Otherkin is a somewhat underground culture of those who believe that they, in spirit, mentality or otherwise, are something else rather than Human, despite being Human anyway. This belief almost always requires a belief in reincarnation (though nothing is definitive, and everyone who follows this sort of belief has their own thoughts and views on it, so I'm trying my best not to step on any toes) and varies from people believing they are everything from animals, to otherworldly or fantasy creatures, to angels, demons, gods, demigods, and even fictional characters. Whether others believe it or not, it has a surprisingly large following (and should not be confused with the furry community, though there are people who follow/support both, they are very different things) and most everyone I've met within it keep it to themselves. And this is understandable. People are brash and judgemental, and society give people a hive-mind of negativity and discrimination that, whether it is true or not, is not right to act like. Otherkin as a whole is not something that can be proven or disproven, mostly because people who claim to P-Shift (physically shift their body, for example, growing fur or changing skeletal structure) are lying and do not have proof to back it up. It's all about the mental process, the emotional toll it carries, and everything relating to those past lives or other spirits inside. I tend to believe in the otherkin who have had a hard time in their lives because of the fact; the community is also, unfortunately, full of roleplayers (not like on this site, which is creative writing, which I'm also a part of) who fake it for attention or people who just come in to harass or troll the Otherkin community. It's not the type of thing one would expect others to easily believe, but it is definitely something easy to mock if admitted.

That said, I've seen some good people in this community, and I feel like this one may be more understanding of the qualms related to the topic, whether they believe it is possible or not. PokeCommunity has always been kind and fair, as far as my RPCorner experience has been, and I have no reason to believe any other section is any different. Hi, by the way. I almost never diverge from RPCorner, but I figured, if I'm going to do this, this would be the best place.

I am part of this community, if it wasn't inherently obvious. I know the massive, crippling hindrances to being a part of it, and I've felt them many a time before now. At this point, I honestly don't care what others think of me, how believable my story is, any of it. But despite being a loner and introvert beyond belief, I feel better just putting them out in the open, whatever happens. My story is actually probably one of the less believable of the bunch, but either way, I'm going to put it out here. First, because laziness, here's a little excerpt of what Wikipedia says about Otherkin:

    Quote:
Otherkin are a community of people who see themselves as partially or entirely non-human. They believe that they are, in spirit if not in body, not human. This is explained by some members of the otherkin community as possible through reincarnation, having a nonhuman soul, ancestry, or symbolic metaphor. According to Joseph Laycock, "scholarship has framed this claim as religious because it is frequently supported by a framework of metaphysical beliefs." Not all otherkin necessarily share these beliefs; some may simply prefer to identify as non-human.

Otherkin largely identify as mythical creatures, with others identifying as real-life creatures or creatures from fantasy or popular culture. Examples include: angels, demons, dragons, elves, fairies, sprites, and plants. Many otherkin believe in the existence of a multitude of parallel/alternative universes, which would explain the existence and the possibility to relate to fantastical beings and even fictional characters.

With regards to their online communities, otherkin largely function without formal authority structures, and mostly focus on support and information gathering, often dividing into more specific groups based on kintype. There are occasional offline gathers, but the otherkin network is an almost entirely online phenomenon.

Some otherkin (such as elvenkin) claim they are allergic to iron (and products of modern technology), whilst other otherkin (such as dragonkin) claim that having no allergies is a sign of being an otherkin. Some otherkin also claim to be especially empathic and attuned to nature. Some claim to be able to shapeshift mentally or astrally—meaning that they experience the sense of being in their particular form while not actually changing physically.

The therian and vampire subcultures are related to the otherkin community, and are considered part of it by most otherkin, but are culturally and historically distinct movements of their own despite some overlap in membership.
Here's my Otherkin story, memories I've collected after years of awakening, for those curious. I'm "coming out" here and now.

