Unific: The Challengers' Journey

Welcome to the Unific Region

The Unific Region lies a little north of the equator, separate from larger landmasses. The region is a small, singular landmass and is largely tropical in nature being heavily forested across much of its landscape, although it supports many different biomes including beaches, volcanoes and mountains and even vast open savannahs.

There a few traditional routes in Uific, with most of the spaces between towns and cities being occupied by large Wild Areas. This is a part of the Unific Region's government being highly dedicated to preserving the diverse and flourishing ecology of their isolated home.

Given the vast swathes of unpopulated land and the isolation of the region, it would likely come as a surprise to most that Unific is actually a scientific powerhouse, being one of the best educated regions in the world with an extremely productive scientific sector. This science sector then leads to very active and powerful businesses and along with it a surprisingly good flow of cash into the region. That being said, the vast majority of the wealth and industry in the region is centred around the capital city of Crescendo.

The second largest industry in the Unific Region is competitive Pokemon. There are two competitive seasons in Unific, the Amateur League and the Professional League, although Professional exhibition matches are held year round. The Amateur League consists of the Gym Challenge and Challenge Cup. The Professional League is a long series of battles to determine the Champion of the region.

Roleplay Mechanics

Unific: The Challengers' Journey is semi-sandbox. The RP is broken down into chapters based on the locations you will be passing through. For the most part, what you do during each chapter will be up to you - although of course your goal is to challenge the gyms. That being said, you're expected to think a lot about how your characters will grow to know each other as they run into each other across this journey and to include character development. At some points throughout this story, elements of a larger plot will begin to take shape. Sometimes these points will be mandatory for everyone, at other times, they may only involve one or two of you.

Mechanically, Unific will take inspiration from the stylings of the anime more than the games, but there are nuances and points where the reverse is true. Firstly, there are not predefined routes in the RP, instead we have Wild Areas. You will be provided with a basic, barebones description of the types of terrain between you and your destination but exactly what landscapes you cross on your way are up to you so long as they fit the information you're given. You're free to invent small settlements that don't appear on the map to pass through as well, but stick to the naming convention.

In a similar vein, there are few restrictions on what you can catch. You can catch any non-legendary/mythical first-stage Pokemon at any time so long as the location it's in makes sense. However, each Wild Area chapter will also contain a small list of evolved Pokemon available for capture. You can evolve your Pokemon whenever, but confirm with me first.

For moves, you choose from your Pokemon's most recently available movepool. You can have your Pokemon learn new moves at your leisure, no need to confirm. However, there is nuance here. Pokemon can learn moves in their level-up movepools from the games instantaneously and spontaneously. For moves from their TM/HM/TR and Tutor movepools, you must show the process of training to learn to use that move.

While there is no recorded money system, please keep in mind that as travelling Amateur trainers, you earn the money you need to survive through winning prize money in battles or taking odd jobs where needed.

How You Fit In

You play as a new Amateur League hopeful undertaking the Gym Challenge in the hopes of impressing at the Challenge Cup. Whatever your reasons are, you are now rivals with one another as well as with any NPCs participating in the Amateur League - some of whom are not on their first run.

As you progress through the RP, you'll grow as a character and build relationships with your fellow competitors. However, not everything will be a positive experience as behind the scenes, something shady is underfoot.

The Unific Leagues

The Amateur League
Unlike in some other regions, in Unific where following the competitive scene is a huge part of most lives, even the Amateur League is a very big deal and is watched live at large stadiums or on television.

To compete in the Amateur League, the player must first receive an official endorsement from a person in one of the below categories. Many of these groups will hold their own competitions to determine who they will endorse.

- A ranking official in the Pokemon League Authority (PLA)
- A member of the Professional League
- A Principal of a PLA recognised Trainer School
- The CEO of a PLA recognised business.

The lucky few who are endorsed to participate in the Amateur League then undertake the Gym Challenge. There are ten currently operating official PLA gyms in Unific. Each operates on scheduled days running a Gym Challenge to weed out the weaker competitors before allowing the remaining challengers to battle the Leader. Every Gym Leader is eligible to compete during the Pro season and many do, although usually several will opt out each season. In order to qualify for the Challenge Cup, an Amateur League competitor must defeat eight of the ten Unific gyms and obtain their badges and prize money.

The Professional League
The Pro League is populated by the Unific Gym Leaders, previous Amateur League winners and a handful of dark horse choices who put in a strong enough showing in the Challenge Cup to be personally elevated by the PLA. Unlike in the Amateur League where you need to continue to win prize money to make an income, members of the Pro League are all paid a very healthy wage and are regarded as top-tier celebrities.

The Pro Season consists of a round robin tournament to earn qualification points, followed by an elimination tourney for those who earn enough points to qualify. The winner of that tourney earns the right to challenge the Champion, who does not participate in the season until the final battle. Defeating the Champion means you take their place.

Released Form

Released Form is a battle mechanic prominent in the Pro League and Challenge Cup in Unific. This is not a power like Mega Evolution or Dynamax that is achieved through the use of items, it is a power that requires extensive training to access. Training methods vary, but the general gist is that the Pokemon must draw out as much of its power as possible all at once, something very draining. Aside from this extensive training, a Pokemon must already be at its final stage of evolution to access this ability.

A Released Form Pokemon radiates golden light and sparks of crackling red energy (Much like the Break! Cards in the TCG). Their offensive abilities are doubled, if not more, pushed to their absolute maximum. This places a lot of strain on the user, however, and causes their stamina (basically their HP) to drain very quickly. It takes a lot of training to master this form and hold it for more than a few seconds. The PLA's rules state that only one Pokemon can enter Released Form per battle.

Rules

1. This RP is rated M, but consider it a fairly light M. Don't abuse it. If you're unsure about what you plan to do, ask me first.
2. All RPT and PC rules apply (obviously).
3. GM word is law.
4. There is an emphasis on the growth of your characters and character relationships. Keep that in mind before you try to solo run everything. JPs please.
5. As always, have fun or I'll feed you to a kitten.

Sign-Up Sheet

Name:
Age: (13-16 since you're newbies. I might allow older if you have good reason, but we'll have to talk about it.)
Gender:
Hometown: See the location information below. You can also invent your own, but stick to the musical theory naming convention.

Appearance: This includes your casual appearance as well as your uniform worn during League events.

Personality:

Backstory: You don't need to be too expansive, but tell us where you're from and why you're undertaking the Gym Challenge. Who endorsed you and why? Any important events in your history?

Starter: Any first-stage non-legendary/mythical Pokemon. Include its ability, up to six moves and any other important info you want.

Participants

There are a maximum number of seven slots in this RP, but I'm going to be taking one of them. So up to six other people can join. This will not be first come, first serve for the sake of a little quality control/being fair to people who haven't gotten back from trips yet. I will decide who is accepted in roughly a week, but I may offer some constructive criticism on SUs in the meantime. That being said, I'm not setting the bar ridiculously high.

gimmepie as Elleni Vargas

Cubism as Carmen Sylvia
Magnificent Magilou as Janice Carter

Locations of Unific

Spoiler: Map of Unific
JPziB4L.png

Crescendo City
Crescendo is both the capital of Unific and, by far, the largest of the cities. Located in the centre of the region, surrounded by Wild Area, Crescendo is likely not what you'd expect from such a large city. While there are plenty of skyscrapers, much of the city is comprised of buildings that are old or new buildings made to fit aesthetically with the old. The city is dotted by numerous parks and plazas and is famed for its museums. Of course, the main attraction is Crescendo Stadium, a huge arena located in the very centre of the city, where most of the Pro League matches are held as are the Challenge Cup and the Opening Ceremony of the Amateur League.

Crescendo is divided into several districts built around the Central District where the Stadium is. The districts are connected by a subway system below ground and by taxi services above.

