Jeimas

Introduction
Welcome to Jeimas, the country that houses the event of my roleplay, Gunpowder. Jeimas is an influential country in its world, a land of extremes of the environment as well as in society. Jeimas is a land permeated by secrets and magic and is famed for its powerful spellweavers, affluent northern cities and poverty stricken south.

When you read through the information that gets posted here, you might gradually notice that Jeimas has many similarities to the Earth we know as well as many differences. The country of Jeimas itself (and the current time period it is set in) is based largely on the world during the period of the American Civil War and its geography is very much like someone condensed North America and jammed it into an island the shape of Tasmania. Other influences on Jeimas include Europe and fantasy literature whilst much of the lore is also taken from my own mind and that of the roleplayers in Gunpowder.

This first post serves as an index from which you can step into the world of Jeimas and explore the intricacies of its geography and culture. Below you will find links to various other posts to make navigating easier.

Exciting! I never took the time to try and understand Jeimas from the RP you've been running haha. I like the idea to have the OP be an index.

Uh, if I ruined your plans by posting here somehow, let me know and I can delete...

Jeimas

Geography
Jeimas exists on an alternate Earth, a planet where the continents are vastly different but the global environment is mostly the same. In terms of the real world, Jeimas is very similar to North America and geographically is heavily inspired by the continent. Despite its influence, Jeimas itself however is an island continent and isn't connected to a southern counterpart. It's also far smaller with its total size being slightly less than the entirety of the United States.

Much like the continent it is derived from, Jeimas has a few distinct biomes. The north of the island continent is quite close to the planet's northern polar ice cap and is notably colder than lower parts of the continent. The tip of Jeimas is a triangular field of ice that always has some degree of ice and snow cover as the temperature there typically sits around 0 degrees Celsius. This frozen plane extends from the base of the expansive Theodora Mountain Range, a series of large, grey rocky mountains that jut out from the otherwise extremely flat ground like spines. Many of these mountains are near impossible to traverse and some are volcanic.

Extending southward from the Theodora Mountains is a wide and green expanse where the temperature becomes warmer. This area consists largely of expansive open plains and smaller sects of pine forests. The terrain her is quite flat barring slight rises or falls. Flowing from north to east across this picturesque landscape is the Divine River, a gargantuan and often violent river that carries rushing water born from melting ice and snow into the far more placid but equally gigantic Lake Lucid - the largest lake in the world. A smaller and calmer river branches off partway and travels in to a series of smaller lakes towards to continents centre where the capital is located. This is one of many river systems but the only major one to contain only fresh water.

Travelling further down, through the most central part of Jeimas, the plains and prairies slowly give way to a more savannah like biome and pines gradually turn into more loosely grouped hardwoods. Several large lakes dot this landscape, although these are dwarfed by Lake Lucid to the north east.

Continuing down further and further, the land becomes much drier and plant life become sparse. Eventually the healthy and vibrant northern and central biomes give way to a much bleaker, and far hotter landscape - the south. The entire south of the continent is covered by a sandy desert landscape reminiscent of terrain generally associated with Texas or Mexico. The Barren Lands earn there name, there is far less life or water here and it rarely rains. The desert landscape is dotted by bizarre rock formations and is extremely rich in precious gems and minerals like iron, diamonds or silver (the only reason it has much population really).

Particularly rich in these resources is the most notable and astounding landmark in all of Jeimas if not on the planet: The Great Chasm. The Chasm is actually a gigantic crater, large enough to house several towns and deep enough that the chasm forms steep walls around its interior. A single, natural decline, known as the Sinking Road, at the crater's north forms a ramp down into the Chasm. To the west the Serpent's Path, the only large river in the south, leads in from the ocean and falls down the chasms side in a waterfall before continuing on further into the Chasm until it disappears underground.

The furthest south of the continent has been poorly explored, but seafarers have noted that it seems the desert landscape appears to continue on all the way to the base of Jeimas, although near the beach there is slightly more plant life that elsewhere.

Cities and Towns - North
The north of Jeimas is largely considered as heaven on Earth. The various locales in the upper half of the continent are surrounded by shimmering lakes and rivers, the vibrant greens of fields and forests and the vivid assortment of colours brought by wildflowers.

