I like the idea of catching my starter in the wild, but it seems like to make it consistent, the starters would have to be available for capture in that area throughout the game, making it easy to obtain all starters. Which, in my opinion, is no fun. Perhaps they could be inconsistent though, they did it with catching your Pikachu in Yellow version.

I'd like to see that as well. I miss the simplicity of starting your Pokémon journey by going to the Professor's Lab and getting your starter, like your supposed to.

Yeah, I'd like to see this return.

It would bring back fun memories and I didn't like how starters were received in recent games.

From a vending machine XD

That's kind of... not really an exciting way to get them. XD; Plus the poor creatures may never get chosen if the vending machine breaks (it's Pokemon, BUT STILL). :(

I'd like something along the lines of being asked a question before the game even begins:

"So, what color do you like the most?"
>Green
>Red
>Blue

Based on your choice, the game would start with your mother scolding you because your Pokemon has made a mess of the living room, again. When you go out to see it, there's your Starter Pokemon waiting amidst debris. Obviously, choosing Green would mean Chespin would be standing there and so on and so on for Fennekin and Froakie.

That way it's starting a new journey, but your character already has a bond with this little creature to add a deeper emotional connection. Perhaps, later on in the story there's a chance your Starter is taken, leaving the main character distraught because that was his/her best friend.

I'm more into the classic way to get your starter (the professor tells you to choose a Pokemon at the lab), and just go with it. xD However, you know in Pokemon Yellow, Professor Oak caught the Pikachu and eventually gave it to the player? I'd love to see the player actually catch the starter and keep it as their own Pokemon. It'll combine the starter introduction, AND the Pokeball tutorial all in one. :D

I would like to be tagging along with the professor on some "expedition" and you remind him where he is going again (Lake, Forest, or Mountain) and that determines the starter, who you see injured while on the expedition, you both bring it to the lab and he says it likes you or something and you keep it.

Then, your rival busts into your house saying his mom/dad bought him a pokemon (the one your weak to) This will help push the whole (your choosen, your rival is not) approach.

I do definitely hope the wandering the overworld and leveling a little before fighting the rival from Gen II/III return. For when they give you the starter and then "Oh hi rival let's fight," with the exception of Gen I, where you get a potion, the battle feels like a coin flip on whether or not you win.

As for how you get the starters, I just hope it's not tacky like it was in Gen IV. I didn't really like the "Oh hi, we're being attacked, let's 'borrow' these Pokemon."

I'd like to meet my starter in some sort of predicament in which we work together to get out of. Better bonding and what not. Like say the pokeballs fell down a hill into some kinda forest and you had to go find 'em. Of which the first pokemon you found was your partner.

i agree with giradialkia. I miss those times when you could just walk up to a table and pick your starter. But i also want X and Y to be unique. so my idea is this: during the intro scene, you take a quiz to determine your personality. Then, based on the results of that quiz, you get Froakie, Fennekin, or Chespin. The quiz would ask you questions like "Do you like swimming?", where if you answered "Yes", there was a chance you would get Froakie. yes, i know that sounds like PMD, but it's a good idea, right?

In a unique way -- that's how I'd like to receive my starter. I'm sure they'll think of something... but honestly, we'll probably be so excited that won't give a crap on how we get it because we'll just want to play.

yeah, probably. oh, i also noticed you had Toph from Avatar: TLA in your Sig. that's AWESOME. I've been a HUGE ATLA fan since, like, forever. ANYWAY, i totally agree with you. when X and Y come out, i bet not ONE store will have it in stock. it's gonna just be bought 'till there's none left. then what about those who DIDN'T pre-order, like me? we're SOL (so outta luck). guess i'll just have to wait for Christmas...

What I'd like to see... is something like how Hugh got his starter... was from raising it from it's egg form.

I'd like to see something like that for the player, and just as soon as the player walks to where his Pokémon is, then it shows a silhouette of some shape (where you choose as either Chespin, Fennekin or Froakie) and then taking it with you. And that it would say something that you've raised this Pokémon since it was an egg.

Wouldn't that be interesting? I know it kind of sounds familiar to Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity, but I think that would be a great concept. ^^

Definitely something along the lines of this!
Maybe right at the beginning of the game when Professor X asks for your gender and name, he/ she also asks what your favourite type is out of Grass, Fire and Water. You then wake up in your bed and head over to your rival's house with your egg, when on the way it hatches. If you chose Grass at the beginning, Chespin would hatch, Fire, Fennekin etc.
This way you would feel even more close to your Pokemon considering you raised them from an egg. I know I always feel closer to them if I do.
The only problem I can see in this beginning from Level 1. They would have to nerf the first route or just have some sequence where a couple of weeks pass and your Pokemon is level 5. Actually the latter sounds awesome.

...I wish for this.

I would like to see them do something different this time around and I have a slight feeling that they will. Well I hope so anyways. Either way I don't mind I just want the game so bad! .^_^.

I'd like it to just be quick and simple and let me go on my way.

(With a mode that lets me skip those annoying tutorials, I've been playing Pokemon for 15ish years, I know how to catch Pokemon.)

If this game's going to be in 3D it could be intresting to see it as a mini-game

You walk into the professors lab and see it destroyed, and the three starters are just running around. You have to like catch up to which ever starter you want and your neighbor/rival could get the other one and the professor (or other rival if we're going B2/W2 Style) could get the final

That could be rather challenging, but quite good at the same time. How about it being that the Pokémon are still inside their Poké Balls, and then you choose whichever one you'd like?

Or maybe you get to choose at the start and then later the lab gets broken into and two Poké Balls are stolen, and only one that the Professor still has had kept it safe for you and you obtain it.

I'd like someone other than the professor giving you your Pokémon. Like you work for a farmer, and you have to do a mini-game with a generic Pokémon (The Gen VI Pidgey/Rattata) and once you've completed it, he lets you chose one of his Pokémon that he bred, and in the back of the farm, there is a room with multiple starters. These starters levels vary from 1-5, and you can choose any of them. Once you have your starter, you go home and the Professor is there. They reveal that they were there to ask you to go on a journey, and it's here where they give you your Pokédex.

That'd make it a lot harder for you if you chose a level 1, though. If they were newly hatched on the farm, maaaybe but I think if they were all equal would make more sense-

Actually that gives me an idea. What if they gave us more than one starter? What could the reasoning for this be in terms of what the professor telling you?

I was thinking the way you had to catch those farfetched in Hg/Ss, they could just be moving aroung the lab. Obviously the noise part of it wouldnt be there But it'd be a cool way to introduce everyone to the new starters

isnt that the same gerneric way you always get them XD?

The most unique and interesting way was choosing it to save the professor in Gen III, so I would vastly prefer something like that again. I don't like the whole "Oh you're preparing for a journey! Go get your first Pokémon!!" I think it would be pretty cool if you have to choose it to save someone in the wild, and the professor notices and decides to send you on an adventure because he/she deems you to be exceptional and full of potential to be great. He/she talks to your mother and gets her permission, and then you begin your adventure.

This kinda breaks the formula but i think it would be cool if the daycare center had pokemon left behind so you either get an egg or recently hatched pokemon from them.