Dolce City
Although far smaller than Crescendo to the south, Dolce is a thriving city with its own unique appeal. Dolce sits at the point where the grasslands and forests of the wilds between it and Crescendo becomes more mountainous and blends the two, serving as a near seamless transition point between the different biomes. The city rises up in tiers and contains many multi-story buildings, the smallest of which often connecting one tier to the next. Most larger buildings have open platforms at the top and these, along with a lot of other open spaces, are adorned by trees and grass. Dolce is famed for its locally produced berries and berry produce and for the harmonious relationship the locals share with the many wild Bug and Grass types that call the city home.

Fugue Village
Fugue is a small, marshy village, isolated by mountains on one side and the river on the other. Laying right by the coast, residents are treated to ocean views. Buildings here are mostly quick ramshackle, mostly being made of wood that has been darkened by rain. There is no proper Pokemon Centre here, but the locals are all very friendly and happy to lend a hand or rent out space if the tiny lodge in the town is full. Many grow medicinal herbs which are often donated to the lodge for the use of trainers passing through.

Marcato City
Situated on a grassy, marshy plain between two large rivers, there are three things this city has in common with Fugue; the breathtaking ocean views, the grassy marshlands that surround it and, finally, it's more isolated nature of the city on account of the large rivers that box it in. Marcato is a small city with very few tall buildings. As such, the Gym Stadium that sits in the centre north stands out quite dramatically. Cruise ships dock here often, but it is hardly a favourite destination for tourists given that it is constantly raining or being buffeted by cyclonic winds. Marcato residents have a very casual way of speaking and use a lot of local colloquialisms.

Polyphony Town
Although far from being a fully-fledged city, Polyphony is a large town and is noteworthy for its very irregular topography, standing on numerous hills and plateaus and dropping off to steep cliffs down the coast. The culture and architecture of Polyphony have been heavily influenced by early Kalosian immigrants, leading the town to look something of a mashup between Geosenge and Aquacorde. The Gym Stadium stands in a prominent place here, on the highest and flattest plateau. Aside from hosting the Gym Challenge, Leader Volante regularly organises performances in the Kalosian style here.

Segno Town
Segno is a small town pockmarked by craters, many of which contain fluorescent meteorites, painstakingly carved into perfect spheres by an old indigenous culture, that glow a faint blue during the night. Spheres were very important to that culture, as were the meteorites themselves, leading to the vast majority of the buildings in the town being partly or entirely spherical themselves.

Largo City
Largo is a bustling, palm-dotted port city and a popular tourist destination in Unific boasting a closeness to beautiful scenery of both the forested and beachy varieties and an active nightlife with multiple popular clubs and bars. Numerous hotels are also present. Largo has a large youth population and residents have a well-earned reputation for being fashionable and up on the latest trends.

Tritone Village
Tritone is a small farming village on the opposite bit of shoreline to Largo City from which it is separated by a large dormant volcano and a large rainforest. The land around Tritone is highly fertile and grow abundant crops, leading the little village being largely self-sustaining with little need for outside trade - although Largo is close enough for those things things that can't be gotten elsewhere. Occasionally, tourists looking for a quieter experience without losing the beautiful views afforded by Largo will take up lodging in the town or Gym Challenges will pass through on their way too or from Largo.

Vivace City
Located south-west from Crescendo, Vivace City is another port city and one of the largest in the region. Vivace is also the hottest city in Unific, with some of the most extreme weather. Here it is comparatively very dry and sunny compared to other parts of the region, but this can very suddenly turn on a dime to violent winds and stormy weather on account of regular tropical storms. The city is very sandy, being largely built along the beachfront and is dotted by palms. Vivace is famous for the quality of its restaurants and cafes, as well for its beautiful aquarium. It is a popular destination for both Unific natives and for tourists.

Octave City
Octave City is immediately recognisable on account of the predominately white buildings throughout and is both one of the largest cities in Unific and a cultural and artistic hub. Although from a distance, it's montone aesthetic might give the appearance of dullness, on closer inspection, Octave is a bustling city of beautiful and creative architecture. The streets and plazas of this city are populated by varying kinds of busker, pop-up markets sell sculptures and art and the famed Octave Art Galleries and Concert Halls can be found here. Even the Gym Stadium is a work of art, Pure White barring beautifully painted red, flame motifs and sporting a shape much like a crown.

Quaver Town
Quaver is a large town, across the river from Octave and built on volcanic land. Quaver isn't particularly impressive visually at ground level, but from higher ground it can be seen that the town is built in a loose spiral pattern, moving out from the Gym Stadium at the centre. The nearby hot springs are a popular attraction and a geothermal power plant is located on the outskirts of the settlement.

Clef Town
Clef is a small coastal town in the south-west of Unific. It is a very scenic location, beyond the volcanic land and into a heavily forested Wild Area that eventually opens out into largely flat-white beaches overlooked by the main body of the town. Despite being home to one of Unific Region's gyms, the town lacks a true stadium, the challenge instead of taking part in an open outdoor amphitheatre at the top of a hill.

Semplice City
Semplice is a simple, slow-moving city that expands outwards from the stadium in its centre-north, gradually morphing into farmland. The city is on of the chief exporters of raw materials and textiles to Crescendo as well as serving as a midpoint for goods travelling out of Crescendo towards Quaver or Grave Town. Because there is little other entertainment here, the locals are particularly enthusiastic about both the Pro and Amateur Leagues, even by Unific standards which is why the lethargic and sleepy Siddhi, who has generally high popularity, is one of the least popular Pro League members here, despite it being the location of her gym and her generally high placement.

Grave Town
The aptly-named Grave Town is a large town by the northern coastline of the region. A spiritual place by nature and originally very small, the town has seen steady growth on account of its rich history and growing attendance of its many festivals and ceremonies honouring the dead, recent and of ages past - something more traditionalist locals are not pleased about as the sombre occasions are not meant for tourism. Cemetery Tower hold pride of place here, so the Stadium sits just outside the town.

Gym Leaders

Bruna (Bug)
Bruna is the fourteen-year-old Gym Leader of Dolce and the youngest person to currently be a part of the Pro League - although she has been outdone for the title of youngest ever. She is new to the position of leader, taking over for the previous Bug specialist who retired. She is friendly and very bubbly but tries her best to be professional and polite - not always with success.

Her Gym Challenge is a traditional Bug catching contest, nets and all. However, as a twist, several Ditto are hidden in the mix. To qualify to battle her, a trainer must successfully grab three actual Bugs.

Her battle is a 2v2 Single Battle.

Hawley (Poison)
Hawley is a man in his mid 20s and the Poison Leader of Marcato. In the past he often competed in the pro-seasons but in the last few years he's only really done his Leader work. Some speculate it's to preserve his ego as he never gets that far in the Pro Tournament. He has a cocky, confident and casual personality.

Hawley's Gym Challenge is notoriously difficult, requiring challengers to identify the footprints of Poison types in a pit of mud. To pass the challenge, you need to correctly identify five.

His battle is a 2v2 Single Battle.

Volante (Flying)
Volante is a young man in his late teens and the Gym Leader in Polyphony. Although genuinely kind, Volante is a very serious competitor and one of the few Gym Leaders to always compete in the Pro Season. He's a hard worker, finding great joy in putting his highest effort into every task. His battle's are fast paced and hectic, reflecting his lifestyle.

Volante's Gym Challenge isn't complicated, but it can be difficult. It is a battle royale of sorts between all the present challengers, each using only a single Pokemon. The trick is in the rules. Each challenger has three balloons stuck to them with the goal being to pop the balloons of the competition. Those who still have a balloon at the end can battle Volante. The struggle comes from not being allowed to use offensive Pokemon moves for risk of hitting one of the people running around.

