I'm back and ready to fire up an old game concept of mine, but in the past it didn't garner much interest, so I'm hoping this time is different. This is a Pokemon adventure roleplay, but also a plot driven game as the players will be dragged into a percolating conflict with a rapidly growing evil across Kanto and the world.

History

Over two centuries ago, the world of Pokemon suffered a cataclysmic event, throwing nations and Pokemon into all out war. Pokemon of legend took to the forefront, taking sides and directing the battle to either instill peace or incite destruction. Continents shifted, land sunk and mountains rose. The birth of a new era would begin, but the bitterness of endless losses of all sorts ushered in a prolonged depression. The Pokemon of legend disappeared without a trace, leaving a sundered planet for people and Pokemon to rebuild. Still, many clung to hope, and constructed new civilizations upon the ruins of the old.

Kanto in particular broke off into 5 separate continents and 6 sovereign nations and faced continuous warfare as the Eastern Powers, governed by Fuschjal and assisted by Avenedmest and Lunalnan clashed with the Western Allies, led by Indigalos and aided by Varidia and Singabbar for possession of the Kanto region, blaming each other for a divided, impoverished Kanto. The West won out, but not without great losses on both ends. A war dubbed the Third Greater Kanto War, or 3GK would meet its end 75 years ago.

Now, Kanto has bloomed, with Indigalos as an economic and military powerhouse in the west, Varidia and Singabbar engaging in peaceful trade with their neighbors, and the gears of progress humming in the eastern nations, not far behind their more advanced western neighbors. However, trouble still brews, as Johto immigrants flock in droves to Indigalos due to Johto's political and economic instability and dark political forces stir back east, causing governments to convene and militaries to mobilize, albeit cautiously. As generations before have lamented, it's up to today's generation to resolve the growing issues of tomorrow.

Now

Pokemon ownership has been revolutionized from centuries past as a result of the catastrophic wars of the past and the cautious natures of the governments that regulate it. Still, trainers of today are as eager as ever to begin a career with Pokemon! At the age of 16, high school graduates (most kids complete school at the age of 15 or 16 now) begin career paths towards their dreams with Pokemon, having obtained junior licenses for Pokemon training. Junior trainers, as they're called, are placed in authorized teams by the league where they travel together, adding both safety and camaraderie to young trainers until they obtain full licensing and can travel independently.

Trainers may now carry up to 9 Pokemon at a time, but battle limits still cap out at 6. Pokemon can now learn up to 6 moves, and move-sets have evolved along with the Pokemon (HM moves exist, but you don't need them to get anyway unlike the games), including new type configurations for Pokemon and the ability to have two abilities! Research on dream abilities (once known as hidden abilities) has expanded as well, including methods to obtain them more readily via special breeding methods and various technologies. There has even been the discovery of a new Pokemon type, the illuminating light-type!

Still, the politics of Kanto are as uncertain as ever. Militaries are on the move and politicians debate their next move. The next league season is about to begin, and as such, league overseers are anxious over recent events. Rumors of highly organized crime stir and conspiracy theories arise, but governments are helpless to confront the threat until they know about recent events. Worse yet, many suspect this next league season may prompt further activity from those in the shadows.

Plot

As new trainers, you've decided to set out on a journey across Kanto's nations to reach your goals, taking boat or plane to Cinnabar City to formally register for the Kanto League (formerly the Indigo League) at the world renowned Oak Institute for Advanced Pokemon Sciences (OIAPS), register or obtain your first Pokemon, meet the famed Professor Sarah Oak, and set out on a journey with a team of other junior trainers assigned to them by the league. Some of you may seek gym badges, while some will pursue contest ribbons, sport medals, or seek a more professional or recreational path with Pokemon.

However, company has become more necessary as of late due to emerging nefarious activities across Kanto. Ambitious youth aren't so deterred by danger, but in fact welcome the adventure. Even so, the journey will be arduous, and the next generation of trainers might just get caught up in the looming darkness to come! The journey of these new trainers might just evolve into a battle for the preservation of peace between Kanto's nations.