    Spoiler:
    REAL NAME: NAME WITHHELD
    CALL ME: YAMI ONYX DUSK
    CLASSIFICATION: WOLFKIN DEMONKIN
    SPECIES: ライケン(RAIKEN)

    「銀ヤミ」 ライケン(RAIKEN)
This life is the central point of my memories, bringing most of my personality and memories. It defined me most as an individual and an Otherkin. It was a world apart from this one. I've yet to learn of the name of the world (if it even had one) or where it is relative to this one. It could merely be an alternate dimension or universe, maybe even a different time period; I still don't know. I know that my race was called Raiken (NOT Werewolves/Lycanthropes) we spoke a language very similar to Japanese, however, it would sound broken by comparison to modern Japanese.

ライケン, or RAIKEN, is what we called ourselves. It is merely a bad coincidence that it is said exactly like "Lycan" today. We were just like wolves in physical appearance and structure, though we were well-known for our ability to take a Humanoid form and use it skillfully. While it was merely a disguise, it was tangible, and we were trained as pups to operate well in either form. There were two lifestyles for us. Some, called Roamers, traveled the world with their families, adapting to every environment. Others, like my family, were settlers. Settler families are formed when one Raiken performs an incredible task or makes a huge discovery.

My family's first ancestor discovered the precious metal silver, giving him the family name of "Gin" as he settled and formed a castle next to the mountain where he discovered the - at the time - new material. This is how my family settled. After a number of generations, I was born into the family as the middle child. My parents ruled the family as a kingdom of sorts, with my older brother ライト (RAITO, meaning "Light") as the next heir and a formidable warrior. My little sister ユキ (YUKI, meaning "Snow") knew a great deal about healing through herbs and even possessed a special ability to heal with what I assume was her own personal aura.

I was the middle of the three children, named ヤミ (YAMI, meaning "Dark"). This was given to me because I was blessed with the ability to use and control shadows. I was unique to the clan in that I was the first known Raiken with multiple eye colors. Our family were all black-pelted and green-eyed, though my right eye was an icy blue. This was later discovered to be related to an internal heart/lung problem.

I was neglected as a pup all the way into adulthood, seeing as my parents shortly after my birth had the son and daughter they'd wanted. Nonetheless, my siblings gave me the attention I sought and required, and the three of us were extremely close throughout childhood. However, as Light became one of the greatest warriors of our clan, and Yuki became busy as the clan's only healer, we grew apart as I reached young adulthood. However, I raised myself from that point on, leaving my clan on a daily basis to explore the world.

I met many people, and practiced my skills of stealth and shadow-shifting, as well as trained myself in a unique weapon style of wielding a dagger in each hand. By training in ambidexterity (attempting to strengthen your non-dominant hand so that you can use both equally) I mastered the style, able to fight with flurries of slashes in no time flat, and great accuracy when throwing blades, even when throwing many at once. I even met レイベン (REIBEN, meaning "Raven"), a Raiken roamer who I got along with extremely well, despite having a rivalry with her brother. I still know her in this life, though not in the same way I know others.

I had a black pelt with a faint blue-purple tint to it, a green eye, a blue eye, and I was very lean-muscled (meaning I was muscular, but it was well-hidden). I was slightly taller than average (though dwarfed by Light in comparison) and my pelt was medium-length. My Humanoid disguise matched these features, adding pale skin, narrowed eyes, and medium-length black hair swept to my right with a short ponytail.

    「オニキス」 悪魔(DEMON)
I remember a majority of this life now. I was incarnated from my previous life's spirit, becoming a demon. A being with black wings and unbelievable power stored within in the form of blue flames. I was among other demons of my kind, meant to bring "karma" to cruel beings, under the watchful eye of some unjust gods. A being came into question, one who was initially an awful figure, but wanted to change and make amends. When the gods looked to end that life, I stood against it. I was made a demon to bring suffering to the living, but I stood my ground and stuck to my morality. As a result, I was expelled from their realm, rejected by those gods, and forced to live another life, only this time with the near limitless power of being a demon and the fear from others that came with it.

Immediately after being taken from that realm, I remember falling from the sky, black feathers scattering all throughout the sky. From my wings, no doubt. I crashed into the ocean, slowly drowning in my first seconds of life. A priestess who happened to be passing must have heard me splash when I hit the ocean waters, because she came to my rescue. I had died, drowned, but she revived me with some sort of abilities of light. She then brought me to an abandoned shack of some sort near the beach and tended to my injuries. Despite being a priestess and a demon, we got along almost immediately.

