@Loki: VERY GOOD POINT. I'll dunk that character then. /remov'd

As for the function of these characters: It just didn't make very much sense inside my head that there would only be four people in a band of mercenaries, especially since none of them seem entirely predisposed to actually start one.

... I suppose that was one too many, though. 8|

Alternatively, Rhys can be the supreme leader-type figure (y/n?). As long as he has the motivation for it, this would remove the need for Cyrus and Dana (unless you still want extra characters that accompany you).

EDIT: Okay, never mind; I have a use for Cyrus now (and a very interesting use it is, too).

To be perfectly honest I really only had a beef with Gerar, particularly since Rhys won't be very interested in interacting with the other two characters in the first place. He's certainly not a leader type however, so yeah, best to be keeping Cyrus. XD

Name: Fiora Lucilia Cenelys
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Personality: Characterized by a refined composure and an unflinching gaze, Fiora exemplifies a quiet sophistication and majesty that is often only found in the bloodlines of long-standing aristocratic families. Appearing to possess a sanguine outlook towards the world around her, she outwardly expresses a recurrent cheerfulness, and acts with plaisance and courtesy alike in social situations in regards to those that she is not particularly familiar with. While she may seem to be rather likeable because of these traits, she is in fact a much more sharp-tongued and critical character in private life, more demanding than not with her words and very condemnatory with respect to anyone who is unlucky enough to become the subject of her ire. Highly capricious and mercurial in her behavior, she might be entirely satisfied one moment and yet vehemently cynical the next; though she has a certain set of expectations for those she knows well, no one is quite sure what they constitute, and her advice to others is often very vague.

Supremely confident of herself and her abilities, she exudes an aura of imperious command. Although not an individual that would be classified as extremely talkative – in fact largely reserved, in spite of her exacting nature – she nevertheless manages to impress upon others, with only a few words, what actions she requires of them with perfect forthrightness; this is, perhaps, a variety of egoism, but she walks with a resolute self-righteousness that is difficult to dispute, and in any case, her judgment is usually not impaired enough for her to issue directives to those who would take offense at it or otherwise be noncompliant. Preferring to lean towards concision rather than verbosity, she states her intent with only a few words, but does not differ very much from others on the total number of statements made.

Contrary to her ephemeral form and neatness of style, however, she has a tendency to become somewhat nervous when the situation at hand spirals out of predictability; her normal impassiveness and clarity is shaken when under abnormal circumstances, and almost seems to dissolve entirely under immense stress; she retreats into a kind of awkward silence, stunned by uncertainty and doubt. Yet, her overall personality has not yet abolished its few fragments of innocence, and her mind, though somewhat alien compared to those of ordinary people (like that of all clairsentients), still retains a rare fairness that only remains because of her sheltered upbringing.

Appearance: Graceful without seeming particularly delicate, Fiora's physique is well-defined and her features, smooth. Free-flowing hair, a shimmering spectrum of lightly aureate - almost sterling - strands, cascades down past her waist; parted into two in the front, they toss about in a carefree way, their only restrictions being a crimson bow, loosely tied at the back of her head in order to impart some shape and semblance of organization to her locks, and a velvet half-beret, placed at an angle at the crown of her head. Her skin is a pale cream, and her hands, gossamer-like, reach out lightly but strongly towards whatever she happens to be paying attention to at the moment. Her eyes are a clear, perceptive sapphire, representative of her personality, and brim with determination. A self-assured smile hangs on her lips perpetually, at times a sign of mockery and others, of encouragement.

Shrouded in glowing azure, accentuated with vivid garnet, Fiora's attire is exquisitely designed and capably woven. A two-layered cerulean taffeta dress with a threefold hem, the lowest of which reaches down to her ankles, is her outermost garment; adorned with short Juliette sleeves and bordered with gold thread, its translucent color sets the tone for the rest of her clothing. The petticoat beneath, fabricated from burgundy satin, exhibits a glossy sheen, and seems to add something which is at once harmonious and discordant with the blue of the dress; a hint of emotional intensity and passion, perhaps, or the invisible implication of a storm of rose petals. A brilliantine corset, clasped with ornate fasteners, sits at her waist, though it does not look extremely uncomfortable, being only sparsely reinforced by ivory, and thus is mostly cloth. Beneath her dress, she wears a simple white linen chemise, decorated with patterns of clusters of snapdragons and freesias.

