So I had an ultimate run going in the last thread but my pc with all my saves on it bricked. Time to start a new one! Now on a laptop that's just about as powerful as a toaster I actually have to dust off my old physical copies for most of these.

Hey, do Let's GO games count since, although they have different mechanics, they are still yellow remakes? If not, that's ok I guess

Both me and Spirit Shackle see LGPE as spin-offs, but in the end it's up to the every challenge's owner to decide what is best for their challenge (as with every game). Like I can see doing Monotype on LGPE, but not Nuzlocke. I should probably do some kind of announcement, but who'll actually read it?

I suppose you're right. As far as I'm concerned, I'm allowing it in Time Warp but something like Nuzlocke would be hard to do. The only way I could picture Nuzlocke working would be just stepping on a patch of grass, closing my eyes and counting the first pokemon to touch me as the team member. But I guess it's too tedious.

Hey there, I'm going to be continuing my monotype challenges from a few years ago! As of this thread (link) I had completed all types (except fairy, obviously) through Gen V.

My first continuation will be on Pokemon Y with Poison type.

              Alright, here goes!

Update on Ultimate Poison Monotype Challenge:

              Update #1 on Y.

              Name: Toxi
              Starter: Chespin
              • After getting my starter, I caught Buzz the Weedle in Santalune Forest who will mainly be used for the first gym.
              • She was a pain to train up with only Poison Sting to start, but I eventually got her to evolve into Kakuna and then Beedrill.
              • Had to do a bit of grinding to get Buzz to L13 for Focus Energy, then it was time to challenge Viola.
              • Focus Energy really came in handy, helping Fury Attack to crit a lot of attacks to win me the badge.
              • Finally able to get to Route 4, I caught Thorn the Budew.
              • Started training him up on Route 4 and eventually got to Lumiose City, where I talked to the Professor about Mega Evolution.
              • Went through Route 5 and Camphrier Town to visit Parfum Palace.
              • After going through 4 Soothing Bags, Thorn evolved into Roselia!
              • Caught the sleeping Snorlax, then moved through the rest of Route 7 and defeated Trevor and Tierno alongside Calem.
              • Caught Phibia the Croagunk in the grass outside Connecting Cave, and then Countess the Zubat inside Connecting Cave.
              • Went through Route 8 to Ambrette Town and then rode the Rhyhorn to Glittering Cave.
              • Defeated Team Flare and found the Scientist, who gave me the Jaw Fossil.
              • Made my way to Cyllage City, where I got the Bike, and along the way, Countess evolved into Golbat!
              • After a bit more training, we took on the gym.
              • Grant wasn't too difficult. Amara needed a team effort to defeat, but Thorn OHKO'd Tyrunt with Giga Drain to win.
              • I am now saved on Route 10.
              Screens:
              Spoiler:

Oh man this brings back memories. i was a psychic champ in gen 5 and a bug champ in gen 6. last i recall i was in the middle of a fire ultimate but i've since given up on that. what can i say, grinding monferno and ponyta to the mid 30s just to beat fantina was NOT fun.

but hell yeah i'll give it another shot. which type to go for though. there's intresting ones like Dragon and Steel, ones with plenty of options like water or grass, or with tricky strategies like Poison. its difficult to know.

yknow what, since it contains some of my favourite pokemon. Lets Shake things up!

Alright, about time I actually did a challenge run again.

Forum User Name : Spirit Shackle
                  Game : Renegade Platinum
                  Pokémon Type : Ice
                  Mode : Single

Ren Plat is the newest of Dray's enhancement hacks, as it serves as a "493" hack (as in, makes 493 Pokemon available within the game without trading/events) of Platinum with a few other changes.

Most notably for this run, the game hands you an Eevee and an Ice Stone prior to gym 1, meaning I have access to an Ice-type prior to the first gym, and Route 116 is accessible prior to Gardenia, meaning I will have a full team by gym 2. Downside: I have to solo a Rock-type gym of 6 Pokemon with a Glaceon. Worst case scenario, uh, I get Earth Power at 37?

                  This could be a mistake.