The cities and towns of the North tend to be far more affluent than their southern counterparts and thanks to the influence of the Jeiman government, a large police and peacekeeping force, numerous schools and universities and superior medical care tend to have low crime rates, well-educated citizens and a higher average life expectancy.

These locations take a lot of inspiration from idealistic views of European cities more than from locations in North America unlike Jeimas' geography. Inspiration is also taken from fantasy realms, Alaska and random stuff that's popped into my head.

The White Islands
The White Islands are a group of three large islands to the north east that fall under Jeiman control. The islands are cold and rocky and nearly perpetually blanketed in ice and snow and as such no large cities can be found there. Several small fishing villages can be found spread around the coasts of these islands however, populated primarily by Native Jeimans and the descendants of foreign pirates. These islands collectively have a seat in the Jeiman government.

The White Islands hold the distinction of being the poorest location in the north of the country. However, they also hold the distinction of being one of the places where traditional native culture is best preserved.

Aelham
Aelham is the oldest city in Jeimas, although it is by no means the largest nor the capital. The city is characterized by it's numerous old timber buildings and the large stone cathedral located near the city center.

The first true Jeiman colonials settled in the area of Aelham, at the time the area was predominately a large pine forest but much of this was gradually cleared to make way for the typical, sturdy Aelham wood buildings and for farmland. Aelham is still responsible for much of the timber that is traded throughout Jeimas.

Orhurst
Located slightly north of the middle of the continent with the River Governance flowing directly into it, Orhurst is both Jeimas' largest city and its capital. Orhurst is a political, financial and educational hub and is the headquarters for the Supreme Court, Central Government and several of Jeimas' largest corporations.

The city of Orhurst progresses outwards in rings and the construction and size of its buildings changes as you move throughout these rings. On an island within a lake at the very centre of the city sits the largest building in Jeimas: the Government Palace. This is an enormous marble and granite structure with a regal and imposing atmosphere that houses the offices of the Central Government. Extending outwards in the next ring are other buildings constructed largely of stone (although some may be made from high quality timber), these are other important government buildings such as the courts or national bank. the headquarters of large companies such as Waltham Industries and Skyrith Academy the leading university in Jeimas with a specialty in producing powerful sorcerers. More moderate sized buildings extend out from that, getting progressively smaller. These are residential districts, educational facilities and smaller businesses. Surrounding the Outskirts of Orhurst are numerous large farms.

Orhurst is the most technologically advanced city in Jeimas and has already begun the gradual change from oil and fire to electricity. It also has an advanced water system that controls sewage, drinking water etc. This is handled from a pair of enormous water reservoirs below the city that take water from collected rainwater and the River Governance and move it throughout Orhurst via a series of complex tunnels.

Riverhall
Riverhall originated as the settler of Aelham gradually spread out across the continent and required trading posts and resting places to stock up on resources and enjoy shelter from the elements. Riverhall sits close to one of the four great lakes (the four largest lakes in Jeimas) and is bordered by fields and diminishing pine forests to its north and west and loamy marshes on the side closest to the lake.

The land around Riverhall is extremely fertile and the as the small town grew towards its current state as a notable city, it developed to become surrounded my farms and plantations. In Riverhall's current state the city now sits in the centre of these organic industries whilst it itself is constructed primarily of residential districts and smaller businesses. Specialist plantations around Riverhall are responsible for cultivating a large number of rare or valuable delicacies such as truffles and exotic mushrooms and exporting them to other parts of Jeimas.

Port Blackton
Port Blackton is the chief port city in Jeimas and is named for the dark, damp and therefore dark wood of the fishing shacks and piers that extend out to the west of the city. Although forests and meadows eventually arise in most directions out of Port Blackton, the land the city itself is located on is rocky, salt-laden and not particularly fertile when compared to the rest of the northern half of Jeimas.

The economy in Port Blackton is based almost entirely on fishing and sea-based exports and imports. This city is where spices, teas and travelers who come directly from the west all end up before being distributed (or traveling of their own will in the case of travelers) to other regions of Jeimas. Similar is true of Port Blackton's lucrative fishing industry where large amounts of fish are either sold in one of the city's many marketplaces or salted/preserved and sold to the other cities.

Port Blackton could be considered the city in the north where the government holds the least power. The fishing and shipping companies of the city contribute a large amount to not only Port Blackton's local economy, but that of the nation as a whole and as such these companies hold a great deal of power within the city. It is generally very unwise to cross them.