Other minor articles serve as garnish to her ensemble; chiefly among them in importance of function are a pair of ultramarine leather platform shoes, a fashionable pair of footwear and a useful booster of her apparent height alike. A brooch at her neck, gold inlaid with blue tourmaline, holds the mantle part of her dress in place. A platinum necklace, decorated with shards of chipped ruby, is hidden beneath her dress's mantle and out of view most of the time; it holds a certain degree of significance for her, and its pendant - a resplendent faceted carving of a phoenix from pyrope garnet, remarkably free of impurities - is a rather conspicuous sign to others of her heritage, being also found on the heraldic crest of her house. Finally, a silken rose is often found in her hands, or in one of her pockets; an otherwise ordinary object, this serves as a focus for a few of her specific applications of arcana, having been imbued with various lengthy incantations to shorten their casting time.

Background: The only daughter of Lord Marcus Herenius Cenelys and his wife, Elaine Menesthia Cenelys, and thus the sole heiress of House Cenelys, Fiora was born into a position of great power, though perhaps not a position that many would truly desire, if they understood the risks. She had a peaceful childhood; the Cenelys estate was vast, and she had essentially free rein over its grounds, so naturally she put it to good use by spending her hours frolicking among the fragrant wildflowers. However, beginning at the age of six or so, she began to exhibit signs of clairsentience, that psionic art which often drives its users into insanity and a gift (or a curse, depending on one's perspective) that has been passed down the House's bloodline, though its occurrence is not particularly frequent. Marcus recognized its signs immediately, and sought out a Nemaesian scholar of renown and professor at the Collegium Magiae, Darien Asmaris. The mage bestowed upon the girl a single gift, a pyrope garnet in the shape of a phoenix, and bid her parents keep it close by her in order to suppress the madness that would often surface in practitioners of clairsentience; in addition to this, he presented them with two options – either keep the girl's gift dormant, and teach her another magic; or else develop it and in time come to learn to embrace it. Her parents chose the former, knowing fully well that though the latter might grant her great power, it will also eventually lead to her undoing. Darien acquiesced, and set the gemstone into a platinum pendant – having the appearance of an heirloom only, it serves as a seal of sorts.

Life returned to a semblance of normality, and Fiora was happy for a time; a tutor was hired to school her in mathematics, grammar, and the arts, but she was left to her own devices a great amount of the time. Thrilled at being allowed by Elaine to peruse whatever she wished to study, she became increasingly interested in the performance of music after sampling a wide variety of disciplines; however, her period of intensity lasted but two years – music is a cruel pursuit, and her fiery energy and consuming eagerness had been worn away by the relentless practice and grueling exercises that were the lot of a musician. Though even many of the untalented force themselves along the path, it is far too much to expect of an eight-year-old girl to possess such determination, and her desire to produce music had faded away, replaced by an unwillingness to interact at all with the outside world. Worried about their daughter's well-being, Marcus and Elaine consulted their close friends; and so, one misty morning in early Meselo, a violet-robed, dark-haired woman appeared on the doorstep of the Cenelys mansion, with a large triangular case containing some sort of instrument slowly following – Thalassa Azorea, a famous harpist and a former schoolmate of Elaine's, had taken an interest in the family's plight. Elaine's verbal efforts at persuading a meeting were futile at first, but unbeknownst to anyone else, Thalassa had been present at one of Fiora's earlier recitals, and had sensed remarkable ability and talent from the girl; persistence, thankfully for all parties involved, eventually provoked a reaction from the then-withdrawn Fiora, and after hearing about the identity of the musician in front of her, she agreed tentatively to become her protégée for a time.