                    Alright my first update

Macho Shakes it up in Kanto! Part 1

                    Spoiler:

So i started red, named myself Macho, picked bulbasaur. used bulbasaur for about 5 seconds getting oak's parcel and catching my first team member Barney the NidoranM next to viridian. Barney stomped his way through the forest and the gym trainer, brock was a bit too tough rn though so grinding time! after getting Barney to level 18 and evolving at 16. i felt i was ready.

                    VS Brock
So after numerous failed attempts realising that gen 1 mechanics suck (kept randomly missing forever, brock had infinite full heals and used them every time his pokemon got poisoned without taking up a turn. because logic) i decided to say screw the poison and horn attack them to death, had a near miss with onix using Bide late on but Barney lived with 2HP and horn attacked the rock snake down.

After barney crushed everyone on the next route because overlevelled lol, i got Rocky the geodude in Mt Moon. Rocky trained against the zubats to a decent level then advanced through and took out the rocket grunts and the nerd at the end, took the helix fossil i'll never use and got to cerulean, Rocky stomped Blue with a bit of help then i helped out bill, got my SS ticket and challenged the gym, barney cleaned house.

                    VS Misty
Barney took out staryu with a crit horn attack then after a crit on starmie, 2 more horn attacks took it out, ate a couple of attacks in the process but was otherwise fine.
Side Note: in my first attempt starmie critted and killed barney leaving Rocky to get one shotted by it and blackout lol.

AFTER the gym i used my moon stone to evolve Barney into big daddy NidoKing.

                    Team:
                    Spoiler:

Oof. I guess it's meant to be a challenge, eh?

That being said I am totally excited to play that game too...though I'm gonna have to wait until I have time for it, hah.

Macho Shakes it up in Kanto! Part 2

                        Spoiler:

After easily getting to vermillion i went to the SS anne, overlevelled graveler and nidoking took out most things. got cut, caught a random oddish cutslave. (i suppose i couldve been thematically correct and caught diglett but bleh) went into diglett's cave to find a diglett, first encounter. lv29 Dugtrio. Yoink!

                        VS Lt Surge
Pathetic, he couldnt do diddly to Rocky who just tanked everything and rock throwed everything to death. couldve brought in Ed Boyz with dig if i really needed to but i didnt.

Taught thunderbolt to Barney and went on through the rock tunnel catching Snek the Onix who got trained a bit outside on the spearow. bind is OP in gen 1, not as OP as wrap but up there. he did most of the work through the tunnel, got to celadon and went to the gym. Snek did most of the work with bind Barney stepped in later. blessing that Poison resists grass despite the secondary ground typing. but he wasnt strong enough to OHKO everything with horn attack and sleep powder was EVERYWHERE

                        VS Erika
Tougher but manageable.Barney hit hard, got sleeped then got razor leafed to death, enter Rocky to dodge a sleep powder and hit rock throw, then get razor leafed. Ed Boyz finished with dig, Snek came in on tangela screeching it, taking like 3 damage from a wrap and binding it to death. Ed boyz hit a dig on vileplume, took a mega drain, then hit a dig critical hit to finish it off.

Side Note: Ground is SE on poison despite the grass typing, gen 1 mechanics are a blessing and a curse.

Macho Shakes it up in Kanto! Part 3

                          Spoiler:

Clearing out the rocket base in celadon was easy, an abundance of poison types is easy pickings for a ground team. Giovanni's kangaskhan was a bit tougher but nothing i couldnt handle. got the silph scope and returned to the pokemon tower. caught Wakko the Cubone and levelled him a bit while rescuing mr fuji, got the pokeflute and went both routes to fuschia for training rocky evolving in the process (thanks universal randomizer). went back to saffron with my new Rhyhorn Thicc and trained him against the grunts in silph co.
Giovanni rematch was tougher but i handled it. Barney took out everything with a combination of surf and thunderbolt. cleared out the fighting dojo with Ed Boyz. took on the gym. dashed through and fought sabrina.

                          VS Sabrina:
Difficult indeed. kadabra one shot Barney Ed Boyz took it out with dig, Rocky came in to fight off Mr Mime with earthquake and took out venomoth with rock throw too. leaving alakazam to finish it off. Ed Boyz came back in, hit a dig, he reflected, dug again while he recovered, he took it and psychiced me down to low health, recovered again as i dug. a critical hit finished the fight.

Macho Shakes it up in Kanto! The Finale!