Earnest
Earnest is one of a trio of smaller, central cities sitting by the westernmost most of Jeimas' Great Lakes. It is surrounded by extremely open land for the most part with lush green fields existing in most northerly directions whilst heading southward the land begins to turn into more of a savannah.

Earnest's economy consists of very little produced in its own locales, rather it acts as one of two trade hubs between the north and south, connecting resources from Riverhall and Port Blackton to Ironhaven in the south whilst the gems and minerals of the Barren Lands' mining towns often travel northward through Earnest.

The people of Earnest have a reputation for being some of the friendliest denizens of Jeimas, which is unusual because their trade routes are routinely plundered by outlaws. Despite the supposedly friendly nature of the city, it is extremely hard to find lasting work there on account of their trade-based economy.

Summerice
Summerice is the city furthest to the east of the continent and sits close by the enormous Lake Lucid. The land around Summerice is considered extremely scenic and beautiful and is covered largely in a colourful mass of wild flowers and luscious green meadows although these fields are now also dotted with farmland.

Summerice, much like the landscape around it, is generally regarded as the most aesthetically pleasing of all Jeiman cities and is known for its beautiful architecture, tranquil parks, prestigious artisans and art colleges and for an extremely large number of gorgeous, intricate fountains. Due to this appeal and for technological advancement rivaling the capital, Summerice has developed an extremely high cost of living for the age.

Due to the appeal of the city and for the high living cost, there is a greater percentage of wealthy people living in Summerice than anywhere else in Jeimas - even though Orhurst and Port Blackton have stronger economies and are more wealthy in general. Despite this however, some small businesses do thrive in the city such as independent farmers or fisherman who collect fresh water fish from Lake Lucid.

Hummia
This is the smallest of the northern cities but sits by the second-largest of the four Great Lakes. The landscape around Hummia is extremely marshy and loamy for the most art due to its proximity to Jeimas' river system and location central to the three smaller Great Lakes.

Hummia is well known for being the origin point of Jeimas' carrier pigeon service, however this is becoming redundant due to the invention of the telegraph and the increased use of magical means of communication. With a decline in the demand for this message service and for the expertly trained birds of the city and a farming industry greatly overshadowed by Riverhall, Hummia survives largely by the graces of trade with its neighbouring lake cities and its connection to the Barren Lands via Southbridge's trade route.

Cities and Towns - South
If the north of Jeimas is like heaven, then the south is the equivalent of hell. Unlike the north of the continent where cities are surrounded by greenery and plant life, the south of Jeimas is covered entirely by an enormous and harsh desert known as the Barren Lands. Life is sparse here and the population is small as the land is hot and dry and it's difficult for most plants to grow.

The towns in the Barren Lands are typically very poor and most locals struggle to survive and stay afloat. The vast wealth in resources found in south is owned largely by the large corporations of the northern cities or by the government itself and a very meager amount of the large amounts of money produced by the mining industry finds its way back into the hands of southerners.

Due the economic hardship and harshness of the landscape, many of those in the south find themselves turning to crime in order to survive - taking advantage of a small police force and lack of government presence to lie, steal, cheat and kill there way to survival. As a result of the enormous amount of crime, small police/government presence and desperate need of cash a large bounty hunting industry has developed in the south that is not present in the north.

The locations in the south of the country take a lot of inspiration from the stereotypical "wild west" towns of the cinema, fantasy realms, the Australian mining towns that I'm familiar with and of course random things that pop out of my own twisted mind.

Iron Haven
The largest city in the Barren Lands (although far smaller than most cities in the North) and one off from being the northernmost, Ironhaven is more or less the hub of the south. Ironhaven is located several days of horseback travel north of the Great Chasm and south of the cities Earnest and Southbridge.

Merchants and traders of all sorts flock to Ironhaven to ply their wears and tonnes of ore passes through the city on its way to northern cities where it's purified and put to use. As the only large place of trade and a retail hub for the south of the continent, Ironhaven is easily the wealthiest of the locations in the Barren Lands although still extremely poor by the standards of the north.

Ironhaven is by far the best place to officially and properly learn sorcery in the Barren Lands, however due to costs most spellweavers in the south tend to learn from any magical relatives or self teach. The city is surrounded by enormous stone walls with large and heavy iron gates. These walls were erected to ward off attacks from natives during the war time and also from the large numbers of outlaws that steadily began to appear after colonisation. The walls are specially designed so that a magical barrier can be channeled through them by a group of able spellcasters to further enhance the already potent physical defense.

