Mirrors: A Kanto Story
Throughout the year, young trainers from every town and city all over the world embark on their very own journeys in order to achieve their goals. Some find fame, glory, riches or success but most crumble under the immense weight of the tasks they pursue as the world turns out to be far harsher than their fantasies and dreams lead them to believe.
Set forth on your very own journey through the Kanto region like you never have before. Experience the highs of striving for success, tremble before the horrors lurking just below the regions surface and discover your truest selves.

How the RP Works
This is a small, plot-driven RP for 3-4 people (myself included). The story follows a group of beginner trainers who together are setting off on their journeys and is broken up into story arcs that for the most part are dictated by routes and cities.
Each member of the group will have their own goals, and you will be able to explore those goals to their fullest extent. However, this RP is also quite plot intensive and chapters may also have required objectives that need to be completed before we can move on to the next part. The pursuit of each characters ambitions might drive the story at first, but ultimately is the secondary plot.
In Mirrors, unlike most journey RPs, we are playing as a group who already know each other and are more or less travelling together. That means that this will likely be a very JP heavy roleplay. This does not mean that our characters will be with each other at every moment though, you are free to and encouraged to explore locations on your own as well. In fact, it will often make the plot easier to enact if our characters are not always together.
Each area will have a set of predefined Pokemon available that will consist of Pokemon typical of that route in the game as well as extras from other regions. Who are You?
A young Pewter City trainer who, along with their partner Pokemon, is a part of a small group of fledgling trainers about to set off on their very own journey. Although travelling as a group for the most part, you all have your own goals. Unlike the games, these goals do not have to be bound solely to taking on gyms. In fact, its preferred to have some diversity in the group. Whatever goal your character has their eyes on, it will be incorporated as best I can into the RP.

Goal: Lauren is currently planning on challenging the League. However she isnt really sure if thats the direction she wants to go for the rest of her life. Above all else Laurens journey is one of self discovery. She wants to find her place in the world, whether that means she sticks to battling or finds something else she doesnt yet know.
Appearance: Lauren is neither tall nor excessively short standing at roughly 55 inches in height and has a slender, delicate-looking frame. Her skin is free of blemishes and sits directly on the line between being paler or slightly tanned as a result of her constantly changing between in and outdoor hobbies. Laurens blonde hair reaches the middle of her back and has both a hefty fringe and long bangs.
Laurens favourite colours are reds, purples and violets and her wardrobe typically reflects this. She generally wears darker coloured shorts or jeans and a more form fitting shirt in one of her favourite colours. She prefers boots to sneakers and typically accentuates her outfits with leg and arm warmers. Now that she is heading out on her journey, she has added a wide brown pokeball belt with two tassels dangling from the right side.
Personality: In contrast with her clearly defined choice of style, Lauren is something of a blank slate. Shes still trying to find where she fits in the world and as a result has experimented with a wide range of hobbies over the years. She has yet to find something that really sticks with her and tends to feel kind of adrift in the world.
Lauren is typically kind and very open minded, perhaps in part because of her own feelings of being out of place. She is friendly and slightly softly spoken, lacking in confidence in herself. That being said, she doesnt take this to any extreme and is still comfortable enough to approach someone and start up a conversation if she must and is perfectly socially competent. Her confidence issues are less about interaction and the thoughts of others and are more introspective. Shes comfortable with others, its herself shes ill at ease with.
At first glance, people tend to assume Lauren is the sort to be delicate, soft and uncomfortable in the great outdoors. In actuality, despite Laurens appearance and personality flaws, she is just as comfortable trudging through mud as she is in a salon. Similarly, it is often assumed she would have a preference towards the more stereotypically feminine Pokemon, but whilst she has no problem with them, she actually gravitates a lot more towards Ghost, Poison, Dark or Bug-typed Pokemon - the ones that others are likely to find creepy or gross. She sees things in them many others dont and doesnt really get why others can be bothered by them.