                            Spoiler:

So after returning to fuschia i took on Koga with my team sufficiently levelled. the gym was tough because of the abundance of hypno (you have a TON of poison types, and you choose hypno? sure gym, sure) but i got to Koga

                            VS Koga
Ed Boyz swept by himself, one shot koffing, one shot next koffing crit Muk, hit weezing hard, get toxiced, dig down again, and up for the KO.

took random spearow out of box taught fly and went back to pallet because if you think i'm doing that long ass water route and seafoam islands with a ground team you're kidding yourself. took the much shorter route down to cinnabar, cleaned out the mansion, took on the gym trainers easily by this point Rhyhorn had evolved.

                            VS Blaine
This was another win for Ed Boyz, after Thicc took out the growlithe and ponyta, Ed Boyz came in and critted arcanine and rapidash for the double KO.

back to viridian, beat the gym trainers easily.

                            VS Giovanni
Ed Boyz going for the triple, and with multiple crit digs and tanking weak hits and dodging status moves all the while he did it soundly. Dig, dig and more Dig. bye nidoking, by ryhorn, bye enemy dugtrio, bye nidoqueen and goodbye Rhydon with a dig, a tail whip and a dig critical hit.

On to victory road. one last rival battle in the meantime was no problem. Barney took out most of his team with Snek picking up the KO on charizard. Victory road was no cakewalk but nothing too bad. on the other side my levels were far too low, so i did a little grinding, got everyone to 45-47 and went on with a bag full of full restores and revives.

                            VS Lorelei
i expected this to be difficult. it wasnt as bad as i thought. Dewgong ate a thunderbolt, rested, then ate 3 more for the KO. cloyster ate one, hit aurora beam and then a 2nd KOed it. slowbro took one, used withdraw, took a 2nd, used amnesia and a 3rd finished it. Thicc took an ice punch from jynx, missed rock slide, switched out for barney who got KOd, sacced Ed Boyz healing Thicc, thicc took an ice punch and hit rock slide for the KO. swapped in Snek to heal up Thicc and got a blizzard for my troubles. Thicc dodged a blizzard and hit a Crit rock slide for an OHKO.

                            VS Bruno
Clean sweep for Barney, surf took down Onix, a couple more took out hitmonlee, and hitmonchan, another took down onix, and a surf crit followed by a horn attack took out Machamp eating a submission in the process.

                            VS Agatha
Ed Boyz took down gengar with a crit dig, Barney thunderbolted golbat, and after some confusion shenanigans finished it with a 2nd. Ed Boyz took down arbok with a pair of dig, getting a glare in the process. sacced a weakened barney to full restore Ed Boyz, who crit digged Gengar for the KO.

                            VS Lance
Barney Outsped, and critted gyarados for an OHKO with thunderbolt. well there goes my biggest worry, both dragonairs got decimated then aerodactyl hit a hyper beam crit to finish barney's valliant effort. Thicc took it down with rock slide then after running out of rock slides on dragonite a fierce battle of the Hyper Beams went down with Thicc eventually landing the killer Critical Hit to take down the Chonky Boi.

                            VS Blue:
Barney took down pidgeotto with a few thunderbolts. outsped, critted and KOd gyarados (deja vu) then fell to exeggcutor after some sleep shenanigans, Wakko got some damage in but fell too. leaving Thicc to end it with a horn attack. up next was Alakazam Ed Boyz took it out with a crit dig. followed by Rhydon taking a dig and finishing with fury attack. score is 3-1, Snek comes in, rock throw barely does half, and he got fire blast critted. Thicc came in, and got fire blast critted. leaving Rocky the sole survivor, to tank a fire blast, and hit one final rock throw to finish charizard and end the game.

Thoughts: this was tougher than i expected, true it went by faster than frlg would have (or god forbid Let's Go!) but the lack of variety in movesets hurt me a lot, Rhydon didnt know anything but normal moves till i taught it Rock Slide and Submission from TMs. and he was still one of only 2 pokemon on my team without a Ground move. yknow, the type this is supposed to be a mono run of. Onix learned diddly squat too but at least Bind was semi useful for awhile. none of the trainers were as tough as i thought, i was expecting lorelei to be a nightmare. and after almost being swept by Blue's gyarados in previous fights it was a relief to see Nidoking KO Lance's AND Blue's with a crit thunderbolt each in one shot.