    「???」 ホッキョク・オオカミ(ARCTIC WOLF)
This is the first life I assume took place on Earth. This is a life in which only the basic concept has come to me. I was, of course, a wolf. I lived in North America alongside a tribe of Native Americans as if I was one of them. We (wolves) hunted for the tribe, and they helped take care of us. We took care of one another as if we were one of a kind. Believe it or not, there were indeed arctic wolves in North America.

    「???」 侍(SAMURAI)
Another segment in which I am only aware of the base concept. All I know of this is that I was a Samurai in Japan's feudal era. Master of wielding two katanas, much as I did in my first life.

    NAME WITHHELD」 人間(HUMAN)
Trapped within a Human body (as we all are) and forced to live a Human facade of a life. I'm American in this life, Mostly Irish, German, slight traces of Dutch and a few other things. I still have heterochromia (both blue eyes, though the left is darker and has a splotch of golden-brown in it) and I started remembering these things about five or six years ago (so, right at the start of my early teens). Two years ago, I woke up from an event that left me trapped within my own subconscious for over two years. One night, about five years ago, I had a dream. I stood on a one-way road, with dense fog all around, facing a white wolf. It growled, spoke something I didn't understand, and ran /into/ me. Literally.

I simply stood there, and I had no idea what was going to happen. By the following morning, Silver (ironically named) now controlled my body. For two whole years, two years of my life, I was left in the subconscious of my own mind, sleeping as if in a coma. He owned my body for the entirety of that time. And in that time, he dated and broke the heart of someone who I know as the first soulmate I've met, and led me to my ex-girlfriend. My first moments of consciousness, the moment he left my body, he had me going out with her.

Two more years of my life taken from me. I was in a false sense of happiness, clinically depressed, and I was manipulated and treated like worthless ♥♥♥♥ (pardon the language) in those years, and it was only about late 2013 that I broke free and am now back to myself. She was extremely manipulative, and I'm relatively certain Silver had something to do with her. I don't know if it's relevant, but she was Wiccan before I actually met her.

Nonetheless, I'm free now. I know three others from my past at this point. Raven, who now follows me in spirit, not unlike a Guardian Angel of sorts. Light, who I actually live in the same house with, as we are currently stepbrothers. However, he is not awakened, and may never be. Lastly, I now know my little sister, Yuki. This is a recent discovery, but a friend of mine going unnamed, whom I was already friends with, has recently begun her awakening.

I finally feel complete in spirit, with my demonic energy restoring in me. I can see and almost recognize the blue flames, which rest dormant behind me in the shape of wings. I've noticed when talking my mouth moves slightly differently now, as if to compensate for fangs in the corners of my mouth. I believe this side of me awakened when I came into contact with someone somewhat recently.

As of the beginning of March 2014, the part of me that came of this life is dead. My seals are broken, and my flames are growing rapidly. The flames, as described to me by someone who can see energies, is very blue with silver and black mixed in.

I've opened up, purely for the sake of opening up, and spreading awareness that this is in fact a thing that numerous people believe in, myself included. If there are others here, I hope to help you to be open as I have. Otherwise, I only ask that criticism is constructive and that conversation that may arise here is rational and open-minded. We can't prove that any of this is real, just as much as others cannot disprove anything spiritual or mental. Just be mindful of feelings and beliefs and try to be more open than judgemental.

Hey cool! I'll be honest that I've had the thought cross my mind a lot. I would definitely say that I have a close affinity to corvids. I dunno if I'm actually otherkin though. I'm honestly just some sort of hobbly bobbly jobbly wobbly something that I just call me.

Anyways, glad that you could come to terms with yourself.

Thank you. Though I have come to terms long ago, I just decided I am going to be open about it in this community, despite what happens.

On a side note, your sig-gif is so freaking precious.

I'm not quite sure I understand. Correct me if I'm wrong - you basically consider yourself to be partially non-human because you have memories and such from a past life where you were such a thing?

