 1: Dungeons.

Lucina walked through Tolbana town, wearing her cloak and hood to hide her feminine features like she had been doing the past month and ignoring every other player around her. The only thing she could imagine at the moment was her younger sister's worrisome face. Lucina was glad that she had entered the game before her sister could, or else Jade would've been the one caught inside this place of cruelty instead. Lucina formed a small smile on her lips as she thought back at the moments that she had protected Jade. It was always her protecting her younger sister, it was always her taking the responsibility but she wouldn't have wanted it any other way. Lucina was actually glad that she was able to protect her younger sister everytime again but... now that she's inside this game, this game of murder... who was going to protect Jade now?

Lucina left Tolbana town and entered the dungeons, searching for a teleport to the next floor and trying to get some experience points along the way. This morning she had taken a good look at herself in the mirror and wasn't happy with the image. It was like her whole body had been transferred into the game since even her scars had reappeared on her back. These facts made Lucina a little terrified, but also wonder why Kayaba would do something like this.

Lucina took down a few monsters with the sword she had received from a quest this morning. It was quite amusing how everyone believed she was a guy instead. Lucina didn't find this a problem at all, this was actually what she had been craving for. She was going to let everyone think she was a guy until she was recognized as a skilled swordman, only then she would show her true identity.

"This is getting boring..." Lucina mumbled as she took out another monster swine and didn't see her experience bar grow at all. It had been like that ever since she reached level 13 but it seemed to grow slower everytime she reached the next level. Lucina's only declaration was that the monsters were getting too weak, which was another reason for her to search for the teleport.

Tolbana Inn

Chapter One: Part Two
Shiren the... Adorable!?

"Hmmm... I can't find any NPC shops!" Shiren pouted to herself for a moment, before pulling herself together. "Hmm... Maybe the Innkeeper has a Trade option." She headed into what looked like a tavern, and pulled herself up onto one of the barstools. Those things were tall! "Innkeeper, I have items to sell!" She opened her inventory and spawned her old clothing set, the starter set, a low-leveled Katana, and some unwanted Sewing materials.

"Trade accepted, here is your Col."

"... Wh-what??" Shiren crossed her arms in complaint. "Only 316 Col for all of that? I should have brought it to the market..."

Maria Renée {Princess}
Level: 12

Maria sighed slightly as she pushed her way through the crowd of the marketplace. Once out of the crowd she took her teleport crystal out of her inventory and used it to instantly go to Tolbana town. Putting it away she made her way out of the town and towards the dungeons. Ignoring the people who tried to talk her into joining a party with them. They'll just accuse me of being a beater, every time I've joined a party that's what happens. she thought as she approached the dungeons. She wasn't gaining as much experience as when she started but she remembered that Phillip had told her on floor one once you hit level 13 experience was hard to get on floor one. She spotted someone else in the dungeons their screen name was Lucina. Though Maria couldn't tell what they looked like due to the cloak the other player was wearing. Spotting a monster Maria pulled out her daggers and concentrated before she acted.

With a small battle cry Maria ran forward and leaped high into the air managing to do a small front flip as her daggers started to glow a deep orange. As she started to fall she threw the daggers as hard as she could at the monster landing on the ground. It had done damage but hadn't taken it out. Clenching her hands into fists Maria ran forward towards the beast. The only downside to blade throwing was if she was alone, which was always she had to run at the beast to retrieve her blades. Wincing as she was hit, her health going down 10% she pulled her daggers out she moved back her health recovering a little bit but not all the way due to her Battle Healing skill. Taking a breath Maria put her feet equally apart her dagger blades facing backwards. As the monster ran at her Maria flung the daggers red bolts of energy surrounding them before they hit the monster, taking it out. Maria smiled as she saw her experience bar go up a bit. Not long now and I'll be level 13 she thought picking up her daggers of the ground.

dotcom || Tolbana Town
Wolves' Fangs

dotcom decided to head towards the dungeon in order to kill time. dotcom long decided that the teleport is inside the dungeons, as it was heavily populated by monsters, strong and weak alike. dotcom is careful around dungeons; he never chose to engage monsters that seemed stronger than he is, not without a suitable party, nor he choose to continue fighting still even if his health is down to 50%. He run, and he survives.

The cold air of the dungeons struck dotcom as soon as he entered it. There were no one inside. Well, no one he can sense anyway. However, he had a patterned established already when entering dungeons. He activated his <HIDING> skill. He stopped for a minute to let his skill take effect; it was not on max level yet, but high enough to let dotcom go undetected reasonably well. dotcom equipped his armor [Crunch Armor Level 2/ Crunch Gloves Level 1 / Crunch Helmet Level 1] and took out his sword [Parry Sword/ Additional Skill: Parry +1]. He walked onwards until he could hear the shambling of several monsters. dotcom quickly hid behind a huge rock (why are there rocks anyway?) and waited until the monsters were near his area. He spotted a pack of Wolves, growling as they followed their computer-generated path along the dungeons. Wolves are low-leveld monsters, but one should still be cautious around them, as they usually travel in packs. This time, dotcom counted five Wolves. He knew that their scent-tracking is really high, and his <HIDING> is just enough to hide himself.