Spider's Hollow
Named for the Togt Lupok Galva tribe that once inhabited the Great Chasm, Spider's Hollow is the second smallest and most central of the Chasm towns. The land around Spider's Hollow was once home to the most major Togt Lupok Galva settlement but nobody is sure why this was the case because it appears to be borderline impossible to grow anything in the area. It has been speculated that this was an effort by the native clan to spite their conquerors.

Other than this odd facet, Spider's Hollow is notable only for a particularly well-liked tavern and for Janet's Bounty Hunting Agency. The agency is run by a now crippled (and extremely grouchy) old woman, once a famous and feared hunter in its own right and is one of the most respected agencies in the south as well as the only one within the Chasm. The breadwinners of Spider's Hollow typically earn their keep by trading with passers by or, more often, by working in nearby towns like Gilded Brook.

Gilded Brook
Gilded Brook is located on the edge of the Barren Lands' only river of note and is a town slightly larger than Spider's Hollow, it's closest neighbour. Like just about everywhere else in the South very little grows in the area but it's fairly easy to come by cheap booze.

Gilded Brook was founded and named after prospectors discovered extremely rich deposits of gold by panning the nearby river. It has since developed into a mining town and the area around it is pockmarked by deep mine shafts. Although gold is the towns primary export, several other valuable ores and also stores of coal can be mined in the area. Gilded Brook is routinely raided by outlaws due to the mines and it's extremely commonplace to Janet's hunters or freelancers in the area searching for an easy bounty.

Larkin
Larkin is the largest town in the Great Chasm and is located in the north of the crater by Sinking Road, the only way down into the deep depression. Despite the harshness of the landscape, several small wheat or livestock farms can be found around the outskirts of the town.

Residents of Larkin make their living primarily as farmers or as miners in the mines by Wrench, however several local establishments (many of which that serve liquor) also exist and work can be found in maintaining the Sinking Road or in the slow-going construction of a railroad tunnel out of the Chasm.

There was once plans to unite Larkin and the nearby Wrench as a single, lucrative city within the Chasm and a few buildings did pop up between the two. Due to the cost and a disinterested government however, these plans fell through and the majority of these buildings have since gone to pieces. The building in the best condition, an opera house for whatever reason, recently burned to the ground.

Wrench
Wrench was the smallest town in the Chasm, even smaller than Spider's Hollow. Like Gilded Brook, Wrench functioned as a mining town and the entire community of the town either worked on or around the numerous mines penetrating deep underground (either vertically or into the walls of the Chasm). A great deal of valuable materials can be found in these mines.

Wrench was recently destroyed in events surrounding a fanatical woman named Cosma and her niece, Alice who has since been possessed by a demonic entity known as Verelys (collectively they are known as Veralice). All that remains of the town are a few barely standing buildings and piles upon piles of discarded wood, metal and other assorted debris that used to make up the rest of the town. Most of the mines around the town are still functioning and some have begun to rebuild, however with money scare, materials costly and no assistance from the government, progress is very slow.

Silverston
Silverston is located not far from the Great Chasm, lying to the crater's west by the same river that finds its way into the area by Gilded Brook. It is a town far larger than those in the Chasm with perhaps only Larkin giving it any competition there, although far too small to be considered a true city like Ironhaven or Southbridge. Silverston is one of the most isolated places of living in the South being outside the Chasm and several days travel from Ironhaven.

Like most other places in the Chasm, Silverston exists primarily for mining and the area around the town is covered with mines of varying success rates - including the largest silver mine in the world and several smaller silver and gold mines as well as those digging for platinum, iron ore and coal. The town is an easy target for outlaws because of its isolated nature and is known to be somewhat under the thumb of particularly dangerous outlaws Borya Bogden and Felix Griffin.

Southbridge
Southbridge is where the South officially begins and is considered by many as the beginning of the Barren Lands also atlhough it is actually just outside the desert. Narrowly missing out on the nearly uninhabitable desert, Southbridge lies in a hot Savannah surrounded by farmland.