I actually find this extremely interesting (I have a journalistic heart). More information would be amazing, if you can dig up some more examples or something!

More or less completely nonhuman at this point, minus a small portion of a previous life being Human, and my own being physically human. I have the mentality of my first two lives, I feel that shape and feeling in spirit, that sort of thing. "Phantom Limbs" is another thing; meaning to feel a ligament or body part you do not have; like wings, paws, and other features.

I can only provide as much information as is specifically asked about, though hopefully there are others here willing to discuss their own thoughts and information as well.

For some reason I can't help but feel this is a very elaborate troll of some kind or a fiction gone a wee bit far... but I'll keep an open mind and ask a few questions before I draw anything from this.

First of all, how did you collect these memories, exactly? Can you explain the process of collecting said memories in some degree of detail?

Then, what do you want to do in life? Like, is this something you feel you can apply to some significant purpose in your life? Would being a demon in a past life have influenced your personality and who you are today, in your opinion? Would a law abiding view go out of the window when it came to usage of drugs and such, as a result of your past influences?

This is definitely the most peculiar thing I've seen on this forum to date and I really don't think this is one I'll wrap my head around. I'll try, I suppose.

A lot of people tend to make those sorts of assumptions. but the best I can do is assure you I am serious about this.

Memories can be discovered in many ways. I'm probably not the most common type, but I at least know some about most of the more common 'kin types. Otherkin generally have an 'awakening' at some point in their lives, when these memories begin popping up in their minds. Once the awakening happens, they start gaining these memories in succession. Some dream of them, some meditate and can more likely trigger them, some just have certain triggers that need to be pulled first. Personally, I get mine through my sleep, though I'm not one to call them dreams. I have not had a single dream in all of my childhood to this day; my sleep is almost always just a black void of sleep and nothing more. I assume it was what most people feel when they clear their minds and meditate; especially since I /cannot/ meditate no matter how I try. After my awakening, these memories all came with time, I began to piece them together, try to dig deeper into them, try to understand everything and how they correlate with one another. The story provided is the result. The best I can describe it is vivid, but not lucid, with an overwhelming sense of deja vu.

Personally, while it does toll on my personality, and make it much harder to fit in (I've sort of made a human facade that I fall under with near everyone) or be myself, it hasn't affected my this-life goals in terms of career or anything of that sort. I've recently sort of achieved my top-goal already, but as far as career I'd say I want to animate. For me, my only significant focus in life is my mate whom I recently found, and I'm perfectly happy focusing all on her. RAIKEN are all born with one thing that they cannot be happy without, but they can be happy with no matter the circumstance. In my case, it was love with the twinflame (a relationship belief that two people are just halves of one soul waiting to find one another), so even in the worst scenarios, she will make me happy. It definitely /is/ my personality, though I'm very much adaptable (though not so much in various places) so I'm trying to fit in and be more morally correct. I'm not sure how to answer the last question exactly, but I've been working perfectly fine within the rules of the world and my country of origin, so there have been no issues on that front; and I've never done or had the desire to do any drugs, personally.

You mention that you feel non-human - how would you describe being human? In your understanding, what are the characteristics that would qualify one to be human? Why do you believe you are something other-than-human yet still describe yourself as being human anyways (as in the OP)?

Boy, I should've been a little more prepared for Q&A than I was... I don't mind it much, just kinda lazy.

I would describe human as... I guess feeling a more proper fit in this body, feeling actually related to my blood, having the common sense that nearly everyone else seems to have while I lack. It's very difficult to put into words past saying something simple like "it just doesn't feel right". When I describe myself as Human, I refer to one previous past life (though it made very little mark on my soul, I think), or I refer to myself in this life. Because I can't say that I'm physically not human, that would be flat-out untrue. The act of being nonhuman means that while you reside in a human body, you come from elsewhere. I don't know if this explained much, but I've always had an issue with proper wording and the result has been a lot of unintended negative conflict.

Could you expand on the first sentence? Especially because I'm not sure what you mean when you say "feeling actually related to [your] blood". As for the second, are you familiar at all with the psychological concepts of dysphoria and dissociation?