His sword glowed a pale white, similar to the color of a bone. He silently moved behind one of the Wolves and did a <Double Backslash> on one of them, killing it. Immediately, the other wolves yelped and turned on him. They leaped towards dotcom, but he easily retreated by jumping backwards. One of the Wolves managed to close in on dotcom, but he used his <DELAY> skill, and followed it up with a <Delay Combo>. The monster immediately crumbled into pixels. The other three however were not down. Heh. This might take some time.

Lucina
Player
Floor 1: Dungeons.

Lucina noticed a girl training near her when she heard a battle cry. The girl seemed to be trying to level up as well but just like Lucina, didn't succeed. Lucina sighed as she came closer, this girl looked so young... why would Kayaba do something cruel as locking young childeren inside a game? It's just sick.

Lucina neared the girl who's screen name was "Princess". Once she was behind her she tried to create a manlier voice than her own and spoke. "Getting experience points will get harder once you reached level 13, It took me 2 whole days to get it this far." Lucina showed her experience bar to the little girl. The experience bar was 48% away from reaching level 15, but it had taken a long time. "I expect that from on level 15 we won't be able to get experience points on this floor any more." Lucina spoke as she kept hiding her face in the hood.

Lucina started to wonder why this girl was here all alone in this game. "How did you end up here in the game? You look pretty young." Lucina asked the obviously shorter girl while she took a view in her menu to check how late it was right now. Lucina was a little restless at this point... one month had past and no one had found the teleport to the second floor yet, how long would they be stuck inside this place? It shouldn't take too long, she wanted to protect Jade who was probably still near her real body, waiting for her to wake up.

Maria put her daggers away nearly jumping when she heard a voice from behind her. "Getting experience points will get harder once you reached level 13, It took me 2 whole days to get it this far." she turned to see the other player Lucina standing there showing her their experience bar that was 48% from level 15. "I expect that from on level 15 we won't be able to get experience points on this floor any more." Lucina continued and Maria noticed the other player was hiding her face but that didn't bother her. People were entitled to their secrets. "How did you end up here in the game? You look pretty young."

Maria sighed. "I'm 12, was playing with my older brother...but" she looked at the ground sadly. "right after Kayaba finished telling us we were trapped here til we beat the game or died...my brother died." Maria bit her lip to keep from crying. "since we were still in the Town of Beginnings I knew that one of our parents took his helmet off. If you stuck around even for a minute...you probably heard the commotion I caused when it happened" looking back up Maria wiped at her eyes to keep the tears from falling.

"as for experience slowing. I knew this would happen. My brother was a beater, though now people think I am"

William Danielson||Godot
Lv. 11||Floor 1

The moment Godot tried to open the book that was given to him by Arc, it burst into shards of light and disintegrated. He then gained an alert that said that he had a new quest available. He went to the quest log and read what he had to do.

A Key! A Key! My Stew for a Key!

Well, well, Godot, it looks like you managed to defeat Arc, and even without killing him. As he may have told you, you are now my disciple. This does not mean I have dominion over you, however. After all, does man ever truly have dominion over a shark that he captures? No, you are a disciple only in title, but your will is free.

Now, I bet you wondering what is in that box. Well, you know what they say about curiosity....she's a beautiful gal. HAH! Actually, that box is why I'm sending you this message. I will give you the key if you can make a stew for me. Did I mention that I also dabbled in rhyming? Anyway, you are to find a wyvern egg and create a stew out of it for me. Where, you may ask, can you find such an egg? Well where's the fun in me just telling you?

When Godot was done reading the message, he tugged on his coat. "A wyvern egg, huh?" This brought memories rushing back, memories from his early days of SAO. Painful memories, but ones that he had to bear, as he considered his ineptness to have been the cause of it all.