Volante's battle is a 3v3 Single battle.

Marisol (Water)
Originally from Galar, Marisol quickly ascended to the Pro League after moving to Unific and shortly after took over the role of Water Gym Leader in Largo. Now in her late twenties, Marisol has grown accustomed to fame and basks in it, her personality having grown a little bit snooty compared to her more humble beginnings.

Marisol's Gym Challenge is often frightening for less steely challenges. Using borrowed Staryu and Starmie as guides and donning scuba tanks and masks, her challengers must navigate a dark underwater maze to enter the main stadium via a pond opening.

Marisol's battle is a 3v3 Single battle.

Tierra (Ground)
Tierra is in her early twenties and has been in the Pro League for a number of years, however she has only battled in the Pro Season twice, greatly preferring her Vivace Gym Leader role in helping others reach their own goals. In fact, becoming a Leader was the entire reason she became a Pro. Tierra is known to shy away from the fame that comes with her position, being shy and reserved. She's considered one of the kindest leaders and is very nurturing to her challenges - although she pulls no punches in battle.

Tierra's challenge is designed to improve the analytical skills of her challenges. In order to battle her, trainers must navigate a field of concealed pitfalls.

Her battle is a 3v3 Single Battle.

Ignacia (Fire)
Ignacia is a confident woman in her mid twenties and the Fire Gym Leader of Octave City. She is a fierce competitor and well known to have a very feisty and hot-headed temperament, although she's generally nice enough. She is a lover of theatre and music but in particular has a soft spot for Octave's growing Urban scene.

Ignacia's challenge is rather ironically geared towards keeping a level head, specifically because she knows it's something she struggles with. Her challengers must follow a series of dim torches through a thick smoke screen.

Ignacia's battle is a 3v3 Single Battle.

Vendaval (Electric)
Although he doesn't exactly look it, Vendaval is actually very polite and softly spoken, although not unconfidently so. Growing up in a rougher area, Vendaval was originally a bit of a thug and wasted his brains - something he is happy to admit to. He undertook the Gym Challenge later than most as the beginning of his path to redemption and, after coming second in the Challenge Cup, was selected for the Pro League as one of the PLA dark horse choices. Now in his mid-late twenties, he often volunteers at the power plant and frequently hosts talks and meetings for people growing up in similar circumstances he did.

Vendaval's Gym challenge is one of the least liked. It is an exam taken in private the day before he takes challengers.

His battle is a 4v4 Double Battle.

Duilio (Fighting)
For most Fighting type specialists, they grow their specialty out of an existing love for martial arts. For Duilio, it was the opposite. It was through training his Fighting types that he grew to love the discipline and artistry of combat, finding great inspiration in watching his Pokemon. This lead to him not only pursuing martial arts of multiple varieties himself, but developing a code of honour for himself based on fairness, discipline, integrity and hard work.

Duilio's challenge is for trainers and one of their Pokemon to roll boulders up a steep hill without damaging or destroying them. Only trainers that manage to get at least three of the boulders uphill qualify to battle him.

Duilio's battle is a best of three Single Battle. Switching is not allowed.

Siddhi (Psychic)
Sleepy, superstitious and always with her head in the clouds, Siddhi is not the sort you would think is actually a high level trainer. She even openly admits that she really only took this path on a whim because it seemed like something she should do. It would be unwise to underestimate her because of this however, because the reality is that she is a talented and creative battler.

Siddhi's challenge is simple enough, but can catch you off guard if you're not careful. Her challengers gather in a circle and release one of their Pokemon. The circle then walks clockwise until asked to stop. The challengers must identify the Pokemon they end up in front of without any sounds to give it away.

Siddhi's battle is a 4v4 Double Battle.

Chi (Ghost)
Chi looks exactly like you'd expect a master of the Ghost type to look: cold, brooding and mysterious. In actuality though, Chi cultivated this look specifically because that's what people kept expecting him to be - a little joke at everyone else's expense that nobody ever notices. In actuality, Chi's an amicable person with a witty personality and a strong sense of, often sarcastic, humour. He is a fan of scary movies.

Chi's challenge is one of the simplest in essence, you just have to make it through a haunted house without screaming, running away from anything or quitting. Unfortunately, unlike most haunted houses, the one Chi has constructed with the aid of his Ghosts is legitimately terrifying.

His battle is a 3v3 Single Battle.

If you want to know what the Gym Leaders look like, they're in left-right order at the very top of the page.

Team Reach

Team Reach, usually just called Reach, is a region-spanning collective of gangs that joined together under the Reach banner in order to pursue legitimacy for their organisations - and for a while they succeeded in becoming something of a legitimate conglomerate of social clubs for the poorer denizens of Unific. These days, while that premise is still a part of Reach Philosophy, most of their chapters have turned back to more criminal endeavours - now with a more vastly connected network - although there are those that still cling to legitimacy.

These days, many suspect that Reach has been absorbed into the folds of more sinister organised criminal enterprises, acting as the ground level, but there is little evidence to support this.

Sebas Suarez
Spoiler:
Sebas is from the Crescendo chapter of Reach originally, but has more recently become a fairly high-ranking roaming member of the organisation. At the age of 23, he has earned the attention of the law several times for his actions and has very little empathy for others. He comes first and taking care of himself is always his priority. He is ambitious, hoping to move into the higher ranks quickly.

Other NPCs

Cherry Torres (Unific Champion)
Spoiler:
Cherry is the 26-year-old Unific League Champion and hails from Largo City. She attempted the Amateur League twice, making it to the Challenge Cup in her first attempt but failing to secure a Pro League placing before winning the Cup in her second try. The group from that second run, which also included current Gym Leaders Hawley, Marisol, Ignacia and Chi, is widely regarded as the strongest over all Amateur League field of the past fifty years. People still talk about the famous final round battle between Chi and Cherry today.

Cherry herself is a bright and energetic woman, who thrives on battle and loves interacting with her fans. She has participated in more exhibition battles than any other Unific Champion and often hosts masterclasses or participates in various events. She is very well-liked for her dedication to her fanbase and hardworking and humble nature, much of the region adore her - even those that favour other pros. She is known for using a sun team in most battles.

Alonso Mora (PLA Chairman)
Alonso Mora is a prideful man, as one look at his perfectly presented appearance and immaculate grooming would make apparent. Every one of his gradually greying hairs is perfectly placed and his beard neatly trimmed, his latte skin is smooth despite his age and his grey suit somehow never has a speck of dust on it. In his mid-fifties now, Chairman Mora has never sort out the Pro-League himself. He was always preferred to experience the thrill of battle as a spectator more than as a participant and so joined the PLA at a young age, working as a referee at first, to help facilitate the same enjoyment for others. He is immensely proud of the prestige and cultural significance of both the Amateur and Pro Leagues and would die a slow and painful death before he willingly saw the name of either be besmirched.

Given his appearance and dedication to his work, you may assume that Alonso was a stern and serious man, but in actuality he is a jovial dreamer who enjoys the company of young and energetic people.

Johnny Park
A 19-year-old darkhorse challenger from Largo City who is largely popular with the trendy youth thanks to his awesome attitude, ego, and a signature style so awful yet so trendy it somehow works in the eyes of his fans. He's decking a consistently rotating wardrobe of Largo's trendiest duds, but always keeps on his over-sized, fluffy coat (of which he only wears one of the sleeves as some sort of fashion statement), his suave socks and sandals, a snapback cap embroidered with a Mantine Surfing graphic, and three pairs of sunglasses resting on the lid of his cap, each a different eye-blinding color that would probably be painful to wear for any extended period of time. Can't forget his signature high fade, curly brown cut and short beard, a style that's making a resurgence with teens in Largo as the current Amateur season starts back up.

