Pokémon Exile [1.0 Beta Demo (Remastered, 8 hrs)]

J8nlFqB.png

A PRIMAL FORCE HAS AWAKENED...

A brief note from the developer:

Hey everyone, it's PokeVec40 here again. I hope you all are excited for this new reboot of Pokémon Exile. Two years ago, it was brought to my attention that the production rate of this game was quite excellent, releasing new updates and content at a rapid pace. Quite frankly, however, the game's graphical and storyline quality suffered as a result. Thus, I decided to remake Pokémon Exile with better graphics, better maps, and better plot development. Unfortunately, this is why it's been two years (can you all believe it?) since my last released update. This new release, Beta 1.0 is unfortunately much shorter than the last alpha release since the remastering process has not yet caught up to the length of the previous release. Beta 1.0 currently ends in Sandrune Town, after the player explores Sanctuary Island, with a play through time of approximately 8 to 9 hours. Also, since many new plot elements and features were introduced in this release, save files may not be transferred over from alpha 0.8.

I'm not going to lie, the remastering process is slow and difficult, especially since I'm the sole developer of this project. Nevertheless, I am doing my best to stay on track to maybe one day release the full game. Now that I'm entering my second year of college, things are going to get tough and release dates may be pushed back farther than anticipated. From here forward, you all have my word that I will be doing my very best to not only produce a game that is long, but also a game that has depth, personality, and graphical quality. I wish you all the best, and I hope you enjoy the new reboot of Pokémon Exile!

-- PokeVec40.

A New Story in a New Region!
Plot:

The Rakosa Region has always been thought of as a true symbol of peace and harmony. It is a place where its inhabitants live as one with the Pokémon around them. However, little does anyone know of the dark past Rakosa Region- of a great tragedy shrouded by 1000 years of lost history. According to oral tradition, some say that there was once a Legendary Pokémon that created the region and served as its protector. But, after many years a war broke out between the region and its powerful protector that changed the course of the Rakosa Region forever...

Many centuries have passed since then, and Rakosa's dark history seems all but forgotten. The Region is once again prospering and rising from the ashes of it's war-torn former self. Yet, things do not remain tranquil for long. Mysterious auroras begin to appear in the sky, followed my strange meteorites that plummet to the ground and nearly wipe out entire cities. A shady organization, known as The Paradigm, claims to know the way to save the region from disaster. But, are these strange celestial events mere coincidence, or are they the work of a more powerful, ancient force at work? And, does The Paradigm truly know the path to the region's salvation, or are they up to something nefarious?

In the story of Pokémon Exile, you (Zach/Ashlyn) are an aspiring trainer who just moved to the Rakosa region from the Sinnoh region to the east. You and your mother take up residence in Caprock Town, which also happens to be where Professor Acacia, a Professor specializing in ancient and extinct Pokémon, works in his lab. You first meet up with your next-door neighbor, Kathryn, who is enthusiastic about Pokémon fossils, and you go with her to show Professor Acacia her fossil collection, where you meet Noland, his lab assistant. In order to complement his research, Prof. Acacia gives all three of you Pokédexes and one of the much-valued ArcNav prototypes, and asks you to travel the Rakosa Region, gathering data. As you travel across the region, both you and the professor hope to learn more about the new mysterious theory of Pokémon Primal Reversion. Little do you or your new friends know, however, how soon disaster is about to strike.

Your Choices, Your Story.

As the hero/heroine in Pokémon Exile, you will make choices that drastically affect the world around you. As the game progresses, judging from how you interact with others, sometimes new places and opportunities will present themselves, but sometimes they might not. As the plot progresses and you become more involved in this dynamic story, you will be faced with choices. Some will be trivial, with minimal consequences. Others, however, might be cataclysmic- they might require great personal and moral sacrifices...
In Pokémon Exile, when you choose your fate, you also choose the fate of the whole Rakosa Region with over 4 unique endings planned for the future!

As the arbiter of your own destiny in Pokémon Exile, what path will you choose?

Introducing... The ArcNav!

BONqdQp.png
The Archeozioc Pokémon Navigator, or "ArcNav" for short, is a small handheld device developed by Professor Acacia in conjunction with Devon Corp. It is able to remotely scan the DNA of Pokémon and identify them out in the field. It is specially designed to recognize Pokémon that are part of the Rakosa Archeozioc Pokedex, a Pokédex containing all the Pokémon that roamed the Rakosa Region in ancient times. The device fits around the user's arm like a wristwatch and can even tell time!