Is this "otherkin" identity your only outlet for these feelings? Are you aware of and have you considered others? What led you to otherkin over what could be argued to be a world of other possibilities?

By blood I meant people who are related to me in this life by blood. I'm stillnot sure how to explain it any better because I really don't know any words good enough to properly describe it, if they exist. I'm familiar with the terms, but I sincerely don't feel like either apply.

I wouldn't really call it an outlet, either. I questioned many things as it started, but pieces continued fitting together, I met others with their own experiences (a lot of people actually), and when I met the person who was my sister from my first life, it became all the more definitive, especially because she awoke with a memory that I also had, that we had both been there for; despite my not even telling her anything about it. I mean, I'm not expecting others to believe it, and I was somewhat anticipating that others might try to diagnose it to a mental condition, but I don't think doing so would solve nor prove/disprove anything either. I started out full of doubt, but kept an open mind to it all. My thoughts and reasoning in piecing everything together were logically made and now, after all of it, I feel I've some stable footing, so to speak, on who and what I am or was.

I don't really know what it is that you want to discuss about this. You're free to believe whatever you want to believe and no one's got a right to stop you if you aren't hurting anyone. I mean, that won't stop me from believing you're some rather large number of cards short of a full deck, but hey, I'm pretty tolerant of crazy as long as it's not obnoxious.

That said, trying to start a public discussion about it kind of makes you like the guy who asks you on the street if you'd like to take a minute to hear about Jesus. It's just awkward. Beliefs like this are a personal thing and you usually only discuss them with others already interested in them (usually fellow believers). Talking about your particular set of beliefs to people who don't share them and haven't sought out information about them... I'm not seeing the point. Like I said, it just seems weird. If they wanted to know, they'd Google it. So I guess I'm not seeing the reasoning behind it. I just think a general discussion of uncommon beliefs would be more appropriate for this forum (but it's not my call).

While I feel that statement could have been softened a little more than that, I do respect your right to believe what you will. And hey, I am crazy, just not in the way one might think.

It's more of an awareness sort of thing. Most people have never heard of anything of the sort before, and they couldn't google something that they'd never heard anything about. I wanted to just throw it out there (so to speak) to let people know that it is in fact a thing that exists and has a cultured following behind it. Discussion is pretty much free reign from there.

I don't know if this is related, but sometimes I feel like I'm an African-American. The discrimination I face daily wounds me deeply - people just assume I'm some sort of "wigger", but the truth is that inside I really feel that I am black on the outside.

I probably came off a bit more of a jerk than I meant to be, since I've been drinking tonight and I tend to be a lot more blunt and a lot less tactful when I am. But I did mean what I said, I just didn't mean to be as much of a jerk as I probably was.

I'm fine with discussions on a specific, well-known topic that a lot of people can contribute to, and I'm fine with discussions about general topics that there isn't much knowledge about. But this seems like a discussion of an obscure, specific topic that not many people can really contribute to. It's kind of an odd distinction to make, but I think it's important. A thread like this doesn't really have much chance for other people to add anything other than "oh that's interesting, tell me more" unless they're already "in" on it. With a more general thread, people can share their own experiences with off-beliefs and what they think about the topic in general, I think there's a lot more insight and discussion to be had in a thread like that.

But that might just be me. Like I said, it's not my call to make. This is just my two cents on the whole thing. This is kind of going into meta territory here, though, so I'll drop it. This isn't the place for meta discussions, and I shouldn't be trying to talk about it when I'm drinking, anyway.

How the ♥♥♥♥ does that even work. I know it sounds rude, but come on, there's no measurable difference between being a person who is black as opposed to someone who is white or whatever colour you are, outside of the physical amount of melanin there is in your skin.

Otherkin at least is linked to ideas like spirit animals, animal symbols and a connection to nature. You're basically saying that you feel like you were born the wrong colour, which doesn't mean anything outside of colour. Go to Detroit, you will see plenty of people who "act like African Americans" and aren't, because there's no such ♥♥♥♥ing thing as acting like "African Americans". You're all ♥♥♥♥ing homo sapiens, get over it.