Like the Unific Region's current beloved champion, last season he made it to the Challenge Cup before falling flat. The competition was stiff enough that not even the vocal fanbase he amassed from his homies in Largo was enough to push him into qualifying for the Pro League. This season, Jonny intends to rise from the ashes and claim the title of champion for sure this season, like Cherry Torres years before him. Despite these lofty ambitions, in truth, Jonny simply aspires to some day succeed Marisol as Largo City's Gym Leader, but keeps up the bravado and the dream alive for the sake of his fans.

His odd mannerisms and eccentricism aside, Jonny is a pure of heart guy, but can sometimes let the rush of battle go to his head.

This looks amazing, I might join, just need time to make a character. Alright, I got most of my SU done!, just need to finish up the Backstory and that's about it. I changed my characters appearance up a bit, but I kept the blonde hair and green eyes, sorry it its done so late!

Sachiko Kuchiki

Age: 14 Gender: Female Hometown: Dolce City

Appearance
Spoiler:

Sachiko has long sunflower blonde hair that reaches down to her hips, tied in a high ponytail most of the time, and forest green eyes. She has a bang that lands in-between her eyes and stops right above her nose, with bangs framing her face and then curving back a bit in the end, a small fringe is standing and curved a bit. She is about five feet one inch tall, is fair skinned, and kind of slim, her weight isn't told, but she has been told that she's light.
Her outfit consists of: a pink and cream colored shirt that is slightly ruffled, blue below-knee jeans, brown boots with small fat heels, a yellow-green handkerchief tied around her neck, and a straw hat on her head. Around her shoulders is a medium size bag, used as her travel pack.
Besides her everyday outfit, she has other outfits in her bag.
Her uniform during League Events is: a white and green t-shirt; a cream and yellow plaid pleated skirt w/ shorts underneath; white knee-length socks; and a pair of sandy brown colored sneakers.

Personality
Sachiko is a kind, caring, and friendly girl who cherishes her friends and remains of her family, but is quiet by nature. She will help out anybody in need, be it people or Pokemon, but her self-sacrificing kindness comes at a price. It causes her to ignore/neglect her needs and would help without complains, but if they start to abuse her kindness, she will step up and defend herself.
She is used to bottling up her emotions and will keep her problems to herself, not wanting to burden others with problems she deems as "its her responsibility". Due to her quiet nature and instinct to hide her feelings, she won't really show much emotions or expressions, being seen with a passive face, but there are times she will show a bit of emotion.
She won't hold grudges on people, even on those who have done her wrong, but that doesn't mean she will forget the deed, going by the motto "Forgive but never forget". That doesn't mean she doesn't hold grudges, she has been known to do so, just that it's rare, and she does it only if the deed is bad enough. There is one grudge she has, and its against the group in her dark past.
Sachiko is very hardworking, an independent teen, and dedicated to her goal, known to be intelligent due to her time studying and reading up books at home whenever she could.
Another aspect is her speech, she is soft-spoken and formal, but not many known due to her quiet nature and rarely speaks, many believing she is mute. She doesn't know much about socializing with others due to her dark past, her only communication was with her remaining family and partner Pokemon, so she prefers to keep her voice to herself.

Backstory
Sachiko is from Dolce City and comes from a large, but broken family. Her father disappeared, mother died from heartbreak, older siblings moved out, and her younger sibling is left with her.
She had to learn how to handle all the chores, to cook and clean to keep herself and her younger sibling up and moving. Luckily, her aunt heard about the news and moved down to take care of them and took up a job to support them.
Sachiko undertook the Gym Challenge because she wanted to prove herself to her siblings and be just like her mother, who was a powerful trainer in her time. She was endorsed by a ranking official that is a part of the Pokémon League Authority due to connections her Aunt has from living in the Unific Region years ago that are still strong.

Starter
picture.php

Momo the Grookey
Male || Grassy Surge - Scratch, Growl, Branch Poke, Strength(Egg), Acrobatics(TM), Grass Knot(TR)
Jolly Nature - Has a Sturdy Body
Momo is a cheerful monkey who loves to play with his stick and is always seen around Sachiko, either on her shoulders or on her head. Just like his primate cousins, he will become protective of her, he has a stick and isn't afraid to use it.

There's nothing wrong with your character concept as such, but I'm gonna need quite a bit more detail. Aim for a paragraph or two for appearance and personality, 2-3 for backstory. I'll put my own SU up today, so that might be able to give you an example of what I'm looking for.

Elleni Vargas

Age: 15

Gender: Female
Hometown: Vivace

Appearance: Elleni is on the shorter side, standing at 5'2" - although that's not that unusual for this part of the world - and has a thin build with angular features. Her skin is a fairly typical light golden-brown colour and free of any noticeable blemishes. Elleni's naturally brown hair is routinely dyed varying colours, her favourite look being a purple and red gradient. Her eyes are a blue-green colour.

Elleni's clothing choices tend to be more simplistic than her hair. Generally she wears a dark shirt with a matching skirt, shorts or jeans. She is rarely seen without her trademark denim jacket; a little tattered, with sleeves a little too long for her and a purple koffing silhouette on the side. She typically wears a red bit of silk loosely around her neck, similarly to a tie.

For her Amateur League uniform, Elleni dons a simple black t-shirt with her number, 107, on the back in purple and black shorts. She keeps her Pokeballs around her waist on a belt.

Personality: Elleni is, in a word, troubled. She is naturally a kind and outgoing person, but growing up poor in a rough Vivace neighbourhood has forced her to do things she is morally opposed to in order to get by. As such, her inherently personable self is often clouded by conflictions and misgivings causing her to shy away from people she would usually be inclined to talk to, although once you get her talking, she will generally revert back to her natural inclinations. Rather than examine her more negative thoughts, she chooses to push them aside and make justifications, doing her best not to think about the results of her actions.

Always the sort to stick by those close to her, Elleni has close ties to her family - especially her older sister, Lucia, and to her local community. She's the sort to put her own desires behind her for the sake of those people. What she really desires though, is a chance to start fresh and move on with her life.

This isn't to say that Elleni is totally selfless or unnaturally charitable. There's a hierarchy in her mind and while she isn't at the top of it, reserving that spot for the people she holds dear, she's not at the bottom of it either. Growing up in a rough neighbourhood, Elleni has street smarts and has learned to take care of herself.

Backstory: Elleni was born and raised in the southern city of Vivace, in a poorer part of the city where work didn't come easy and crime was prominent. When she wasn't weathering scorching heat and thunderous cyclones, she was dealing with the problems that came part and parcel with her life. Namely, poverty, crime and familial involvement with Reach. Her sister Lucia is a member of Reach, as are many other people she grew up with. Elleni herself is not an official member of the organisation, but has been involved enough with them in the past that she questions how true that claim really is.

Despite her misgivings, it would be wrong to say Elleni entirely regrets her involvement with the organisation. Reach have helped keep her family and community safe and afloat and she is prepared to continue to do what they ask of her so long as they continue to do so.

That being said, she worries her older sister has gotten in too deep, now being involved with deeper and deeper levels of the group and engaging frequently in illegal activity. There was a brief time when Lucia attempted the Amateur League, giving Elleni hope that they might be able to get out, but this hope was crushed by a defeat in the Challenge Cup and a return to normal life.

Now, Elleni is attempting to follow the same path her sister first took, beginning her journey alongside her Cubone, a gift received from Lucia herself. She received her endorsement after appealing to a member of the PLA with a connection to her family.

EDDIE "EDWIN" JONES

16 - Male - Fugue Village

His birth name is actually Eddie, but he introduces himself as Edwin because he thinks it sounds fancier.

