Hey guys! I've recently taken an interest into the world of creating custom cards. I've done a few amiibo cards before, but never a pokemon card. I recently was searching the internet for a base to work with and found the template I liked. I then took the style of art I'm most comfortable working with (pixel) and recolored some sprites to use for the picture. I haven't thought of any attacks or costs in terms of attack or retreat, but I wanted to get a a feel for what you guys might think of what I have going on here. Does this look like trash or do you think the art style if cool and different from what were used to seeing? Thanks!

edit: P.S. this card will be printed on clear paper then spray adhesived over a Jungle edition Kanghaskhan holo that I used nail polish remover to take the original art off of. =]

So, while I can't offer too much in the way of critique (I mean, your prowess with photo editors is above my level), I've got a couple things to critique as well as questions on a choice or two made:

What made you choose the font you chose? Is it to make it so that it's obviously a counterfeit? Or was it a style choice? Or just simply lacking the font used on the official cards? It's worth noting that all official cards have used the exact same font with no variations whatsoever, and it's not the font you're using.

I do have a complaint about your choice of base card. Why a Jungle Kangaskhan? Why not a regular common?

Pixel art is an unusual choice, but I get that it's sticking with your guns on what you're familiar with, so I have no real critique there.

Thanks for sharing!

I appreciate the response! As for font, it's a mixture of things. My PS computer is down at the moment so I don't have access to the correct font. For what I was working with the font I chose was because u thought it looked okay, and it's hard to convey how that's supposed to sound so I'll try it phonetically... Okay. Lol. The kangaskhan was used because u had a spare one I could toss and I wanted the card yo be a holo. The only card I have from my ORIGINAL collection that I treasure is my Movie Promo Ancient Mew. And thank you for the encouraging critique. Pixel art IS my strength artistically. It's easy to edit something and make it something new. I'll keep playing around with it and keep ya posted on the finish product. Cheers!

Regarding printing with foil patterns, icycatelf has some experience in printing out cards with holo layers and might be able to point you in the right direction to acquiring your own holo layers. Their card thread is here: https://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=300073

Stripping an official holo is perfectly acceptable if you've got a spare. I generally prefer that method, but you'll eventually run out of spares if you continue. You could buy some hologram wrapping film from a dollar store (even the colored film usually has a silver back) and glue it to commons. Use an ID card or something similar to flatten the foil/push out air pockets and then trim off any excess with scissors once it dries. It's a good idea to make several of these in advance so it'll be less work when you're ready to piece-together your next print.

To each their own, but I don't really feel that sprites look quite right on the TCG blanks. Have you tried making your own pixel-based blanks based on the TCG instead?

Spoiler:

Thanks for the tips on making holo cards! I never thought of making my on pixel based blanks that would probably make it look way cooler and give it that final push to make it mine. Thanks for the suggestion! I'm totally gonna try that!