Trainers must be prepared to plot out their future course with Pokemon, and the type of license they'll obtain upon completing their journey hinges on what path they wish to take. Keep in mind that these aren't set in stone. Just as people change their careers in real life, so can your character! You may even sign up without a selected occupation and decide your future further on.

Kanto

Kanto has changed a lot from a few centuries ago. The map was done in Paint so the quality isn't too great. If you need help identifying something, let me know and I'll clarify it for you. You'll need this map to identify where your character is from in your application. If you plan to be from outside of Kanto, you'll need to check with me first, as the rest of the Pokemon world has changed drastically as well.

Take care as to where your character will be from. Metropolitan areas or areas near many big towns have more diverse backgrounds as opposed to more rural areas where most people's parents are involved in only a select few industries because that's all that's in that area. However, rural areas, since they'll be harder to create well are more likely to increase your initial point score! Most importantly though, you should pick an area and country that interests you most!

You can get a glimpse of what each country is like as well as its various ratings on a 1-5 scale, with 5 being the greatest. Power indicates the total, doubled for economy, land and military ratings, and added for the other ratings that determine the nation's influence with its neighbors. Rights provide no contribution to power, but do impact how able civilians are to live life as they choose.

Guidelines

The expectations are very simple:

1) All standard RP rules.

2) NPCs are controlled by the game master, excluding of course ones related solely to the player, such as relatives and their own Pokemon, as well as wild Pokemon has engaged you in battle.

3) Godmodding/meta-gaming is a no-no.

4) Pokemon capturing is determined by me, so keep your ball shaking. I also determine Pokemon encounters, so if you're hoping to capture a Pokemon in that habitat, make a request! I'm likely to give you an opportunity to find it, as well as a little surprise if you're lucky!

5) I determine what moves your Pokemon will know and which ones they learn. I keep track of this and I'll let you know when it learns a new move! Again, request any moves you want your Pokemon to learn so that I can design a proper move-set for it.

6) This is a plot-based, but otherwise sandbox RP. You can do whatever you want within reason, but throughout the RP, events will occur and it'll be up to you and your team to resolve the conflict!

7) Story elements are driven by episodes, where I detail what's to be done. After everyone has begun to participate, I'll allow others to move on, so don't get too far behind!

8) Keep out mature content. Light romance and moderate violence is permitted. Don't write something you wouldn't do in public!

9) Remain active! If posting every 1-3 days becomes an issue or you need to withdraw, let me know so I can properly accommodate your absence.

10) Make your posts interesting with proper English and add details. No really short posts, however I won't place a minimum length.

11) Battles/competitions are either determined by me, or determined between two players who inform me they've determined the victor. I don't necessarily need to know who wins so long as I know the outcome is mutually agreed upon.

12) Concerns about if you can do something in the RP? Just ask! Chances are it wont be a problem.

13) No reservations necessary! While you do need to select limited nation positions, there are no set player limits. If I feel we have enough participants, I'll close sign-ups. You can still state that you'll be signing up, but I don't want to limit choice too harshly. Nation spots are not set in stone, so the strongest applications will have a good chance to get the spots that they want.

14) Ensure that you check with me to obtain information on your intended hometown. This will help you develop a character most appropriate for the place you're from.

15) Have fun and enjoy the game!

Those accepted or reserved will be listed here. Each player will be assigned to a team that I choose, although once the teams are well fleshed out, future applicants may request placement in a team of their choice. Teams will be categorized based on character applications and what nation they're from, as well as occupations if any. Each team travels with its members and separate from other teams. However, teams may interact throughout the RP, and rivalries are sure to form!

Now you're ready to sign up! However, before you fill out the application, state your desired nation and hometown so I can list you and give you information on your hometown so you can create an interesting background. Once you receive this information, you may fill out your sign-up.

Alright! Looks like my roleplay is finally up! I guess it'll start it off and put up my character as a form of reference. I'll also use this post later to store game data for players to see once the roleplay starts.