Southbridge acts as one of the gateways between the north and south of the continent, hence its name, and a lot of goods pass back and forth between the city and Ironhaven. This constant tradeflow and the most fertile land in the south surrounding it lead to Southbridge having a poor but stable economy. It is the second largest city in the south behind Ironhaven. Southbridge's biggest claim to fame is that it was the home of the first bounty hunting agency in the south.

Fairbell
Fairbell is the southermost town in the Great Chasm and is only slightly larger than the likes of Spider's Hollow or Wrench. The land around Fairbell consists of the typical empty desert but is dotted by fields of wheat grown by the local farmers.

Fairbell's really only place of note is the small but beautifully designed church at its centre. The locals of Fairbell are heavily influenced by members of this church and as there's no religious establishments in either Spider's Hollow or Gilded Brook, locals from these towns often visit Fairbell to attend sermons. Recently the original church was demolished in a battle involving outlaws "Sister" Tess and Emmett Holliday and church enforcer Ezekiel. It is currently undergoing reconstruction although regular sermons are still held outside the building.

The Lost Towns
In addition to these towns there are three other locations of note, not for anything particularly special about them whilst they existed but because they no longer do. These were the small town of Rigget located at the back of the Great Chasm as well as the two larger towns of Cobalt and Sandon that were of a similar size as Silverston. Cobalt was located not far from Silverston whilst Sandon lied on the eastern side of the Barren Lands quite close to the sea.

These three towns are famous because of the actions of a man known only as Demon and his followers. An extremely notorious outlaw with the second highest bounty of any outlaw in Jeiman history, Demon appeared out of nowhere with his cohort and road through these towns leaving nothing but flames, rubble and bodies in his wake. It has been theorised that he now uses the ruins of Sandon or Cobalt as a hideout and as a result people typically avoid both.

Why did I figured I was gonna have a lot to read here smh I don't see Desmond

You know I love gunpowder so there isn't much to say where's Desmond you're getting into a lot of details man, are you planning to reveal unexplored parts of the RP's world here?

all hail Desmond

I already did xD
The RP hasn't touched anywhere in the north. I'll probably explore a fair bit that the RP doesn't touch including a more coherent version of the lore developed by the first Jeimas mafia game too.

I literally wiped Desmond from existence

Jeimas

People and Races
The land of Jeimas may be a land of mysteries and magic, but ultimately it is human land, populated predominately by regular human beings of various creeds with only a fraction of them possessing magical abilities. That being said, in a land like Jeimas there's bound to be a few exceptions to this humanity.

The Colonists
South West: Before the land of Jeimas was colonised by the White Men from the west, coastal native clans would often find themselves interacting with seafarers and pirates from a smaller continent to the south west. These interactions could either be peaceful or violent depending on whether or not the travelers came to Jeimas to trade or to plunder, however due to the lifestyle of the natives even pirates would more often than not would get along well enough with the natives - you can't steal from people who don't really have anything. It is for this reason that traders became rarer and rarer and eventually most visitors from the south west stopped coming with any regularity.

It wasn't until later on, after the arrival of the White Men, that seafarers from this continent begun returning to Jeimas for business or theft as these new colonists did not live harmoniously with the environment and instead took the Earth's natural resources for their own and begun developing a thriving economy. Gradually over time, members of this foreign society have assimilated into Jeimas but they make up an exceptionally small demographic when compared to White Men or natives.

West and North West: Called the White Men by the Native Jeiman tribes, these colonists could also be referred to as conquerors. They hail from an enormous, Europe-like continent to the west of Jeimas where the majority of the country was under the rule of a large and powerful empire.

At first small exploration fleets "discovered" the land of Jeimas but eventually it was large groups of colonists that begun coming ashore on the coast close to where the old city of Aelham now stands. These people felt themselves superior to the Native Jeimas and claimed the continent for their own and for many years they warred with the natives as they harvested forests, plowed fields and erected cities gradually taking over the continent. It was much later on that the two groups eventually found peace.

The Native Jeimans
The Native Jeimans are very much based on both Native American culture and slightly less factual stereotypes of the same group of people (I'm shameless I know). Their features echo those of their real life counterparts and in many ways so does their original society and way of life.