I please hope that this is a troll post, and even then, you should feel ashamed. The sad thing is, people play this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ straight with being Japanese or whatever and it's just like... urgh.

As I said, really the only intention was to spread some awareness about something most people have never heard of and may never. I mean, there's always the possibility that others are here, and could reveal themselves, but I don't expect them to. Just thought I'd "come out" with it and be open rather than be is an almost entirely friendly community and fake being someone else.

There are a lot of people who feel that way. I figure he was just screwing around, but it's always possible. It's much like how some people feel they aren't the right sex, or born in the right country, or something of that sort. You obviously aren't that anymore, but you very well cold have been in a previous life, and there's the additional possibility (that is more common than not) that it could have an effect on something like personality or mentality. Not always, but possible.

On a side note, I love how PC replaces swearing with hearts.

I figured as much, but I still try to keep an open mind. I think I recall a quote someone told me a while ago... "Keep your mind open, but not so open that your brains fall out."

This is pretty interesting, actually. I wouldn't associate myself with otherkin or anything, but I'm very cattish in nature. The way I cuddle and nuzzle my boyfriend's neck with my own head and neck, the way I like to poke his nose with mine, how I feel affection by having behind my ears scratched and petted (and the fact I enjoy doing this to him). I'm big on head tilts, too, when I'm curious or just being silly. Another thing would be sound-making: rather than talking, I'll make sounds that indicate how I'm feeling or what I need. After almost a year, he understands what they mean lol and I try to convince myself that other people use noises to communicate, too, but I'm just fooling myself I'm the only one we both know that does it. He thinks it's cute, though.

He even bought me kitty ears and a bell collar :$ so cuteee <3 /purr

I do have a couple of suggestions/criticisms, but I want to preface all of that with some affirmation. Regardless of how much of the past life scenario is true - and and in what way it is true - the fact that you have found some degree of inner peace is a wonderful thing. And actually, the mental healing that has coming from owning your "otherness" indicates that there is some significant and healthy psychological dynamic going on here.

My personal opinion, grounded in the fundamentals of psychology, is that you have re-owned one or more inner drives that you were previously burying or rejecting. The overall theme here is a battle, within you, between being dominated and being assertive, powerful, and in control.

As an explorer of the transpersonal, I also have some familiarity with spiritual and subtle experiences. Your experience of being taken over by a wolf has some similarity to the experiences that people report of being abducted by aliens. The correlation is not obvious, so I'll elaborate here.

The odd thing about the abductee stories is that very ordinary people, with no astonishing mental or physical traits, are chosen by the aliens to be the progenitors of a new hybrid race. You'd think the aliens would want the cream of the crop! So what I see happening is a genuine spiritual experience that is being inadequately interpreted when the person returns to their normal frame of mind.

I suppose the point that I'm getting after is that your past lives, and possession, are undoubtedly real experiences. But I suggest that perhaps you are misinterpreting them in some fashion. It's just something to consider, which may be helpful in the future.

This is perhaps a minor aside, but everyone has multiple dreams every night. Biopsychological fact.

With that said, I have had an astonishing experience in the dream state which make me seriously question how much we really know about reality and the nature and significance of dreams. It's not strictly on topic, but here's the story if you're interested:
                        Spoiler:

For a couple of years, I've been writing my dreams down in order to remember them better and to be able to analyze them when I wish to.

This winter, I was listening to a report on NPR about how the FBI captured the Mexican drug lord El Chapo. The description of the chase, in which El Chapo fled into a drainage ditch that ran under a resort hotel, and then went into the building from underneath and went up to the fourth floor where he was caught, exactly matched a dream that I had written down over a year before. And in one of the other dreams that night, I had been in a favela or aluminum shanty with my poor family, where I drove down a dusty road on a motor bike.

I was fortunate to have written the dream down. Even though my dream recall is excellent, I am well aware of the way memories can and do get rewritten, and the extraordinary nature of this apparent clairvoyance would've caused me to doubt the accuracy of the dream - regardless of how vivid and clear the memory is even today.