APPEARANCE

(first of all, yes, he is absolutely supposed to look like the epitome of teenage cringe)

Edwin has a fairly average build all around, standing at 5'11" and is neither heavy or thin. He cares a lot for his appearance, spending more money than he should on clothing and haircuts. He is always watching trends from the bigger cities, and his current hairstyle has the sides shaved and the top left a bit longer. His hair is dyed blonde, but he can't always afford to touch up the color, so his natural brown hair shows sometimes.

He wears a wide variety of clothing, from plain tees and jeans to leather jackets and woolly sweaters. Whatever the article of clothing is, it is usually stupidly pricey designer outfits he orders from outside of Fugue, and he likes to think his style is tasteful, yet simple. For his League uniform, he had a custom purple and white tracksuit made. It has his name and League number printed on the back.

Spoiler: Uniform

PERSONALITY

A small-town boy with big dreams. On the surface, he can be a charming and suave gentleman, but he is quite a calculating individual, and does not make friends without a good reason, sucking up to those whom he thinks can help elevate his status in the world, and snubbing those he does not think as highly of. While he may look down on those he considers of a "lower status", he tries not to be outwardly mean, as that would reflect poorly on his own image, but he may distance himself from people he doesn't find worthwhile socializing with.

Because of this, he is actually quite eager to dissociate from his hometown, which he thinks is "poor, small and dirty", and he does not have many true friends in Fugue. Superficial and attracted to luxury goods he can't really afford, he has worked whatever small, odd jobs he can find, and almost always spends his paycheck immediately on nice clothes he orders online.

His insecurities about his social status cause him to lie a lot when he meets new people; he lies about his name, he lies about where he's from, and this often spills into other aspects of his life as he grows more comfortable with lying about who he is. Despite this, he is not actually as slick as he thinks he is, since he did grow up in a small village after all and his interactions with people outside of Fugue are limited to the rare travelers that pass through; those who socialize often will quickly see through his act, and he may even be intimidated by the real big-city folks he idealizes and tries so hard to emulate.

BACKSTORY

Edwin comes from a small family in Fugue. His father left when he was very young, so he lives with just his mother and younger sister (who is 14), both of whom he has grown very close to. Their bond is strengthened by how hard their mother had to work to raise them on her own. While he loves them both dearly, he considers them "simpler" people since they are content with their lives in Fugue and just hopes for health and happiness; they don't really understand his big dreams and eagerness to leave their village, but nevertheless, he hopes to be able to take care of them someday and buy them a larger home.

Their family business, if you can call it that, is growing and selling vegetables in their backyard. Their mother started this mainly as a means of putting food on the table (literally, they just ate the food they grew), but they have been able to sell their excess produce at the local market for some extra money, and when the kids grew up, they helped with this as well.

Edwin learned to grow medicinal herbs from their neighbours, as it is a common practice for the folks of Fugue. Since the Jones have no use for these herbs themselves (as they do not have any Pokémon), he picked it up as a hobby, but he had become quite adept at recognizing and growing herbs, as well as how to treat common ailments in Pokémon with herbal medicine. He would bring his herbs to the local lodge, on the surface as generous donations, but what he was really interested in was currying favour with trainers from other cities - one of his favourite hobbies is to just go down to the lodge and meet travelers, listening to their stories, learning about their Pokémon, and asking about their hometowns.

The big break Edwin had been waiting for finally came to his small village, in the form of a PLA-recognized pharmacological business, who had taken up an interest in studying and acquiring herbal cures of rural areas. Many young trainers had been turning to herbal remedies rather than potions, as they believe it to be more natural and safer, so this business was hoping to branch into that market as well for themselves.

Down by the lodge, the CEO was, of course, greeted by a very eager Edwin, and the man was indeed impressed with how he had managed to learn so much about Pokémon and how to treat them with herbal medicine just by growing plants in his backyard and talking to travelers. Although he had never battled before, the man saw a fire and potential in Edwin, and decided to endorse his participation in the Amateur League.

THEODORE

tumblr_p0m2ckbi1u1vhfdmio1_400.png

Ability: Overgrow // Moves: Tackle - Growl - Leafage - Peck - Shadow Sneak

Edwin christened his new partner with the most dignified name he could think of, but his sister refused to call him Theodore because "it's too pompous for a small bird" and promptly dubbed them "Teddy and Eddy" instead, with which he was not pleased.

Within the short amount of time they've known each other, Theodore has already adopted some of Edwin's traits, primarily the need to always look good and present himself well. He will often be preening his feathers, and enjoys being cleaned and groomed by Edwin. Edwin, in turn, adores his new Pokémon and believes they are destined for greatness together. They like to play dress-up, and Edwin is now, in addition to spending more money than he should on his own clothes, also spending money on clothing and accessories for Theo.

(all depictions of Theo in Rowlet form will be from the lovely blog Daily Rowlet)

Carmen Sylvia
16 years old - Female - Octave City

Appearance:
Carmen is a girl of about 5'5'' in height and even if she has a very thin body, she is totally healthy. She has latte toned skin, dark eyes, and long, curly, black hair.

She likes wearing formal clothes, especially white, long sleeved shirts and black formal pants. When she needs more comfortable clothes, she'll use strapless tops or short sleeved shirts and blue jeans.

Her Amateur League Uniform consists in a v-neck black and white t-shirt, with a design resembling a smoking, and a white 297 on the back and black shorts.

She always wears black boots, except with her League Uniform, where she wears sporty shoes.

Personality:
Back in Grave Town, she used to be a shy girl, so much that she didn't have any friends her age. Her father made her believe that she was useless and that everything she said or thought was wrong unless she agreed with him, whereas her mother only taught her to obey.

After moving with her aunt to Octave City, she started molding Carmen's character, into the decisive and proud girl she is now, but by giving her everything she desired, she also grew spoiled.

She tries to be polite with everyone, even with people she knows that don't deserve it. Her pride is both her strong and soft spot. She likes doing things her way and only her way, and doesn't like admitting when she's wrong. When she wants something, she grows obsessed with it and she's very competitive. If things go wrong, she loses all her motivation and she also holds a lot of resentments to a lot of people.

Even if she acts all tough, and sure about herself, the ghosts of her abusive father still haunt her at times.

Backstory:
Born in Grave Town, as the first and only daughter of an unhappy couple. Her father was an abusive, unsuccessful musician who wanted his daughter to follow a similar path and fill his broken dream of success. Her mother was a housewife who will never try contradicting her husband. Even if it was her dad the one who basically forced her to learn music, she never associated it with him.

Her life took a sudden turn when she was 12 years old. Her aunt came to visit Carmen's family saying that she'd like to take care of her from now on. She would use her connections to the PLA and Octave City's Orchestra to make sure she had a good education both as a trainer and a musician. Mr. Sylvia rejected the offer, of course, but for aunt Sylvia it was not his decision. She went to ask to Carmen herself in Requiem Forest, and she agreed with the condition of being able to take 'Presto' with her. She didn't miss Grave Town nor her family, but Requiem Forest still holds a special place in her.

Already in Octave, aunt Sylvia gave her everything. She had a big house, money, and beautiful clothes. Just as promised, her aunt gave her access to the best education in musical theory and Pokémon training, and signed her as a violoncellist in Octave's Orchestra, where she met her girlfriend, also a violoncellist, who aunt Sylvia received with open arms. She became a great violoncellist and a good soprano. Carmen had everything she ever desired and knew she deserved that and more.

It was before a concert, when her girlfriend got the role of the soloist instead of her that Carmen thought of herself again as someone that was not good enough. It was not a big issue for her girlfriend, but for Carmen, being the soloist meant everything. They broke-up. Even if her now ex-girlfriend didn't hold any resentment on her for that, Carmen couldn't say the same thing.