Appearance

Xoxaa maintains an athletic build, thanks to her lifestyle of athletic activities and manual labor when she worked on her mother's breeding pastures. She has some visible muscle, most prominently seen in her arms and her legs. The girl also maintains a developing, womanly figure, with an hourglass figure often cloaked by her modest attire, including her sizable bust and rear, giving her an attractive, youthful appearance. Her eyes are a gleaming blue to complement her well balanced, cute face, in addition to her bright, wavy strawberry blonde hair that she either lets hang down or ties up on occasion, usually with ribbons. Her skin tone is also somewhat tanned, but the often cloudy, high altitude town she's from has kept her skin fairly bright. Xoxaa stands at a slightly below average height of 5' 5".

Despite her feminine assets, Xoxaa tends to dress modestly with t-shirts and sweaters, almost never seen with any low cut clothing unless she absolutely has to, such as for swimming, although she doesn't always apply the same standard for her legs, wearing short skirts and shorts, sometimes with leggings or long socks underneath to keep her extra warm, but still wears pants now and then, usually in colder weather. Her feet are always well dressed for travel, often wearing tennis shoes or hiking boots, usually colorful and fashionable to look both stylish and perfectly suited for outdoor activity and travel. Colder weather may prompt her to adorn her white winter coat with a dratini on the coat's backside, gloves, and her snowcap to keep her head warm in winter. Her clothing is relatively in style, but her modest dress code may make her appear more old fashioned than her peers. Still, Xoxaa's clothes often follow a theme of bright, vibrant colors, often with Pokemon designs of her favorite Pokemon, such as dragonair, milotic, and charmander.

Personality

Despite her change in popularity in her teenage years, Xoxaa is still the introverted, shy girl that she's always been. She keeps mostly to herself and doesn't often socialize with others unless she's prompted to by the outside. Even her hobbies and interests are things she is very reserved about, with the exception of the obvious, Pokemon. When she does interact with others she's unacquainted with, she tends to struggle, stuttering and mincing her words and often embarrassing herself. Compliments are especially difficult for her, as she blushes easily and often tries to hide her expressions as she doesn't like to express her feelings in public. There can be exceptions to this, however, as Xoxaa holds very strong opinions and wont hesitate to defend her position. When she connects with people, she proves to be a loyal and understanding friend, and is very strong willed, sticking to her goals and convictions. Her most disturbing quality tends to be her anger, which can often be a result of frustration or a violation of her convictions. This has potential to result in shaky relations with others, as she has a tendency to be insensitive to others when her values are at stake.

Background

Born to the gym leader of Volcandrok, one would expect an affluent lifestyle for the daughter of a well known figure. However, she grew up with a single parent, her mother, who ran her own breeding facility, and the life of a self-employed entrepreneur in the small town of Volcandrok was certainly rough. Since her father left the family shortly after her birth, Xoxaa had no relation with the man. Growing up, Xoxaa grew up learning about Pokemon and the essentials of Pokemon health and happiness, although she struggled to connect with the mysterious creatures and developed a minor phobia of them as a kid. School was also rough for her, as her quirky demeanor and discount attire made her an outsider to many of her peers. Due to her exclusion from activities and her natural shyness, her childhood was mostly solitary. Instead, she spent most of her time assisting her mother's small business, helping to take care of the Pokemon among other tasks associated with the business, keeping her fit and active as well due to the constant physical labor involved.

Approaching her teenage years, Xoxaa's life underwent a lot of change. Cinnabar's former gym leader was ousted due to scandals he was involved in and left a vacancy for the league's gym leader seat in Singabbar. This began a fierce contest over the gym leadership that became an international story. Xoxaa's mother had submitted her candidacy for gym leadership, and became a top contender. The candidacy became a battle between Xoxaa's mother, the underdog supported by Singabbar's island and rural towns against the heavily favored candidate in urban centers and the league, a national celebrity and the son of one of the Elite Four. In a huge upset, Xoxaa's mother clenches victory despite having retired from competitive battling ago, which also forced the league to relocate the gym stadium from Cinnabar to Volcandrok. While still running her breeding business, Xoxaa's mother also became a gym leader, expanding both of their responsibilities, but also acting as a catalyst in Xoxaa's life.