Thalassa was a teacher with very high standards, though not by any means unkind; she strived to become an exemplar of excellence in all that she did, regardless of any particular difficulties. The young Fiora was inspired by her personality, and the two developed a very close relationship, akin to that of one between mentor and pupil; they would meet twice every month on the afternoons of the first and thirteenth days, under the colorful awning of a tea shop by the name of The Sparkling Marzipan, and often the two would simply enter into casual conversation instead of focusing on music-related topics. It is not a coincidence that behind many great successes, there are masters who have passed on their knowledge, experience, and wisdom in a positive way to their disciples, and under Thalassa's guidance, Fiora developed the skills necessary for her to be recognized by society. As she continued with her studies and grew older, she began to accumulate a variety of awards, culminating in an invitation to become an orchestral performer for concerts funded by the emperor, an enthusiastic patron and dilettante of the arts. As an artist financed by the imperial treasury, Fiora was able to travel across the entirety of Helvenand, gaining experience and knowledge as she did so that could not ordinarily be accumulated through practice and self-improvement alone; when she returned to her home in the capital a year later, her skill much-enriched, she began to rise in popularity quickly as a young virtuoso. Surpassing in beauty as well as aptitude, she garnered a large amount of adulation from the populace. With fame, however, comes unwanted attention as well; five months prior to the present, during the widespread chaos in the capital during Caspenalia, some of her personal effects were lost, among them a certain piece of jewelry – it is still not known whom the perpetrators were. Since that time, she has begun to experience, at times, strange psychological phenomena; when queried about this by her father, Darien would only offer her a garnet with the exact same appearance as her previous, and a cryptic piece of advice: in order to find the answers to the questions posed by her visions, she would have to travel in the direction indicated by the gem he has given her.

Name: Isaac Aristos
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Personality:

Isaac's personality has undergone massive changes during the time he spent attending to the... needs of his family. As an adolescent he was a rogue with passion and guts but with respect for innocent lives; now he has developed into a selfish and arrogant assassin, disregarding the discipline his family had taught him. He holds his talent above people's heads and is utterly convinced that he is right and knows what's best to accomplish the task he is given. Isaac is cunning, ruthless, and stubborn; he never gives up and will do anything to secure his success - be it a mission or an argument.
An accurate characterization from the scope of his family would be "dedicated, determined, and deadly". He is serious and focused, but that is merely because he was raised to be like that. Although his attitude provokes others to see him as coldhearted, he believes that helping people by any means possible is his job, not only his choice. This is because once he was deemed worthy of being called 'Aristos'; he was entrusted with the family's ideals, goals, and dreams of a peaceful world that would prosper - all of those things naturally passed down to him.

Isaac is silent; he speaks fasts and only when required to - sadly, it takes a lot of effort to get close to him because he prefers to be alone and doesn't enjoy the presence of others. He is loyal to those who he considers friends and would gladly work with people that would help his cause. Still, he does not let anyone know what he is fighting for - resulting in many people considering him a brutal killer that hungers for gold and personal glory, a coward for wearing the grey cloak and the hood. In truth, though, he is sensitive and strives for the better world of his dream, claiming that small sacrifices for preserving the free will of man are required and cannot be avoided by any means. He is particularly disgusted by the abuse of power and contemplates assassinating those responsible for the people's grief, and he will viciously do so.
Due to the time he has spent doing this job, Isaac has developed in a truly skilled observer - a patient, talented and calculating assassin - but he has also become defiant towards his employers. He takes great pride in assassination and always seeks new ways of practicing it.

He does not naturally trust people, as he considers them "as foolish as vegetables and as blind as lambs." Little people have gotten to know him fully, and those people would characterize him as a delicate soul with no temper at all- someone who is driven solely by the sense of the greater good and devoted and faithful to his cause. They also describe him as a "realist" and a "cynical person," which contrast his dream of a united world, impossible as it seems.

As for Isaac's battling style, it is rather unique; he is extremely agile and fast, despite wearing a cloak. He considers those who engage in a fight with him already dead; he will ignore any pleadings for mercy. He believes in the phrase his uncle told him over and over again: "No quarter for the wicked." Since those opposing him are the enemies of his vision, he will have to kill them. He claims death is a casual part of his job, and that he has gotten used to it, although he would prefer to avoid staining his blade.
Despite being remarkably intelligent and capable of strategic approaches on his victims, he prefers to use surprising, brutal force against them.