She usually keeps her hair styled into two twintails, but even then they still manage to be quite long. The girl also sports deep, amber-brown eyes.
In terms of clothing, Maria generally prefers to wear clothes that are somewhat loose and baggy. This includes tank-tops and t-shirts that are often so long that she tends to wear them as dresses of sorts. Maria offsets these tops by usually wearing a pair of black leggings underneath. In terms of footwear, Maria likes to wear boots, seeing them as a good mix of practical and comfort, especially now that she is setting off on a journey across the Kanto region. She completes her outfits by almost always wearing a durable, purple jacket that is somewhat too large for her, despite her tall frame. She is known to wear this jacket even into the early summer. A shy and extremely timid girl, Maria is somewhat of an oddity, especially considering her rather impressive stature. She is one who always tries to think things through, wanting to make sure that she picks an option that would have the least negative impact to herself and those around her. Because of this, Maria can be a bit indecisive at times which often leads to the girl wanting others to try and make a choice for her. Maria is a girl who's ultimate issue is that she lacks confidence in herself. She is quick to blame herself should something go wrong and at times finds herself wondering if she is a mere hindrance to her friends should they experience something going wrong as well.

The girl is aware of her shortcomings, and does indeed hope that she might be able to scrounge up some confidence in herself and perhaps even become more assertive, even if it is just a tiny amount. Being an avid drawer, a hobby that she uses to cope and try to calm down with when she becomes quite anxious, Maria wouldn't mind refining her artist skills while out on the road as well.

Goal: "I wanna see everything! No, not just see...experience everything! This world is way too big, and too cool to just be stuck in one tiny part of it!"
Appearance: At 56, she is a decent height for a female. Since she has such trouble standing still, and occasionally forgets to slow down and eat, she is slightly thinner than average. Tabby doesnt have one set fashion style; she can wear a casual jeans/jacket/t-shirt outfit one day and a flashy skirt/top outfit the next, it all depends on how she feels that day. Similarly she travels with a decent amount of hair chalk, and colors a strand or two of her hair in a different color each day.
Personality:
Tabby rotates between two battling styles: The first being to frustrate her opponents. Examples include using the thunderwave/airslash combination, volt switching between two electric types so they take twice as long to defeat, or locking a Pokemon into an ineffective move with encore (IE Earthquake on a flying type). The second is to be completely, utterly reckless. For example: using self-destruct/explosion when the chips are down. These strategies might not be the best, but according to Tabby, they are the most fun, and thats the point. Whats the point in winning if its all you ever think about? Lifes too short to have only one goal, and its the journey that matters, not the destination.
Speaking of the journey, there is no place Tabby wont go, and shell love every second of it. From the deepest cave to the tallest shopping mall, if you need a friend for the journey, Tabby will gladly be that friendeven if shes never met you. People make the Pokemon journey all the more exciting, she believes, thus she loves meeting and interacting with as many as possible.
Whether you find it charming or obnoxious, Tabby is incredibly hyperactive. She does not do well staying in one place for too long, and if she has the chance, she will choose the most difficult of the paths available to her. Fly back to the city? No way! Lets cross the desert! Who knows what well find out there!
This could make her a bit difficult to handle for the traveling partners she is determined to find.

Confident -- Tabby believes she can accomplish anything, with enough persistence and energy.
Friendly -- Everyone is a friend until proven otherwise.
Brave/risk taker-- A dangerous situation will not stop Tabitha, in fact, she'll seek them out.
Weaknesses:
Reckless -- Tabby spends the majority of her life rushing into situations without giving any thought to the danger said situation might present.
Hyperactive -- Like the Energizer Bunny, she just keeps going, and going, and going... Often choosing to skip meals or sleep in order to continue on her journey.
Naive: Tabitha's friendly attitude makes her all too easy to take advantage of.

Personality: Relatively quiet and thoughtful, Jason tends to sit back and watch as his friends' antics while giving some side comment, but cares a lot for them and is very kind, even if he can come off as aloof or intimidating. While good at keeping an eye on details, he has a bit of trouble with reading other people's feelings and has a hard time expressing himself through words, but his actions can carry that. Can go from pretty mature to somewhat childish at times, and has a love for candy and music.
In battle, he leaves that passivity aside and goes directly to attack, not leaving a moment to breathe.

Goals: In a pursuit of the body and the mind, Tai wants to grow stronger. Challenging the Pokemon League seems to be an excellent route from both perspectives. After idolizing Prof. Oak his whole childhood, however, he dreams of becoming the next great Pokemon professor.