I'm not your counselor, but in actual fact, your happiness comes from inside of you. If you allow your happiness to be dependent on external objects or events, you have committed to being unhappy in the present. I realize that this doesn't provide any solutions or helpful strategies, just pointing out the true nature of the situation.

Again, it's great that you've begun to resolve your conflicts. I know you didn't ask for guidance, but I feel compelled to do what I can to help people interpret their depths more fully.

I can respect all this coming from a psychologist, but I hope you can understand that I don't really believe that way of thinking, at least in my own situation.

First point, the possession. Being that I'm kind of an alien myself, I suppose I just look at it like possession, rather than an alien abduction sort of thing. That said, I don't think he was a wolf. In fact, I have my own theory, that there is somehow a connection between Silver and my ex that he led me to. I know that she previously performed magick, and I know that she is a very deceptive, manipulative person. I would like to consider him something of a summoned thing of some sort. I would like to think that I woke up in her awful relationship was her plan all along. She even attempted to put false memories in my head. Afterward, I broke all ties with her, and flushed out everything I knew was false. Either way. In fact, I know that Silver was initially on this website at some point, though I'm not sure where or who he was, what username he was under.

Dreams. Put simply, my mind just... Doesn't work like the average Human. That's partially why I don't believe psychology can explain it. And the dreaming, I still didn't have them. I've even had those nights of vividness and once even lucidity, but it was still blackness. It was... Peaceful. I believe it's what people normally experience in meditation, especially since I cannot actually meditate properly on command.

I don't believe the happiness comes from me, at least not directly. It's the same conundrum I'd had in every life, and it's the mentality given to me since life one. I tend to look at it like a permanent block, where the requirements must be met to unlock it, but as long as they are met, it's like an endless floodgate. Though, I guess that's beside the point.

I do appreciate the interest, I just have heard the psychological standpoint before and even questioned it myself from time to time. I've really questioned just about every possibility on my way to full awakening, which is why I feel I can stand so strongly on my beliefs. I hope you don't take all these no's as simply stubbornness or flat-out denial or rejection.

Well, I'm not a psychologist, I'm just really well read. And everything you've said fits within the established research on how the conscious mind operates. I find it very hard to believe that your mind is radically different than other human minds, especially when being different is so fundamental to your identity.

Now were you to show that your brain structures are radically different, then we would have something to go on. Emotions emerged at the same time as mammalian brains, and self-reflective conscious emerged at the same time as the sentient mind. Without some extreme physical difference in the basic structure of your brain, there is no way for there to be an extreme mental difference in the basic structure of your mind.

It's odd that you have said that you are physically human, yet you're also claiming that your brain works differently from other human brains. Rather than simply professing a belief without evidence, perhaps you should contact a sleep researcher or something and see how your brain is actually functioning

But in the end, if you're happy (or at least happier), and you're ok with your interpretation of these things, then that's ok with me :]

Also, I am extremely envious of you "dark and peaceful" dream. What you are describing is being aware during the deep, dreamless phase of sleep - something that I fear I will have to spend years learning to do.

And on the subject of magic and such, I've had a weird dream experience as well with a girl who was into Wicca. She was into me, but married, so it was a no-go. One night I had a dream involving a woman who was pretty and nice, but then her face became disfigured. When I woke up, I had some very disturbing hypnagogic sensations of being dragged towards the head of my bed. That day, the chick called me. Very weird stuff.

A little off-topic I guess, except that we're discussing the weird and wild parts of the world as we (don't quite) know it.

I wouldn't say it's my brain directly, it's... Mrh... Kind of hard to explain. A lot of what I say isn't interpreted the way I meant, I'm so horrid with this language, first language or not ._.

I like to think it is coming from my spirit, rather than my brain, though that probably doesn't make sense.

That isn't just a stage of sleep to me, though, it's all of my sleep. I've been conscious throughout the entirety of one night, and it was like that all the way through. I didn't really think throughout it, and I didn't have to.

I'll stop here on that conversation, I think. I tend to get flighty in disagreements/arguments because of my experiences with others.

Is it pretty common for otherkin folk to have memories of a past life or lives?