Using the ArcNav in in the field is very simple, and its interface is similar to the DexNav in OR/AS. Using it, the player can search for wild Pokémon in caves and tall grass. By encountering the same Pokémon repeatedly, the ArcNav's search Level will increase for that specific species, thus increasing the likelihood of the encountered Pokémon having a hidden ability or perfect IV's. Also, the ArcNav has chaining mechanics similar to OR/AS, allowing the player easily encounter and catch shiny Pokémon!

qDsPSrO.png

In the game, the ArcNav's HUD interface allows you to hunt for the rare Pokémon you want.

New Features

An Updated Black/White Style UI

Enjoy a stylized Battle and graphics UI that resembles the Black/White games! Pokémon Exile features a B/W style Menu with toggleable functions like Following Pokémon, the ArcNav HUD, and many more. Pokémon Exile also features a custom Title Screen and introductory sequence.

Enjoy a custom UI experience in Pokémon Exile.

Following Pokemon

Enjoy the whole experience of Pokémon Exile with your Pokémon right by your side! This Following Pokémon feature allows your Pokémon to gain happiness and even pick up items while exploring the vast Rakosa Region.
(Note: This feature is included in the current release, but is not recommended to use. It can be enabled/disabled freely from the options panel.)

Luka S.J.'s Elite Battle System

Luka S.J.'s Elite Battle System allows for the player to experience battling in a whole new dynamic fashion. All battle sprites are in the Black/White animated style, including Pokémon from the classic Kanto Region to the new Alola Region!

Pokémon Exile's Battle System and Following Pokémon Features.

New 'Wilderness Areas' and 'Secret Hollows' to Explore!

Pokémon Exile also features new locations in game known as Wilderness Areas. These are large maps devoid of any trainers or towns that are under the protection of the Rakosa Ranger Network. These areas are full of rare Pokémon and many places to explore. Another feature within these Wilderness Areas as well as marked routes are secret locations known as 'Secret Hollows'. Secret Hollows combine the mechanics of Hidden Grottoes and Secret Bases in OR/AS. Each Secret Hollow is inhabited by a special Pokémon that the player must battle first before claiming the Hollow as their own. Once the Hollow is claimed, the Player can then convert it into a Secret Base, which they can decorate as they please. (This feature has been implemented, but is not accessible in the current release,)

PaZEYYM.png

Enjoy Exploring and Discovering New Places!

Additional Features Coming Soon:

  • 8 Complete Gyms with Elite four Tournament
  • Player Can Complete Rakosa Ranger Missions
  • More Primal Reversions and Custom Mega Evolutions
  • A Storyline crossover into the Sinnoh region
  • Player will Get to Have Their Own Gym in Sinnoh and Fight To Maintain Their Title as Gym Leader
  • ...Many More Features Coming Soon!

Development Progress Report

Pokémon Exile 1.0 Beta (Remastered) Download (MEGA download)
(Other links coming soon!)

**Disclaimer**
Unfortunately, as mentioned above, I have been going through the arduous process of remaking the game from the ground up with new features, an improved plotline, better graphics and tilesets, new areas to explore, etc. This means that the Beta release is much shorter than the previous un-remastered alpha release. This release includes the first 7 towns and 2 gyms, ending at Sandrune Town after the player's expedition to Sanctuary Island. The playthrough so far is estimated at 8 hours.

Also, now that I am entering my second year of college, progress from here onward on the game may be slower than before. Please be patient, and I will do my best to get the remastered beta version of this game up to the same length as the last alpha release (through Kiava Village). If you would like to try the old and ugly (but longer) previous alpha version, the download link is here. Remember, your save files from the alpha version will not transfer to the new version.

Quirona town has been added with the Poison type gym!

(more screenshots will be added in the header later!)

Also, here's some quick specs on this game's evildoers, mysteriously named "The Paradigm".

"Everyone... Please do not panic. I am not here to cause trouble in this city. I am merely here to save it....
Let me introduce myself. My name is Vergil. You may have seen me and my associates around here. Throughout the past few days, we have been researching, watching, waiting... and today, I have emerged from the depths of obscurity to make a deal with the inhabitants of Lunoir City....
- Vergil, Leader of The Paradigm

Feedback is appreciated!

The story seems interesting, and by the screens the game too.

The characters' sprites still need some work, and I suggest you change the colors Quirona's Gym's tiles. It hurts my eyes and probably I'm won't be the only one injured. :P

Keep up the good work!!