Appearance: Standing around 5'7 with a less than athletic build, Tai isn't quite as tall as one would think after the intial teenage growth spurt. Sporting an espresso-like finish, his hair can always be found in some sort of mess. Not to be confused with a lack of hygeine, he believes it makes him to appear more studious. His bangs tend to hang a bit longer than the majority of the bulk. While the sides barely drape over the tips of his ears, the forefront of the beast often falls right over the beginning arch of his nose. When entranced in his studies, Tai can often be seen arching out his bottom lip in order to blow it back out of the way. His jet-black, metal framed glasses overlap his hazel eyes.
Even on the hottest summer days, you will never find Tai wearing anything other than an all black get-up. Cycling between t-shirts and the standard sweater to accommodate for the weather, he'll always complete the outfit with jeans and his favorite pair of slip-on shoes(all black of course). In his own weird way, the color choice is his idea of honoring his father. A black-belt renowned across Kanto.
Personality: Formerly of Saffron City, moving to Pewter City when he was 13. Tai grew up amidst many disciplined, respected martial artists. Despite this, you would rarely see him behave in a serious manner unless you found him coddled up in his studies, entranced in an almost meditative state of focus. Although he maintains a certain level of modesty, Tai's a jokester through and through. This can put him at a 'love him or hate him' position with strangers.
His endless quest for knowledge does have a tendency to back fire at times. Stumbling upon something new can set him off on a tirade of examination. Over analyzing in dire situations can cause him to stumble over himself. However, he sees all of this as the necessary next step to reach the next level.
Underneath his care-free surface, a lack of confidence does dwell in Tai. Always setting the bar as high as he can, when he doesn't quite reach his expectations he can tend to crash and burn. Leaving him in a more depressive state than usual. Left to reflect on how to improve, he'll snap back into his smiling old self.
In battle Tai loves to employ hit and run tactics. Any Pokemon fulfilling this role pique's his interest. Ordering his Pokemon to dance around the battlefield before striking is fitting to his personality, in his mind.

Kimberly Crawford , 18
Kimberly is smart, calculating, and sophisticated. She takes herself and Pokemon battling very seriously. She prefers to plan everything out ahead of time and usually visualizes multiple options for any given situation. It's rare to find a situation where she can't figure out at least one solution. She hates spontaneity and believes being unprepared for something that isn't a surprise is completely unprofessional. While she certainly is smart, she overthinks everything and is constantly "on," so she zones out a lot and keeps her words to herself until she's figured something out. Sometimes her solutions are a little complicated, but sometimes they're pure genius. She prefers structure and order over chaos and mischief, so she is frequently labelled as a "buzzkill" or "fun wrecker." Most of the time, though, she's so quiet and in her own head that she can ignore it.
She prides herself on an extensive knowledge of the Pokemon world and Pokemon zoology. Though she doesn't know everything, she can usually pull off information about a Pokemon psychology off the top of her head and can adequately research anything she doesn't know. When talking about Pokemon zoology, she lights up and shows a lot more excitement than one would expect from her. She selects her Pokemon not based on emotional attachment but convenience and prowess. She favors Psychic-types heavily because they're calm and reliable (they can also help her plan things, which she loves). She detests Dark- and Ghost-types because they are unruly and bashful, two personality traits she doesn't.
The main downside to Kimberly's personality is her inability to read social situations and her lack of social skills, juxtaposing her interest in Pokemon behavior and psychology. Getting accidentally ignored or shunned by her is a frequent occurrence even if she doesn't intend to do so. She's constantly in her head and tends to ignore her surroundings (yes, she has tripped or fallen over things while walking and thinking simultaneously). She thinks more about the practical and the logical than she does about the emotional and compassionate, and such isn't good at handling tough emotional situations. Similarly, she typically doesn't express her emotions well and can easily come off as cold and distant even if that's not what she intends. Faux pas are commonplace.
Kimberly is also a clean freak and doesn't like being dirty or germy. You can usually find her applying lotions, moisturizers, sanitizers, and other skin gels on a constant basis to keep herself feeling clean. While this is an annoying (and expensive) habit, she usually smells like a field of flowers, which no one can be mad about. She'll also busy herself with tidying up and cleaning regardless of the necessity. She uses this time to - you guessed it - think and plan about her current situation. This does mean that she's incredibly organized and if you need an item from her, she knows exactly where she has it.
An upside to her constant planning is that she's always listening when someone explains something so that she can utilize all the information she has. A downside is that she will ask a lot of questions to figure out something she doesn't understand. However, she is able to connect past information with new information and can produce surprising results with the two. She is constantly writing down notes and goes through pencils like an athlete goes through water bottles. Despite her intelligence, Kimberly doesn't speak in complicated phrases or wordy sentences. She finds it more expedient to keep her speech short and to the point.
Kimberly is an intern at a Pokemon research institution. She's been tasked with researching the connection between humans and Pokemon to see how human interaction changes Pokemon behavior and mentality. She had huge glasses in front of her deep brown eyes. She typically avoids wearing makeup outside of some mascara and lipstick.
Ivy was the Pokemon given to Kimberly to aid her during her research. Possessing strong telekinetic Psychic powers, Ivy is able to telepathically communicate with Kimberly and read her thoughts. She acts as a computer for Kimberly, running calculations and simulations that she physically can't to aid her in forming solutions. Ivy is also able to record video information using her eyes. In spite of Kimberly's serious nature, Ivy is quite bashful and loves to play around, much to Kimberly's discontent. Ivy gets along well with other Pokemon and Trainers, mostly because she reads their thoughts and uses that to her own advantage. She doesn't get along too well with Kimberly but ultimately works towards her benefit.