Xoxaa began to get involved in local sports teams, and her grades began to improve in school. Her mother also saw a drastic income increase due to becoming a gym leader, allowing her daughter access to more fashionable clothing. In addition, developing into an attractive young woman garnered her more popularity among her peers, as well as now being the daughter of a gym leader as opposed to a local Pokemon breeder. Still, she remained suspicious of her peers due to her treatment in the past, and became far more enthusiastic about Pokemon since reaching adolescence. Her focus shifted heavily to studying the world of Pokemon and continuing to work on her mother's breeding business. It wouldn't be long after that when she would finish her education, apply for a trainer's license with the Kanto League, and head out to Cinnabar to formally register for the league and begin her adventure as a rookie trainer. As a parting gift, Xoxaa received an egg from her mother, a soon to hatch egg that would hold the girl's first Pokemon friend to accompany her on her journey throughout Kanto.

Background

Hatched from the egg given to Xoxaa by her mother, Wyok is the offspring of Pokemon trained by his trainer's mother. The young dragon Pokemon emerged from his egg shortly after Xoxaa departed from her hometown to land in Cinnabar. Unfortunately, Wyok was born ill, and Xoxaa has struggled to keep him comfortable and healthy, and thus has its trainer deeply concerned for his well being. Her most immediate concern is to deliver him to a Pokemon center to hopefully find a diagnosis for her Pokemon's sickness and to help cure him from illness.

Sure thing! I'll give you more detailed information once I get a chance, but Lavender Town is now Lavender City and the country's largest metropolitan area. As such, it has a very diverse population with both a downtown/inner city population as well as a rapidly expanding suburban outskirts area.

As for everyone else who may be interested, the way I have the sign-up process designed works better if I allow reservations, so I will. As such, I'll be loosening restrictions on nation capacity and color code reservations, so if there's a nation you REALLY want to be from, you may sign up for it. Great sign-ups will be accepted regardless, but do try to keep the nation balance in place and I still would like you to be from different towns unless you're signing up together with someone else!

I'd like to reserve... probably would be in Chrome City(?) (I dunno, probably has to do with my browser...), since Fuschjal seems like it would be fun to play around with.

Yeah, so I might come up with an SU in a few days. Just that I have to balance with my school projects and another RP first.

That will be fine. I may move other Fuschjal sign-ups ahead of yours if you haven't gotten around to working on your sign-up, but your position is still reserved so you've nothing to worry about. :)

As for your city, Chrome is a major metropolitan area with major harbors like Lavender where it interacts with trade from other nations routinely. It's well known for being a major technology hub, and the hi-tech capital of Fuschjal. It is also very diverse, home of Fuschjal's major tech and entertainment industries as well as several other high profile, international businesses. People from the Chrome metropolitan area are typically the most educated of Fuschjans. Chrome is a very spread out city, with vast suburban populations surrounding it. However, Chrome is also known for its gaming casinos among other dubious enterprises with a long history dating back to the chaotic history prior to the great third war in Fuschjal.

I'll go over Lavender while I'm at it as well:

Lavender had evolved over its long history from a quiet town nestled in the foothills of eastern Kanto's mountains. Now a sprawling metropolis, it is the political capital of Avenedmest and home of many associated businesses and organizations, and is the most populous region in Avenedmest. It is also the most affluent and well educated population and offers many opportunities for those living in the area. The city has a history associated with respecting and honoring the fallen, including Pokemon, and as such, much of the social and cultural life of Lavender exemplifies this long held tradition, even as the town has drastically urbanized.

Well, the Gold/Silver series sort of retconned that into a radio tower. I moved that stuff to the northeast metro area of Avenedmest, while there still is a memorial tower in Lavender, but it's way over capacity so they only allow more grave sites within the tower when they expand it, and those sites are often very expensive and sell quick. For the most part, Lavender has expanded so much that its memorial sites are moved elsewhere, and Lavender has become more of a ceremonial area rather than the home for memorial sites. The tower has become more of a landmark and a museum than anything at this point.

There are also many other memorial sites of different types, particularly in Urnegrad which is popular for its many graveyard parks, mausoleums, etc.