Yeah, thanks for the feedback! I've been working on adding some depth to the floor tiles, (cracks, etc.) in the Quirona City Gym. When I was tiling, I kind of felt like the trash tiles are kind of obnoxious. I think I'll work on some custom tiles. Just curious about two things, though:

1. Do you think I should take out the smog in the Quirona City Gym?
2. What sprites do you think need the most work (I'm obviously not the best the best spriter...)?

1. That's smog? I can't see the gas clouds... But it might not be healthy for people to walk there without gas masks, in a reality point of view. But it gives the Gym a toxic theme and it matches perfectly to the Gym's specialty. You could make the smog darker.

2. Professor Acacia and Zach need some work on their faces. Then you need to give Katherine's hair some shading.

Hey pokécommunity, just an update:
As of today, the game has progressed almost to the alpha 1.0 release. I added some screenshots of the new areas and content for you all to check out above. Here's also a basic sketch of the new map for the southern half of the Rakosa Region:

Another thing, If anyone wants to hop onboard with the project, or maybe just contribute some sprites just message me what you'd like to contribute. Also if anyone wants to maybe do some pre-release bug testing, Just message me if you're interested.

Finally, there's a new Pokémon Exile community support banner:

Just and update:
The new alpha 6 demo is coming in just a little while, so I thought I'd post an update on the game's progress.

The main thread has been updated accordingly, but here are some specifics:

1. Completed Northern and Southern Rakosa map layouts w/ respective cities.

2. Completed Excavation Site minigame:
This minigame is meant to be similar to the Sinnoh Underground, where the player can dig up ancient relics while exploring a randomly generated cave. These relics can be traded in for prizes.

3.Finished approximately 5-6 hours of gameplay with a few small side quests to complete!

Be sure to check out the alpha 6 demo!

Just another update:

I updated the link to make the file a LOT lighter (I took out some of extra the music files). It should be about 157MB now, as opposed to about 1GB. The link above should work for the new file, still v0.6A.

I'm also well into the next update, with several new cities/gyms to come. Here's a brief screenshot of Argentine City, home of the Psychic gym, and one of the biggest cities in Rakosa:
YihStO7.png

Hopefully one or two of you could get me feedback on my game- I'm always looking for some constructive criticism.

'Till the next update,

Well, I gave it a bit of a playthrough, and it had it's ups and downs. Got to the first Pokemon Center and the game crashed on me when trying to battle a trainer in there. I wrote down some observations I had up until that point. It's a bit of a long list, so I put it in spoiler brackets.

Spoiler:

Overall, I think the game has potential. It's a little slow at the start, and there were a few drab parts, it's not that bad for a first attempt. It has many things that I see other games lacking, such as good music. I really liked that. It needs a little bit of work, though. Anyway, I'll give it another go when I feel like fighting my way across Route 1 again. Might be a bit of time.

Anyway, good work. Keep it up!

Yeah, thanks for the feedback! I knew there were several things that should need work that I plan on fixing before the next update. Sorry about the pokecenter crashes that caused some issues. I'll try to get a patch out soon for some of the initial bugs. Anyways, there's a lot more content in the game and it would be great to get feedback on that as well. As for the dialogue/character issues, .. yeah the dialogue seems kinda cheesy in some places and I plan on fixing that. Honestly, the plot accelerates really quickly as you get to Lunoir City, perhaps too much so, as you are introduced to 'The Paradigm' Let me know what you think!

Thanks so much for the response!

Hi! I have just beaten the ghost gym leader, and now I'm trying to continue with the story. Thing is, nobody on my team wants to learn rock smash, even though I checked up which pokemons who learn it (I have a cubone and an ivysaur) I've been running around catching all pokemon I can find in this town to see if they can learn rock smash, but none does. Any suggestions?

Yep, thanks for the alert. When I incorporated the new XY gen Pokémon some of the TM files got overridden. I just created a new patch file for this and some other issues so here's the link to the patch download. All you need to do is take the Audio and Font files from the previous core and put them in this new core:

http://www.mediafire.com/download/j85bwyaakp46dyr/Pok%C3%A9mon_Exile%28v0.6A%29Patch.zip

Or, if you want to go for the heavier download I re-did the core download in the main thread.

Also for those of you who may have had issues with this, There's a little reward near the group of rocks if you were forced to halt your progress. I also changed some other minor things like adding animated autotiles for water.

Again, sorry about that. Have fun with the rest of the game!

Patching instructions are above and the core download will be changed also.