The break-up and losing her spot as a soloist made Carmen give up with music. Her aunt didn't like that and tried to make her reconsider, but it was useless. Aunt Sylvia realized she wouldn't be able to change the spoiled attitude she built in her, but she had another plan.

The endorsement arrived to her house, signed by one of her aunt's connections in the PLA. Aunt Sylvia talked about it with Carmen before. The girl was very reluctant at first, but she accepted after aunt Sylvia told her the journey could help her to clear her thoughts about what happened before and maybe get her old motivation back or either find a new one, but whatever she decided, her aunt will always wait for her at home.

Starter:

Noibat (Presto) | Male, met at Requiem Forest

Ability: Infiltrator
Moves: Supersonic, Leech Life, Gust, Double Team

Requiem Forest is a small, dark and cold forest at the eastern side of Grave Town. It is surrounded by old, tall trees and is home of various Ghost, Dark and bat Pokémon. It was Carmen's favorite place in the town and whenever things at her home in Grave Town turned dim (her parents being in a one-sided conflict, for example), she liked fleeing there with her cello and practice for hours to play her heart and tears out.

It was one summer, when the accelerated melody of her cello attracted a wild Noibat who she would befriend and visit (since their parents wouldn't let her have a Pokémon) from now on.

Just as his name implies, Presto is a very active Pokémon. He loves music, especially listening to his trainer's cello and singing. And even if he really didn't understand what happened, the Pokémon felt when Carmen decided to retire and was really sad because of it.

"If I need your help, I'll send ya a post card... Bugger off."

Janice Carter / Female / 16 Years Old / Fugue Village

JaQfZ4n.png

Appearance

Janice stands at a height of roughly 5'8" with a somewhat slender body build. Her platinum blonde hair reaches just down to the base of her neck, with rather messy looking bangs lining the sides of her face and forehead. Janice has pale, piercing emerald-green eyes that offset the way her face seems to be permanently set into a cemented scowl or glare more often than not. Janice sports a rather fair skin complexion, despite the fact that she seems to spend a great deal of time outdoors. She has a small tattoo of a silhouette of an Impidimp's head on her left wrist and a scar going down her left thigh.

In terms of clothing, Janice tends to dress in a style that makes many feel some what wary of her. She usually wears a pair of denim jeans on her legs, usually looking quite worn, with various tank tops on her chest. Leather is always a key factor in Janice's fashion. She tends to always wear either a vest or jacket made of the material, often being offset by a belt and various straps made out of the same material. A thick, leather, black choker is almost always wrapped around her neck, decorated with a silver, moon-shaped pendant dangling from the accessory. A pair of weathered, combat-styled boots are always adorned on her feet and a worn, black, knit stocking cap almost always worn on her head.

When in her league uniform, Janice wears a pair of black yoga pants with deep purple lining along the legs. Her top is covered a matching black tank top, with the number "113" printed on the back. Janice forgoes wearing sneakers with her uniform, instead choosing to keep her usual boots on her feet. Her choker still tends to be on her neck more often than not as well.

Personality

Many who meet Janice could easily say that she comes off as somewhat of a loner, an they would not be entirely wrong either. She carries herself as quiet, cold individual who never really brings herself forward to interact with anyone by choice, much preferring to be on her own than in the company of others. Janice has somewhat of a short fuse. It doesn't take long for something to get on her nerves, often resulting in her lashing out with various verbal and physical threats in an attempt to put the situations back in her favor.

Janice is one who prides herself in being self-reliant. The thought of having to accept aid from others makes her angry, and only causes her to push herself harder in an attempt to complete her goals. She isn't egotistical or above providing compliments where necessary. Janice is not afraid to admit if someone is better than her at something, but this also serves to help strengthen her resolve. When she does take the time to speak to others around her, Janice is brutally honest and blunt with her dialogue. If someone is offended by something she says or an observation she makes, then she merely views that as their problem and not her own.

In regards to her younger brother, however...

Backstory

Janice was originally born in raised Marcato City. She lived in a rather unkempt household with her alcoholic father, an abusive mother, and her younger brother. While growing up, times were quite difficult for Janice. Her parents were often arguing and fighting more often than not when they were both actually home. More often than not her father would be found at bars getting drunk off of his ass while her mother preferred to stay at home and spend most of her days either sleeping or abusing various substances. From a young age, Janice found it her responsibility to take care of her younger brother, Will, as well as what other various tasks that may have been forced upon her by her parents. They were very stressful times. More often than not, Janice was not even allowed to attend school, as she knew she simply couldn't leave her younger brother unattended.

Nights were always filled with anger. Her parents would often get into fights over the simplest of things, from topics ranging between who drank the last beer to why dinner wasn't ready to why they didn't just abort her younger brother when they had the chance. Janice, though she tried her best to always hide away or stay out of these situations, would often find their anger to soon be cast upon her. It didn't take much for the young girl to set either one of her parents off after their fights, which more often than not resulted in the blonde-haired girl sporting a new bruise, a cut, or black eye the next day. As time grew on, the tensions and violence seemed to only escalate. What's worse, is Janice herself felt her own dark emotions rising. She began to hate herself for not being able to help her parents... and at points even contemplated on merely running away and just... leaving it all behind. However, her mind would always quickly drift over towards Will. He was still young... still innocent... still impressionable. Janice knew that this kind of lifestyle was not suited for herself, much less that of a child who was barely four years old. So, the girl did the only thing she could think of.

She took Will and ran away into the night.

Being only fourteen at the time, Janice honestly had no idea where to go or what to do. Eventually, she somehow managed to wander to the village of Fugue, where the people seemed to have no qualms about taking her or her brother in. Of course, the quaint village wasn't a bastion of wealth... In fact in some regards the house that Janice and Will had escaped from were actually a step up. However, the two were finally free for all intents and purposes. Still, Janice knew that just because they had escaped for now did not mean that she and her younger brother were out of the woods yet. After all, they would need food, clothing and a proper shelter to call a home. Janice also longed to be able to provide for Will to be able to attend school, something she herself was denied during her own childhood. At first she had tried her hand in being an herb farmer, as was commonplace within the village... but the money that came in was hardly enough to feed the duo, much less provide anything else. It was at this point that Janice turned her attention towards the League Challenge. She had seen it on television back in her home in Marcato City. Her father even used to make numerous, albeit poorly picked, bets on the sport. The only problem was that she did not have an endorsement...

Thankfully, luck seemed to shine in the girl's favor. One day, a league official had been spotted passing through the humble village. Although not even a trainer, the girl practically begged the man on her hands and knees to offer her an endorsement so she could compete in the challenge. While initially unsure, the sheer determination and feeling the man could read off the normally stoic blonde's face was enough to change his mind. Of course, he didn't just hand her one for free. Rather, he offered the blonde a test to she if she was capable enough by having her attempt to catch a wild Pokémon. Janice agreed without hesitation... and before she knew it, the endorsement was hers.

Bennett Myrtle

Age: 14
Gender: Male
Hometown: Dolce City

Appearance

Bennett stands at a modest 5'2", and weighs around 105 lbs, slightly below the average boy his age. He has a lithe but healthy frame, with a naturally light skin tone kept in balance by a mixed lifestyle of being a hermit and sitting under the sun for a couple hours at a time. He carries himself reservedly, with a slight slouching problem because of it. He has long, platinum blond hair that is smoothly matted down and all goes to his neck, with one long bang often partially obscuring the right side of his face. Speaking of which, his facial features are soft, subtle, and childlike, with his emerald green eyes either giving an innocent glance or staring out into space.

His usual attire starts with a grey sweatshirt, a dark green scarf wrapped once around the collar and partially resting on his shoulders before one of the ends drapes down over his chest. The scarf will often be pulled up to partially cover his chin or mouth, tugging it down when going to speak and pushing it right back up when he's alone again. The waist of his sweatshirt goes over his denim jeans, and down further he wears a pair of white dress socks underneath a pair of black loafers.