---

William Danielson||Godot
Lv. 3||Floor 1

On the fourth day after arriving in Aincrad, Godot made his first friend, Alistair. Alistair, at that point, was a level 8 who level-ground against dungeon bosses using a unique skill that allowed him to revive once per day. It was broken, but it was an essential skill in helping advance to higher floors. Alistair noticed the level 3 Godot and decided to take Godot to one of the high level dungeons to boost his level so he would be able to not only survive dire situations, but to also allow him to gain more materials from the wild safely. It was dangerous, but Alistair gave him plenty of healing items and swore that he'd protect him, so Godot reluctantly agreed to go along. The two created a party and set forth towards a level ten dungeon which, oddly, was devoid of any monsters at all. The path they walked was narrow and long, with seemingly no end in sight. Then, a loud whistling sound could be heard in the distance. Noting this, Alistair motioned for Godot to be quiet and to stop moving. Godot complied, and the two simple stood in motionless silence for a few moments, until finally a gigantic anchor fell from the ceiling and destroyed one side of the path, and another anchor promptly dropped from the opposite side, leaving the two isolated on a synthetic path. Then, from above came a wyrm. The wyrm swooped down and clawed at Alistair, nearly killing him and almost causing him to fall off of the edge of the island. Godot made quick to heal him, and then quickly made to teleport out of the dungeon. Much to his disappointment, however, teleportation items did not seem to work. The wyrm started towards Godot as if to claw him, but Alistair parried and cut off one of the toes of the beast. The wyrm screeched in pain, and when it made its round it opened its great jaws to dismember and digest the chivalrous knight, but he wouldn't have that. After toying with his menu for a split-second, Alistair pulled out a rather ornamented Great Hammer, and just as the wyrm came close, he brought down the hammer with a mighty force unto the wyrm's head. However, being in its direct path, he was unable to stop it completely, and he clung the the wyrm's head as the two went hurtling into the deep chasm below.

Godot called out to Alistair in desperation, but there was no response. He unsure what to make of the situation, but he felt a great grief at the thought that Alistair may have died. He peered over the edge, but could see nothing in the vast darkness that lay below. He quickly opened his menu and then went to the "Friends" subcategory, promptly clicking Alistair's name. However, in place of a mapped location was the phrase "Area Unknown", and Godot didn't know what to make of that in terms of life or death, especially in terms of a character with a unique ability such as Alistair's. Hundreds of thoughts raced through his mind, each one ranging from hopeful to dark to realistic. The word "Congratulations!" appeared in front of him, giving off a rather cheery vibe that conflicted with the grim atmosphere. A door appeared in front of Godot; it was a wooden door with a bright light oozing out from the open crevices. He sighed and turned the handle to reveal a white room containing a treasure chest. In the treasure chest he found a tan coat called "The Dusty Rabbit". He looked at the coat with a grim expression, and then after a few moments he put it on. Upon doing so, the chest disappeared, and the room he was in transformed into the Town of Beginnings, but Godot was unable to move, pondering and mourning for the friend that he may have lost.

---

"...My brother was a beater, though now people think I am," Godot heard, breaking from his reminiscing. He noticed that the acoustics in the area created echoes, and that he wasn't where he was before he became lost in thought. He was in the dungeons, and he overheard two other PCs having a conversation. He didn't miss a beat as he rushed over to the girl who had just spoken and put his sword to her neck.

"Well then why don't you put up or shut up? If you're truly a beta tester, then you'll be able to kill me. If not, the opposite is true." He moved the sword closer to her neck. "Honestly, I don't believe in this 'die in the game, die in real life' bullcrap that Kayaba's asserting, but death in here is still a pretty high stake. After all, a life is never a small ante." Godot moved the sword from her neck and equipped Meister's Soul in it's place, then put himself in a battle stance. "And don't worry, I'll be sure to let people know of your death. If you're as well known as you say then I'm sure your name will be cleared."

Yuri Irving-Eclipse ll Floor 1-Dungeons

"This is so aggravating!" Yuri exclaimed. He had just finished going through a whole group of monsters, but his experience bar had hardly gone up at all.We need to find the teleport to the next floor. So far, no one had been able to find it. A lot of Beaters had gone solo to try and find it. They had scoured the entire floor, but to no avail.Well, I guess I'd better leave, Yuri thought.There's no point to kill all these monster if we don't get any profit out of it. I guess I'll just go practice my flute some.

He had been told how useless skill with an instrument was in this world, but he had picked the skill up nevertheless. In this world, he thought,all the crafting skills are so simple. Music had been one of the only skills that you actually had to do, because you actually played the instrument. It wasn't just activate skill, select ingredients, then bam, you have a deep-fired tortoise.

A noise noise from ahead of him made him look up. He saw two players standing in the walkway, a small girl, and figure in a hooded cloak. To be perfectly honest, he didn't know if the cloaked figure was male or female.I guess I'll ask. The pair was conversing, and it looked as if the small girl had been crying.

Then a third figure joined them. He stood behind the girl and said loudly, "Well then why don't you put up or shut up? If you're truly a beta tester, then you'll be able to kill me. If not, the opposite is true." He moved the sword closer to her neck. "Honestly, I don't believe in this 'die in the game, die in real life' bullcrap that Kayaba's asserting, but death in here is still a pretty high stake. After all, a life is never a small ante." He moved the sword from her neck and equipped a strange polearm that looked like a fishing rod in it's place, then put himself in a battle stance. "And don't worry, I'll be sure to let people know of your death. If you're as well known as you say then I'm sure your name will be cleared."