Appearance:

If Isaac were to remove his hood, one would see a toughened face with round cheeks, a nose with a perfect shape, no facial hair at all, deep dark blue eyes, and dense, short, black hair. Normally, all one can see from his expressions is his smile, if they are extremely lucky, and some of his usual frown. Isaac's body is well built; his body structure is particularly flexible and muscled, allowing him to run very fast, do spectacular acrobatics (when he is not wearing his armor) and also perform what we call 'free running'.

Those who look at Isaac, they see a hooded traveler with peculiar clothes standing at 6'2''. He is wearing a dark grey cloak with a hood, a giant belt with two layers of 'flags' that race down his cloak, leather gloves and boots. On his left shoulder hangs a white fur, accompanied with a grey cape that barely covers his entire hand and back; his belt bears the blazon of Aristos family (a leaf) on its center, has a small bag containing his belongings on the back and multiple sockets for his knives on each side.
Two shoulderpads on top of each other protect his right shoulder; they are made from light, shiny plate, like the rest of his armor - chestguard, vambraces and greaves, all with dragon-like patterns on them.

Spoiler:

Background:

Isaac Aristos was born into a mercantile family of Perinth which resided in Calis city, but he was sent away to the forest with his uncle at a very early age. Basically, from his childhood, he does not remember his family, but only a green and peaceful resort and an old man: uncle Phylax. Phylax raised Isaac as he was his own son; he taught him how to write, read, and draw. As he grew up, Isaac proved to be very athletic; he would run around the forest, catch small animals using only his hands, climb up to the tallest of trees to enjoy the view of the nearby mountains, and race with the wolves, whom were surprisingly friendly towards him.
When Isaac reached ten years old, Phylax started teaching him all he could about the world: magic, alchemy, geography, anatomy and politics. He spoke to him about the secret of the Aristos family; they were assasins dedicated to preserving the free will of the people of Calis and also protecting them from the economic conspiracies of their merchant enemies.
Isaac had no trouble believing that, as his understanding of the world was limited due to the isolated life in the forest. He trusted his uncle more than himself; he was always admiring his uncle's knowledge and might. Phylax, knowing he could speak freely with his nephew, told him that the family had sent him into the forest for training purposes. Surprisingly, the word "parents" did not mean anything to Isaac, so he was not curious at all to see his parents. They were simply strangers to him; he had absolutely no feelings for them.

As Isaac grew up even more, he had mastered the forest; he was as silent as his friends, whom were the animals that lived in that forest. His uncle saw his potential as a dedicated hunter, but he decided to set him into another direction: the one of the fighter. He started practicing sword fighting with Isaac, aiming to pass down all of the martial arts he knew to his nephew. Isaac showed great talent with the blade; he excelled so much. His uncle was unable to keep up with him after two years. During this time his mentor started teaching him the art of assassination as well. At age seventeen Isaac was ready to take his first task. Meanwhile, his family had deceased, leaving Isaac and his uncle the last Aristos' alive.
Phylax sent him at a friend's house in Calis, where he would be assigned with his first job: two salt merchants planning something which Isaac never understood. He was successful anyway, assassinating the merchants. He caused too much fuss when he killed them in public, though; when he returned to the small, wooden house he was living all these years, he found his uncle brutally murdered with a note that claimed the Aristos' should never mess with the Ancelotti merchant family.

Isaac, angered by the murder of his mentor, took the vendetta personally and moved to the majestic palace in Calis that was rightfully his. From there, he tracked down all of the relatives of both the merchants, whom appeared to be brothers, and then started assassinating them one by one. The whole family of Ancelottis left Calis after Isaac had taken down 4 of them; he had learned that none of those he had killed were responsible for his uncle's death. He gave chase to Sinope Lake through the desert of Gerasa until, finally, motivated by his vengeful intentions, he caught up to them in the Asturican Mountains, where he forced them to fight him. Only when he killed everyone, he settled down, wounded and amongst the dead bodies of his enemies.