The Native Jeimans did not have a single cohesive society, instead several different tribes claimed various territories across the continent. Some tribes however were particularly large and powerful with wide territories, these groups would typically allow smaller clans to exist within their borders however. Particularly notable clans are:

The Aet Toko (The Eagles of North): The smallest of the Three Great Clans - the largest and most powerful native tribes. The Aet Toko were known for powerful wind-based magic and maintained a large territory extending down from the Theodora Mountains to around the vicinity of where Orhurst now stands. They were the first major clan to come into contact with the White Men and had generally peaceful relations with others.

The Lan Kerluk (The Grey Wolves): The largest and most powerful of the Great Clans. They were largely known for their ability to manipulate their environment or bodies and were renowned as shapeshifters. Their territory extended from around the base of the Aet Toko's to slightly below where Southbridge now stands. It was also wide reaching from near Port Blackton's location to the western side of Lake Lucid and the Divine River. They were one of several wolf clans in the central region and acted as the leading group of these clans but preferred not to interact with those outside their sphere of influence. Other clans tended to be weary of them and they routinely warred with the Togt Nakat of the south.

The Togt Nakat (The Southern Serpents): The last of the Great Clans and one that frequently came into conflict with the Lan Kerluk. They were known to be extremely resourceful on account of the harsh environment they lived in and were talented at manipulating reptiles and performing rain dance spells. They were very knowledgeable of the venomous creatures who live in the Barren Lands. The territory of the Togt Nakat begun slightly below the southern border of the Lan Kerluk and snaked (yes really) around the east of the Great Chasm for quite a ways although nobody is sure for exactly how far.

The Togt Lupok Galva (The Spiders of the Chasm (or more literally Spiders of the Southern Hole): A reclusive clan that liked to keep to themselves. Little is known about them in the modern age but in the past they were the soul controllers of the Great Chasm and were known to have never been conquered until the arrival of the White Men.

The Guardites: A small, strange and extremely religious clan that were universally disliked by the other clans. They were largely nomadic but did have a few small villages deep in the desert. They spoke a totally different language to the other clans (who all spoke similar languages if not simply regional dialects of the same one) and were known for their tendency to slip into the villages or camps of other clans and kill people. Upon the arrival of the White Men many natives took great pleasure in directing the colonists towards Guardites although by this stage few of this group remained for reasons that will later become obvious.

The Followers of Vereryl: The last clan to ever come into existence, they were lead by an extremely powerful man named Vereryl. His great power came from a connection to spiritual entities and their inhuman influences gradually corrupted him until he became a dark entity himself. This was a wandering clan comprised of those who splintered off from their original groups in awe of Vereryl.

Familiars
Familiars are generally just animals or animal-like creatures that are summoned forth either from a part of this world or in the case of unusually gifted summoners, other worlds entirely. Typically these creatures are tamed by the summoning magic and lack sentience but on occasion spells have been known to corrupt familiars and turn them into things they are not. A notable example of this would be a drug dealing outlaw named Scrig who happens to be a corrupted dog familiar somehow free of his summoners control. These cases are rare but Scrig is not unique.

Entities
Sentient (probably) otherworldly beings akin to spirits. Extremely little is known about them however they can typically be split into two categories - Pure or Corrupt. One can turn to the other with relative ease for various reasons that nobody understands really - just one of many things not understood about them by those who actually believe they exist. Entities are extremely powerful, so much so that those who come into contact with them often come to revere them as gods although it is doubtful this is what they are.

Jeimas

History - The Age of Demons
For thousands of years before the arrival of the White Men, Jeimas was populated only by Native Jeimans. Nobody knows how or why these people came to be on the island continent. According to their mythologies they have been there since Creation or shortly after, if you believe the growing number of evolutionists they had to have come from elsewhere since Jeimas is an island and humanity developed elsewhere originally.

The Native Jeimans lived in harmony with nature. Many were nomadic, whilst others did have small permanent settlements but a general rule of both groups was that they only took what they needed and that they gave back to nature what they could. This was time when the north was covered in vast forests of pine, flowering meadows that put even those around Summerice to shame and even the Barren Lands were a little less Barren. As with all societies however, conflict was inevitable and being harmonious with the world around you does not mean the same as being harmonious with other human beings.

It soon became clear that some clans were simply more powerful than others however and just as power struggles lead to tensions and even violence between the larger clans, smaller ones would soon fall under the influence of larger ones. It was as such that the era of the Great Clans came to be.