Bennett's uniform consists of a standard white and and grey striped shirt and a pair of white shorts, both highlighted with a dark green and black line across his sides and shoulders. His trainer number, 229 (which also happens to be his birthday), is printed on both articles of clothing. He also wears a pair of athletic high socks and a pair of dark green and black cleated sneakers.

Personality

Very much not a people person, Bennett has only interacted with a small pool of people in Dolce City, most of them being surface level interactions while running errands. Bennett can hold a conversation if simple responses or small talk are the bulk of what's required of him. Anything greater is where the holes start to show. Conversations will have awkward breaks on his part as he blankly stares from trying to catch up on the situation, and he may stutter or verbally backtrack frequently, giving a false impression that he's scatterbrained or an airhead when it's more accurate to say that socialization isn't his strong suit. Subtler social cues, less than straightforward metaphors and the like will often go right over his head, and anything from miscommunication to minor inconveniences will have him apologize profusely.

Something about Pokemon, however, are infinitely more approachable to him. Little if any words are needed, and how a Pokemon is feeling or what they want is much easier to pick up on. During his childhood, his stepmother's line of work helped Bennett develop an acute sense for what a Pokemon is trying to communicate with their body language, but has yet to transfer that know-how over to humans.

He grew up sheltered and, while not exactly spoiled, was raised by a woman who didn't like to say no too often. As a result, Bennett has a naive, optimistic outlook of the world and despite his reservations and shyness, generally gives people the benefit of the doubt when first meeting them. While enjoying the companionship of his Pokemon, Bennett also genuinely wants to improve his social skills and make friends with people despite his shortcomings. He's vulnerable to being blindsided or otherwise manipulated due to this, if one's careful enough to not spook him off beforehand.

Backstory

Orphaned from a very young age, Bennett was born to a young couple in Dolce, out on their own in the world for the first time and in over their heads about starting a family together. After the couple suffered through financial issues, multiple jobs, and a strained relationship, the baby was given away to the local orphanage at a few months old. The couple years Bennett spent there were fickle, at least in the presence of people. Other babies just made him made him cry or fuss, and instead found comfort with the Happiny and Lillipup trained by the orphanage to be delicate and assist in care taking and providing alternative playmates for very young children. It was one fateful day when the then four-year-old child was adopted by an all-loving woman that studied Pokemon, Professor Grace Myrtle.

A colleague of Professor Oak's from the far away Kanto region, she had been continuing his study of the relationships between people and Pokemon in the Unific region for the last three years. Despite this, Grace isn't Unific's most well-known researcher by any means, and certainly doesn't hand out Pokemon to fledgling trainers, that's likely somebody else's job. She instead keeps to herself in a decent-sized single-story flat at the lower level outskirts of the city's residential area, and her "lab" is a guest room she emptied out to place her workstation and computer. Grace was going into her mid-thirties when struck by a mid-life crisis, finding herself lamenting how she didn't have a spouse or a kid of her own yet. After the last year or so of dating proved to be a fruitless endeavor, she looked into the alternative solution of adoption. The Dolce City Orphanage would introduce her to a shy, feeble Bennett, who while no longer throwing tantrums in their presence, was still intimidated by new people. While initially struggling to get him to engage with her, introducing him to her partner, Rosetta the Chatot, helped Bennett open up and accept her as his new stepmother.

Bennett was initially to be sent to a public school, but he grew to heavily rely on Rosetta to talk to new people, whom couldn't afford to spend the school day with him when Grace needed her assistance back home. Grace pushed for him to attend on his own anyways, but the meltdown he had on his first day guilted her into homeschooling him instead. He'd spend his younger days playing with the wild Bug and Grass Pokemon that would gather on their porch, some of Rosetta's own Pokemon, and some of the Pokemon she brought home to study. Sometimes, she'd even let him play with a Pokemon for the purpose of her research, but in every case kept the boy away from most evolved Pokemon or Pokemon near his size for his safety. The older he got, the more often Grace would have her stepson help her with her work more personally, running errands (with Rosetta's guidance and supervision, of course) and becoming as much her assistant as he was her stepson.

After he turned eleven, Bennett developed a greater appreciation for competitive Pokemon battling, finding himself at first baffled, but then mystified by the synergy between a trainer and their Pokemon on display and caught as many league matches on TV that he could. It was the kind of bond he grew envious of and wished to achieve himself, eventually begging his stepmother for a Pokemon of his own almost every week leading up to his twelfth birthday. Come the fateful day, Grace would take Bennett to the Pokemon Nursery for a Pokemon he could call his own, where (despite the concerns and initial disapproval of his stepmother) he found his new best friend, a spry little Jangmo-o.

Any of the local Pokemon that would allow him, he'd do sparring battles with them for practice, with some rocky results due to his partner's defiance to being commanded how to fight. A PLA representative would show up in Dolce one day, scouting some new talent for the Amateur League, the stars had aligned! Bennett asked his stepmother if he could go see if he could make it in... and she said no. The Gym Challenge wasn't for the faint of heart, much less the Challenger's Cup. He was still a kid, and wasn't the type she could trust to make it out on his own across Unific. After much begging and bargaining, his bleeding heart of a stepmother gave in and decided to at least give him a chance.

The following week, the PLA representative gathered all the young trainers that came to them at the local park, where they competed in a round robin to prove their mettle. Bennett placed decently, with three wins but five losses. Despite this, two factors made him one of the lucky few granted an official endorsement; his Pokemon of choice was seen as a powerful species that could significantly close the skill gap from his inexperience, which had time to catch up before that perk wouldn't carry him, and the request of Professor Myrtle shortly after all the other endorsements had been handed out. Grace had guilted herself into giving Bennett that extra push he needed to qualify, due to her connections with the PLA that partially funded her work and residence in Dolce City.

His stepmother spent whatever amount of time Bennett had before he had to leave home extensively preparing him for the trip ahead; packing him clothes, snacks, a survival handbook, and unable to stress enough how she wanted him to make sure to call her every day, if he could.

Bennett promised he'd do his best.

Jingles the Jangmo-o

♂ / Soundproof / Met at Dolce Pokemon Nursery / Bold nature / Somewhat vain
Dragon Tail, Headbutt, Protect, Uproar, Counter

When a Pokemon Ranger surveying the sierra between Dolce and Fugue discovered a brood of Jangmo-o eggs and the body of a Kommo-o mother that had succumb to wounds from a harsh battle over territory, the hatchlings were relocated to the Dolce Pokemon Nursery to be given to trainers willing to give them a home. The runt of the litter was slightly smaller than the average specimen by a couple inches, but while the others were naturally dignified, this Jangmo-o was not. He would incessantly shake his metallic scales in a plea for attention, and then gnaw on any article of clothing he could get his snout on in an attempt to assert dominance.

His unruly behavior compared to his more trainer-friendly brothers and sisters meant they all were adopted before he was, and he ended up being the only Jangmo-o left when a boy and his stepmother visited the nursery in search for a Pokemon to adopt. Bennett found the Jangmo-o's mannerisms endearing and fell in love with him, but Grace was, rightfully so, having reservations about taking a Dragon type Pokemon home as a pet. But since he required extensive battling to evolve even once that a household Pokemon would never partake in, and was scrappy but ultimately harmless as is, she and Bennett welcomed the scaly Pokemon into their home.

Jingles was named for the noise his scales made and how often he shook or smacked his metal-like scales to get attention or otherwise express himself. He proved to be a little scrappy and mischievous, often scaring off all the Pokemon that would gather on their porch in the morning or pulling on his owner's pant leg with his chomper to get him to play with him. In some ways, Jingles is the yin to Bennett's yang, being brash and not afraid to bring attention to himself. As they both head out into the world for the first time, Jingles wants to help his trainer overcome his social adversities and get into some fights to show off his power all the same, not afraid to speak, bark, or jingle his mind.