He was extremely lucky to be found by an old woman whom was living nearby whom took care of him. She believed he belonged to the group of dead travelers that were assaulted by thieves; Isaac did not let her know he was the murderer of them all. He simply asked how to go to Ticinum, thinking that was a suitable place to find a job. The old woman informed him of a way through the mountains and the swamp.
When Isaac reached Ticinum, he was surprised to find it even worse than he ever expected. The citizens were as sinister and dark as the city itself, which was covered in smog; Isaac deemed this as the perfect environment for him
. He proved more than capable of dealing with the rogues and thieves. Eventually, he claimed an abandoned house as his hideout and settled down there. He planned his well-paid schemes in that hideout; his income every week was massive but cared little about that. Ticinum was very "busy" for his taste, as he was used to living the peaceful life in the forest.
He needed to set his mind in one place; the need for revenge for his dead uncle had clouded his thoughts of a better world. Now, his dreams had begun rising up in the surface again, and he realized that assassinating criminals would not be enough. S
o he came to the great decision to become a mercenary.

Hello everyone,

A brief update on what is happening with me and this RP... seeing as nobody has posted here for two weeks. I'm going through an intense period of schoolwork, colloquially known as "summatives" ... lest I lose an excessive amount of marks, I must contribute most of my time into the perpetual war effort against my teachers' red pens. My music assignment has proven particularly devious and difficult to complete, and that is the main reason I have been tied up. (I can, um, exhibit my composition afterwards if there is demand for it, but I suck at translation... =[)

I know you've probably grown too tired to hear this, but there's going to be another delay, sadly ... until the end of this weekend probably. That's when I should be finished all my music.

In that case I should let you know that next week is my dead week aka the week before finals, so while I will be around, I'll probably only produce one post at the most between the end of this weekend and June 16th.

Of course, my procrastination is quite impressive, so this may not be the case, but just letting you know that I may or may not fall off the face of the planet.

That is quite acceptable, since I've been falling off the planet for two weeks already ... this needn't move very quickly, either (and it's probably not going to).

.. Am I the only one who still studies for finals and STILL has time for RPing? lol

I'm always free, it's no problem waiting a little bit more, man.

I would be able to do both if my finals weren't 60%-70% of my final grade. Lol-- but like I said, I'm better at procrastinating than I am at studying, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

First post is taking a while to write, but it's almost done. I feel like I'm not writing enough, but oh well. (It's mostly the characterization that's making me write slowly...)

The first post has been completed and submitted. The game can begin, now, and I can finally breathe a sigh of relief and anticipate the growth of the plot instead of agonizing over minor things. From now on, the story is as much yours as it is mine; although I get to define the general direction, what your characters' motivations are and how you will pursue those motivations are up to you. (I will, of course, be on hand to supply necessary information if needed! But you get the point.)

Aaand I think I'm off to bed; I'm platinum tired.

Sorry I haven't said anything, I read the post a few days ago and I just wasn't really sure what to do, since I'm assuming that Rhys just got plopped into the tent action?

I was just wondering if you had anything in particular in mind for our responses by setting things up like this? I mean, as of right now I'm kind of feeling like there's nothing Rhys can contribute until Cyrus and Lyrian do their thing, seeing as he's a big silent guy and he wouldn't get involved in the fight if Cyrus is eager enough to handle it himself.

I could just post a whole lot of internal dialogue, if you want... XD;;

Oh, no, I was just allowing some time if anyone wanted to do anything. If that's not the case then yes, I will proceed with the beating up of my own character (huehuehue). I didn't want to skip past a bunch of stuff without a window of opportunity, so that's why.

(Also I didn't want like a 2000-word starting post ... :<)

We'll be fighting some actual bandits shortly.

I was thinking that if you posted as your own character, it'd provide the others with some clues as to what to do next, maybe even set up some of the events.

I've gotta ask, though, have you ensured that all the members of the RP are active or if they're informed the IC is up?