                            MVP: Nidoking
Early it didnt do much but it learned horn attack as a good move early. but once it evolved to Nidoking and learned a nice variety of moves like thunderbolt and surf, suddenly it was a force to be reckoned with. its main advantage was unrivaled coverage.

                            LVP: Onix
I loved having the chance to use Onix for once (shame this is the last time since from gen 2 onward i have his superior evolution at my disposal) but he was pretty awful, Screech and Bind off a respectable speed stat for a ground type in gen 1 was nice but it was still too weak, not as strong as the OPness of Wrap and his attack stat was pathetic. when a 4x effective STAB move does barely half to a pokemon, there's something wrong. plus it learned diddly through the game, sticking to Screech, Rock Throw, Bind and Rage. i could have taught it slam but it wouldntve done much and was innacurate anyway.

Imma take a small break then maybe start on HeartGold sometime later.

Turns out 130 base SpA is stronger than I thought. Who knew?

Right, let the suicide run begin. Oh this is also going to be mono-gender - Only female Pokemon.

                            - I started by picking my starter. And by "picking my starter" I mean letting the RNG decide Rabinov's starter. Conveniently, my favorite d20 rolled me Piplup, meaning Rabi took the 4x weak to ice Torterra. I lost the first fight with him because Withdraw is busted.
                            - Real starter - Fjorm the Eevee. We did a little grinding, and then headed for Jubilife.
                            - Turns out Rival 2 is hard with just a non-Adaptability Eevee. We won anyway. On the 4th try.
                            - Ice Stone get means Fjorm evolved into Glaceon
                            - GYM 1: Took 4 tries, but finally got some good RNG. 2HKOing everything helped. Badges: 1
                            - Nothing of consequence until the Windworks
                            - Mars was easy.
                            - Nothing of consequence until Eterna EXCEPT...
                            - In the forest, I found a Shiny Murkrow! NOT FALCO will now be the prettiest pink fly slave.
                            - Gardenia's absence forces us to go to route 116, which I wanted to go to anyway. Because, you know, the rest of my team is there.
                            - Snow! Yay!
                            - Enter: Gjoll the Snorunt, Sylgr the Swinub, Hrid the Snover, and Leiptr the Sneasel.
                            - Slapping Brick Break on Leiptr allows me to FINALLY stop using Fjorm for a while, which is good, since she's nearly DOUBLE the level of everyone else (35 vs 18-19)
                            - Grinded to 22ish on the whole party
                            - Began the trek back to Eterna

                            The Team

I'll also be including some tidbits about important changes in Renegade Platinum for these Pokémon
                            Spoiler:

                            Fjorm (Glaceon) (F) @ Metronome
                            Ability: Snow Cloak
                            Level: 35

                            - Ice Beam
                            - Bite

Notable changes: Availability increased dramatically. Evolution changed to using an Ice Stone. Level-up movepool increased. Speed (formerly base 65) and Special Defense (formerly base 95) swapped. Gets Earth Power. Later.

                            Gjoll (Snorunt) (F) @ Never-Melt Ice
                            Ability: Inner Focus
                            Level: 22

                            - Bite
                            - Ice Fang

Notable changes: Evolution to Glalie happens 10 levels earlier (32). Both evolutions gain Levitate. Glalie gains 30 Attack and Defense (now 110 each) at the cost of losing 20 SpAtk and SpDef (now 60 each). Froslass gains 30 SpAtk (now 110) at the cost of losing 10 Atk (now 70). Both result in a 20 point increase to BST (480 -> 500).

                            Sylgr (Swinub) (F)
                            Ability: Thick Fat
                            Level: 22
                            Gentle Nature

                            - Bulldoze
                            - Mud Bomb

Notable changes: Gains Thick Fat over Oblivious. Movepool buffs. Bulldoze is in the game now, so it gets that too which is cool.

                            Hrid (Snover) (F)
                            Ability: Snow Warning
                            Level: 22
                            Bashful Nature

Notable changes: Gains Technician as an Ability. Movepool buffs, including getting Crunch which I don't know why it didn't have before and Icicle Crash. Did I mention TECHNICIAN though?