I'm almost done with my SU, but I'm just posting this just to let you know, GP. Here you go, as usual... I'm sorry, really sorry, I'm too lazy to make a sign-up CSS.

Name: Matthew "Matt" Callista
Age: 16
Gender: Male

Appearance
WZclAapm.png

Matthew stands at 5' 9", his body is toned as he often does exercise especially running. He usually wears a black shirt with a blue and white striped tie. He also wears a black pants with a white belt, while for his footwear he wears dark blue sneakers with black laces. Matthew almost never sighted without his glasses as without it he can't see very well. For his league outfit, he wore a black polo shirt and white short pants with a black colored Pokeball logo on the right side of the pants. To complete his look, he also uses a black bandana with a white Pokeball logo and his usual sneakers. His league number is visible on the back of his polo shirt.

Personality
Matthew is a cheerful man. He loves to make friends and make jokes, even if his jokes sometimes fell flat. He tries hard to hide the hot temper he had since his childhood and tries to understand the other side as much as possible. However, if someone is already acted out of line with him or people he acquaintanced with without a reason he's not above using sharp words and his fists. He learned a lot of housekeeping activities from his maid and Helen which made him quite proficient at it, he especially likes cooking. Matthew was taught from his early years by his parents that hard work will eventually bear fruit and has held that motto since a long time ago, that is also his approach with Pokemon as he believed that constant training and innovation in tactics will win the day. Matthew is also a man who loves to plan contingency plans for a lot of different situations. But if it fails in the end, he would fall into a panicked state. He is not very good at reading maps and directions and also clumsy at times.

Background
Matthew was born in Castelia City as the only child to a hard-working family. Both of his parents worked in a company in Castelia so Matthew spent most of his time with a maid who was often at mercy of his pranks. One day, due to his boredom he decided to vandalize the wall of his neighbor, but the old lady named Helen who lived in the house next to him realized this and chided him for his misbehavior. He and Helen eventually grew closer and closer where they eventually spent most of their time together watching Pokemon battle on the TV and she also taught him a lot in a whole lot of different things especially Pokemon training since the old lady didn't have anyone to accompany her in her house except her young Hatenna. Matthew watched the battles with awe and swore that one day he'll be a great trainer. One day, the old lady fell gravely ill and Matthew accompanied her in her last moments, in her last moments the lady asked Matthew if he wanted to follow her footsteps as a Pokemon Trainer. Matthew was more than willing to do that, and with it, he was entrusted with her Hatenna and contact of a friend of the old lady, she said that he had to work his best if he wanted to succeed in a professional level. Not long after that, she soon passed away.

Matthew eventually had to confess to his parents about what he wanted to be in the future. His family vehemently opposed his intention and told him to chase a steadier occupation instead. Slowly but surely, he finally managed to convince his parents to let him go on a journey of his own. With one step finished, the next one was the contact. He contacted the number owner and found out that it was a contact of a current ranking official in PLA, with it he managed to convince the man to meet him at Castelia later in the month since the man had some business to finish at the city that date. It was a nerve-wracking meeting, but Matthew managed to convince the man that he'll do great in the Amateur League, and so his journey begins.

Log 1

I have experimented with a lemon today.
I tried making a electric can opener with it.
It fell apart, but it smelled refreshing.

CRAZY SCIENCE LADY
Madison Bloom
Age: 16

Appearance
Madison is 5'4'', a not too tall, not too short person for her age, who also weighs about 95 pounds, about the average weight for a girl her age. Madison has a light toned skin color, which isn't too light so that she would burn easily, but also not too dark as well. She has long, brown hair, which she naturally keeps it fresh, and healthy by washing it often. Her hair reaches to her upper back, which could also be stuck out beside her shoulders. Madison would sometimes add beige-colored streaks and lining on her hair, just for a little style. Some might call it weird, but hey, she likes it. She likes to put eye-liner on her hair, but not lipstick; she thinks its absolutely atrocious to wear. Her nose isn't big at all; its fairly small, but still noticeable. For a usual outfit of hers. the main clothing she most of the time wears, is her white scientific lab coat, one she wears all the time. Underneath her white lab coat is a black t-shirt, which has a yellow star on the center of the shirt as its main design, that is complemented by small light blue star designs. She also wears a light blue skirt that is designed with dark blue stripes, that is designed to go vertically to the end of the skirt.

Her uniform is a track suit that is all white with blue stripes that go on the side of her track pants and shirt. Her tank top is a fully-matching colour blue, with the number 54 on the back of her shirt. She also wears blue running shoes, and as for her hear, she ties it up back into a ponytail. The yellow star she wears normally is kept on her shirt.

Personality
She is energetic, and determined as much as eccentric, but above all else, she is a woman who has a mind that is always filled with curiosity -- who turns to science for answers. Madison has a very logical mind, believing that there is nothing science cannot explain, even if it takes a long time for science to properly understand any one thing. She believes in an ideology to learn everything, and to test everything. She loves to induct the craziest of science experiments and test the wildest of theories, treating life and the world if it was her own personal scientific laboratory. For example, even when it comes to terms to general cooking, she would turn the most lop-sided, uncoordinated foods into a meal that's never even created. When it comes to pokemon, she is very much interested in them. Instead of relying on books, she would much rather go out to interact with pokemon first hand.

As a socialist, she can come across as manipulative and arrogant, but her arrogance does not cloud her judgement. She can be known to bend rules, and manipulate others for her own benefits, but beneath of it all lies a caring and honest heart who works for the benefit for those who really need it.

Backstory
Madison never knew her biological father or mother. She was adopted by a humble man from an orphanage in Segno Town, and ever since, the only family she had ever known was that very man who had adopted her. As it turns out, her adoptive father was a scientist in Crescendo. After bringing her to her new home in the big city, Madison slowly adopted to her new home. Throughout her childhood, she would enjoy reading books about pokemon with her adoptive father. The books she read would include pictures of trainers, and pokemon, working along side each other in battles and overcoming different obstacles. Madison dreamed that someday, she too will have her own pokemon, and go off on a journey.

Madison's curiosity and mind grew as she grew older. It blossomed when her father allowed her to visit his work one day. What she saw was truly staggering; there were all sorts of people, conducting many tests while interacting with many pokemon. She all sorts of equipment that they were using, and mountains of books that provided many aspects of knowledge for them. While the many different activities they did in the main hall of the science center were enthralling, there was something that tipped the iceberg for her. The space research they did. Madison learned that space was an unknown frontier. It was said that space holds many different unknown questions. Are we alone in the universe? What exists in deep space? And many more questions. Madison's eyes gleamed. That's when she decided - it was when she began a new faze in her life.

Science began as a newly found passion for her growing up in the years to her current age. She would take the time to read her adoptive father's books, and sometimes even applying some small scientific abstracts to her everyday activities. it all started with a simple science experiment she did in the kitchen, seeing how long water would boil until it evaporated. She learned as much as she could... and tried as much as she could. Even so, she worked hard to try and reach her main dream. Someday, she will become an astronaut and go into space, and see what marvels and answers to space that could only come from space exploration.

With her adoptive father looking on to how much she's grown and her new calling in life, he wanted to help her out. Thanks to his connections with the space center, he had the CEO write Madison an endorsement; one that would allow her to compete in the Amateur League. After all, for her to become a space explorer, she must also be strong. While her dreams of journeying expanded upon space, her primary dream as a child was to travel the world in a pokemon journey as well. Therefore, she agreed to take on the challenge, to become the strongest and sharpest she can possibly be for her future.