Grey was caught outside Mt. Moon after Kimberly was returning from researching Trainers in and around Pewter. They stood out to her because of the infrequency in which Bronzor typically appear in the area. She also took notice of how incredibly calm and serious they were and decided that she needed a Pokemon to offset Ivy's playfulness. Grey is incredibly stone-faced (or... metal-faced) and rarely expresses emotion. Their Psychic powers are not as strong as Ivy's but are still good enough in battle. The two work well together as Ivy can communicate to Grey and sync their thought processes, which allows Kimberly to command them easier.

Personality
Kimberly is smart, calculating, and sophisticated. She takes herself and Pokemon battling very seriously. She prefers to plan everything out ahead of time and usually visualizes multiple options for any given situation. It's rare to find a situation where she can't figure out at least one solution. She hates spontaneity and believes being unprepared for something that isn't a surprise is completely unprofessional. While she certainly is smart, she overthinks everything and is constantly "on," so she zones out a lot and keeps her words to herself until she's figured something out. Sometimes her solutions are a little complicated, but sometimes they're pure genius. She prefers structure and order over chaos and mischief, so she is frequently labelled as a "buzzkill" or "fun wrecker." Most of the time, though, she's so quiet and in her own head that she can ignore it.
She prides herself on an extensive knowledge of the Pokemon world and Pokemon zoology. Though she doesn't know everything, she can usually pull off information about a Pokemon psychology off the top of her head and can adequately research anything she doesn't know. When talking about Pokemon zoology, she lights up and shows a lot more excitement than one would expect from her. She selects her Pokemon not based on emotional attachment but convenience and prowess. She favors Psychic-types heavily because they're calm and reliable (they can also help her plan things, which she loves). She detests Dark- and Ghost-types because they are unruly and bashful, two personality traits she doesn't.
The main downside to Kimberly's personality is her inability to read social situations and her lack of social skills, juxtaposing her interest in Pokemon behavior and psychology. Getting accidentally ignored or shunned by her is a frequent occurrence even if she doesn't intend to do so. She's constantly in her head and tends to ignore her surroundings (yes, she has tripped or fallen over things while walking and thinking simultaneously). She thinks more about the practical and the logical than she does about the emotional and compassionate, and such isn't good at handling tough emotional situations. Similarly, she typically doesn't express her emotions well and can easily come off as cold and distant even if that's not what she intends. Faux pas are commonplace.

Kimberly is also a clean freak and doesn't like being dirty or germy. You can usually find her applying lotions, moisturizers, sanitizers, and other skin gels on a constant basis to keep herself feeling clean. While this is an annoying (and expensive) habit, she usually smells like a field of flowers, which no one can be mad about. She'll also busy herself with tidying up and cleaning regardless of the necessity. She uses this time to - you guessed it - think and plan about her current situation. This does mean that she's incredibly organized and if you need an item from her, she knows exactly where she has it.
An upside to her constant planning is that she's always listening when someone explains something so that she can utilize all the information she has. A downside is that she will ask a lot of questions to figure out something she doesn't understand. However, she is able to connect past information with new information and can produce surprising results with the two. She is constantly writing down notes and goes through pencils like an athlete goes through water bottles. Despite her intelligence, Kimberly doesn't speak in complicated phrases or wordy sentences. She finds it more expedient to keep her speech short and to the point.