"Hey!" Yuri yelled, drawing the attention of all three players. "Why don't you leave the girl alone?" You don't really need to fight her, and I'm quite sure she's never harmed you, so there's no reason to anyway."

Loot

dotcom wiped the Wolves' blood from his Parry Sword. Five bodies of the monsters lay near dotcom's feet. He sighed in exhaustion. It took him almost thirty minutes of battling before he managed to conquer the remaining three. He brought up his menu, and pulled out a [Healing Potion x 1] and drank it. Immediately, from 75%, his health points were filled up to 100%. He sheathed his sword, though he did not unequip it, as there may still be some monsters around. He started looting the corpses of the Wolves. He knew there is nothing much out of the battle, but at least he could gain something. True enough, from the corpses, he got [Wolf Meat x5]. The item is precious to dotcom as he can use it to level his <ALCHEMY> by producing [Healing Potions] and, rarely [Stat Potions]. After looting, he checked his experience bar. It went higher to 3%. At least, I gained some experience. dotcom left the spot and continued walking along the dungeon.

Soon enough, he heard some people's voices. He immediately activated his <HIDING> skill, as to avoid detection. Who knows if these are NPC people.

"And don't worry, I'll be sure to let people know of your death. If you're as well known as you say then I'm sure your name will be cleared," dotcom heard a man's voice. So, it is either a really bad NPC or a Player-Killer. I hope it's the latter. Other players give more experience that regular monsters when killed. dotcom savored the idea of barging on in, be the hero, kill the player who is clearly terrorizing someone. Yes, he may be a player-killer, but he avoids to kill unless necessary. The opportunity to kill have yet to arise. And maybe, today I kill. Since he is already branded as a player-killer, he decided to live it up.

"Why don't you leave the girl alone? You don't really need to fight her, and I'm quite sure she's never harmed you, so there's no reason to anyway," another voice shouted. dotcom moved closer towatch the whole scene. There were four people, one hooded, another a young girl who was being held by a dark man, and another long-haired man. It seemed like it was the long-hair man that spoke out loud. Let's watch first, then act later.

KAT | Level 8
FLOOR 1; Somewhere in the Open Fields

"Boar... Boar... Well, look at that, a Boar!" Eyes rolling around as she pretends to be surprised. Just tiny purple pigs all the way around. Despite being called "Frenzy" they seem to attack only if provoked. Don't get her wrong, pigs are cute (sort of), but there could probably be some cuter creatures in this game. Like cats... God, she hopes there are some cats around...

Holding her WarHammer with her right arm, she begins to think if those pigs could at least be worth some training... She is still hesitant to the idea of hurting innocent creatures for no reason, but she can't remain Level 8 for the rest of eternity. Well, she probably can... but that wouldn't be the wisest thing to do right now...

Although... Maybe... Not this guys... They did nothing to her... It wouldn't be fair to hurt them if they haven't hurt her...

Perhaps it's time to head back to the closest village...

FLOOR 1; Somewhere in Horunka Village

A nice place, barring the occasional salesman who just bug you all day long. If she wasn't so short in Col she would actually live in here... Oh, well. Might as well stay in the local inn while that happens... Although, first, she has to come with a name for her WarHammer... Seriously, what makes it special if she just keeps calling it WarHammer? She needs a better name for it... something regal, complex and exotic at the same time! War... Hammer... War... Hammer... War... Hammer... War... Hammer.

Okay, she's got nothing. How long has she been walking while thinking a name up? She no longer seems to be able to recognize where she is. Although the cold breezes are somewhat nice... Let's keep going. As for the name... Let's see... Hammer is Martillo in Spanish, and she want a regal name, so... That's it! Martillo de Regal! It's so awesome and creative and awesome!

Martillo de Regal Level 1... Yikes! She shivers in excitement at the very sound of that phrase! Now she just needs an instrument with a cool name and--

THUD!

Auch! It seems as if the excitement had left her unable to acknowledge the inn that came each time closer to her face... At least she found it. Retrieving her focus from her train of thought, she proceeds to walk inside it. Not much to see, other that highly-defined pixels and a person handling rooms. Although she wasn't really paying any attention to the whole process, so, she may or may not know what room she's supposed to sleep at...

Don't matter! She will just walk in some random room and hope for the best! Who knows, maybe there's a cat inside... Or two cats. The more cats, the merrier!

"Hello, strangers!" Was the way she decided to greet whoever was inside the room... To her surprise, there was someone. Not a cat, but a guy white white hair... She decided to eye him with enough curiosity and a face-wide smile.

She silently awaited any sort of reaction from this non-feline specimen.