Eventually Jeimas settled into an uneasy peace. The Aet Toko maintained their territory in the North and The Togt Nakat their winding territory in the south. The Lan Kerluk would on occasion make pushes to expand into the territory of the other two and disputes between or over smaller clans sometimes occurred but mostly the world maintained a shaky neutrality.

All this changed however, when a man named Vereryl of the small Faere Mautu (Wandering Bears) came into contact with the entity then known as Lys. Part of a small, neutral tribe of nomads that wandered across the continent, Vereryl was effected greatly by the moods and tensions of the larger more stagnant clans. He desired to become powerful so he could force the land into peace. Lys was a Pure Entity, a being incomprehensible to Vereryl and a chance encounter in the Barren Lands that would change the fate of the entire continent. Lys possessed Vereryl - to this day nobody knows why - and Vereryl is said to have shone with a brilliant white light from that day forth. He gained power beyond the average mortal human and quickly ascended to chiefdom in the Faere Mautu.

This created an imbalance of power that Vereryl could never have predicted. In his quest for peace, his newly attained power brought war to Jeimas. All the clans were weary of this new power on their political landscape, especially the feared Lan Kerluk who had grown accustomed to being the strongest group in the land. At first this was merely an escalation of tensions, but with the passing of the Lan Kerluk's Chieftan and the rise of a new leader the Lan Kerluk became aggressive. They begun forcing their way into the territory of others and conquered many smaller clans to expand their control. Afraid of having to face Vereryl and the Lan Kerluk, the Aet Toko and Togt Nakat formed an alliance from opposite ends of the continent and retaliated against the Kerluk as one.

The most violent and massive clan war in recorded history had begun and Vereryl, his mind rendered unstable by his possession by Lys became supremely enraged and begun preparing his small clan to unleash hell on the larger three. Despite his great power however, his little nomadic tribe did not feel they could defeat the Great Clans and eventually the majority of the Faere Mautu attempted to stage a coup. Vereryl and the three followers who remained loyal to him easily slaughtered their former clan and thus the Faere Mautu were no more. From that day on, Vereryl's shining light is said to have begun to dim.

Even as Vereryl became more and more powerful and unstable, his rage and growing bloodlust quickly corrupting the once pure entity within him, the Great Clans continued their war. Vereryl begun to indiscriminately lay waste to the Great Clans even as the tide turned in favour of the united Eagles and Serpents.

The Lan Kerluk were forced to admit defeat, the clan had been wiped out and they could no longer stand against attacks from the Aet Toko, Togt Nakat, allied small clans and also Vereryl who had begun to amass followers in a new clan of his own. The Lan Kerluk disintegrated and the other Kerluk clans immediately ceased to fight. Caught up in their feud however, they Great Clans had allowed Vereryl to grow too powerful.

His once shining glow had now become nothing but darkness. Vereryl was gone and Verelys stood in his place - a being more Entity than human who wished only to destroy and behind Verelys (who was still known by his human name at this time) stood the Followers of Vereryl, many of whom were gifted power beyond most by their leader.

Realising at last where their true foe lied, the remaining two Great Clans gathered as many allies as they could and fought against the outnumbered followers of Vereryl. Despite having the advantage in numbers however, the alliance struggled to defeat their new enemy. However one of Verelys' followers grew uneasy, he begun to see that the Vereryl who sought peace was no more and he could not follow a being who was not only no longer human, but no longer stood for what they had been fighting for. The Betrayer as he came to be known, begun to arrange Verelys' defeat. In a sudden attack, The Betrayer gave his life to injure and incapacitate Verelys allowing the best warriors and spellweavers of the allied Great Clans to defeat and seal away the Entity.

I'm just posting here to say I haven't forgotten this or canned it or anything. I've been really struggling with writer's block this past few weeks and that's slowing all my projects down not just this one.

Hopefully I'll replace this lame excuse with an actual contribution shortly.

Jeimas

History - Colonization
Whilst things eventually begun to settle in Jeimas after the defeat of Verelys and the collapse of the Lan Kerluk, the peace that followed was an uneasy one itself in many ways. There was a power vacuum in the central area of Jeimas that the Lan Kerluk had once occupied. Several other Kerluk clans were trying to establish themselves as the new dominant tribe whilst the Aet Toko and Togt Nakat were gradually expanding into the middle of the continent themselves. It was into this new era that the White Men arrived. Men with different magic, more advanced technology and a belief of racial superiority grown in them.

These colonists came from a massive super-continent to the West of Jeimas, and were citizens of the enormous empire that covered the vast majority of the foreign land. They were charged with expanding the borders of their nation over the sea and into the unknown to create an unprecedented superpower and they intended to do so.

The first colonists arrived on the north-western coast of Jeimas and soon found the land to be abundant in wood, materials and food sources. Their first meetings with the Native Jeimans were uneventful, the natives stayed away fearful of these strange men but curious all the same whilst the colonists viewed them with disgust, as lesser beings not worth their time. They acted aggressively towards the natives but it wasn't until they begun to pilfer Jeimas' natural resources the conflicts truly begun to arise.

The White Men soon settled where Aelham now stands and begun to rapidly decimate the dense pine forests around the area to build housing, repair ships and supply their empire with more timber. They converted meadows into large farms and plantations and feasted on any and all creatures with no regard for their preservation. Many of the Kerluk clans as well as the Aet Toko in the north came into increasingly hostile situations, incensed by the destruction of everything they held dear. As the White Men continued to expand, leaving a path of destruction in their wake, full scale war between they and the native clans eventually broke out.

The Kerluk clans finally settled disputes and united against this new threat, but found that they could only defend themselves against the hordes of new settlers pouring into the region. Any attempts to drive the White Men out were met with slaughters at their hands. Victory was not an option, only survival.

The Aet Toko found themselves facing a similar problem and withdrew back into their own territory, sacrificing much land to the White Men in the process. They chose to hold their own borders rather than fight back, realizing that victory was far from guaranteed against the technologically superior enemy. Furthermore they faced an invisible enemy, as diseases they had never experienced ripped through their populations.

As the central and northern clans crumbled under the might of the White Men, the colonists - the invaders - continued to expand the borders of their new country outwards. Eventually reaching the beginning of the Barren Lands. Here, they begun to face more trouble. The harsh lands were something the White Men had hardly ever experienced before and unlike the Native Jeiman clans, they did not have spells to summon rain. Unable to sustain themselves, they begun to attack even more aggressively and enslaved natives for their ability to create moisture.

As the years went by, the Aet Toko, Kerluk and other clans were all but wiped out due to warfare and disease as the empire of the White Men continued to grow. The Togt Nakat and Togt Lupok Galva were the only truly powerful clans remaining, holding out in the Barren Lands but they too were beginning to lose their grasp on the land.

The colonists had realised that the diseases they had brought with them had been causing havoc among the other clans and begun to use this to their advantage. They turned rotting corpses into ammunition, flinging them into camps and using them to poison food supplies. This tactic was not as effective against the Togt Nakat who were very widely spread, but the powerful Togt Lupok Galva who lived solely within the confines of the walls of the Great Chasm were besieged by the germ warfare and falling fast. Their close-knit and confined community was ripped apart by an inescapable plague and gradually became weaker and weaker. eventually their once impenetrable border was broken and the White Men were able to eradicate the once formidable group and begin mining their mineral rich home.

More time passed and most of Jeimas had fallen under the control of the White Men who had by now established many townships and cities. Most of the clans now tried to live whilst avoiding the colonists, but as their territory grew encounters were unavoidable as were slaughters. The game was to change however. Civil war broke out in the home empire of the White Men and eventually the gigantic kingdom that had ruled over that continent fell apart. Suddenly, the Jeiman White Men were cut off and the footing was more equal once more.

Unable to seek reinforcements from their homeland, the White Men begun to focus on fortifying their existing territory and less on eradicating the Natives. They also begun to worry more about sustaining themselves than their empire and had to work to create a new economy for themselves. They were without support and realised they were now an independent nation on a continent they had never bothered to learn about and so found themselves in a strange position. They were forced to deal with the natives they had been trying to wipe out.

It took a long time to establish communication - but thanks to enslaved Native Jeimans who had learned the language of the White Men, the White Men agreed to cease their genocide and shared their medicine with native clans whilst the Native Jeimans divulged what they knew of the continent. An uneasy ceasefire was developed and continued to persist as more and more the two races discovered they could benefit from one another.

Whilst it took many years for slaves to be freed, safe zones to be established and a sense of mutual friendship to develop, eventually a new multi-ethnic nation of Jeimas was born and it did not take too long for it to become a powerful and wealthy nation indeed.
